Abstract [en]

Every year unaccompanied refugee children escapes to Sweden to apply for asylum. In the fall 2015 this number increased significantly. When these children arrives to Sweden the social services is responsible to provide them care. This study therefore aims to examine how professionals view the needs of unaccompanied children and how they work with these children in placement of fostercare. The survey is conducted by a qualitative method where empirical data was gathered through semi-structured interviews with familyhome secretarys and placing manager. The results show that through the work of investigations and follow-ups social services ensures that unaccompanied children's needs is satisfied. With this work they can assure that the children who is placed in familycare gets a safe place with good conditions and where they will be able to develop. The results also show that the municipalities who participated in the study have a similar approach when it comes to how unaccompanied children's needs should be supplied but they use different ways to execute it. The study indicates flaws in social services work, there are many areas who needs improvement when it comes to unaccompanied children in fostercare. The conclusion that emerged have revealed the importance of a functioning organization. To meet the unaccompanied children’s needs it requires that the organization have the conditions for it. When the conditions for different reasons doesn’t exist it leads to flaws in the social work which affects the unaccompanied children.
