    Abstract [en]

This paper is an explorative paper aiming at presenting the development of a novel and comprehensive method to create a more inclusive and easily accessible design method applicable to a wide array of design projects, academic and professional. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the “Identity Tool Kit” (ITK) - a method aimed at assisting designers and clients in the creation of visual platforms and identities in relation to product and service development. The formulation of the method began 10 years ago and it has been employed by approximately 600 university students within several disciplines and in numerous projects outside of academia. Based on project evaluations, 90 % of the participants found the method very useful. Many students have continued to use the method as they have embarked on a professional career within the field of design. The Identity Tool Kit has proven to achieve set goals within different areas of design and in relation of different types of design processes. Crucially, the Identity Tool Kit is more than just a design method since it has extensive management implications. The case studies here presented reveal how the method was used in the region of Kalmar, Sweden. These particular examples are picked because of the nature of the project; the wide array of people’s background and it illustrates how the method supports the participation of all stakeholders in design processes.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this research is to individuate a design product or service application to create a territorial specificity, using the reference of a colour palette with historical and geographical values, picked out in the spirit of Linnaeus, the Swedish botanist, and characteristic of the Öland island, in Sweden. It equally wants to highlight the design process as a possible methodology for product and service developmentenhancing territorial value.

Light focusing on Design in society and working life2011Ingår i: AIC 2011, Interaction of colour and light: - in arts and sciences / [ed] Verena M. Schindler, Stepen Cuber, Zürich: Pro Colore , 2011Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)

AIC – MIDTERM MEETING 2011, ZURICH – INTERACTION OF COLOUR & LIGHT IN THE ARTS AND SCIENCES – ABSTRACT

Short abstract: Light focusing on design in society and working lifeThe objective of the project is to study and analyse Design approaches and methods in complex situations, such as public and urban settings and furthermore territorial development strategy, thus exploring the possibilities of creating light and colour solutions that take into account both function, ergonomics, psychological and emotional aspects in public surroundings. It also aims to highlight the design process as a possible methodology for product and service development.

The project stepped out from an initiative launched by the Swedish Ministry ofCulture, to encourage the development and spread of design within the country and was the premise to the ongoing research LCS-light, colour and space. The project made use of a design methodology named ITK - Identity Tool Kit -,in a completely new context, and also of models of the selected locations. It further involved various groups of people in the process, where the figure of the designer wasseen as the central figure within teams made up by students, artists, professionals, political representatives and businessmen cooperating inside an extended network.

A “Light Year” was set up on the basis of a series of considerations spreading overseveral domains implied in Design discipline, where a knowledge platform was builtand design methods were studied. Throughout the course of the Light Year several communication, technical, artistic and educational events including workshops, conferences and other temporary or permanent initiatives were implemented. Then full scale models in the territory followed.

Examining the final results of this broad project several positive facts indicate thatthe main goal of the project, of moving beyond light and colour design and showing the usefulness of design and design method so that design is perceived to be essential for everyone in work and at leisure, and, as well, knowingly work with design and business development and strategic approach, was achieved.

The purpose of the Light year, of clarifying the value of design in everyday life, wasrewarded by the National design prize, and by practical issues of both permanent and temporary events such as light festivals, installations, urban lighting and urban plans, and the creation of new work places.

Color and shape applied to product design.2012Ingår i: Color and colorimetry: multidisciplinary contributions, Bologna: Maggioli Editore, 2012Kapitel i bok, del av antologi (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

The research builds upon prof. Henriette Koblanck’s work summarized in theacronym ITK, Identity Tool Kit, a method that aims to assist designers and contractors in meeting on "visual platforms" relating to the development and production of products and services, and kicks off from point 4 of the ITK method,“Shape & Color” The aim of the research is to find a method to represent the complexity of the relationship between color and shape, in the specific context of the design of product or service, in order to make possible to communicate this parameter during discussions in a team of professionals or to the end user, further to be adoptable in design education.
