    Inom industriell tillverkning har alla maskiner en teoretisk duglighet. Den skiljer sig däremot från den faktiska när den sätts i en process, där påverkas dugligheten av samtliga resurser i processen. Electrolux Laundry Systems har problem i sin plåtberedning som beror på att dugligheten bland plåtberedningens maskiner är okänd.

    Projektet handlar om att beräkna dugligheten i Electrolux Laundry Systems plåtberedningsmaskiner samt ge förslag på hur dugligheten kan förbättras och övervakas. De studerade maskinerna består av tre stansar och fem bockningsmaskiner. Dugligheten mäts i duglighetsindexet Cpk. Mätdatan plottas även i diagram måttvis.

    Resultatet från studien visar att samtliga plåtberedningmaskiners duglighet beräknades till under 1,0. Ett godkänt värde bör ligga mellan 1,33 och 1,66. Det betyder att plåtberedningsprocessen inte är duglig.

    Abstract [en]

    Based on previous experiences, making the subject Product Development understandable for the students' needs more and clear examples. In this case, it is easier for the students to understand if the products selected as examples are familiar to them. The idea was to make the students take the roles of design engineers, costumers, and users of the product which would be developed. That is the reason to select a student bicycle as example. A questionnaire, which was prepared and sent to students in different European countries, was used to collect the voice of the customer. Based on the gathered information, the process of product development was applied to achieve a conceptual design based on customers' requirements. This paper is presenting how a student bicycle example was developed and used in a product development course. In the preparation of the example two final year students were involved in cooperation with the authors of this paper. The result from this work was improved and modified by the authors to be suitable as a teaching example.

    Abstract [en]

    Mechanical failures in general can appear because of weak design, wrong handling, and problems during the manufacturing process, material problems etc. This paper is dealing with failures in lifting machinery gearboxes which appear because of material stresses and tribological problems. The study conducted is based on theoretical analysis and analysis of inspection results for failures that have appeared in cranes and other lifting machinery in southern part of Sweden. Investigation shows that besides the surface damages like abrasive and adhesive failures also cracks in the material in different parts appear. Since these types of gearboxes are made in short series, gearbox housings and sometimes also gears are made of welded steel. Hence welding process makes the weld joints brittle; cracks do start and developed until the part fails. Another problem that happens due to welding is wrapping which leads to changes in the geometrical tolerances and that does affect the parallelism of the shafts and the functionality of the gearbox.

    Abstract [en]

    Market needs and customer expectations on new products grow continuously, which increases the requirements on the product engineers and designers. Respectively, is becomes real challenge to educate engineering students theoretically by studding contemporary methods and techniques in design and practically mastering skills in multi-disciplinary product development process. The presented paper is meant to introduce an experiment in teaching Product development course for Mechanical engineering students at Linnaeus University (LNU). After teaching the course in several years we experience that, teaching creativity, critical thinking and decision making by presenting different tools and techniques, could be hard to make it inspiring enough for the students. During the fall semester of 2014 a decision was taken to re-design the course by shifting some of the activities and responsibilities from the teacher to the students. They were involved in delivering and clarifying the theory by summarizing the lectures. Students have an active role in working on industrial projects and presenting the results achieved. The individual apprizing based on the group members contribution was also a students' responsibility. There were benefits but also some problems which will be discussed in this paper. The conclusion made after this experiment reflected in the course planning for the next years.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper presents some of the experience of two European Universities concerning regular student feedback in the area of higher education quality, which is implemented at the end of every course of a particular subject. It also presents a comparison between survey questionnaires at Linnaeus University, Sweden in Machine Design courses, at the Mechanical Engineering Department, where such feedback has been applied during the last fifteen years, and the existing experience in the same field at the Department of Machine Sciences, Machine Elements, and Engineering Graphics at the University of Ruse, Bulgaria. Conclusions are made on the necessity of providing students with regular opportunity to take part in quality management in higher education.

In the presented paper the emphasis is on the process followed during the design project and on the continuous and fruitful cooperation between the company providing the project, the student´s design team and the University itself.

    Abstract [sv]

    Tillverkningsföretag med lågvolymsproduktion måste hitta lösningar för att förbättra effektiviteten som inte kräver stora investeringar för att göra verksamheten lönsam. I denna studie undersöks hur effektiviteten kan förbättras för plåtdetaljer genom förändring av tillverkningsmetoder samt omkonstruktion med avseende på produktion.

    Genom undersökning av ett specifikt fall behandlar studien hur konventionella tillverkningsmetoder såsom svetsning och kantpressning kan ersättas med plåtformningsmetoder. Metoderna tryckformning, flexforming och djuppressning har studerats och utvärderats. Studien visar att flexformning och sammanfogning med skruvförband resulterar i kortare tillverkningstid, lägre tillverkningskostnader och lägre kompetens samtidigt som god kvalitet erhålls. Däremot kan ersättningen av kantpressning medföra en kostnadsökning till förmån för arbetsmiljön.

    Abstract [en]

    Wheel loaders are fundamental construction equipment to assist handling of bulk material e.g. gravel and stones. During digging operations, it withstands forces that are both large and very complicated to predict. Moreover, it is very expensive to develop prototypes of wheel loader for verification. Consequently, the Discrete Element Method (DEM) was introduced for gravel modeling a couple of years ago to enable prediction of these forces. The gravel model is connected with a Multibody System (MBS) model of the wheel loader, in this thesis a Volvo L180G.

    The co-simulation of these two systems is a very computer intensive operation and hence, it is important to investigate which parameters that have the largest influence on the simulation results. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the simulation sensitivity with respect to co-simulation communication interval, collision detection interval and gravel normal stiffness.The simulation results are verified by comparison with measurement data from previous tests performed by Volvo CE.

    The simulations are compared to investigate the relevant parameters. The conclusion of this thesis is that DEM is a method that in a very good way can predict the draft forces during digging operations.

    Undersökningens syfte är att kvantifiera legeringsintervallets påverkan på hållfastheten hos två olika aluminiumlegeringar som tillverkas av återvunnet aluminium, EN AB-46000 och en modifierad variant av denna, Modifierad 46000. Examensarbetet har utförts i samarbete med Stena Aluminium (SA) i Älmhult som återvinner aluminium från skrot. Detta har genomförts genom gjutning av provstavar, mekanisk provning samt mikroskopering. Gjutningen gjordes på Tekniska Högskolan i Jönköping (JTH), dragprovningen på Linnéuniversitet (LNU) och mikroskoperingen både på LNU och SA. All data som samlades in analyserades sedan för att kunna sammankoppla legeringssammansättning med hållfasthetsvärden och mikrostruktur.

    Undersökningens syfte är att skapa en kartläggning av Södra Cells alla värmeväxlare för att sedan göra en djupare analys av ett tjugotal viktiga värmeväxlare där teoretiska beräkningar utfördes på värmegenomgångskoefficienten. Sedan valdes fyra värmeväxlare ut för att undersöka varför dessa inte fungerar optimalt. Examensarbetet har utförts i samarbete med Södra Cell i Mörrum som tillverkar pappersmassa och textilmassa. Detta har genomförts genom teoretiska beräkningar och analyser. Alla data som har samlats in har sammanställts och analyserats för att hitta orsakerna till att värmeväxlarna inte fungerar optimalt.

    Abstract [en]

    This work focuses mainly on the resistance of members to flexural buckling

    according to Eurocode 3. The work provides the mathematical backgrounds to the

    equations and buckling curves presented in Eurocode 3. The work also, attempts to

    reveal how different imperfections influence the flexural buckling resistance which is

    demonstrated through Finite Element (FE) simulations.

    The work presents modeling and analysis on a steel column in ABAQUS 6.14.

    Linear and non-linear buckling analyses of the steel column, with the influence of

    imperfections, are implemented in this work. Specifically, the imperfections

    considered in this study are material plasticity, initial bow and residual stress.

    The influence of initial bow imperfection of 0.1% of the length of the column

    considering flexural buckling was found to be 45.28% of the Euler buckling load.

    The influence of residual stresses, with a magnitude of maximum about 13% in the

    flange and 35% in the web, of the yielding strength, on flexural buckling is about

    31.9% of the design Euler buckling load. The combined effect of residual stress and

    initial bow imperfection on flexural buckling is about 45.34% of the design Euler

    buckling load.

    Abstract [en]

    The task performed in this assignment is to improve the reliability of Norden Machinery ABs product family. This is to be done by examining and replacing the belt used to stop the spreading of tubes from ingoing shipping crate to the infeed of the machine. The way that this was approached was by testing different candidates on a spectrum of their rigidity to find if a flexible or more rigid belt would perform better than the current context of the system. The testing was conducted for a period of 4 weeks and results were gathered by examining damages to the belts by the use of microscope. After the damage had been analyzed the conclusion was drawn that flexible alternatives seems to perform the task better than their rigid counterparts however more work is needed in the fields regarding the fastening and operation of the machine to use the best suited candidates derived from this test, the monolithic belt FMT-02TXCT-U1.

    Detta examensarbete har utförts på Stena Aluminium (SA) i Älmhult. Undersökningen handlar om att mäta vätgashalten genom densitetsindexprover på smält aluminium, för att kartlägga hur vätgashalten påverkas av processtegen vid återvinning av aluminium i SAs produktions-anläggning. I arbetet ingick att undersöka vätgashalten för två olika legeringstyper (EN-AB 43400 och 46000), utvärdera avgasningseffektivitet för de utvalda legeringstyperna och att utvärdera den befintliga utgjutningssystemet. Mätningar för undersökningen är utförda i SAs smältverk, vid processtegen raffinering och utgjutning.

    Abstract [en]

    Second to steel, aluminium is the most widely used metal and its applications are manifold. It is available in all forms; such is wire, bars, extrusions, power, forging and casting. One of the major characteristics of aluminium is that it is very well suited for recycling. Recycled aluminium is known as secondary aluminium, but maintains the same physical properties as primary aluminium.

     The Company XY is a cast house in the Nordic countries supplying aluminium cast products. Customers today are placing greater demands on the products strength and quality. An important quality parameter of aluminium is its purity from contaminants, where hydrogen is one of the major issues with impact on the strength of the final product.

     The hydrogen content has been measured by Density Index for two different types of alloys (EN AB-43400 and EN AB-46000), at specific locations, at different stages in the process and with different degassing methods. Density Index is a measure for measuring and comparing the samples with respect to the internal porosity. As the air contains moisture, along with the melt temperature, the solubility of hydrogen in the melt is affected.

     The project work has focused on reducing the hydrogen content and to improve the strength of the final product.

    Maintenance has been treated as a cost-center although it has obviousdirect impact on company production, delivery on time, product quality andconsequently company business. In this paper we develop and test a new system(EcoCon) for monitoring and assessing the economic impact of maintenance on aproduction process. EcoCon is tested using real industrial data collected over3 years. The main findings are that by using EcoCon it is possible to assessmaintenance economic impact on a production process. Also, EcoCon providesdata for analyzing causes behind deviations in maintenance and production performance.It can be applied on companies of similar production process/machine. But,in some cases, the system demands marginal accommodation to suit the differencesin the maintenance economic related factors among companies. EcoCon providesproduction and maintenance mangers reliable overview of maintenance importancethrough monitoring maintenance economic impact by linking technical productionperformance, e.g. downtime, to economic savings/losses generated due to maintenanceperformance and other activities.

    Abstract [en]

    Traditionally, procurement of maintenance has been based on fixed price on defined work. These types of contract forms can lead to negotiations on everything not included in the price, which may result in delays and a sense of distrust when all parties primarily look after themselves. Recently, forms for cooperation based on mutual trust and fairness for all parties have been developed; partnering. Partnering is characterized by common objectives and project organization, and risk analysis. The project is created and operated in cooperation with customers, contractors, suppliers and consultants. Transparency is a cornerstone of partnering and openness is what mainly differentiates partnering from traditional contractor projects. The Swedish railway uses traditional and very detailed contracting principles. This leads to several problems, such as lack of information and knowledge transfer between parties and life cycle phases, and no incentives for quality and productivity improvements. Is applying the concept of partnering for railway maintenance a solution to these problems? If so, why is the concept not already commonly applied and what are the barriers? This paper introduces the concept of partnering and reviews current research within the area. Thereafter, the possibilities in using partnering-based maintenance in Swedish railway are discussed.

    Up until 2001 the operation and maintenance of Swedish railway, both the railway infrastructure and the rolling stock, was basically the responsibility of Statens Järnvägar. At this year the operation and maintenance of the Swedish railway was deregulated and as a result the number of actors increased dramatically. Also, during the period from 1990 to 2012 there was an increase in the railway transports of 42% in train-kilometres. This put great demands on the railway infrastructure operations and service, and indications were seen that the infrastructure was deteriorating leading to delivery quality problems. In order to solve the situation several governmental investigations were initiated. In a governmental report the situation of the railway maintenance is described as problematic due to several technical as well as organisational factors, of which the lack of competition is seen as the most important. Despite several investigations, the desired delivery quality is still not reached. This paper focuses on the Swedish railway infrastructure and describes the background and current state of the Swedish railway service management by utilising a business ecosystem perspective, which lets you capture the complexity and dynamics of the surroundings. By applying this perspective, looking outside the traditional framework of suppliers and customers, important areas in need of investigation or development can be singled out.  As a part of the result, the Swedish railway infrastructure industry is modelled as an ecosystem, and directions for future development is pointed out.

    Svetsning är idag den mest använda sammanfogningsmetoden för metaller, och pågrund av metodens relativt enkla utförande och höga produktivitet är MIG/MAG-svetsning idag den mest använda svetsmetoden industriellt i hela världen. En viktig del av svetsutrustningen till MIG/MAG är svetspistolen. Strömöverföringen från pistol till tillsatsmaterial sker genom en komponent som kallas kontaktrör. Kontaktröret är traditionellt tillverkat av koppar.

    Målet med detta examensarbete är att fastställa huruvida det nya materialet i ett kontaktrör påverkar grundmaterialet och svetsgodset negativt vid svetsning.

    Slutsatsen som drogs var att det nya materialet i kontaktröret inte har en negativ påverkan på grundmaterialet eller svetsgodset vid svetsning. Produkten kaneventuellt leda till stora ekonomiska och ekologiska vinster för svetsindustrin i framtiden.

    En hållbar tillväxt, hög konkurrenskraft och goda möjligheter att anställa nytt folk kan nås om företag blir bättre på att utveckla sig själva och bygga samordnade produktionssystem, vilket har blivit av allt större vikt.

    Fallstudien är utförd på företaget LKM AB, som producerar olika kablar och kablagemonteringar. Huvudsyftet med fallstudien är att utreda hur kundanpassningen påverkar den interna effektiviseringen av ett produktionsflöde i en tillverkande verksamhet.

    En nulägesanalys utfördes för att etablera nuläget och analysera den, fokus låg därefter på packningsoperationen, vilket är operationen närmast kundönskemålen. Författarna påbörjade därefter att arbeta med Kata genom att sätta upp ett måltillstånd, detta visar vart företaget är idag och vart de vill vara inom cirka en månads tid. Genom att arbeta med ett effektivt experimenteringsverktyg kallat PDCA-uppföljningsblankett, måltillståndet var uppnått inom tidsperioden och resultatet blev följande:

    - Leveransen gick på en pall istället för fyra stycken.

    - Packningstiden reducerades med 60 %.

    - Kontrolltiden hos kunden reducerades med 30-40 %.

    Detta visar att metoden och arbetssättet är mycket effektivt.

    This scientific work is dedicated to the study of the impact of vibrations on the Volvo A60 articulated hauler’s hydraulic tank taking fluid-structure interaction into account.

    In this work, a theoretical background is presented in order to give the reader a basic awareness of the given problem together with a detailed description of the methods used during the examination of the above mentioned hydraulic tank.

    To perform an analysis of the finite-element model, ANSYS software was used while ANSA and META were used as the pre- and post-processor. Matlab was used in order to compare the obtained data.

    As a result of the analysis, this work provides a simplified and yet accurate model and a description of some of the minor problems present in the original Volvo CE model. In order to solve those issues, solutions are proposed.

The conceptual design was made after that and the finally concept was selected. The embodiment design was based on the requirements from the company and the manufacturing cost was calculated in this step. An analytical prototyping was made to show the optimized product and finally the design was verified, as well.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study is to achieve an understanding of how a CE- marking process is conducted and to identify the relevant factors that must be considered in such a process. We have conducted our study at Lövhults Svets & Smide AB (Lövhults) in Skruv, Småland Sweden, which are manufacturing brackets for small covering constructions.

    To understand how a CE-marking process is conducted several documents and provisions have been reviewed to achieve a basic understanding and insight of the subject. It thus led to that guideline ETAG 015 were studied and the factors to be considered in the CE-marking of brackets were identified. Together with Jan-Åke Johansson at Lövhults we agreed on four different brackets to investigate for a potential CE-marking. When these brackets had been selected a thorough investigation of these products was conducted, which then were compared with the provisions contained within ETAG 015. It states factors regarding the mechanical resistance, fire safety, environment, health, safety and usefulness that are to be considered. These factors should be specified and given a value / explanation which can be determined by European standards, calculation, calculation and testing, or only through testing. These calculations and tests shall be performed by the company or by a notified body.

    For a CE-marking to be possible to conduct it is mandatory to examine the manufacturing process of the products. Lövhults products are made of steel (Ymagine D1), which is processed in a punching machine, a bending machine, and finally a welding machine. After this processing, the products are sent for galvanizing and after which they are delivered back to Lövhults for dispatch to the customer. A production control procedure must be established and documented to ensure the quality of the manufactured products. The production control that we propose is simple in nature and is based on visual inspection of incoming materials, visual inspection of the work performed at each processing station and finally a visual check of incoming galvanized products. The manufacturing control needs to be approved by a notified body before it can be considered valid.

    The result of this study is that several correcting actions must be performed and that contact must be taken with a notified body to ensure that Lövhults products meet all the requirements that are demanded and thereby enable the products to receive a CE-marking.

    We have a discussion at the end of the report, resulting in the final conclusions and recommendations on whether the CE marking of Lövhults products is something that is worth investing in or not.

    Abstract [en]

    Dowel-type steel to timber connections are commonly used in timber structure. The load carrying capacity and the stress distribution within the connection area are complicated and the failure behavior of a connection depends on many parameters.

    The main purpose of this thesis was to verify, using the data obtained from previous experiments, the conventional design method of European Code 5(EC5) (hand calculation) for dowel type joints subjected to pure bending moment and other alternative design methods based on the finite element method (FEM) including the use of the mean stress approach and the extended finite element method (XFEM).

    Finite element models were created in the software ABAQUS. The models were then used to predict the load bearing capacity and compare this to the experimental results. In addition parametric studies were performed with modifications of material properties and other parameters. The closest prediction in relation to the test results was obtained using XFEM where the predicted capacity was 3.82% larger than the experimental result.

    An extension of the mean stress method going from a 2D-formulation to a 3D-formulation was verified as well.

    A general conclusion drawn from this work is that the numerical modelling approaches used should also be suitable for application to complex connections and situations involving other loading situations than pure tension.

    Polyethylene is a widely-used material in package industries. The fracture behavior of this material has not been studied in the plastic region in many years. In this thesis work, the J-Integral which is one material property used to represent the plastic material strength is calculated through the numerical analysis. To build a correct numerical model, the material behavior is summarized from previous uniaxial tensile test. The result from the fracture experiment for variable initial crack length is used to validate the reliability of the numerical model. The numerical analysis is done by the software ABAQUS which has the function to get the value of J-Integral directly. The final result contains the comparison between experiments and numerical analysis and the value of J-Integral at the crack initiation.

    Abstract [en]

    Recently, a lot of work has been made on modeling, testing and calibrating Ampair 600W wind turbine blades, owing to the use of that turbine as a test bed structure for the Dynamic Substructuring Focus Group within the Society of Experimental Mechanics. In Sweden alone, more than 20 blades have been tested for dynamical properties, geometrical differences and material properties as was presented in several papers at IMAC XXXI. The quantity of blades, originating from different manufacturing batches, makes them ideal for investigations of component variability.

    In this paper, measurement variability predominantly stemming from the difference between individual blades is propagated backwards to model parameters, using model calibration techniques, in an effort to quantify their uncertainties. The coupling between spread in structural properties such as mass, center of gravity together with blade twist angles and spread in the resulting blade dynamics is shown.

    At excavations of quarries, construction sites or in mining, etc. articulated haulers are commonly used for the transportation of material. Thus, articulated haulers are exposed to a diversity of different worksites that all will load them differently. With a continuously growing market and added exhaust emission regulations, the machines need to be continuously optimized to meet durability and weight (fuel efficiency) requirements. In the structural design of any given component in an articulated hauler, the assumed loads used will reflect on its design. However, it is rarely the case that the loads used in the design procedure strictly represents the dynamic loads a hauler will be subjected to. As a result, the machines are generally oversized. To address the issue of oversized components, a statistical approach for the estimation of their fatigue life may be utilized. With the aid of power spectral density estimates of a components dynamic loads in combination with a finite element model of the component its vibration response in terms of power spectral densities may be estimated. Based on the vibration response spectra the component's fatigue life may be estimated assuming that the components dynamic loads may be considered as weakly stationary stochastic processes. To investigate if the dynamic loads used for fatigue life estimation may be considered as weakly stationary stochastic processes; stationarity tests have been carried out as well as estimates of the kurtosis and the mean square value as a function of time have been produced. The results indicate that the dynamic loads may not be considered as weakly stationary stochastic processes. Furthermore, by segmenting the dynamic load time series into segments that can be considered as weakly stationary the estimated fatigue life seems to decrease slightly if compared to the case when assuming that the dynamic loads are weakly stationary.

    Eftersom att behovet av livs- och läkemedel ökar måste produktionsmaskinerna som producerar dessa varor bli allt mer effektiva. Målet med examensarbetet var att konstruera ett koncept som roterar och lyfter tuber i en tubfyllningsmaskin och samtidigt minskar resursförbrukningen och platsanvändningen i maskinen. Syftet var att få en djupare förståelse för hur detta kunde genomföras på ett driftsäkert sätt. Genom att samla in relevant teori och genomföra en produktutvecklingsprocess togs ett slutgiltigt koncept fram. Detta koncept analyserades och testades. Det resulterade i ett koncept som kombinerade lyft och rotation av en tub på ett driftsäkert sätt och samtidigt använde mindre resurser och plats än den nuvarande lösningen.

    Industri 4.0 är idag ett omtalat koncept inom industrin som innebär att fabriker ska digitaliseras och automatiseras för att kunna uppnå effektiva produktionsfördelar. Intern transport är ett av områdena som går att automatisera där man kan ersätta de traditionella truckarna med förarlösa truckar, så kallade Automated Guided Vehicles.

    Syftet med arbetet var att få en förståelse för vilka faktorer som är viktiga vid implementering av självkörande truckar. För att uppnå syftet använde studien sig av följande frågeställning:

    • Vilka viktiga faktorer behöver man ta hänsyn till vid implementering av självkörande truckar?

    Abstract [en]

    The industrialization of wooden house building processes from traditional on-site production to off-site prefabrication is challenging, concerning the possibility of effective handling of numerous product variants, where each house is more or less unique. To obtain high productivity in the production, a well-balanced flow with minimization of waste is of great importance. In Sweden, many off-site house producers are in the starting phases of introducing advanced automation technologies in their production processes and the need for a more detailed process control therefore increases. In previous studies, the installation of windows has been identified as a demanding step in the prefabrication process, since it often creates a bottleneck i.e. the most overloaded part of process (Slack et al., 2016) and thus negatively affects the cycle-time and a balanced production flow.This study aims to understand, how the effectiveness of windows installations could be improved. By using a multiple case-study methodology, processes of several companies are compared and discussed. Further, suggestions for improvements are made for one case company. The results show that a replacement of the windows installation could (a) shorten the cycle-time of one wall by more than 10 %, (b) reduce the queueing time for the entire wall assembly process by more than 48 % and consequently (c) help to create a more balanced production flow.

    During the last years the interest in multi-storey timber buildings has increased and several medium-to-high-rise buildings with light-weight timber structures have been designed and built. Examples of such are the 8-storey building “Limnologen” in Växjö, Sweden, the 9-storey “Stadthouse” in London, UK and the 14-storey building “Treet” in Bergen, Norway. The structures are all light-weight and flexible timber structures which raise questions regarding wind induced vibrations. This paper will present a finite element-model of a 22 storey building with a glulam-CLT structure. The model will be used to study the effect of different structural properties such as damping, mass and stiffness on the peak acceleration and will be compared to the ISO 10137 vibration criteria for human comfort. The results show that it is crucial to take wind-induced vibrations into account in the design of tall timber buildings.

    Abstract [en]

    Due to devastating fires in several Swedish cities between 1838 and 1843, timber was not allowed to be used any more in bearing constructions for buildings with more than two floors. In 1994, the building code was changed towards functional requirements and timber could be used again in multi storey applications. However, this 150 year lasting prohibition let to the fact that building with timber in such applications barely developed. The market and the industry were used to steel and concrete, and mostly still are. Therefore, a strategy for more wood in construction was launched and implemented by the Swedish government in 2004, a.o. aiming at increasing the competition of building materials and -techniques. Here, prefabrication in an industrialized way was highlighted. Additionally, more Swedish wood should be processed domestically to save and provide jobs, but also to meet environmental concerns about reducing the CO2 footprint (Schauerte 2009).

    Sverige är ett stort och glesbefolkat land med många vägar, vilket leder till att en stor del är grusvägar. Jämfört med asfalterade vägar kräver grusvägar mer frekvent underhåll. Detta underhåll sker vanligtvis med en väghyvel. Syftet och målet med detta examensarbete är att utveckla en ramkonstruktion för en mobil grusåtervinningsmaskin som ska dras bakom en väghyvel. Arbetet inleds med en produktutvecklingsprocess som genererar fyra delkoncept. Vidare väljs lämpligt material och ytbehandling för ramkonstruktionen. Slutligen utförs dimensionering av delkoncepten.

    I resultatet presenteras en konstruktion bestående av hjulupphängning, ramkonstruktion, dragstång och en höjdjusterbar draganordning. Slutsatsen av arbetet är att konstruktionen som presenteras i resultatet uppfyller de mål som fastställts.

    Abstract [en]

    In this work, the feasibility to perform substructuring technique with experimental data is demonstrated. This investigation examines two structures with different additional mass‑loads, i.e. transmission simulators (TSs). The two structures are a single blade and the hub together with two blades from an Ampair 600 wind turbine. Simulation data from finite element models of the TSs are numerically decoupled from each of the two structures. The resulting two structures are coupled to each other. The calculations are made exclusively in the frequency domain.

    A comparison between the predicted behavior from this assembled structure and measurements on the full hub with all three blades is carried out. The result is discouraging for the implemented method. It shows major problems, even though the measurements were performed in a laboratory environment.

    The purpose of this work is to evaluate how a docking station can be more future proof, environmentally friendly and satisfy the customers’ needs more. The docking station in focus of this project is owned by LVI, and used with one of their cameras MagniLink S. When comparing the results of the new docking station and the current docking station, the new docking station is more future proof, environmentally friendly and satisfies the customers’ needs more. In the end it is established that following steps should be followed during the development of a docking station:

    -          Make sure that the cables are reliably fastened into the docking station and that the connectors can handle the docking force.

    -          Design to use more material with lower environmental impact and ensure that the material fulfils the product requirements and objectives. Use as small amount of material as possible.

    -          Prioritize the customers’ expressed and unexpressed needs as one of the highest priorities during the development process.

    Abstract [en]

    The VMS is a robot milking system of DeLaval International AB. It has been observed that a layer of residue remains on the camera lens after cleaning. The camera is used to locate the teat and apply the milking cups. Even though after automatically cleaning with a sponge, it is very difficult to remove this layer. This study has been conducted to find out if a new cleaning station utilizing steam can have better cleaning results concerning the mentioned problem. A test setup was built to perform several tests. The boiler is capable to supply steady steam with the same pressure and temperature every milking cycle, which is approximately 8 minutes. Tests further on showed that the inside camera housing temperature not exceed 35°C, which remains under the required limit of 50°C. After the steam has cleaned the lens compressed blows and cools the remaining droplets left behind. The comparison between the sponge and the steam cleaning method confirms that the steam cleaning method is able to remove the contaminations more sufficient than the sponge. One of the contaminations is milk which is the worst kind. Studies showed that milk tends to denaturize when heated above 60°C. This could form a layer of burned proteins on the lens.

    Inom fordonsindustrin arbetas det kontinuerligt med att utveckla mer miljövänliga och ekonomiska produkter. Genom att undersöka material och förbättra utmattningshållfastigheten på befintliga material kan växellådor bli mer kompakta, ekonomiska och starkare samtliga parter. Syftet och målet med detta arbete är att få en generell förståelse för icke-metalliska inneslutningar och hur de påverkar ett materials utmattningshållfasthet, samt att ge förslag på förbättringar till den nuvarande materialspecifikationen. Genom tester på ultraljud kan en klar skillnad mellan storleken på defekter ses mellan stål tillverkade med olika processer. Genom undersökande av tidigare utförda tester på roterande böj kan en ökning av utmattningshållfastigheten på 37.5% ses mellan ett götgjutet stål och ett stränggjutet. Vid studerande av internationella och Europeiska standarder kan korrigeringar till den nuvarande materialspecifikationen föreslås.

    Konkurrensen hårdnar och utvecklingstakten inom industrin går allt fortare, detta leder företagen till nya utmaningar. Nya utmaningar är svåra att hantera speciellt för små- och medelstora företag, SMF eftersom de inte besitter samma kunskap och ekonomiska förutsättningar som stora företag. Detta projektet syftar att förbättra konkurrensfaktorn i SMF genom att tillämpa statistisk processtyrning och därmed höja deras kvalitet. För uppnå syftet har målet varit att ta fram ett hållbart arbetssätt för statistisk processtyrning för produktion i små serier.

    En fallstudie enligt DMAIC som är Sex Sigmas primära arbetsgång har använts för att skapa erfarenhet om variation och finna ett arbetssätt. Studien fastställer att en lyckad implementation av statistisk processtyrning har en cyklisk metodik som utgår från ledning, samarbete, teknik och statistik. De statistiska aspekterna i arbetssättet redogörs i ett flödesschema.

    Syftet med denna rapport var att undersöka varför en offsetpress stänker färg under produktionen av spelkuponger. Frågeställningen var följande;

    Vad är orsaken till att en arbetande offsetpress stänker färg från valsar och cylindrar och hur kan det eventuellt förhindras?

    Att trycka tryck med offsetpressar är det vanligaste sättet att trycka tidningar, magasin, spelkuponger m.m. En offsetpress är uppbyggd av fukt- och färgvalsar, cylindrar och en tryckplåt. Cylindrarna består av en plåtcylinder, en gummicylinder och en tryckcylinder. Det önskade motivet överförs via gummiduken till pappret med hjälp av tryckcylindern.

    En maskinell förändring utförd av personer utan erfarenhet för att hindra färgstänket leder till en obrukbar maskin på grund av delarnas relation till varandra. Det är dock viktigt att kontrollera att maskinen är rätt inställd. Genom forskning och samling av information från vetenskapliga artiklar och intervjuer konstaterades det att balansen mellan färg och fukt är instabil vilket leder till färgstänkning. Arbetsmiljöverket har krävt att färgen till offsetpressar byts ut mot ett vattenlösligt alternativ och rekommenderat att mängden ISO propanol i processen sänks. Fuktvattnet behöver vara inom ett visst intervall när det gäller pH-värde och hårdhetsgrader för att synkronisera bäst med färgen.

    Då pH-värdena i fuktvattnet var inom det lämpliga intervallet visade en komplexometrisk titrering att fuktvattnet hade för höga värden av kalciumoxid. Kalciumoxiderna frigjordes från fyllmedlet i pappret som användes under mätningen. Detta bekräftade även att hårdheten i maskinens fuktvatten ökar då den under hela tryckprocessen kommer i kontakt med pappret. För höga värden av kalciumoxid leder till att systemet tar upp salter som sätter sig på valsarna. Valsarna absorberar i sin tur upp mer vatten än beräknat och överemulgeras med färgen. Denna över emulgering är den främsta anledningen till färg-stänket.

    En ökning på ISO propanolen i fuktvattnet från 7 % till 11 % leder till att fuktvatten matningen kan sänkas med ca 16 %. Det leder i sin tur till mindre fukt i systemet och en bättre balans mellan färg och fukt. För att motarbeta en ständig ökning av hårdheten i fuktvattnet rekommenderas att oftare och noggrant rengöra fuktsystemet samt byta ut delar där salter har satt sig. En eventuell förändring för att få en bättre färg och fuktbalans är att byta till en intensivare färg och därmed kan färgmatningen sänkas.

    För att Swepart Transmission AB ska fortsätta att hålla en hög standard på produkter som levereras till kunder, ska monteringslinan för Power Take-Off säkras. Budgeten som är avsatt till att kvalitetssäkra monteringslinan är 500 000 kr. Pick-to-Light och Pick-to-Voice är system som kan användas för att kvalitetssäkra monteringen av Power Take-Off. Systemen jämfördes med systemet med monteringskort som används i nuläget. Det mest lämpliga att införa har visat sig vara Pick-to-Light.

    I samband med införandet av detta system måste utredningar göras för vilka komponenter som behöver sensorer och vilka som kan säkras på andra sätt. Detta arbete innefattar också att utreda placeringen av komponenter som är optimalt för monteringen.

    Organisationer med komplexa projekt som sträcker sig över ett flertal år finner svårigheter att förhålla sig till projektens fördefinierade parametrar tid, kostnad och omfattning. Skenande kostnader och förseningar är vanligt förekommande i dessa typer av projekt, då projekten omfattar ett samspel av ett flertal aktiviteter och där projektets omfattning ofta förändras.

    Det finns metoder som verksamheter kan tillämpa för att kontrollera ovannämnda parametrar och i ett tidigt skede kunna identifiera när någon av parametrar tenderar att överskridas. En metod som styrker prestationsmätningar är Earned Value Mangament, EVM. Syftet med studien var att identifiera vart organisationer brister gentemot branschstandarden inom EVM, ANSI/EIA-748. Standarden innehåller viktiga steg för att kunna utföra en korrekt prestationsmätning tillsammans med teorin från Earned Value Management.

    Resultat studien presentera indikerar på att organisationer måste skapa tydliga riktlinjer hur ANSI/EIA-748 skall tillämpas. Till exempel att alla bryter ner arbetet och fördelar sina budgetar på samma sätt. Studiens resultat antyder också att Rolling Wave är ett lämpligt verktyg för komplexa och långa projekt. Av den anledningen att projektledare inte planerar för mycket i onödan eftersom projektets omfattning ständigt förändras.

    Abstract [en]

    Investments in information technology are hard to assess due to various reasons, such as lack of easy-to-use methods and appropriate input data. The aim of the paper is to reduce the uncertainty of investment assessments and investment follow up. This is done by addressing the problem with lack of quantified data. A simple method is proposed for transferring intangible and qualitative data into tangible and quantifiable data. The method is a step by step process from identify-ing benefits to finding appropriate values for estimating the magnitude of the ben-efits, and to further quantify the benefits using available data. The values could thereafter be used in traditional economic investment assessment models such as the payback period or net present value method. The proposed method is illustrat-ed using an investment in a computerised maintenance management system as an example.
