    Abstract [sv]

    Under året 2015 bedömde 240 av Sveriges 290 kommuner att det existerade ett underslott på bostäder. För att kunna möta behovet krävs det att många bostäder ska byggas på en kort tid. Med de klimathot som världen står inför krävs det att produktionen är uthållig och hållbar i längden. För att nå klimatmålen måste användandet av tunga fordon minskas, logistiken måste effektiviseras och alternativa transportmedel bör undersökas.

    Syftet med studien var att identifiera eventuella skillnader mellan byggnadsmaterialen trä och betong i transportledet. Med den insamalade datan togs olika relations- och nyckeltal fram som sedan utgjorde basen för de två formlerna som presenteras i studien.

    Resultatet av de olika relationstalen indikerar på att den lastade vikten inte har stor betydelse på hur mycket CO2 som släpps ut, utan att det är antalet transporter med tung lastbil som är grundproblemet till utsläppen och miljöpåverkan. Med formlerna som presenteras i studien kan antalet transporter som krävs till ett flerfamiljshus räknas ut, men även mängden CO2 som släpps ut vid fraktandet av planelementen.

    Abstract [en]

    In the recent decades the recognition of maintenance as an effective part of the company competitiveness has grown. In order to enhance maintenance performance and its positive impact, integration with the rest of the plant activities should be planned and performed. In this study, Maintenance Function Deployment model was applied on a real data of a case company. The model was used to analyse the company’s production with respect to the business and economic variables. This was done first through finding loss causes of the strategic goals of the case company, then breaking down these causes and their costs into their root causes. Based on economic estimations, the results show that the major root causes behind losses are insufficient training of personnel and lack of maintenance integration. It is concluded that properly considering the integration of maintenance within the company’s activities, reduces loss and improves the company’s performance. Also, that applying MFD eases the identification of the root-causes behind losses as well as quantifying and prioritizing the economic losses. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

    Abstract [en]

    Through this exam work, a Voyage Data Recorder was installed on the Kalmar Maritime Academy’s school ship Calmare Nyckel. The purpose of the installation was to create a tool for the teachers when they are giving feedback on the students’ manoeuvring exercises with the school ship. This work was made in project form during the last year of the marine engineer programme and partly during the following three years. The result was an installation that records the information from the bridge equipment that was judged to be central to be able to correctly mirror the manoeuvring of the ship, and the possibility to replay this information.

En jämförelse görs mellan olika metoder för beräkning av ingreppsstyvheter vilken visar på stora skillnader. En planetväxel av typ D simuleras i flerkroppsdynamikprogramvaran MSC ADAMS där egenskaper som lastfördelning, vridstyvhet och utväxling undersöks.

    Abstract [en]

    Industry strives towards developing and implementing digitalised and automated production process, Industry 4.0. This states hard terms and conditions to develop new concept-based maintenance to meet the new production process demands. Intelligent and automated condition-based maintenance (CBM) exempli-fied in vibration-based maintenance (VBM) is one of the most suitable techniques for developing a maintenance concept fulfilling the demands stated by Industry 4.0. In this paper, we identified today´s VBM-process activities and their applica-tion, and introduced and discussed their status. In addition, we developed a model that describes future VBM, Cognitive VBM. Then, we compared cognitive VBM with the currently available VBM. The major conclusions are the potential benefit of applying Cognitive VBM is the continuous enhancement of company internal effectiveness in a cost-effective way.

    Abstract

    The aim of this thesis is to show the company the importance and the necessity of the maintenance, trough highlighting its role and impact on company’s profitability and competitiveness, and that’s happened within the analysing of the plant to figure out the failures and short stoppages, find out the causes behind them, convert them into money and the last step is to find out the most suitable and cost effective maintenance strategy based on some important factors such as economy, and quality to probably eliminate or reduce the number of failures and short stoppages. According to the analysis, capacity verifying data collection which the company has done during a random working daily shift and a technical faults list about the possibly failures and short stoppages which occur during the operation, it shows that there are some downtime due to management, operation and logistic, but the main focus was on the technical faults which has correlation with maintenance. In the result it shows which technical and mechanical problems the machines usually faces, the causes behind them, how much it cost the company when they breaks down and finally some suggestions and recommendations about how these problems can probably be solved based on economy and quality.

    Detta examensarbete är utfört i samarbete med dumpertillverkaren Volvo CE i Braås. Då dumpern framförs i hård terräng är det nedersta insteget fäst i två stålvajrar vilket gör det flexibelt. Då flexibiliteten in mot maskinen idag är större än företaget önskar undersöks det i detta arbete alternativ till dagens lösning. Detta görs med hjälp av ingenjörsverktyget ”Eight Steps to Getting Design Right” vilket är en produktutvecklingsmetod som gör det lätt för läsaren att följa utvecklingen från idé till färdig produkt. Arbetet resulterade i att två nya lösningar togs fram. En lik dagens, som bygger på att lösningen är flexibel i två led samt har en styvare vajer jämfört med den på dagens lösning. Den andra lösningen, tänkt som tillvalslösning bygger på leder som innanför ett robust skal är kopplat till en kraftkälla som gör det möjligt för steget att fällas upp och ned.

    Fallstudiens syfte är att studera ett fallföretags produktionsprocess samt deras materialförsörjning för att få en bättre uppfattning om vilka faktorer som påverkar effektiviteten. Målet är att leverera en layout som ska leda till att upplärningsprocessen blir kortare, att flexibiliteten ökar samt att man får en taktad produktion. Teori och insamlad empirisk data har analyserats noggrant för att komma fram till en slutsats och för att kunna ge rekommendationer på eventuella förbättringsmöjligheter till fallföretaget. Både för och nackdelar till rekommendationerna har diskuterats för att de skulle bli så relevanta som möjligt för fallföretaget.

    The basis of the study lies with a newly patented gearbox by cardiologist and inventor Stig Lundbäck. Stig founded CorPower Ocean AB to further develop the gearbox to be used in a wave energy device. The purpose of this project is to develop a concept of a lifting system with CorPower Oceans gearbox that is more energy efficient than a hydraulic lifting system. The goal is to use technology from CorPower Oceans gearbox inversely to perform heavy lifting as an alternative to hydraulics. The project is limited to applying the gearbox and gear rack on a forklift with a lifting capacity of ten tons.The main tool in this project will be the product development process Systems Engineering where only the most relevant parts will be used to develop a concept. Calculations of the strength and dimensions of the gear racks are made to ensure the possibility of this solution.

    Title: Batch size policy Thule Vehicle Solutions - A case study in Hillerstorp

     

    Background: The Company has currently no clear batch size policy and batch sizes are an area that has been recognized with potential earnings within the company. A project to map two flows (a high volume and a low volume) and suggest a new cross functional batch size policy has been initiated.

     

    Purpose: The purpose of this project is to, with the help of a current state map, propose a new cost effective and cross functional batch size policy for the business unit car accessories and compare this to the present batch size policy to show possible earnings.  

     

    Method: This project uses a qualitative approach to show the effect of batch sizes with data supplied from the Thule Sweden AB and researched through the Linnaeus University’s recourses. 

     

    Findings: Thule Vehicle Solutions should be able to remove several inventories that have been caused by a batch size policy where whole pallets are preferred. A batch size policy where one batch size is used to the semi-finished inventory and another size, part of first batch size, from that inventory until the finished-goods inventory has been suggested as a cross functional batch size policy. This suggestion has been tested and in four different versions was found more cost effective than the current policy. Using smaller batch sizes in the suggested batch size policy decreased inventory levels and lead times. However, the current, larger batch size was more optimal as the holding costs are low and the set up costs are high.

    The idea for this exam paper arose under our onboard training periods. Under these periods we understood that the knowledge in cathodic corrosion protection was poor among the engine personal. We have also made a minor survey among marine engineers to see how the knowledge in this area is onboard. The survey shows that our hypothesis on the level of knowledge corresponded to a large extent. Further reason why we studied this area is that we wanted to deepen us in this subject, when our own experience only was to write numbers from a display. Our main question has been how cathodic corrosion protection work at ships. In order to answer this question, we conducted literature studies in the subject. The theoretical knowledge we have gathered from internet and books. The practical knowledge we have gained from previous training periods and during onboard training on MS Silja Galaxy in December 2008 to January 2009.

    On board vessels it is not desirable to have a power failure, a so-called blackout. The thesis

    has investigated to what extent it is feasible to perform comparative and preventive studies

    with the accident reports from European flag states as a basis. This in order to investigate

    recurring shortcomings, of the vessels or in the work on board that has caused the blackout. In

    addition the possibility to categorize the cases was investigated. The categories were technical

    errors, operational errors and organization errors. Roughly half of the cases show that a single

    category of fault could not be identified due to a combination of faults leading to the blackout.

    However there are recurring cases with almost identical scenarios. For example unsatisfactory

    insulation caused fires due to leaking fuel hitting the hot surfaces.

    The survey shows that there is a lack of symmetry regarding the language used, structure,

    scope and form of publication. It also showed faults in the search engines of the databases.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of the study is to identify work hazards by analyzing the work activities and work environment during a separator overhaul onboard a ship. To identify risks the study used the Swedish Work Environment Authority´s regulation AFS 2012:02, the assessment form KIM 1 and a biomechanical program ALBA. The results show that there are risks for stress load on the body and that there is room for improvements. An example of an improvement is to design an additional workbench to allow proper work postures and decrease the number of lifts. The results also show the importance of using the right technique while lifting to reduce the chance of stress load. The study can be used for further studies on the work environment hazards onboard ships.

    In this paper, we investigate a one-warehouse multiple-retailer system, where the inventory control decisions are coordinated using a near optimal induced backorder cost, β*. All installations use continuous review installation-stock (R, Q) policies. The analysis builds on an approximation model where the stochastic warehouse delays are replaced by their correct averages. The contributions include insights as to how β* is influenced by system parameters, and the determination of simple closed form β* estimates. The latter offering a practical means to achieve coordinated control of large size systems.

    Med en ny vattenreningsdel vill Kalmar Vatten AB (KVAB) sänka sina utsläpp av näringsämnen i Kalmarsund. KVAB har vid tidigare tillfällen uppgraderat det befintliga reningsverket och för att klara framtida energi- och klimatmål planeras därför en nybyggnation. Uppdraget var att framföra olika pumpalternativ till den framtida pumpstationen och ge en LCC-analys för varje alternativ. Två helt skilda pumptyper har utretts, Arkimedespumpen och centrifugalpumpen. Två alternativ för Arkimedespumpen och ett alternativ för centrifugalpumpen har tagits i beaktande. Under projektet har Kalmars inkommande dygnsflöde under åren 2011, 2012 och 2013 legat till grund för dimensionering av pumparna till den planerade nybyggnationen. Syftet var att ge KVAB beslutsunderlag för val av pump till den kommande pumpstationen. Resultatet redovisar att centrifugalpumpen har lägre energiförbrukning och får därför en lägre kostnad vid drift. Eftersom mer kringutrustning och underhåll krävs för centrifugalpumpen jämfört med Arkimedespumpen kan dock det verkliga resultatet bli annorlunda.

    Abstract [en]

    Responses of mechanical systems are often studied using numerical time-domain methods. Discrete excitation forces require a transformation of the dynamic system from continuous time into discrete time. Such a transformation introduces an aliasing error. To reduce the aliasing error, different discretization techniques are used. The bias errors introduced by some discretization techniques are studied in this paper.

    Algebraic expressions of the bias error obtained for some discretization methods are presented. The bias error depends on the assumption of the characteristics of the load between two subsequent time steps; here the zero-order, first-order and Lagrange second-order assumptions are studied. Different simulation methods are also studied for numerical evaluation of the derived theoretical bias errors. The discretization techniques are implemented for Runge-Kutta, the Digital Filter method and for the Pseudo Force in State Space method.

    The study is carried out for both a linear and a nonlinear system; two numerical examples assist in evaluating the theory. Perfect matches between the numerically estimated bias errors and the theoretical ones are shown. The results also show that, for the nonlinear example, the fourth order Runge-Kutta method is less accurate than the Digital Filter and the used single step Pseudo Force in State Space method.

    Abstract [en]

    With increasing demands on more flexible and lighter engineering structures, it has been more common to take nonlinearity into account. Model calibration is an important procedure for nonlinear analysis in structural dynamics with many industrial applications. Pretest planning plays a key role in the previously proposed calibration method for nonlinear systems, which is based on multi-harmonic excitation and an effective optimization routine. This paper aims to improve the pretest planning strategy for the proposed calibration method. In this study, the Fisher information matrix (FIM), which is calculated from the gradients with respect to the chosen parameters with unknown values, is used for determining the locations, frequency range, and the amplitudes of the excitations as well as the sensor placements. This pretest planning based model calibration method is validated by a structure with clearance nonlinearity. Synthetic test data is used to simulate the test procedure. Model calibration and K-fold cross validation are conducted for the optimum configurations selected from the pretest planning as well as three other configurations. The calibration and cross validation results show that a more accurate estimation of parameters can be obtained by using test data from the optimum configuration.

    Abstract [en]

    Nonlinear finite element models are often validated using experimental data. A previously proposed calibration method, which concerns pre-test planning, multi-sinusoidal excitation and an effective optimization routine, is improved with an extended version of the pre-test planning. The improved method is validated using a test structure with a clearance type nonlinearity. From the pretest planning, an optimal configuration for the data acquisition is determined. The multi-harmonic nonlinear frequency response functions (FRFs) of the structure under test are then generated by a multi-sinusoidal excitation. Model calibration is conducted by minimizing the difference between the experimental multi-harmonic nonlinear FRFs and their analytical counterparts. The uncertainties of the estimated parameters are assessed by a k-fold cross validation, which confirm that the uncertainties of the estimated parameters are small when the optimal configuration is applied.

    Continuous improvement of various processes within a company is a necessity to remain competitive on the market. There are many different improvement methodologies to streamline work routines; however the different methodologies do not sufficiently embrace administrative processes or the employee motivation regarding changes. The purpose of this thesis has been to develop a model for streamlining administrative processes, while maintaining the employee motivation during the improvement projects implementation phases. The model has been developed theoretically through literature reviews including different improvement methodologies, such as Lean, TQM, Six Sigma, 5S, ISO 9000 and related subjects, while incorporating perspectives of the relations between quality, production and economy. Besides the aspect of continuous improvement, the methodology of Change management has permeated the model development and model outcome. The developed model for improving administrative processes should over time lead to shorten lead-times and streamlined high quality information flows. The first phases in the model have been implemented at Electrolux Laundry Systems providing the company a solid foundation for further implementation of the rest of the model. The results include several highlighted areas, which shall be further reviewed and improved to streamline the current routines at Electrolux Laundry Systems.

    Abstract [en]

    The paper justifies the necessity to analyze and precise the methodology ofcalculation of such drive shafts, which are important components in the complicateddriveline of automobiles and heavy vehicles. Based upon the elaborated threedimensional models, an innovative approach is developed and applied by the authors’team. Through the developed model based upon Simulink the variation of dynamicloading of the intermediate shaft of cardan drives has been investigated. Results fromcomputer simulation are shown and discussed. The presented approach for precisecalculating and design of drive shafts is aiming to improve the quality of theengineering design activities.

    In today’s situation many companies do not utilize the resources they have in an effective way. Reasons behind why the resources are not enough utilized can be several, such as lack of production technology and management, lack of maintenance, also lack of interest from the society to support with education and research, Kinnander (2004). It is important to have production analysis system in order to make it possible to improve the production process and increase the resource utilization. By collecting data of different parameters, such as operation- and loading time, production and quality outcome, and actual production time compared to ideal production time the company can measure and identify their unutilized capacity, NUTEK (2006). By using a structured investigation survey a company can easier analyse what areas to improve, e.g. their time for development of products and production systems, their lead time, delivery security and quality. Our investigation survey consists of questions divided into parts; department, information handling, ratios and goals, production analysis, improvement work and other. Our suggestion is to use a structured investigation survey with divided questions to different employees, as we want to get information from different departments and positions. The questions have been adjusted during the investigation time in order to give improved validity and reliability when using the structured investigation survey. The first three companies mostly got visited in order to formulate the investigation survey while the last three companies did make it possible to investigate the reliability and validity of the questions. This results into that the final investigation survey gives the desired and relevant information for finding unutilized capacity within a manufacturing company.

    Aquatic invasive species have spread around the world in ships’ ballast water tanks with dire consequences. To regulate this spreading, the International Maritime Organization implemented the Ballast Water Management Convention which forces ships to, within a certain time frame, install approved ballast water treatment systems. The implimentation of the Convention has been complex and shipping companies have had to face challenges of choosing suitable treatment systems for their ships and trading areas. For this study, qualitative interviews were conducted with representatives from Swedish tanker shipping companies to examine how the Convention has affected them. On what grounds different treatment techniques were chosen was also examined, as well as if installed treatment systems have met expectations. Results from the study show that companies have suffered economical impacts, have had difficulties handling the implementation of the Convention as well as difficulties finding reliable treatment systems. Furthermore, one respondent referred to a report submitted by Saudi Arabia where extensive ballast water sampling had been conducted on ships calling their ports. The report showed that a considerable amount of ships with approved ballast water treatment systems did not meet the required levels of organisms in the treated ballast water. The interviews confirm the report’s description of the treatment systems’ fundamental flaws.

    En stor del av den teknik som idag konsumeras innehåller någon form av skärm. En allt snabbare konsumtionstakt av just tekniska produkter ökar pressen på återvinningsindustrin. En vanlig typ av skärm är LCD-skärmen som lyses upp med hjälp av lysrör innehållande kvicksilver. Kvicksilver är mycket farligt för både människor, miljö och djur. Därför måste det hanteras med stor försiktighet. Att klippa upp skärmar för att avlägsna kvicksilvret och komma åt andra värdefulla material har visat sig vara en bra metod. Men metoden har utvecklingspotential eftersom kompletta skärmar, med plasthölje och kretskort, sällan klipps på ett smidigt sätt.

    I denna studie tas en hypotes fram om att klipphastigheten förbättrar klippkvaliteten, grundat på teori bakom plåtklippning och vad experter inom området berättar. Vidare utvecklas en metod för att verifiera eller falsifiera hypotesen. Metoden innefattar utveckling av en testrigg, byggnation av densamma, fullskaliga tester samt insamlande av testdata. All insamlad data analyseras noggrant, diskuteras och sammanställs till slutsatser. Undersökningen visar att en ökning av klipphastigheten påverkar klippkvaliteten på ett positivt sätt samt att klippspalten, inom rimliga gränser, kan ökas utan att påverka klippkvaliteten.

Today we are going to a more automated manufacturing industry where human beings are less involved and it is more crucial than ever before to adapt to new changes in the industry and technology. Internet of things and cyber physical systems are becoming a bigger part of our lives. This case study on HordaGruppen is focused on how HordaGruppen from the plastic industry can develop with some ideas from the vision Industry 4.0 in order to ensure the quality of the product. Most of the technology needed for Industry 4.0 is available today and there is no reason not to start using it. The study will introduce to Industry 4.0 and the basic ideas that the vision stands for and then try to define and solve some problems within one machine in one of their plants. The results presented in this study shows that using sensors and other technology available today you can take the first steps towards Industry 4.0.

    This report is regarding an electrical installation of an alarm system on a post fishing

    boat called Andromeda. The background of the installation was an earlier and

    inadequate alarm system that led to a motor failure. The ship was taken out of service

    and was sold to Björn Magndahl who rebuilt it to a yacht.

    The project was conducted partly by developing the existing systems, partly by

    documenting the work by means of electrical blue prints. Except the alarm systems, an

    installation of the frequency control unit for the bow thruster was installed.

    The installation was working fine and the outcome of the documentation was handed

    over in a form of a binder during the test drive of the systems and the assignment was

    approved.

    Emballator Växjöplast AB arbetar med att utveckla och tillverka kapsyler till

    världens ledande varumärken. De arbetar ständigt med utveckling och design av

    kapsyler för att skapa identitet, funktion och försäljning. Detta har lett till att

    företaget idag är Nordens största kapsyltillverkare.

    Dagens sortiment av 28mm barnskyddande kapsyler består av två varianter, öppen

    mynning eller insatspropp. De tillverkas i materialet polyoximetylen eller i

    polypropen i kombination med en liner. Båda materialen har god kemikalieresistans.

    De förslutningar detta projekt innefattar är de klassiska ”tryck och vrid”.

    Barnskyddande förslutningar har höga krav på sig och ska klara av

    kemikalieinspektionens tillsyn gällande barnskydd. Samtliga av företagets kapsyler

    är godkända, trots det finns ett problem på förpackningar som kommer ut till kund

    där barnskyddet inte är tillräckligt. Detta kan leda till reklamation hos företaget och

    utgör en risk att barn kan få i sig innehållet.

    För tre år sen ställdes ett test av Emballator Växjöplast AB, detta test har analyserats

    i detta projekt. Det går att konstatera att taket på kapsyler som är i direktkontakt med

    innehållet sväller, och därmed delvis tappar sin funktion då taket når ytterhättan. Då

    en liner används som barriär mellan vätskan och kapsylen sker ingen betydande

    svällning. Den idé vi valt att vidareutveckla är en kombination med liner, även till de

    kapsyler med insatspropp. Med detta sätt kommer samtliga kapsylkombinationer ha

    liner i sig. Utifrån de resultat vi hittills kunnat se kommer risken att kapsylerna

    sväller minska. Förslutningarna kommer då samtidigt bli tätare så vätska inte når

    gängorna, vilket gör att öppningsmomentet påverkas mindre. Även

    öppningsmomentet är ett problem idag då det i vissa fall är för lågt vid första

    öppningstillfället hos konsument.

    Ur det ekonomiska perspektivet ser vi att det skulle bli lönsamt att använda

    polypropen tillsammans med en liner till samtliga kapsyler. Denna idé skulle

    dessutom reducera antalet kapsyler. Användning av en liner till kapsyler i

    polyoximetylen är idag uteslutet för det skulle bli mycket dyrt och därför inte vara ett

    alternativ för kund.

    Fokus i detta arbete ligger i att konstruera om vissa delar av produkten för lättare och snabbare montering. Huvudproblemen som upptäcks i detta arbete handlar om skymd sikten vid monteringen samt bristande utrymme för installation av komponenter. Arbetet börjar med att formulera undersökningsproblemet och sedan presenteras olika vetenskapliga metoder, relevanta teorier samt genomförandet av arbetet. Nulägesbeskrivning, nulägesanalys samt förbättringsförslag till problemen utförs i genomförandet. På grund av att ingen egen tillverkning sker på företaget har författarna valt att utföra beräkningar istället för att verifiera att lösningarna till problem håller. Resultatet i detta arbete blir att antalet delar och skruvar har minskats samt att sikten och tillgängligheten vid insättning av komponenter har förbättrats, vilket kommer att minska monteringstiden till en viss del.

    Abstract [en]

    The probability distribution of customer waiting times due to stock-outs and backlogging is studied, including mean and variance, when demand follows a compound Poisson process and the inventory is governed by an (nQ,R) inventory policy under continuous review. Existing results are reviewed and new exact contributions are presented, particularly covering the case when R<–1, a case that quite often may be optimal for central warehouses, but is missing in the literature. Waiting times are investigated for two cases: For an average unit of demand, assuming partial deliveries, and for a customer demanding

    d units, assuming full deliveries only. Here d may be interpreted as the constant order size from a specific customer/retailer. The results are easily generalized to the waiting time of an average customer. Besides exact formulae, various approximations and simple heuristics are suggested for calculation of means and variances. The results should be valuable for approximately optimal inventory control in distribution

    The purpose of this thesis is to investigate existing manufacturers of wooden framed buildings requirements and interest of building block of flats with bearing wooden frame with more than two floors. With this in view we have studied the market for high wooden houses. We have initially regarded that market from the approach of different interest parties and through investigation of the companies in the market today and to place their systems for building technologies in a life cycle for the product. After that we have regarded the market for wooden framed buildings and focused on the ten companies which we have interviewed. Than we describe how the requirements on the market for high wooden houses are related to results from the interviews. These connections end in an analysis of the factors which influence the choices for the strategy of the companies. We divide the companies in different strategic groups. These groups originate from their experiences of high wooden houses. We describe how the different companies can act at some different scenarios. Factors which influence the existing manufacturers of wooden framed buildings entrance on the market are the state of proprietions, the other activity in the group of companies and the lack of competence of engineering in the projecting. In the scenarios, which we have given details about, do we predict that several of todays existing manufacturers of wooden framed buildings will be on the market in less than five years. This is above all valid for companies which are strong in the activities of projects and companies which are subcontractor of building elements. The companies which are on the market now with a system for building technologies, or are on their way, we believe have a favourable position above all for deliveries to larger or mediumlarge cities.

    Utvecklingen och användandet av modulbaserade system ökar konstant idag. Industrin efterfrågar dessa system för att kunna använda en produktionslina till många olika detaljer. Samtidigt vill tillverkarna av system gärna att deras system är så lika varandra som möjligt för att kunna minska tillverkningskostnaderna och lagerhålla större volymer och minska ledtiderna.

    Tubfyllningsmaskiner idag måste kunna hantera en variation av tubformat. Kunderna gör en stor investering när de köper in denna maskin och vill då kunna köra samtliga av sina produkter genom denna. Detta leder till att tubfyllaren måste kunna ställas om snabbt och enkelt mellan de olika formaten.

    För tillverkaren innebär detta att många olika formatbitar måste tas fram, en idag kostsam och tidsödande procedur. För att minska ledtiderna för verktygen kommer dessa att 3D-printas, tillsammans med att verktyget kommer kunna hantera en mängd tubformat kommer detta minska kostnaderna.

    Abstract [en]

    This product development project is made by Fredric Ericsson and Hampus Hammarbäck as a thesis project in Mechanical engineering with focus on product development at Linnaeus University. The project was in collaboration between the students and the outsourcing companies Alutrade and Masterlite. It follows the process of designing a flood light fixture for illuminating signs and focuses on systematization of the design process. The reason to the project is flaws in the outdated current fixture. The aim of the project is to design a fixture that is more competitive in the lightning market. This was done by studying the problem and applying product development theory. The production methods is limited to mainly aluminium extrusion and metal sheet punching by the outsourcer which therefore limits the design options to consist mainly by aluminium profiles. It results in a cost effective solution of a flood light fixture with a well documented and systemized design process.

    Abstract [en]

    A generalized algorithm for functionalstructural analysis of the technical systems based on the hierarchical relationship between the system for conversion of material, energy and information, the technical system and the executive organs of the technical system, is proposed. The universality of the proposed algorithm is a prerequisite for solving important problems in the theory of the technical systems for revealing regularities, generally valid for all technical objects and transferring knowledge from one scientific field to another one.

    Abstract [en]

    Mechanical failures in general can appear because of weak design, wrong handling, and problems during the manufacturing process, material problems etc. This paper is dealing with failures in lifting machinery gearboxes which appear because of material stresses and tribological problems. The study conducted is based on theoretical analysis and analysis of inspection results for failures that have appeared in cranes and other lifting machinery in southern part of Sweden. Investigation shows that besides the surface damages like abrasive and adhesive failures also cracks in the material in different parts appear. Since these types of gearboxes are made in short series, gearbox housings and sometimes also gears are made of welded steel. Hence welding process makes the weld joints brittle; cracks do start and developed until the part fails. Another problem that happens due to welding is wrapping which leads to changes in the geometrical tolerances and that does affect the parallelism of the shafts and the functionality of the gearbox.

    Abstract [en]

    Abstract: In the presented report, through in-depth study of international researches, the importance of standards in all areas of life and pressing need to deepen the study of standards in the higher engineering education has been reasoned. Results of a questionnaire survey have been stooped, with respondents - engineering students, confirming their awareness that enhanced study in the field of standardization is needed. Education about standards and up to date information about them is condition for improving the quality and effectiveness of their study. The authors propose a comprehensive approach to education about standards, which includes complementing of the curriculum of technical subjects and creation of new discipline that studies standards used in the particular specialty and those found in everyday life. Positive contribution to the creation of good qualified engineers has access to updated information about standards, which would be achieved through the establishment of an Information Centre at campus in constant contact with Standardization Institute.
