Medan skivbolagen blöder blomstrar andra delar av musikbranschen?: En ekonomisk kartläggning av svenska skivbolag, bokningsbolag och musikförlag över en 8-årsperiod.2010Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

    ABSTRACT

Title:  Communication and types of leadership: an example from the Swedish Military Organisation

Level:  BA Thesis in Media and Communication Studies

Key words:  Leadership, charisma, directorship/manager, leader, communication

Purpose: The aim with this study  entitled "communication and leadership: an example from the Swedish military organisation”, was to get better insight about leadership and communication in the Swedish army. In this purpose, we used organisational theories as well as communication theories to illustrate and support our study and statements.

Method: our empirical data was based on a qualitative study but we even carried out a quantitative study, since a survey had been made. The purpose with the survey was to get, from people chosen randomly in the city of Kalmar, opinions and thoughts about leadership and communication in the Swedish army. We even did some deep interviews with former and present officers in Swedish army, in order to develop our study.

Results: At the end of our study we were able to say that there were different types of leadership, depending on the type of organisation. The Swedish army has a distinct structure when it comes to leadership and communication. However, even if the structure is based on a hierarchical pyramid, meaning that all the final decisions are the prerogative of the commanders, it is more and more common to initiate dialogue in this organisation. The lack of knowledge and prejudices are the main reasons why the Swedish military organisation is not well known. Another reason, based on the results from our survey, might be the lack of external communication from the army’s side.

Havet som Transportväg: En undersökning om MARPOL-Konventionens roll för transportköparna2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

A qualitative study regarding what role the MARPOL-Convention plays for the costumers of transport service. What regard of environment they take in consideration for their choice of carrier and to what degree they are aware of the MARPOL-Convention and the work the crew put in on board vessels, in order to live up to the requirements of the MARPOL-Convention. The problem deals with the understanding of the environmental work, not only within their own labor sector, but also in other labor sectors, is an important understanding to achieve a great partnership for the environment. The survey is based on a semi-structured method of open interviews with five Swedish companies that are dealing in goods internationally and are costumers of transport services. This survey shows that; long term transport costs, environmental work within the transport company, the reliability regarding the assigned delivery times and the earlier working relationship between shippers and carriers, play the greatest role for the choice of carrier. And that one out of five respondents are aware of the MARPOL-Convention, and some of the work it requires of the crew on board the vessels.

You can take the souvenir out of the destination but you can’t take the destination out of the souvenir: En kvalitativ studie av åttiotalisters syn på souveniren2010Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Lipashämmaren orlistats effekt på viktnedgång och typ 2-diabetes2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Sammanlagt inkluderades 8 artiklar i arbetet.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Title: ”It´s so sensitive” - Persons in authority's arguments around those persons with disabilities chooses to become parents.

Authors: Therese Andersson and Malene Helander

    Supervisor: Magdalena Damberg

The purpose with this paper is to describe and analyze how professionals act when people with disabilities chose to become parents. To achieve this purpose we have chosen to use a qualitative method with deliberation interviews. The interviews have been implemented with six different persons in authority who work in social welfare offices and as LSS - administrators.

Ensured to our questions, (1) How does persons in authority do in the meeting with persons that has a disability and chooses to become parents? (2) Which possibilities respective difficulties see persons in authority within social service and LSS with parenthood where the parent has a disability? (3) What is done in order to facilitate the needs that are added when persons with disabilities chooses to become parents? we consider that they have been responded to.

Through our empirical materials we can interpret and read out the replies that we searched for in connection with our survey. It has shown how persons in authority that is active within social service and LSS goes about when they meet persons with disabilities that want to form family. The procedure sees differently out depending on which disability the client in question has.

Keywords: Persons in authority, disability, empowerment, paternalism.

Licenshantering: - Är företag medvetna om sin licenshanteringssituation?2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In a community where copyright and intellectual property law is getting more attention in the media, it is important for companies to be aware of their possession of software licenses. In this thesis we are going to investigate the awareness of the software licensing situation in some companies. To collect data that can be analyzed, we are interviewing companies. The interviews are performed by phone or e-mail. A similar report hasn’t been done before therefore it’s an interesting subject to look at.

The interviews resulted in answers from 11 companies. The answers showed that the awareness about software licensing among the companies had big variations. Some other things that varied among the companies were the size of the companies and the usage of software licensing policy within the companies. The way and method of handling software licensing also varied among the companies.

A lot of software programs, along with folders and Excel-lists dominated the method of handling software licenses among the companies. Software developing companies together with their interest organization for example BSA has demands on companies using their software to have a foreseeable documentation for the software licenses. They gladly see that the companies uses a best practice method to manage their license possessions, one best practice method is Software Asset Management, SAM.

It is hard to recommend a method for software license management to a non-specific company, because every company has a unique organization and computer network structure. Most of the big license management software is following a best practice method for software license management.

Achieving Innovation Leadership Through External Collaborations: An Exploration of Two Swedish SMEs2008Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Magister), 20 points / 30 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The challenges of rising development costs and shorter product life cycles have made it harder for firms to invest in innovation. Current literature suggests that the answer to this problem is in adopting new innovation models, encompassing the concepts of open and networked innovation. Yet little attention has been paid to how SMEs utilize external partners to achieve innovation leadership and competitive advantage.

Based on in-depth qualitative studies of two case companies, SEKAB and Koenigsegg, and a literature review, we explore the progressing forms of R&D collaboration applied by SMEs to achieve innovation leadership.

The analysis of the cases reveals a number of different collaborations in different forms in where the two case companies have a different approach to collaborations. Yet a number of common key success factors are identified, such as the organization’s ability to attract external partners with complementary knowledge. Efficient acquisition and assimilation of knowledge is found to require a cross-functional organization, mutual trust and co-location. Finally it is concluded that the innovation process is not easily broken down into different phases, as transformation of knowledge has to be considered from a broader view as an ongoing process involving all of creation, transfer, adaptation and integration of knowledge, in which individual managers has a key role and responsibility for the entire process.

We present a selection of results based on data taken in 1997 with the 302-PMT Antarctic Muon and Neutrino Detector Array-B10 ("AMANDA-B10") array. Atmospheric neutrinos created in the northern hemisphere are observed indirectly through their charged current interactions which produce relativistic, Cherenkov-light-emitting upgoing muons in the South Pole ice cap. The reconstructed angular distribution of these events is in good agreement with expectation and demonstrates the viability of this ice-based device as a neutrino telescope. Studies of nearly vertical upgoing muons limit the available parameter space for WIMP dark matter under the assumption that WIMPS are trapped in the earth's gravitational potential well and annihilate with one another near the earth's center.

    Abstract [en]

This paper briefly summarizes the search for astronomical sources of high-energy neutrinos using the AMANDA-B10 detector. The complete data set from 1997 was analyzed. For Eμ > 10 TeV, the detector exceeds 10,000 m2 in effective area between declinations of 25 and 90 degrees. Neutrinos generated in the atmosphere by cosmic ray interactions were used to verify the overall sensitivity of the detector. The absolute pointing accuracy and angular resolution has been confirmed by the analysis of coincident events between the SPASE air shower array and the AMANDA detector. Preliminary flux limits from point source candidates are presented. For declinations larger than +45 degrees, our results compare favorably to existing limits for sources in the Southern sky. We also present the current status of the searches for high energy neutrino emission from diffusely distributed sources, GRBs, and WIMPs from the center of the earth.

    Abstract [en]

AMANDA is a high-energy neutrino telescope presently under construction at the geographical South Pole. In the Antarctic summer 1995/96, an array of 80 optical modules (OMs) arranged on 4 strings (AMANDA-B4) was deployed at depths between 1.5 and 2 km. In this paper we describe the design and performance of the AMANDA-B4 prototype, based on data collected between February and November 1996. Monte Carlo simulations of the detector response to down-going atmospheric muon tracks show that the global behavior of the detector is understood. We describe the data analysis method and present first results on atmospheric muon reconstruction and separation of neutrino candidates. The AMANDA array was upgraded with 216 OMs on 6 new strings in 1996/97 (AMANDA-B10), and 122 additional OMs on 3 strings in 1997/98.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Tacit knowledge refers to the knowledge that is located inside individuals; it is not expressed or written like explicit knowledge. Inherently, tacit knowledge is often limited solely to one person and consequently individually based. Project based companies need to acknowledge the importance of transforming tacit knowledge into explicit in order to preserve the knowledge inside the organisation. If the knowledge is not transformed, there is a great risk of losing the knowledge when a key individual leaves the organization.

One way of transforming the tacit knowledge is through Nonaka’s and Takeuchi’s knowledge spiral. But the knowledge spiral ignores some wider issues that should be included in order to achieve a transformation. This thesis shows that the knowledge spiral is a good base but the organisation has to provide a supporting context and an open culture to create an environment where a transformation can be accomplished. This thesis stresses that a transformation is not always the ultimate choice since it is not, at all times, possible. In some cases, distribution of tacit knowledge throughout the organisation is a better alternative to preserve the knowledge. A distribution can, for instance, be done through learning by doing. The thesis demonstrates that an organisation has to choose either a transformation or a distribution. The choice depends on which alternative that brings the most improvements, advantages and effectiveness for the organisation. The situation will then, as a consequence, decide whether the knowledge is to be transformed or not.

    Abstract [en]

We present results based on data taken in 1997 with the 302-PMT Antarctic Muon and Neutrino Detector Array-B10 ("AMANDA-B10") array.

Observation of high-energy neutrinos using Čerenkov detectors embedded deep in Antarctic ice2001In: Nature, ISSN 0028-0836, E-ISSN 1476-4687, Vol. 410, no 6827, p. 441-443Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Neutrinos are elementary particles that carry no electric charge and have little mass. As they interact only weakly with other particles, they can penetrate enormous amounts of matter, and therefore have the potential to directly convey astrophysical information from the edge of the Universe and from deep inside the most cataclysmic high-energy regions. The neutrino's great penetrating power, however, also makes this particle difficult to detect. Underground detectors have observed low-energy neutrinos from the Sun and a nearby supernova2, as well as neutrinos generated in the Earth's atmosphere. But the very low fluxes of high-energy neutrinos from cosmic sources can be observed only by much larger, expandable detectors in, for example, deep water3,4 or ice5. Here we report the detection of upwardly propagating atmospheric neutrinos by the ice-based Antarctic muon and neutrino detector array (AMANDA). These results establish a technology with which to build a kilometre-scale neutrino observatory necessary for astrophysical observations1.

    Abstract [en]

The AMANDA high energy neutrino telescope has successfully been increased in size from four detector strings to ten detector strings during the 1996/1997 season. The first upward going muon-neutrino candidates have been reconstructed from the 1996 year's four-string data. Three new detector strings will be deployed during 1997/1998 to 2350 metres depth.

    Abstract [en]

With an effective telescope area of order 104 m2 for TeV neutrinos, a threshold near ∼50 GeV and a pointing accuracy of 2.5 degrees per muon track, the AMANDA detector represents the first of a new generation of high energy neutrino telescopes, reaching a scale envisaged over 25 years ago. We describe early results on the calibration of natural deep ice as a particle detector as well as on AMANDA's performance as a neutrino telescope.

Pedagogers stöd till elev med autism2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Anabola Androgena Steroider & Identiteter2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 15 poäng / 22,5 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

There is little knowledge about abuse of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) in Sweden. This

paper aims to explore, from a discourse psychological angle, how persons with experience of

anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) construct there identities.

The theory and method used as a frame for the paper is discursive psychology, depending on the

focus in the paper of human beings use of language in the construction of identities. For

collection of data interviews were made. The six respondents al had experience of use of AAS.

The interviews illustrated how users of AAS speak about AAS, and create there identity, in

relation to AAS. In the interpretation of data we used two different tools, used by discursive

psychologists, interpretative repertoires and subject positions. Though the interpretative

repertoires we were able to separate the ways the respondents construct there statements. Subject

positions made it possible for us to interpret where the respondents did place themselves in there

speech. Other perspectives, derived from literature on the subject AAS, was brought into the

analysis. Other perspectives provide us with assumptions and make it possible to separate themes

    and discourses from the data.

Two discourses where separated from data, restrictive discourse and legal discourse. The

discourses contain three teams, use/abuse, physical risks and social risks. In the speech,

respondents, relate to these teams in order to construct there identities. The respondents construct

the speech in order to make use of AAS reasonable to them selves. The respondents construct the

speech in the direction towards a liberal discourse. They construct the use of AAS as reasonable

to them selves. The respondents make mostly difference between use and abuse of AAS and

don’t position them selves as abusers of AAS without reservations. A crucial component in the

construction of an identity as a user is the reduction of risks. The respondents reduce the risks

with AAS in different ways and make an identity as a user possible.

Debattforum - nätjournalistikens verktyg för demokratisk dialog: En studie av debattforum på två lokaltidningars nätupplaga2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This study intends to examine the characters of online forums available on the web editions of local newspapers in Sweden. It examines the opportunities for these online forums to serve as arenas for public debate supporting the strive towards a democracy characterized by active citizen participation with deliberative qualities.

Research shows an increase in numbers of Internet users globally and in Sweden. It also shows that more and more people read their news on the online editions of the daily news papers. One of the functions the Swedish government expects the media to have in society is to serve as a forum for debate. How online forums of daily news papers web eitions can help the media to fulfill this expectation is one of the main issues studied.

The study focuses on observations of quantitative data concerning the activity in these forums. The amount of articles the web editor made possible to comment was counted as well as the user contributions to the discussion in the forum.

The characteristics of the debate were examined in a qualitative manner with the intention to find out more about the nature of the conversation. The observations were complemented with interviews with 6 people working with the web edition of the three daily news papers we studied. The interviews gave a better understanding of how the different online editions were organized and the issues they are facing.

The result of the study show that the forum function was well used and that the local news was the most important for readers to discuss. The web editions examined had all different ways of handling moderation as well as reasoning around which articles to choose for debate. One paper made all articles available for public debate, another only a selection. The dialogue was held according to the rules written on the edition of how to debate. The forum showed clear signs of conversation, such as comments from participants addressing other participants. The comments were written in a serious form but not entirely impartial which would be correct in a deliberative perspective. There were also a lot of unique signatures among the forum participants which indicates a broad debate.

In summary, the online forums moderated by the newspapers are well suitable as tools to stimulate a more active citizen participation in the democratization process. However, to ensure more active citizens, more resources, competence and finances are needed to enable the editorial staff to develop and implement the functions for user interaction and participation. There is no doubt there are already a vast number of citizens in society ready to use them.

Striving for Business Excellence in Belarus: Tendencies of Quality Management in IT Industry2006Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Magister), 15 poäng / 22,5 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Nonetheless IT sector is considered as highly competitive Belarus is listed in the top five, while also be-ing in the transitional stage. Thus, this thesis examined the tendencies of the quality management in Bel-arus IT industry. TQM, commonly used control system – ISO, and Business Excellence Models – Mal-colm Baldrige National Quality Award (MNBQA) and European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) were used as the basis for our research. The main premise for the research is that it is not nec-essary to excel in all concepts of TQM, where ISO was used as the primary step towards total quality.

Hence it was deduced that quality in the collected sample differs among the concepts. Even though the main concept of customer satisfaction is acknowledged, the human factor is still undervalued. This might also be the flaw hinged by ISO. However, further research could be done, covering bigger sample and observing the shift of these tendencies.

Skolans friluftsliv: - Om samverkan, målbeskrivning och ämnesintegration.2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpStudent thesis
