    Distribution Channel Structure and Integration: Contingency variables in the sawmill industry2010In: / [ed] Arlbjörn, 2010Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Purpose; The purpose of this paper is to identify and characterize structures and integration levels of distribution channels in the sawmill industry, as well as to discuss these characteristics and their association with different contingency variables.

    Design / methodology / approach; Multiple case study

    Findings: There is a variety of distribution channel structures and levels of integration in the sawmill industry: one extreme is small, one-unit firms delivering ex-works to export agents with unintegrated distribution channel processes and the other extreme is large, multi-unit firms with network flow structures delivering from their own stock on a market to clients with integrated distribution channel processes By studying these contingency variables, a pattern of sawmill categories emerges; the first category, in which production is focused, are the small single sawmills (with a cost leadership or focus strategy) which aim to deliver their products to independent actors ex-works; the sawmills which comply to this category do not consider logistics or IT as important, neither do they take integration into consideration. The second category consists of larger multi-unit sawmills with a downstream focus, which strive to integrate and control the distribution channel (in the most extreme cases acquire strategic actors) in order to achieve stable presence on strategic markets. Sawmills included in this category regard logistics and IT as important.

    Research limitations / implications;

    This research is an exploratory pre-study based on five case studies implicating a limited possibility to draw general conclusions.

    Practical implications:

    This paper illustrates situations in which the distribution channel requires to be focused to higher degree which is important for strategic decisions for the actors in the industry.

    What is original/value of paper:

    This paper illustrates the variety of channel structures and integration levels within a single industry, and connects the variation with a number of contingency variables.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose; The purpose of this study is to identify distribution channel research needs given the variety of distribution channel challenges among Swedish sawmill companies.

    Design / methodology / approach; Explorative case study research

    Findings: The paper proposes a typology of sawmill distribution channel challenges, as well as aligns research needs with distribution channel type. The typology is based on i) number of sawmill units within the firm, in combination with ii) distribution channel heterogeneity. Significant management decisions and research needs are identified for the different types.

    Research limitations / implications; This research makes tentative statements regarding typology of sawmill distribution channel challenges and potential research needs in the Swedish sawmill industry with regards to the respective typology. However, further research is needed in order to validate these results.

    What is original/value of paper: This paper focus on the sawmill industry distribution channels, which is a neglected but important area for sawmill’s competitive advantage. The paper also contributes to research by applying contingency theory and typology as an approach to deal with the variety of sawmills distribution channel challenges.

    Abstract [en]

    In this study we explore the effects of end-use energy efficiency measures on different district heat production systems with combined heat and power (CHP) plants for base load production and heat-only boilers for peak and medium load productions. We model four minimum cost district heat production systems based on four environmental taxation scenarios, plus a reference district heat system used in Östersund, Sweden. We analyze the primary energy use and the cost of district heat production for each system. We then analyze the primary energy implications of end-use energy efficiency measures applied to a case-study apartment building, taking into account the reduced district heat demand, reduced cogenerated electricity and increased electricity use due to ventilation heat recovery. We find that district heat production cost in optimally-designed production systems is not sensitive to environmental taxation. The primary energy savings of end-use energy efficiency measures depend on the characteristics of the district heat production system and the type of end-use energy efficiency measures. Energy efficiency measures that reduce more of peak load than base load production give higher primary energy savings, because the primary energy efficiency is higher for CHP plants than for boilers. This study shows the importance of analyzing both the demand and supply sides as well as their interaction in order to minimize the primary energy use of district heated buildings.

    Abstract [en]

    The operation of a district heating system depends on the heat load demand, which varies throughout the year. In this paper, we analyze the coproduction of district heat and electricity or biomotor fuels. We demonstrate how three different taxation scenarios and two crude oil price levels influence the selection of production units to minimize the district heat production cost and calculate the resulting primary energy use. Our analysis is based on the annual measured heat load of a district heating system. The minimum-cost district heat production system comprises different production units that meet the district heat demand and simultaneously minimize the district heat production cost. First, we optimize the cost of a district heat production system based on the cogeneration of electricity and heat with and without biomass integrated gasification combined-cycle technology. We considered cogenerated electricity as a byproduct with the value of that produced by a condensing power plant. Next, we integrate and optimize different biomotor fuel production units into the district heat production system by considering biomotor fuels as byproducts that can substitute for fossil motor fuels. We demonstrate that in district heating systems, the strengthening of environmental taxation reduces the dependence on fossil fuels. However, increases in environmental taxation and the crude oil price do not necessarily influence the production cost of district heat as long as biomass price is not driven by policy measures. Biomotor fuel production in a district heating system is typically not cost-efficient. The biomotor fuels produced from the district heating system have to compete with those from standalone biomotor fuel plants and also with its fossil-based counterparts. This is also true for high oil prices. A carbon tax on fossil CO2 emissions based on social cost damage will increase the competitiveness of biomass-based combined heat and power plants, especially for BIGCC technology with its high electricity-to-heat ratio.

    Abstract [en]

    This diploma work leans on the socio-cultural perspective on education, represented by, among others, Vygotskij. The purpose of this work is to investigate whether seminars could work as a reliable alternative to written exams and to investigate if seminars as a method could enhance interest in different parts of natural sciences, in particular Biology.

     

    The methods used in this study were survey and interviews. The study was carried out in three major parts: seminars were performed in secondary school with children aged 14; a survey regarding these seminars was held and finally, group interviews, one with teachers and one with pupils, were conducted. The interviews focused on the perception of the seminars as a method of learning and evaluation.

     

    The results show that there may be a connection between seminars and an increased interest in specific topics within the field of Biology. However, this connection is so far only significantly detectable for the specific topic of these seminars and can as of now not be stretched to include Natural sciences, or even Biology. Therefore there is room for further investigations to confirm this hypothesis. The results also show that seminars are appreciated among teachers and a large number of students and that both these groups see seminars as a complement to other more traditional forms of teaching and written examinations.

    Abstract [en]

    Theorists have shown that continuous improvements of the organization are a requirement in today’s global market. The nature of the required improvements can vary from business to business. This study is conducted within a business where the marked demand is higher than the average production rate of the product. Improvements in this case will be referred to in-crease the production rate by assessing the bottleneck section of the plant. In order to increase the production rate, the unplanned stoppages of the bottleneck section needs to be reduced. By reducing the unplanned stoppages of the bottleneck section the profitability of the business will increase, since the bottleneck section is regulating the output of the plant. The angle from which the availability will be increased is through maintenance. A model is developed and implementation example is presented in order to show the increase in the availability of the bottleneck section. The model will provide a systematic approach to define market demand, bottlenecks, severity of assets, criticality of failures and a maintenance decision making pro-cess regarding the profitability of maintenance investments. The result of the model is in-creased availability of the bottleneck section, leading to a higher profit. The study is conduct-ed on Cementa AB, owned by Heidelberg Cement Group.

    Abstract [en]

    Single family houses represent the biggest potential for energy savings within residential buildingsin the Nordic countries. In earlier research project [1] it highlighted that there is a missing linkbetween the single family house owner and various segregated offers of single solutions forrenovation and/or energy efficiency installations. In the two international research projectsSuccessFamiles and One Stop Shop, establishment of new business models as pilots for bridgingthis gap are now being monitored.Two of the pilots as “one stop shops”, a retailer chain in Finland and a daughter company of aNorwegian manufacturer of insulation, are described and discussed.A key issue for any business model which offers an integrated service from analysis of the houseand recommendations for measures is the trustworthiness of the supplier.As a holistic energy efficient renovation project is a “new” and unknown service to single familyhouse owner and at same time a costly investment, it is important for the suppliers to findadequate ways of communicating through each phase of the buying process. There are variouschallenges in each of the phases which have to be solved differently.

    I detta arbete har undersökts hur egenkontroller används i ett medelstort svenskt byggföretag. Arbetet har visat att egenkontrollerna på byggarbetsplatser inte används som de är tänkta att användas. Egenkontrollerna har haft en ganska undanskymd tillvaro på arbetsplatserna hittills. Med den nya Plan- och bygglagen kommer de att få en betydligt mer framträdande roll. 

    Hur skall man hantera egenkontrollerna så att personalen genomför dem på rätt sätt – och genomför dem överhuvud taget? Undersökningen har visat att bristen på information är en viktig faktor för oviljan mot att fylla i egenkontrollerna. Undersökningen visar också att intresse finns för att förbättra utnyttjandet av egenkontroller, men de kollektivanställda för fram utbildning och upplysning som viktiga pusselbitar som saknas idag.

    Okunskapen som finns på det undersökta företaget borde åtgärdas fortast möjligast. Ledningen har bra argument för varför man skall utnyttja egenkontrollerna bättre, men om dessa argument inte förs fram till resten av personalen blir det svårt att motivera alla att delta. Egenkontrollerna upplevs ofta som något negativt, som en slags kontroll på hantverkarens kunskaper. Vissa hantverkare verkar dessutom tro att de blir personligt ansvariga för det som de tillverkat, fast det alltid är företaget som har det yttersta ansvaret för det man producerar.

    3 % av befolkningen har så stora koncentrationssvårigheter eller stunder med förlorad kontroll att det benämns som en funktionsnedsättning – ADHD. I dagens skola är det allt vanligare med elever som har problematik och olika diagnoser. Om en elev på grund av t.ex. ADHD har svårigheter förväntas samhället ställa upp med extra insatser. Vi vill med denna rapport undersöka vad som händer efter att en elev med ADHD får sin diagnos och om den gör skillnad. Flickors ADHD upptäcks senare än pojkars. Vi har valt att fördjupa oss gällande kvinnliga elever med diagnosen ADHD och vår undersökning har utförts på en mindre skola. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur ett antal kvinnliga elever med ADHD på gymnasieskolan uppfattar sin skolsituation, om de anser att de får den hjälp som krävs. För att få en mer objektiv bild har vi även intervjuat deras lärare och skolsköterska.

    Abstract [en]

    Serpula lacrymans infestation has become an increasingly common problem, and is usually perceived as a tip of an iceberg.

    During the 21st century there has been a perceived increase of damage caused by serpula lacrymans, at AB Mats Fransson Saneringstjänst – Anticimex in the county of Kronoberg. A similar increase has also been noted by employees at the offices in Kalmar, Karlstad, Piteå, Stockholm, Malmö, Söderhamn, Halmstad and Visby.

    The methods used to collect data for the project has been interviews with a number, for the project, relevant key persons, such as analysis engineers at Trygghansa and Anticimex, as well as personnel at the botanical institution at Gothenburg University and the Botaniska Analysgruppen in Gothenburg, further statistics from SMHI and analyses of reported instances of infestations have been used.

    The majority of the people interviewed believe that the increase is caused by renovations of old houses, higher precipitation during the summer months, as well as a moister climate and warmer winters. The latter can also be gleaned from statistics from SMHI concerning temperature, precipitation, and relative humidity.

    Analysed damage reports show that the most common cause for the infestation is ground moisture, even when combined wooden materials.

    Older houses that where built around 1900 are the ones most frequently infested with serpula lacrymans. The part of the building most frequently infested is the foundation, where cellars and suspended foundation are the most common types to be infested. An infestation is usually detected during the months of August and September.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis is the closure of the Master program in Mechanical Engineering at Linnaeus University in Växjö. The work has been done at Volvo Construction Equipment in Braås, where they develop and manufacture Articulated Haulers. A comparative analysis was performed on the front frame of an Articulated Haulers. Two frames were investigated, the existing A35/40 frame and a prototype frame of a new Hauler.The purpose of the thesis is to obtain a comparative vibration analysis of the frames, in order to know how the vibrations are transmitted from the engine mounts to the cabin piles through the frames to find out weaknesses and critical points of the frame.The analysis was done on finite element models in ANSYS by applying the same load cases and boundary conditions to both frames. The frequency responses were investigated in all relevant points. Further post-processing analysis was performed in MATLAB, such that results are presented in frequency bands.The prototype frame has better performance in general, compared to existing A35/40 except for a few frequency regions. However, the recommendation is to reinforce the front section of the new front frame. Another suggestion is to optimize the design of each cabin pile.

    Genom en studie på Elfversons & Co AB tar det här examensarbetet upp hur och varför klingslag uppstår på deras träkorkar. Undersökningen har gjorts med en höghastighetskamera för att sakta ner hela förloppet så att det mänskliga ögat kan se vad det är som egentligen händer i och med att maskinen producerar ca 1 kork per sekund.Maskinerna som används för att producera korkarna är specialdesignade och unika. Företaget har tillverkat träkorkar sedan 1949. Syftet med det här arbetet var att undersöka hur och varför klingslagen uppstår och sedan ge företaget en bättre förståelse för processen. Författarna till detta examensarbete är Arsim Hasani och Adi Trokic.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study is to examine secondary teachers' perceptions of conflict, conflict management, conflict prevention and conflict communication. In addition to theory, I conducted individual interviews and focus group discussions. Most teachers have a common view and argues that a conflict occurs when two or more individuals do not agree on something. Typical conflicts are about grades, teachers' changing professional roles and cellphones in the classroom. In my view, it seems as if the mobile phone has taken over the core conflict that caps created for some 10 years ago, functioning now as the dominant symbol in an ongoing development process providing space for meeting and dealing with conflicts in a constructive way.

    Abstract [en]

    A better understanding of general hindrances to the diffusion of innovations (new products,services, processes, systems, or concepts) in the construction sector may help improve thesustainability of buildings. Adoption of innovations such as multi-storey wood frames may e.g.reduce the primary energy use and carbon dioxide emissions of building construction. This studyuses a web-based questionnaire to collect information on Swedish architects‟ perceptions ofhindrances to the adoption of innovations in building construction in general, and to the adoption ofmulti-storey wood frames in particular. Results show that the most influential hindrances to thegeneral adoption of innovations were perceived as the focus on project costs instead of life-cyclecosts, the economic risk adopting an innovation imply, the focus on traditional engineering models,the construction industry´s tendency to use proven materials and methods, and contractors‟inability to adjust processes. Concrete and steel were perceived as more advantageous than woodwith regards to several aspects influencing the innovativeness of the Swedish construction industry,but wood was perceived as better with regards to opportunities to support local industry. Thearchitects also had more positive perceptions of the performance of concrete and steel in multistoreybuildings, than of wood. While gender and size of company seem to have little influence,perceptions of innovativeness and frame materials vary with age and regions.

    Abstract [sv]

    Oy KWH Mirka Ab tillverkar slipmaterial genom energikrävande termiska härdningsprocesser där processångan produceras genom förbränning av tjockolja. P.g.a. miljökrav från myndigheter och samhälle vill Mirka beräkna miljöbelastningen från sin nuvarande produktion. En del av produktionen har redan konverterats till ny teknik med EB/UV härdning. Utöver detta planeras en förbränningsanläggning för produktionsspill och flis för ångproduktion, samt återvinning av slipkorn från askan. I studien beräknas carbon footprint för tre produkter som produceras konventionellt med processånga. Växthusgasemissionerna delas upp i bidrag från råmaterial, produktionen, transporter och konfektioneringen. Dessutom jämförs hur omställningen till bioenergi, slipkornsåtervinningen och EB/UV-tekniken påverkar växthusgasutsläppen.

    Enligt resultatet är carbon footprint för Gold P120 4,37 kg CO2 eq/100 st 150 mm rondeller. Gold P240 och P500 har 3,25 respektive 3,28 kg CO2 eq/100 st rondeller. Bidraget från råmaterialproduktionen är 68-73 %.

    Vid förbränning av produktionsspill och återvinning av slipkorn minskar emissionerna med 22-25 %. Växthusgasutsläppen i EB/UV processer är bara 16 % av de konventionella processernas utsläpp.

    I detta dokument belyses praktisk färdighet utifrån en teknisk synvinkel. Färdigheten delas upp i mindre beståndsdelar. Dessa beståndsdelar beskrivs var för sig och på vilket sätt de bidrar till samt påverkar den praktiska färdigheten.

     

    Syftet med arbetet är att visa hur den läroprocess som eleven genomgår vid träning av en praktisk disciplin kan tydliggöras och underlättas, genom att utgå från ett tekniskt perspektiv.

     

    Det bör betonas att praktisk färdighet studeras enbart utifrån ett tekniskt perspektiv. Det ger många möjligheter att analysera färdigheten, men synsättet ger även upphov till begränsningar avseende en total förståelse av vad praktisk färdighet är. Nedanstående arbete bör därför ses som en modell eller beskrivning som liksom andra modeller och beskrivningar ger vissa insikter, men som också har begränsningar i sin giltighet.

     

    Resultatet visar att praktisk färdighet kan betraktas och analyseras utifrån sina tekniska beståndsdelar. Därmed kan en optimal praktisk färdighet definieras och utgöra ett mål för den praktiska träningen. Även en redan intränad färdighet, som av någon anledning anses innehålla

    inslag av olämpliga moment, kan tränas om så att den bättre stämmer överens med den optimala färdigheten.

     

    Det tekniska synsättet fungerar väl i ett inledande skede av det praktiska lärandet, där det handlar om att lära sig grundläggande handlag inom den praktiska disciplinen. Huruvida det fungerar även i senare skeden där förtrogenhet utvecklas, har inte undersökts här. Det tekniska perspektivet gör det även möjligt att studera hur olika träningsmetoder påverkar det praktiska lärandet.

    Djurassisterad pedagogik har flera tänkbara tillämpningsområden i skolan. Djur har visat sig inverka positivt på den sociala miljön i skolan. Djur har en positiv effekt på elevernas koncentrationsförmåga, motivation och problemlösningsförmåga. Det har också visat sig att inlärningen gynnas, barn som får lära sig att läsa för en hund lär sig snabbare. Djur är också effektiva hjälpmedel då barn utvecklar sin empati, särskilt för pojkars empatiutveckling. Hundar är vanligast i den djurassisterade pedagogiken, men även hästar kan fylla viktiga funktioner. Hästar är sociala, har lätt för att knyta an till människor och inkludera oss i sin flockstruktur. Eftersom hästar är så lyhörda för människors sinnesstämning så innebär umgänge med hästar att man måste lära sig självbehärskning. Umgänge med hästar bidrar till att ge ungdomar ökat självförtroende, större social kompetens och minskade depressionssymptom. I ett stall blir det också naturligt att interagera med andra personer då det finns vissa saker som man inte kan göra på egen hand. Detta gör att stallet blir en miljö där man tränar på samarbete och hjälpsamhet gentemot andra. I umgänge med hästar får man också lära sig att ta mycket ansvar, samt fatta viktiga och avgörande beslut. Genom detta blir ungdomarna också trygga i sin förmåga att påverka och bidra, vilket i sig stärker självkänslan. Tonårsflickorna Nora och Laila som intervjuats i den här studien har båda hållit på med hästar sedan barnsben. Trots att flickorna är överens om att det jobbigaste med hästintresset är att det tar så mycket tid älskar de sina hästar och sin livsstil, trots att deras sociala liv och övriga fritid blir begränsade. De har funnit former för hur de kan kombinera skolarbete och häst under perioder då det är mycket att göra i skolan. Båda flickorna visar bland annat prov på ansvarskänsla och planeringsförmåga.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis project was carried out at Fläktwoods AB in Växjö who produces large axial fans for different industry applications. The purpose is to increase the knowledge of grease lubricated axial ball bearings through FE analyses.

    The project was executed into five sub steps to determine the influence of one or few parameters at a time. The studied parameters are: mesh density, contact stiffness, load, bearing geometry (i.e. osculation), geometrical nonlinearity and material nonlinearity (i.e. plasticity).

    It is concluded that the mesh density should be selected fine enough to give a smooth result but course enough to give a reasonable calculation time. The contact stiffness has not a major, but a clear, impact on the contact pressure and penetration. Changes of the osculation lead to changes of the contact ellipse shape and applying different load level does not affect the shape of the ellipse but rather the size. When dealing with plasticity the yield strength is the most important factor to take in consideration.

    Vi är två yrkesmän som har arbetat i över 20 år inom våra respektive yrkesområden, d.v.s murare och fordonsmekaniker. Det här är vårt examensarbete där vi valt att undersöka samarbetet mellan skola och yrkesliv. För att i framtiden kunna använda oss av denna studie till att kvalitetsförbättra utbildningen för eleverna.

    Enkäten har vi sammanställt för att vi ska få ut så mycket som möjligt av frågorna samt att den skall ligga till grund för vårt fortsatta samarbete med branschen.

    Enligt de svar vi fått av respondenterna kan vi se att det råder delade meningar om byggutbildningens kvalitet. Men att branschen i huvudsak är nöjd.

    Enkäterna delades ut till 20 byggföretag i Falkenbergs kommun som gymnasieskolan redan har ett samarbete med i någon form.

    Abstract [en]

    Can you state that students of the Business and Administration Programme master a profession after graduation? This goal is formulated in the Upper Secondary School national curriculum Gy11. In order to find out, I have interviewed four people linked to trade and commerce and with good knowledge of the programme. Along the way, several new questions have arisen, for example, what is professionalism? And what does it mean to be a professional? My conclusion is that students can master a profession but that one also has to describe the level of professionalism in order for the target to be meaningful for the students and tutors alike.

    Författarens bakgrund som webbproducent och numera yrkeslärare inom textil och design, låg till grund för ämnesvalet av denna rapport som beskriver dels hur ett webbaserat, pedagogiskt, självinstruerande läromedel kan vara konstruerat för att främja inlärning, dels hur ett kommunikativt och effektivt gränssnitt kan vara utformat. Hur tillämpning av dessa principer påverkar struktur och sidlayout beskrivs och redovisas grafiskt. Kunskapen om konstruktionsprinciper och gränssnitt bygger på litteraturstudier. Läromedlet som är en tänkt följd av rapporten avser Kaledo, ett ritprogram som ingår i textilutbildningar på gymnasium och högskola. Rapporten omfattar därför också en enkätstudie bland alla utbildare i Sverige som besvarat frågor om innehåll, presentationsform och behov. Enligt dessa lärare fanns ett uttalat behov av ett studiematerial och det ansågs också att tillgången till ett webbaserat läromedel hade ökat användningen av programvaran.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this thesis is to develop a model that is going to be used when wanting to cost-effectively improve the productivity of material supply to assembly with consideration to improve ergonomics and quality of semi-finished products. For this approach a case company’s material supply and assembly station have been studied. By utilising interviews, observations, time measurements and the company’s archival records relevant data have been gathered to review the company’s current materials supply method and assembly station in order to compare it with new possible materials supply methods. A cost break down structure was made in order to identify the different cost drivers for the different materials supply methods. This facilitated the time measurements since they pointed out which operations/activities that should be studied. There were two main types of materials supply methods used in the comparisons, which were line stocking and materials kitting. Line stocking was the first alternative since it was their current material supply method. In materials kitting, the new material supply method, there was two sub types examined, kit carriers and kits in pallets. The conclusion was that that the kit carriers made it possible to improve the labour productivity of one assembly station and at the same time being cost-effective. The kit carriers did also improve the ergonomics for the assembler, but on the contrary worsened the ergonomics for the material handlers. It was also perceived by the assemblers and materials handlers that the quality of the materials was improved when using the kit carriers.

    Abstract [en]

    The present study aims at investigating the potential of using mode shape or mode shape curvature (MSC) for detecting defects in wooden beams. It includes modal analysis, Finite Element (FE) modeling and visual scanning. An FE model was created to investigate the effect of defects of different size and location on the mode shape/MSC. The mode shape/MSC showed a good potential to be used for finding defects. An experimental study on 17 boards of Norway spruce, dimensions of 50×150×3900 mm, was conducted using experimental modal analysis. The findings reveal that: (1) the mode shape/MSC studied in the FE-model could be used to locate defects, (2) the method is very sensitive to measurement noise and it requires an accurately measured mode shape, (3) an error analysis shows that it is not possible to achieve the accuracy needed using accelerometers.

    Buildings are pieces of our cultural heritage. To remain this heritage, the buildings history and the information built into them, some of the buildings in Sweden are protected by the Swedish law and internationally by UN convention for world cultural heritage. To get this kind of protection by law the building must be classified as especially notable. This is done from certain defined criterias and this work discusses the documentary part of these criterias worked out by National Heritage board. The study is done as a case study using the protected house Riksmannagården in Alvesta as the case. This work also provides a help for analyzing the documentary part.

    När man kommer ut i arbetslivet efter avslutad utbildning så finns det en del krav och uppfattningar om vad man bör kunna för att fungera väl i valt yrke. Kunskaper som man till största del bör ha fått med sig från den utbildning man gått. Vad det gäller nyutexaminerade kockar som denna undersökning handlar om så är kunskaper i grunder ett exempel på något som man behöver ha för att klara sig bra i inledningen av sitt nya yrkesliv.

    Genom att genomföra en undersökning med hjälp av att intervjua kockar som relativt kort tillbaka klarat sin utbildning samt även med väl yrkeserfarna köksmästare, så har jag försökt få en bild av hur det ser ut med "nya" kockars kunskaper. Är uppfattningen hos både dessa kockar och köksmästare att kunskaperna efter utbildningen räcker till för att klara yrket på godtagbart sätt?

    I undersökningen tar jag även upp tidigare forskning, som kan sättas i relation till undersökningen och dess syfte, samt kort om vad läroplanen säger om kunskaper och liknande. Undersökningen behandlar även en del begrepp, vilka framkommit i undersökningen, och som kan sättas i ett samband med de kunskaper som efterfrågas.

    Undersökningen visade, utan att generalisera, att det finns en uppfattning om att det brister i "nya" kockars kunskaper när de kommer ut i arbetslivet efter utbildningen. Dock visade det sig även att det finns skillnader kring uppfattningen om vilka kunskaper som saknas, när man tittar på vad kockarna och köksmästarna svarade i undersökningen.

    Det undersökningen även kan ge en antydan till är, var, och på vad, man bör börja titta för att utveckla och förbättra kockutbildningen. Detta för att ge "nya" kockar så goda förutsättningar som möjligt för att på bästa sätt träda in i det nya yrket.

    Abstract [sv]

    Detta examensarbete behandlar varför Älmhult inte växer. De senast tio åren har det rått bostadsbrist i Älmhult, framför allt på hyreslägenheter. Det finns undersökningar som visar att det finns ett hundratal potentiella inflyttare, men ett problem är att det inte finns någonstans att bo. För att ta reda på vad det är som hindrar företag från att bygga nya bostäder har vi intervjuat aktörer och politiker som är aktiva i Älmhults kommun. Intervjuerna har sammanställts och bearbetats i resultatet. Här framkommer bland annat åsikter om problematiken i att det inte är ekonomiskt lönsamt att nyproducera hyreslägenheter.

     

    Studien syftar till att ge en samlad bild över varför det inte byggs mer bostäder i Älmhult och vad man bör arbeta vidare med för att lösa detta problem. Arbetet har framför allt behandlat Älmhult som tätort och inte som kommun.

    Detta arbetes uppgift är att konstruera ett redskapsfäste för en lastmaskin av modell

    Volvo BM 840. Lastmaskinen är idag försett med ett gammalt mindre bra fäste, den

    behöver därför ett bättre, modernare och mer användbart redskapsfäste med hydraulisk

    redskapslåsning. Den typen av redskapsfäste som ger detta är ett Stora BM-fäste. För

    att få rätt mått har måttuppgifter tagits på andra maskiner och redskap. Resultatet blev

    kompletta ritningar för att kunna tillverka delarna till fästet på en verkstad.

    Hållfasthetsberäkningar har gjorts på de viktigaste ställena.

    Abstract [en]

    Maintenance has in recent years more and more become recognised as contributing to company profitability and competitiveness. Consequently, the need of selecting the most cost-effective maintenance for a certain component/equipment under certain circumstances has become more emphasised. For a certain component/equipment there might be more than one technically suitable maintenance policy to choose from. The most cost-effective maintenance policy should be selected. In this paper, the most popular selection methods have been introduced, discussed and compared using 11 criteria for identifying their weaknesses and strengths. Also, a study exploring maintenance selection methods in Swedish industry is conducted. Furthermore, a model for selecting and improving a maintenance policy based on cost-effectiveness is developed, tested and discussed in an application example. The model is designed to be user-friendly and usable for all types of maintenance policies. It can utilise historical data regarding failures if available and allow feedback and continuous improvements.

    Abstract [en]

    Decision making for asset management requires sophisticated tools which support daily planning as well as strategic development and improvement. What are the apprehended benefits with the current IT support for maintenance management and which problems do the maintenance managers struggle with? Are the managers satisfied with their IT solutions? What would they like to change in the future and what are the obstacles? Questions highly important as input for further technical enhancement of IT support for maintenance management, as well as they can help us in finding non-technical solutions to the problems encountered. This paper reports on maintenance and asset managers’ attitudes towards their IT support. The findings are based on two interview studies conducted in Sweden by the authors during 2008-2009. Findings reveal that the respondents are overall satisfied with their IT systems and they got appropriate support for their apprehended needs. Although, the managers report several problems faced, for instance with the integration towards other enterprise systems resulting in poor fit of functionality to the maintenance requirements. There are also problems in accessing relevant data for follow up of maintenance activities and the IT support could in general be better suited for decision making.

    Abstract [en]

    This work deals with the bearing capacity of wood based I-joists Finite element models were analyzed to determine the bearing capacity of I-joists, using the finite element software Abaqus CAE. The purpose of this study is to compare the results from the developed FE-models with experimental results, and with a previously proposed design formula. To perform the analyses finite element models were created. The model consists of three parts:, the web (made of shell element), the flanges and steel plates used at the supports and loading points (made of solid elements) To determine the bearing capacity of the I-joist two types of analyses were performed, a linear buckling analysis to check the risk of web buckling and a static (stress) analysis to check the risk of splitting of the flanges. This study shows that the steel plate length, in some cases, has little or no impact on primarily the splitting load. Furthermore, the buckling load decreases as the depth of the beam increases, the influence of the depth being proportional to 1/h2. The depth of the beam has no impact on the risk of splitting of the flange.

    This project investigates engine and cabin mounts of articulated haulers. Experimental study of engine and

    cabin mounts identifies the structural behaviour of the complicated metal-net elastomeric mounts to isolate

    driver from noise and vibration transfer. In order to achieve the expected results, the loss factor and dynamic

    stiffness of engine mount is studied to provide fundamental information of the energy dissipation.

    A simple experimental method is presented in this project to evaluate the frequency dependent rubber mount

    stiffness and damping characteristics by utilizing the measured complex frequency response function from low

    frequency. The study shows the transition of the rubber mount stiffness from static to dynamic values. Using the

    experimentally estimated values of the rubber mount stiffness and damping, the dynamic response of the tested

    spring-mass system using a metal-net rubber mount as the elastic element can be accurately reproduced.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis deals with the possibilities to apply the sawing pattern named star-sawing, also called PrimWood method, to logs of beech and birch. The results from test-sawing indicates that this method can improve booth quality and yield of the sawn wood compared to conventional methods. The method produces wood with standing annual rings which is favoured by customers of furniture, interior products, wooden floors and other high quality products. This type of wood is also well adapted to outdoor use if properly treated. The raw material of birch is concentrated to mid Sweden while raw material of beech mostly can be found in the three most southern provinces of Sweden. A sawmill using the star-sawing method is situated at the community of Högsby where mostly pine goods are produced. This report shows the desirability of two more sawmills using starsawing. One localized to mid Sweden using birch and one localized to Scania using beech as raw material. This would minimize the transport of raw material suited for star-sawing.
