    Maintenance Perception in Swedish SMEs (A local study in Kronoberg County)  2013Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Recognition of maintenance management as a significant factor holds the key to competitiveness in the global market irrespective of the size of the business. Maintenance management practices are primarily found in larger and multinational companies but the purpose of this paper is to investigate the maintenance practices that are used in SMEs of Sweden (Kronoberg County). The study is expected to expose the level of maintenance perception in the Swedish industry via a postal (and web based) questionnaire. The survey covered 74 company chosen from different sectors and produced a response rate of 20.3 percent. The main results achieved from the study show us difference between the maintenance perception and awareness of the maintenance. The respondents are aware of the importance of maintenance, but maintenance is still perceived as a necessary expense. Because according to the results of the survey the percentage of maintenance budget in comparison to the companies’ turnover is on average about 0.97% and it is very low. Again, when we look at the maintenance cost distribution of companies, spare parts and labour costs consist of 73 % of total maintenance cost, despite that they spend very little money for technology and training costs, their percentages in total cost are just 3% and 2%, also they still ignore statistical modelling (historical data) and condition monitoring. Moreover, just 27% of the participants use the maintenance key performance indicators (KPIs), and just 14% of them used basic KPIs which are used for measuring maintenance performance. There is a need to spend and invest more in maintenance especially they should invest more in technology and training to perform them. On the other hand, there is a need for choosing right maintenance strategy and service type, because these points are very important for an effective and economic maintenance management.

    Abstract [en]

    Background: Companies have lately been engaging their business activities onto social mediaand its platforms. They are taking advantage of the opportunities provided by social media and they are starting to realize the importance of content marketing.

    Problem Discussion: Content marketing has been researched previously research. However, the research regarding B2B content marketing and the differences between B2B and B2C content is still rather limited. The question lingers whether the same principles apply to firms working with B2B as well. Moreover, a clear framework or guide regarding the way that content should be created does not yet exist – a guide including the aspects may be taken into account when creating content and implementing content marketing.

    Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand and describe how companies deal with the content creation process, within content marketing through social media.

    Research Question: How do companies handle content creation for content marketing through social media?

    Methodology: This thesis has taken a qualitative and abductive approach on the study. It hasbeen based on a multiple-case study, where semi-structured interviews took place with sevenfirms working with content marketing and content creation - in a B2B context.

    Conclusion: All seven firms have a uniform understanding of content marketing, aligned withprevious research. The study concludes that there are similarities between the ways that companies handle content marketing. Furthermore, the study concludes that there are general traits that needs to always be taken into consideration when creating content s.a. long term planning, providing value to the customer, well thought out message and choosing the right channels for content distribution.

    A cost effective and environmentally friendly stormwater treatment method: The use of wood fly ash and H2O22011Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    This current study is a lab-scale investigation focused on the treatment of stormwater runoff generated in wood-storage areas. The main target constituents of the proposed treatment were: metals (Cu, Cd, Co, V, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cr, Fe, As), COD, TOC, Phenols, and color. The method implemented for this project follows the main concept of using low-cost and environmentally friendly technologies and had as main steps the use of a by-product of wood-based industries - wood fly ashes as sorbents - followed by oxidation with H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide). The results obtained during this investigation were vey promising since satisfactory removal % was achieved. Removal rates of 98.5%, 86%, 89.6%, 79.6% were achieved for color, chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC) and phenols respectively. Furthermore a decrease in metals concentrations was also observed with the exception of chromium. The study showed that for 300 ml storm water, optimum conditions were with 7g wood fly ash, 5 hours time reaction, pH≈11.46 and 150 μl of a 30% H2O2 solution in a room temperature. To conclude it can be stated that the use of a by-product from wood industry to treat contaminated water from the same sector, following the concept of a closed-loop system, is promising and possible. However further studies need to be conducted in order to evaluate such system in scaled-up conditions.

    Abstract [en]

    While the HPC community is working towards the development of the first Exaflop computer (expected around 2020), after reaching the Petaflop milestone in 2008 still only few HPC applications are able to fully exploit the capabilities of Petaflop systems. In this paper we argue that efforts for preparing HPC applications for Exascale should start before such systems become available. We identify challenges that need to be addressed and recommend solutions in key areas of interest, including formal modeling, static analysis and optimization, runtime analysis and optimization, and autonomic computing. Furthermore, we outline a conceptual framework for porting HPC applications to future Exascale computing systems and propose steps for its implementation.

    Syftet med denna uppsats var att undersöka i vilken utsträckning elever anser att de använde musikteoriämnet under ensemblelektioner på musiklinjen på gymnasiet, samt om och i så fall hur eleverna anser att teoretiska kunskaper påverkade deras ensemblespel. Det andra syftet var att ta reda på i vilken utsträckning elever anser att deras lärare i ensemble samtalade med dem om hur musikteorin kan användas på ensemblelektionerna. Genom enkätundersökning samlades data om detta in från elever på gymnasiet. Dessa data granskades sedan med hjälp av den sociokulturella teorin. Respondenterna svarade väldigt olika på hur vanligt det är att de själva använder musikteorin under ensemblelektionerna. Många svarade att de händer ganska ofta medan ungefär lika många svarade att det händer ganska sällan. Elevernas svar visar att när musikteorin används så sker det icke-verbalt. I en närmare granskning visade det sig att majoriteten av eleverna ansåg att de olika moment ur musikteorin enkäten frågade om används inget eller sällan under ensemblelektionen. En stor majoritet av eleverna sa själva att det dem lärde sig på musikteorilektionerna utvecklade dem som musiker och att många delar ur musikteorins kursplan var viktiga för deras spel i ensemblen.

    Detta arbete syftar till att undersöka hur musikteorilärare på gymnasiet arbetar med ämnet musikteori genom observationer av lektioner och intervjuer med lärare. Fokus ligger på att granska utrymmet som ges till elevsamarbete, användandet av digitala verktyg samt hur lärarna relaterar ämnet till elevernas praktiska användande. Detta har undersökts genom att först observera musikteorilärare under lektionstillfällen för att hitta intressanta aspekter av deras undervisning, inspirerat av metoden grounded theory. Sedan intervjuades dessa musikteorilärare närmre om just de aspekter som ansågs intressanta. I arbetets analysdel relateras sedan lärarnas svar till en teori om lärande som kallas Collaborative learning. Inom denna teori är grupparbete, ofta assisterat med digitala verktyg mycket viktigt, vilket är relevant för detta arbete. Under intervjuerna berättade en av de två intervjuade lärarna att grupparbeten var väldigt vanliga och att digitala verktyg användes ofta i undervisningen. Den andre läraren berättade motsatsen: grupparbeten skedde sällan och digitala verktyg hade provats under lektionstillfällen, men med otillfredsställande resultat. Båda lärarna relaterade musikteoriämnet till elevernas praktiska användande.

    Title: How is a trend valued? Inventory accounting in the clothing industry.

    Background: Inventory is one of the major asset items in the balance sheet for clothing companies. It is therefore important that the valuation of it becomes fair and provides accurate information to the company's stakeholders. As trends today are moving faster, companies' inventories are subjected to greater obsolescence than before, making it harder to value. This means that companies in their pursuit of legitimate inventory accounting need to relate to their social context. This will be the basis for the study's problem and purpose, which therefore aims to identify the social factors that underlie inventory reporting in clothing companies.

    Purpose: The study intends to provide an understanding of how the social context shapes the accounting of inventories in the clothing industry. The purpose is to supplement the knowledge of how clothing companies responds to the challenges and uncertainties in inventory accounting.

    Method: Based on existing literature, a social context has been drawn up, to which companies need to relate its inventory report. The thesis then consists of a qualitative interview study with companies in the clothing industry. The purpose of the interviews is also to identify additional factors that may affect how companies inventory accounting shapes.

    Results / Conclusions: The results of the survey shows that companies today are aware of the problems with fast-paced trends, but that's nothing they take into major account in their inventory accounting. It also appears that the inventory valuation in the industry today is standardized.

    Abstract [sv]

    Bakgrund: Multiresistenta bakterier, däribland MRSA, är idag ett globalt samhällsproblem. Infektioner förorsakade av MRSA skapar ett onödigt lidande för patienter med utdragen vårdtid som i värsta fall kan resultera i ökad dödlighet. Enligt Smittskyddsinstitutet (2010) drabbades 1479 patienter förra året i Sverige. Med få verksamma antibiotika måste andra åtgärder tillämpas, så som basala hygienrutiner, screening, isoleringsvård och utökad städning av sjukhusmiljön. Det är dock viktigt att utvärdera åtgärdernas effekter för att kunna utföra smittskyddsarbete på bästa möjliga sätt.

    Syfte: Syftet var att undersöka effekterna av olika åtgärder i smittskyddsarbetet mot MRSA.

    Metod: Litteraturstudie med kvantitativ ansats baserad på tio vetenskapliga original artiklar. Analysen gjordes enligt Forsberg och Wengströms (2008) riktlinjer för meta-analys.

    Resultat: Studien visar att MRSA förekommer i kliniska miljöer samt förutom hos patienten även hos vårdpersonal. Förebyggande åtgärder som bland annat noggrann städning, basala hygienrutiner och screening hade varierande effekt och reducerade MRSA- förekomsten bäst i kombination. I vissa fall kunde brister i vårdpersonalens följsamhet (compliance) av hygienrutiner ses.

    Slutsats: För att reducera MRSA- förekomst och spridning är det viktigt att implementera de åtgärder som finns idag och som visat sig har effekt. För att genomföra detta krävs det att vårdpersonalens följsamhet blir bättre.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose: This study examines pedagogues’ thoughts about children’s understanding of death, and their reactions to the death of a relative. The aim is also to examine pedagogues’ thoughts about their part in supporting bereaved children, and how they wish to do so. Method: Seven pedagogues, who work with six to nine year old children, were interviewed. The interviews were kept individually in quiet rooms. Result: The pedagogues thought that children’s thoughts about and reactions to death is individual. The pedagogues also meant that it was their responsibility to support bereaved children, but the children’s wishes decided in what way it should be done. The pedagogues exemplified strategies in how to support bereaved children e.g. talking and listening to them, hugging them and letting them know that they are there for them if they need them. Other strategies were reading death-related books to them or letting them watch pictures of the relative who is deceased and talk to them about it. The pedagogues also thought it was important to keep an eye on the bereaved child in case the grief affected the school achievements or if they started to feel worse. In that case some specialist would have to help the child to feel better.

    Bakgrund: Kvinnor som utsatts för våld i nära relarion kommer mer frekvent i kontakt med sjukvården än andra kvinnor. Flera kvinnor som söker vård för sina skador identifieras aldrig som offer för våld i nära relation. Detta beror på att flera sjuksköterskor saknar utbildning i att identifiera att våld förekommer. Det finns en osäkerhet hos sjuksköterskan i mötet med våldsutsatta kvinnor som gör att mötet med vården av kvinnan påverkas.

    Syfte: Syftet var att belysa sjuksköterskans upplevelse och föreställningar av mötet med våldsutsatta kvinnor inom hälso-och sjukvården.

    Metod: En systematisk litteraturstudie där sex kvalitativa artiklar och två kvantitativa artiklar har granskats, analyserats och kategoriserats.

    Resultat: Det fanns en tydlig emotionell påverkan hos sjuksköterskor under och efter mötet med våldsutsatta kvinnor. En påverkan som ibland var så stor att det påverkade deras privatliv. Det visade sig även finnas ett stort utbildningsbehov att förbättra vården för våldsutsatta kvinnor och få sjuksköterskor att känna sig tryggare i rollen som vårdare för dessa kvinnor.

    Slutsats: Det visade sig finnas ett ökat utbildningsbehov för sjuksköterskor i hur de ska bemöta och vårda kvinnor som utsatts för våld i nära relationer. Det fanns även ett behov av att bearbeta de känslor sjuksköterskan upplevde i mötet med kvinnorna.

    Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka vilken uppfattning vårdnadshavare och lärare i fritidshem har angående obligatorisk läxhjälp på fritidshemmet samt om fritidshemmets verksamhet får några konsekvenser om obligatorisk läxhjälp införs. Studiens metod bygger på en kvalitativ enkätundersökning med 38 vårdnadshavare samt kvalitativa personliga intervjuer med 5 olika lärare i fritidshem från 5 olika skolor. Resultatet visar att uppfattningarna som vårdnadshavare har angående obligatorisk läxhjälp på fritidshemmet var både positiv och negativ. En del anser att läxhjälp på fritidshemmet är bra eftersom många barn har långa dagar på skolan och fritidshemmet. Andra anser tvärtom att läxhjälp är skolans ansvar och inte ska förekomma på fritidshemmet. Det framkommer även att lärare i fritidshem är överens med vårdnadshavare. Argument som förs fram är rättvisa och andra menar att fritidshemmet är ett komplement till skolan inte deras förlängda arm. Fritidshemmets verksamhet påverkas enligt vårdnadshavare och lärare i fritidshem på olika sätt. Det framkommer att läxhjälp ett par gånger i veckan inte inverkar på verksamheten, dock behövs det mer personal i så fall. Medan andra menar att utevistelse och annat påverkas.

    Syfte: Syftet med denna uppsats är att identifiera och analysera faktorer som påverkar utformningen av belöningssystem i hotellbranschen. Vidare syftar uppsatsen till att jämföra ledares och medarbetares perspektiv för att undersöka hur belöningssystemen bidrar till målkongruens.  

    Metod: Studien har genomförts med en abduktiv ansats och kvalitativ metod. Genom semi- strukturerade intervjuer har data samlats in från fyra hotell i Kalmar. Data har analyserats tillsammans med teorier för att uppfylla studiens syfte och besvara dess forskningsfrågor.

    Slutsatser: Ledarna spelar in på utformningen av belöningssystemet genom att belöna dem som de själva anser tillför något utöver det vanliga. Deras syn på rättvisa påverkar hur de delar ut belöningar och om man fokuserar på grupp eller individ. Ekonomiska förutsättningar styr belöningarnas storlek och budgetuppfyllelse leder till ytterligare belöningar. Att ingå i en hotellkedja bidrar med att kunna erbjuda belöningar som karriär- och utvecklingsmöjligheter men att inte tillhöra någon kedja ger däremot en större flexibilitet vid val av belöningar. En mix av individuella och gruppbaserade samt finansiella och icke-finansiella belöningar är att föredra för att uppnå målkongruens i en bransch som förutsätter samarbete. Kan man mäta prestationer på ett sätt som upplevs rättvist av medarbetare undkommer man svårigheterna med utdelning av individuella belöningar. Stämmer utdelade belöningar överens med medarbetares belöningspreferenser ökas graden av målkongruens. Finansiella belöningar kan kompensera bristande karriärmöjligheter. Icke-finansiella belöningar kan väga upp för avsaknaden av finansiella belöningar. Genom de studerade belöningssystemens utformning lyckas företagsledare på olika sätt skapa målkongruens.

    Depuis au moins 17 ans la matière scolaire la langue française baisse en popularité au lycée suédois. Pendant la même période, des sondages internationaux comme l’enquête PISA ont montré que l’école suédoise n’accomplit pas de bons résultats. C’est la politique scolaire qui par ses directives forme le développement de l’enseignement, et, par conséquent, les connaissances chez les étudiants. Les directives très importantes pour les professeurs sont les plans d’études (en suédois ämnesplaner), et ceux-ci devraient être des soutiens pour les professeurs dans leur enseignement.

    Ceci dit, comment se porte le français, une des langues vivantes?

    Dans cette étude, nous cherchons à trouver comment le plan d’études pour les langues vivantes a influencé l’enseignement du français au lycée. La méthode utilisée est qualitative et phénoménologique. Nous avons étudié un nombre de documents sur le sujet pour obtenir une image factuelle.  Pour compléter l’étude nous avons également interviewé trois professeurs avec une grande expérience de l’enseignement. L’objectif était d’obtenir leurs points de vue sur l’importance qu’ils donnent aux plans directifs.

    Les résultats ont montré que le plan d’études actuel donne aux  professeurs une grande liberté sur comment former leurs enseignements. Comme conséquence, cette possibilité est favorable aux enseignants expérimentés mais elle donne moins de soutiens aux enseignants novices.  Nous pouvons aussi constater que ce manque de cursus consultatif peut apporter un enseignement moins efficace, surtout quand le système scolaire suédois manque de professeurs diplômés. En outre, après avoir étudié  des rapports sur la situation des langues vivantes, nous avons remarqué qu’il semble y avoir un manque de volonté politique de fortifier ces langues.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of the study was to investigate the forest in the national park on the Blue Maiden Island and compare with mainland forest data. The study was made in a quantitative way. The results from the field measurement were related to data from the Swedish National Forest Inventory.

    Oak, Scots pine and Lime were the most common tree species and constituted 47, 18 and 16 % of basal area, respectively, on the island.

    The mean heigt was 7 m and the volume of living trees was on average 72 m³/ha and dead wood 30 m³/ha. The average age at breast height was 137 years and the oldest tree was an oak with the age of 335 years at breast height. The amount of dead wood constituted 40 % of the total volume. Disturbances have had influence on the forest on the Island. To what extent cannot be determined without further investigations.

    Marketers have always been looking for alternative ways to reach the target population with their messages. One approach that has grown the last decades is product placement that has become a large arena for companies to involve in their marketing communication. It has been shown that people tend to dislike traditional advertisement such as commercial brakes in TV and tries to avoid it by switching channel. Since product placement is a type of advertisement that is embedded in a movie or TV-show and cannot be zapped away without missing the story of the movie or TV-show, it is a good opportunity to reach out with a company’s message.

    Several studies have been done in the field of mapping the attitudes towards product placement but no research has been done with the Swedish audience in focus. Therefore the purpose of this thesis is: “…to investigate what attitudes the Swedish audience has towards product placements in Movies and TV-shows”, which will lead to a greater knowledge for Swedish marketing managers about the attitudes towards product placement in Sweden.

    This thesis is a quantitative study with a descriptive single cross-sectional design. The data was retrieved through a questionnaire online. The sample frame was generation Y which is people that are between the ages 18-35.

    The study showed that the general attitude towards product placement is positive for the Swedish audience. When it comes to the different dimensions of product placement; visual-only, audio-only and a combination audio-visual it is shown that the visual placements is seen as the most positive way to place a product in a movie or a TV-show. It could also be seen several similarities with previous studies that prominent placement has a lower attitude while a subtle placements has a more positive attitude.

    Denna uppsats behandlar nätverksoptimering, med fokus på att få fram den bästa möjliga tillgängligheten till lägsta möjliga kostnad, i form av länkar. I studien tas en teoretiskt grundad hypotes om en metod fram för att lösa detta problemet. Samt genomförs ett test där metoden appliceras på ett studieobjekt för att bekräfta huruvida metoden verkar fungerar eller inte.

    Studien behandlar hur begreppet genus uppfattas och uttrycks utifrån pedagogernas synvinkel, pedagogernas sätt att bemöta barnen, hur de formar lokalerna, vilket material som erbjuds och på vilket sätt det påverkar barnen utifrån ett genusperspektiv. Studien uppmärksammar även på vilket sätt pedagogerna arbetar för att uppfylla de önskemål de har för hur de vill att genus uttrycks i verksamheten. Metoden som används för studien är intervju med ljudinspelning och tretton respondenter har deltagit.

    Studien visar att pedagogerna uppfattar genus som mer än hur man förhåller sig till könen. De uppfattar att begreppets innebörd även innefattar till exempel individens bakgrund, etnicitet och religion. De arbetar medvetet med att inte göra skillnad mellan könen, utan utgår istället från individens intressen och erfarenheter. Dock kan detta variera vid olika aktiviteter och situationer i förskolans vardag.

    Majoriteten av de tillfrågade pedagogerna har en tanke för hur de väljer att forma lokalerna utifrån ett genusperspektiv. Pedagogerna anser att det finns genusifierat material men att detta inte behöver ha någon betydelse för vilka som väljer det. Det handlar om på vilket sätt pedagogerna presenterar det och samtalar om det med barnen.

    Aim of the thesis: The aim of this thesis is to describe and gain a deeper understanding of how companies use communication as a tool to overcome the gap between the company and the consumer. The aim is also to clarify some of the factors contributing to this gap.Method:  This thesis has been made from a qualitative approach with quantitative influences. The qualitative primary data collection was gathered through six in-depth interviews with companies in Gothenburg either selling organic and fair-trade produced clothes or marketing towards sustainable consumption. The quantitative part consists of a consumer questionnaire given to 100 women in the inner city of Gothenburg.  Frame of references: Related researches within the field of the subject are presented in the beginning of this chapter. Further theories presented are the consumer’s awareness and the consumer´s responsiveness to CSR. The consumer buying process connects the consumer to the company and how the company reacts and communicates.    Conclusions: The consumer lack adequate information to consume organic and fair-trade clothes. Social Entrepreneurs can help them overcome the issue, but needs to improve their CSR-communication.     This study is based on a qualitative internet research about people with Asperger syndrome and their thoughts and opinions about the difficulties that occurs in the environment outside the home and their experiences of Internet. We have analyzed Internets social influences for those with Asperger syndrome, as a consequence of the difficulties that they meet in other environments. The constructed communities in the environment outside the home and the social interaction that occurs there is not adjusted for those with the diagnosis. This leads to difficulties to be there for those with Asperger syndrome. By doing a content analysis of the assembled data from a community site on the Internet, we found out that the environment on Internet is more comfortable for those with the diagnosis in several ways. A lot of people who earlier felt alone and excluded has thanks to the Internet been able to develop a healthy social life.

    This thesis has analysed incident and maintenance reports concerning the FirstMarine Regiment’s combat boat maintenance system. The aim was to find thosepossible deficiencies and shortcomings causing reduced accessibility. In addition, thethesis includes an analysis of maintenance-related statistics reported in 2008. Byusing these reports and statistical data as our factual base, we have examined thoseparts of the maintenance system and its components most frequently affected bydeficiencies and shortcomings. The thesis presents the most likely reasons for thesenegative occurrences, but also recommendations regarding measures that willincrease the overall accessibility.During our research, however, it also became evident that the main and most likelyreason for the reduced accessibility was the inherent capacity of the maintenancesystem (DIUS) used by the Royal Swedish Navy. In conclusion, this system is notsufficiently adapted to the great number of naval units and personnel who are usingit. Further, the naval personnel operating the system sometimes lack adequatetraining.

    This is a study about how realtors or estate agents market their services in social media. Social media is an upcoming channel in marketing and is becoming more important every day. The user generated content on internet is a new way of communication where companies don’t have to be considered as soulless, if companies use it correctly. This study investigates estate agents efforts to market their services in these channels and how they do it. The study has interviewed four different realtors, marketing executives and a communication office. The motivation for the study is that realtors tend to market their services like they always have but with a consistently changing market, so should their marketing do. The method has been interviews and interpretation of data with the knowledge of my university studies. The results of the study has shown that realtors today are aware of a new channels, such as facebook and twitter, but do not know how to use it and are learning by doing. A conclusion is that in a near future, customers will see a lot more marketing in these channels from these consignors.

    Africa’s agricultural productivity is the lowest in the world. At the same time the largest proportion of poor people live in rural areas where they are dependent upon agriculture for their survival. Agriculture is thus an essential to consider when fighting poverty. Women make up 70-80 % of the labour force in the agricultural sector and produce about 80% of the food for the household. Women are at the same time dependent upon their husbands for access to agricultural land and financial resources. Despite the important role of agriculture for poverty reduction, the sector continues to lack attention from both governments and international organizations, and the fact that gender discrimination is a cause of poverty is rarely raised.

     

    This thesis aims to investigate, through a field study in Zambia, which conditions and circumstances that create low agricultural productivity, based on how the peasants themselves perceive it. The paper aims to problematize the question of low agricultural productivity by looking at the issue of land access and gender equality. This thesis takes its methodological point of departure in a qualitative ethnographic field study with semi-structured interviews. In order to analyze the peasants situation Sustainable Rural Livelihood has been used as an analytical framework.

     

    The result of this thesis shows that peasants’ productivity mainly is hampered by the fact that they lack access to productive and financial resources. The overall difficult macro-economic situation in Zambia, together with the fact that investments from the government in the agricultural sector and in rural development is small, contributes to a situation that hinders peasants’ opportunities to increase productivity with other means than just working harder. Furthermore, the result shows that women experience gender discrimination in accessing land, credits and education. The difference between men and women is structural and is the result of unequal access to resources, which have given men more power and influence. Hence, women have become dependent upon their husbands to gain access to land and financial resources, implying that women become both vulnerable and isolated. Access to land would strengthen women’s economical dependency and give them the possibility to control the income and investment made in agriculture.

    The question about economic inequality belongs possibly to one of the most controversial questions throughout history. The opinions regarding the pros and cons of economic inequality, but mostly regarding the degree of economic inequality are divided. Initially it was assumed that economic inequality was a precondition for economic growth since it generates investment and is essential for the creation of incentives. New research, however, suggest that growth and economic inequality has a negative relationship, especially when considered in the long run. If so, this is of great importance for economic and political decisions. Moreover, it is considered that a high degree of economic inequality prevents an inclusive political and economic society that could have a setback on the economic growth rate. This paper, taking its starting point in a mixed method, examines the relationship between economic inequality and economic growth.

    Studiens syfte är att undersöka om eleverna, genom arbetssättet Läsglädje, har utvecklat sin läsförståelse, läsglädje och kunskap om hur man använder biblioteket. Genom intervjuer med ett antal lärare och en bibliotekarie, samt genom iakttagelser, har vi fått svar på studiens frågor. Resultatet visar att eleverna har utvecklats med arbetssättet Läsglädje. Bland annat har boksamtalen lett till att de förbättrat sin läsförståelse, läsning av ett varierat utbud av skönlitteratur har ökat elevernas läsglädje och arbetet i biblioteket har utvecklat deras bibliotekskunskap. Vidare visar resultatet hur elevernas kunskaper, inom de nämnda områdena, kommit till uttryck i följande årskurser.

    Syftet med föreliggande studie var att undersöka om och i sådana fall vilka faktorer som unga heterosexuella kvinnor upplevde som begränsande för sin sexualitet. Med hjälp av semistrukturerade intervjuer undersöktes i denna kvalitativa studie hur dessa deltagare upplevde sin sexualitet utifrån tre huvudområden; sociala strukturer, normer samt psykisk hälsa. Teorin “sexual scripting theory” applicerades på de tre huvudområdena, då paralleller drogs mellan dessa och teorins tre huvudbegrepp “cultural scripts”, “interpersonal scripts” och “intrapsychic scripts”. Resultatet av denna studie visade att patriarkala strukturer, samhällsideal, jämförelser med andra, förväntningar och föreställningar om kvinnans utseende samt beteende var hämmande för deltagarnas sexualitet. Resultatet visade även att det fanns tydliga samband mellan sexualiteten och den psykiska hälsan. Negativa sexuella erfarenheter upplevdes påverka deltagarnas psykiska hälsa och blev hämmande för framtida sexuella upplevelser. Många begränsande faktorer identifierades utifrån resultatet i denna studie och en inblick i deltagarnas förhållande till sin sexualitet utforskades.

    Abstract

    The purpose of this research is to examine if female interests have been included in different levels of water governance in Cuamba municipality, Mozambique in order to understand if gender equality and women empowerment is being addressed at the grassroots level. In Sub-Saharan Africa women generally have the responsibility of fetching water and are therefore directly affected by the quality and accessibility of water and sanitation services. Though gender mainstreaming and policies addressing gender equality has been adopted in Mozambique, the actual difference that these measures have made to the lives of women in Mozambique is questionable.  A qualitative single case study has been conducted, by interviewing government institutions, the private sector and civil society actors at district and municipality level in Cuamba. The findings reveal that it is the municipality government, FIPAG and the traditional leaders that are the main actors with the power over the distribution of water in Cuamba and through a joint effort the water situation has improved a lot in recent years. The interest in water among women was mainly focused to having a water source while the main interests among men was to have a shorter distance as well as shorter queues to the water source. An abductive method of the analytical framework consisting of four dimensions of water governance and rethinking em(power)ment, gender and development has been used to guide the analysis of the findings in a more comprehensive manner thus investigating the power structures in each dimension of water governance with a focus on women empowerment. The result indicates that women living in the urban areas were more empowered in all notions of power due to better access to information and education thus giving them more time and individual knowledge to collectively and individually demand power over the distribution of water. Due to lack of empowerment among women living in the rural areas, these women demanded less regarding the distribution of water and had less individual understanding of water governance. Furthermore the interests among women living in the rural areas were mostly included in the decision-making processes as it generally concerned having access to a clean water source. As the women in the urban areas demanded more and had more interests in water governance it became clear that the female interests in the urban areas were not included in decision-making. By including more women in decision-making bodies in water governance and putting more emphasis on education for women these issues could be addressed.

    Abstract [en]

    Sulfite is the most important antioxidant in beer. Quantification of sulfite is crucial due to restrictions as an additive and for investigative purposes of sulfite and thiol-containing proteins role as redox mediators. A method based on fluorometric determination of sulfite and thiol-containing compounds in beer was developed. The analytes were derivatized with ThioGlo®  1 and subsequently separated on a C18 column with wide pore size, featuring a high-performance liquid chromatography system equipped with fluorescence detector. Two peaks corresponding to sulfite derivatives were observed. The two derivatives were assessed with exact mass spectrometry and both provided identical mass spectra. To compensate for adverse matrix effects in samples a matrix-matched calibration curve is proposed. Sulfite diminished in an inverse exponential manner upon hydrogen peroxide addition in beer. The amount of thiol groups decreased when beer was subjected to oxidative stress, thus confirming its antioxidative role in beer.

    A method was developed for quantification of sulfite in beer based on derivatization with the maleimide-derived probe ThioGlo I followed by separation of fluorescent adducts by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography and fluorescence detection. Sulfite gave two ThioGlo 1 derivatives and it was shown by mass spectrometry that both had identical mass spectra. Matrix effects were observed when constructing sulfite standard curves in different beers and, therefore, use of a matrix-matched calibration curve is proposed. ThioGlo I was found to generate fluorescent adducts with both bound and free sulfite, providing a quantification of the total sulfite content in beer. The limit of quantification of sulfite was 0.6 mg/L and the method can be used for quantification of sulfite in highly colored beers.

    Abstract [en]

    Background: Self-care is a multi-dimensional concept and has different definitions. Amongthe definitions, Orem’s definition of self-care is more consistent. Orem (1995) argues that,self-care is a personal activity to take care and maintain of own self health and illness andprevention of disease related complications.

    Aim: The aim of the paper was to investigate the factors that contribute to self-care behavioramong patients with Type 2 DM as argued in the literature.

    Method: data was collected from the following electronic databases: CINAHL, PubMed,LibHub, SweMed and Google Scholar-to find full texts. Data was analyzed through CriticalAppraisal Skill Programme. To ensure validity and reliability the author were blinded toreduce study bias and articles were selected according their quality.

    Result: 31 relevant studies were included in the review, among the major findings of the studywere; Age, Social support/network, high income level, high educational attainment and longType 2 DM diagnosis history had a positive predictor in Type 2 DM patients self-carecontributing factors.

    Conclusion: To improve a Type 2 DM patients self-care activities the present study concludedthat Demographic, Socio-Economic and Social support factors are among the positivecontributors in patients of Type 2 DM successful Self-Care activities.

    Abstract [en]

    The region around the supernova remnant (SNR) W41 contains several TeV sources and has prompted the HESS Collaboration to perform deep observations of this field of view. This resulted in the discovery of the new very high energy (VHE) source HESS J1832-093, at the position RA = 18(h)32(m)50(s) +/- 3(stat)(s) +/- 2(syst)(s), Dec = -9 degrees 22'36 '' +/- 32(stat)'' +/- 20(syst)'' (J2000), spatially coincident with a part of the radio shell of the neighbouring remnant G22.7-0.2. The photon spectrum is well described by a power law of index Gamma = 2.6 +/- 0.3(stat) +/- 0.1(syst) and a normalization at 1 TeV of Phi(0) = (4.8 +/- 0.8(stat) +/- 1.0(syst)) x 10(-13) cm(-2) s(-1) TeV-1. The location of the gamma-ray emission on the edge of the SNR rim first suggested a signature of escaping cosmic rays illuminating a nearby molecular cloud. Then a dedicated XMM-Newton observation led to the discovery of a new X-ray point source spatially coincident with the TeV excess. Two other scenarios were hence proposed to identify the nature of HESS J1832-093. Gamma-rays from inverse Compton radiation in the framework of a pulsar wind nebula scenario or the possibility of gamma-ray production within a binary system are therefore also considered. Deeper multiwavelength observations will help to shed new light on this intriguing VHE source.

    Abstract [en]

    Re-observations with the HESS telescope array of the very high-energy (VHE) source HESS J1018-589 A that is coincident with the Fermi-LAT γ-ray binary 1FGL J1018.6-5856 have resulted in a source detection significance of more than 9σ and the detection of variability (χ$^2$/ν of 238.3/155) in the emitted γ-ray flux. This variability confirms the association of HESS J1018-589 A with the high-energy γ-ray binary detected by Fermi-LAT and also confirms the point-like source as a new VHE binary system. The spectrum of HESS J1018-589 A is best fit with a power-law function with photon index Γ = 2.20 \plusmn 0.14$_stat$ \plusmn 0.2$_sys$. Emission is detected up to ~20 TeV. The mean differential flux level is (2.9 \plusmn 0.4) \times 10$^-13$ TeV$^-1$ cm$^-2$ s$^-1$ at 1 TeV, equivalent to ~1% of the flux from the Crab Nebula at the same energy. Variability is clearly detected in the night-by-night light curve. When folded on the orbital period of 16.58 days, the rebinned light curve peaks in phase with the observed X-ray and high-energy phaseograms. The fit of the HESS phaseogram to a constant flux provides evidence of periodicity at the level of N$_sigma$\gt 3σ. The shape of the VHE phaseogram and measured spectrum suggest a low-inclination, low-eccentricity system with amodest impact from VHE γ-ray absorption due to pair production (τ \lsim 1 at 300 GeV).

    Abstract [en]

    The gamma-ray spectrum of the low-frequency-peaked BL Lac (LBL) object AP Librae is studied, following the discovery of very-high-energy (VHE; E > 100 GeV) gamma-ray emission up to the TeV range by the H.E.S.S. experiment. Thismakes AP Librae one of the few VHE emitters of the LBL type. The measured spectrum yields a flux of (8.8 +/- 1.5(stat) +/- 1.8(sys)) x 10(-12) cm(-2) s(-1) above 130 GeV and a spectral index of Gamma = 2.65 +/- 0.19(stat) +/- 0.20(sys). This study also makes use of Fermi-LAT observations in the high energy (HE, E > 100 MeV) range, providing the longest continuous light curve (5 years) ever published on this source. The source underwent a flaring event between MJD 56 306-56 376 in the HE range, with a flux increase of a factor of 3.5 in the 14 day bin light curve and no significant variation in spectral shape with respect to the low-flux state. While the H.E.S.S. and (low state) Fermi-LAT fluxes are in good agreement where they overlap, a spectral curvature between the steep VHE spectrum and the Fermi-LAT spectrum is observed. The maximum of the gamma-ray emission in the spectral energy distribution is located below the GeV energy range.

    Abstract [en]

    Context. Very-high-energy (VHE; E > 100 GeV) gamma-ray emission from blazars inevitably gives rise to electron-positron pair production through the interaction of these gamma-rays with the extragalactic background light (EBL). Depending on the magnetic fields in the proximity of the source, the cascade initiated from pair production can result in either an isotropic halo around an initially- beamed source or a magnetically- broadened cascade :aux. Aims. Both extended pair-halo (PH) and magnetically broadened cascade (MBC) emission from regions surrounding the blazars 1ES 1101-232, IRS 0229+200, and PKS 2155-304 were searched for using VHE y-ray data taken with the High Energy Stereoscopic System (HESS.) and high-energy (HE; 100 MeV < E < 100 GeV) gamma-ray data with the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT). Methods. By comparing the angular distributions of the reconstructed gamma-ray events to the angular profiles calculated from detailed theoretical models, the presence of PH and MBC was investigated. Results. Upper limits on the extended emission around lES 1101-232, lES 0229+200, and PKS 2155-304 are found to be at a level of a few per cent of the Crab nebula flux above 1 TeV, depending on the assumed photon index of the cascade emission. Assuming strong extra-Galactic magnetic field (EGME) values, >10(-12) G, this limits the production of pair haloes developing from electromagnetic cascades. For weaker magnetic fields, in which electromagnetic cascades would result in MBCs. EGMF strengths in the range (0.3-3) x 10(-15) G were excluded for PKS 2155-304 at the 99% confidence level, under the assumption of a 1 Mpc coherence length.

    Abstract [en]

    The non-thermal nature of the X-ray emission from the shell-type supernova remnants (SNRs) G1.9+0.3 and G330.2+1.0 is an indication of intense particle acceleration in the shock fronts of both objects. This suggests that the SNRs are prime candidates for very-high-energy (VHE; E > 0.1 TeV) gamma-ray observations. G1.9+0.3, recently established as the youngest known SNR in the Galaxy, also offers a unique opportunity to study the earliest stages of SNR evolution in the VHE domain. The purpose of this work is to probe the level of VHE gamma-ray emission from both SNRs and use this to constrain their physical properties. Observations were conducted with the H. E. S. S. (High Energy Stereoscopic System) Cherenkov Telescope Array over a more than six-year period spanning 2004-2010. The obtained data have effective livetimes of 67 h for G1.9+0.3 and 16 h for G330.2+1.0. The data are analysed in the context of the multiwavelength observations currently available and in the framework of both leptonic and hadronic particle acceleration scenarios. No significant gamma-ray signal from G1.9+0.3 or G330.2+1.0 was detected. Upper limits (99 per cent confidence level) to the TeV flux from G1.9+0.3 and G330.2+1.0 for the assumed spectral index Gamma = 2.5 were set at 5.6 x 10(-1)3 cm(-2) s(-1) above 0.26 TeV and 3.2 x 10(-12) cm(-2) s(-1) above 0.38 TeV, respectively. In a one-zone leptonic scenario, these upper limits imply lower limits on the interior magnetic field to B-G1.9 greater than or similar to 12 mu G for G1.9+0.3 and to B-G330 greater than or similar to 8 mu G for G330.2+1.0. In a hadronic scenario, the low ambient densities and the large distances to the SNRs result in very low predicted fluxes, for which the H.E.S.S. upper limits are not constraining.

    Abstract [en]

    Composite supernova remnants (SNRs) constitute a small subclass of the remnants of massive stellar explosions where non-thermal radiation is observed from both the expanding shell-like shock front and from a pulsar wind nebula (PWN) located inside of the SNR. These systems represent a unique evolutionary phase of SNRs where observations in the radio, X-ray, and gamma-ray regimes allow the study of the co-evolution of both these energetic phenomena. In this article, we report results from observations of the shell-type SNR G15.4+0.1 performed with the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H. E. S. S.) and XMM-Newton. A compact TeV gamma-ray source, HESS J1818-154, located in the center and contained within the shell of G15.4+0.1 is detected by H. E. S. S. and featurs a spectrum best represented by a power-law model with a spectral index of -2.3 +/- 0.3(stat) +/- 0.2(sys) and an integral flux of F(>0.42 TeV) = (0.9 +/- 0.3(stat) +/- 0.2(sys)) x 10(-12) cm(-2) s(-1). Furthermore, a recent observation with XMM-Newton reveals extended X-ray emission strongly peaked in the center of G15.4+0.1. The X-ray source shows indications of an energy-dependent morphology featuring a compact core at energies above 4 keV and more extended emission that fills the entire region within the SNR at lower energies. Together, the X-ray and VHE gamma-ray emission provide strong evidence of a PWN located inside the shell of G15.4+0.1 and this SNR can therefore be classified as a composite based on these observations. The radio, X-ray, and gamma-ray emission from the PWN is compatible with a one-zone leptonic model that requires a low average magnetic field inside the emission region. An unambiguous counterpart to the putative pulsar, which is thought to power the PWN, has been detected neither in radio nor in X-ray observations of G15.4+0.1.

    Abstract [en]

    Context. About 40% of the observation time of the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.) is dedicated to studying active galactic nuclei (AGN), with the aim of increasing the sample of known extragalactic very-high-energy (VHE, E > 100 GeV) sources and constraining the physical processes at play in potential emitters.Aims. H.E.S.S. observations of AGN, spanning a period from April 2004 to December 2011, are investigated to constrain their gamma-ray fluxes. Only the 47 sources without significant excess detected at the position of the targets are presented.Methods. Upper limits on VHE fluxes of the targets were computed and a search for variability was performed on the nightly time scale.Results. For 41 objects, the flux upper limits we derived are the most constraining reported to date. These constraints at VHE are compared with the flux level expected from extrapolations of Fermi-LAT measurements in the two-year catalog of AGN. The H.E.S.S. upper limits are at least a factor of two lower than the extrapolated Fermi-LAT fluxes for 11 objects Taking into account the attenuation by the extragalactic background light reduces the tension for all but two of them, suggesting intrinsic curvature in the high-energy spectra of these two AGN.Conclusions. Compilation efforts led by current VHE instruments are of critical importance for target-selection strategies before the advent of the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA).
