    I det här examensarbetet undersöks den upplevda arbetsbelastningen vid ruttplanering i ECDIS. Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur svenska däcksbefäl inom handelssjöfarten upplever arbetsbelastningen vid ruttplanering med ECDIS. Studien syftar vidare till att undersöka vilka moment under ruttplanering i ECDIS däcksbefäl uppfattar som mest belastande. Studien är avgränsad till svenska sjöbefäl med erfarenhet av ruttplanering ombord. Resultaten visar att informanterna upplever problem med hårdvaran som levereras med installationen av ECDIS, ibland så stora problem att de ombord byter ut den medföljande hårdvaran mot annan hårdvara. De upplever även att det inte finns optimal arbetsyta vid arbete i ECDIS samt att det saknas avsatt tid till ruttplanering.

    Allt fler företag använder sig av sociala medier och när marknaden växer blir också kraven för hur medierna ska användas större. Hur företagsbloggar används i praktiken saknas det djupare forskning kring och syftet med undersökningen var att beskriva hur företag använder sig av bloggar i sin marknadskommunikation. Undersökningen utgick från ett öppet förhållningssätt och utfördes genom observationer av fyra olika företag med sammanlagt sex unika bloggar. Undersökningen utgick från en kvalitativ ansats och observationerna gjordes genom små n-studier. Resultatet från observationerna jämfördes med teorin för att se om dessa överensstämde med varandra vilket det i många fall visade sig göra. Företagen i undersökningen hade olika inriktningar på sina bloggar. Personerna som bloggade åt företagen var oftast anställda, ett av förtagen skilde sig åt genom att använda sig av externa bloggare. Alla företagsbloggarna skrevs av personer med kompetens inom det ämnesområde de bloggade om. Det skiljde sig mycket mellan företagen i vilken utsträckning de lyckats uppnå en dubbelriktad kommunikation med sina läsare. Personliga temabloggar inriktade mot en specifik målgrupp var de som lyckades bäst tillsammans med inlägg från kända personer. För att ett företag ska lyckas med sin blogg identifierades några framgångsfaktorer. Bloggen ska vara av personligkaraktär och de som bloggar ska ha ett genuint intresse och god kunskap om det ämne de skriver om och bloggen ska uppdateras ofta. Företaget måste också känna till sin målgrupp och erbjuda dem något de finner attraktivt för att de ska vilja läsa och delta på bloggen.

    Har du sett det andra älskar?: En fallstudie om hur nudging kan förbättra användarupplevelsen i hedoniska system2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    The research conducted in this study aims to answer if, and in that case how, nudging can be used to affect the user experience in hedonic systems. The study is based on the theory of Hedonic-Motivation System Adoption Model (HMSAM) to explain people ́s intrinsic motivations and how they are tied to the user experience of hedonic systems. Furthermore, theories about user experience focusing on experiences in digital interfaces, as well as the theory of nudging with a focus on digital nudging are also presented. The study has been conducted through a case study at SVT Play, the Swedish Television's digital Video on Demand (VoD) platform and resulted in a proposition for a change in the current platform. Through a qualitative data collection in the form of six narrative interviews with different informants, their experiences and thoughts about the inner motivations in HMSAM as well as their user experiences with VoD were investigated. In the end of each interview a “walkthrough” in SVT Play was conducted.

    The result from the narrative interviews showed that an element with information about what media content other users like was hard to find or perceived as nonexistent, something that all informants desired in SVT Play. From the theory about nudging and the psychological effect social norms, which implies that the choices people make are affected by what other people do, together with result from the interviews, a proposition of a change was created for SVT Play. The proposition suggested changing the title for the section “Populärt” (popular in English), in SVT Play ́s current interface, to a title with a higher level of social proof (meaning how clear the psychological effect social norms was being targeted). Six different versions of the title, with different levels of social proof were created. These six versions were then tested in real time through A/B testing in the SVT Play platform, together with the original title “Populärt”, to examine if a higher level of social proof help users find and choose media content, thus enhance their user experience.

    The A/B test was live in SVT Play during eight days, while being exposed to almost one and a half million users. The result was however not significant enough to draw any conclusions with high reliability. Two of the propositions that people clicked the most and completed watching content, were the two versions with the highest level of social proof, “Populärt bland andra tittare” (Popular among other viewers, in English) and “Har du sett det andra älskar? (Have you seen what other people love? in English). Even though the patterns are not significant, a summary of the result from the empirical enquiry suggest that social norms can be used to affect the user experience in a VoD platform. Additional qualitative data collections would be both interesting and necessary to ensure relationschips.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this investigation was to clarify whether a flue gas condenser was a good investment for Nybro Energi AB. Saxlund Bioenergy AB was contacted for the compilation of quotation. Using parameters from Nybro Energi AB and the quote from Saxlund Bioenergy AB, calculations were made to determine whether an investment was suitable. The results of the study showed that the investment of the kind dealt with in this work was earned after less than seven years of operation, and the output that was possible to recover amounted to 2,8 MW, provided that the boiler output consisted of at least 15 MW. The conclusions were that the investment was not paid after seven years because of the costs consisted of possible reconstructions were not considered in the survey, this does not mean that an investment was unprofitable since these costs were estimated as small relative to the total savings after the economic life of 15 years, has expired.

    Abstract [en]

    This Degree Project has been done at Växjö University, department of bioenergy technology and discusses the released thermal power in wood pellets. The purpose of the project is to investigate if two new types of wood biofuels (pellets) are more or less reactive than the pellets previously investigated at Växjö University. To measure the released thermal power, an isothermal calorimeter with eight channels has been used. To see how the microbial activity is influenced, the pellets have been stored under various conditions with focus on temperature and metal.

    Abstract [en]

    Sustainability is a normative concept, building on ideas such as justice, equity and responsibility, and based on human culture and society. Computers, internet, and the technologies that are central in our network society embed also normative values and are part of a cultural context. But the work looking at computer technologies and sustainability has been mostly oriented towards either calculating the impact of technology or using technology as a tool for solving practical problems. ICT is seen as a neutral system to be used or study, while the more normative aspects are mostly overlooked. This paper explores some of the problems arising from these overlooked normative values, such as focusing only on quantifiable problems while forgetting other aspects that may be as important but not easy to put in numbers, or trusting too much in numbers while hiding assumption and model choices. This paper suggests that more critical reflection on these questions is needed in the research area, as well as developing more connections with existing research on these topics in more traditional disciplines.

    Abstract [en]

    Work on a navigational bridge consists to a great extent of control tasks. Control and alarm systems are available to facilitate this work. The interaction between humans and systems depends partly on the  user's knowledge and experience and partly on bridge design and technologies’ usability. The topic of this thesis is the handling of alarms and alarm systems on  navigational  bridges.  The aim was to  study  whether there are strategies for this and if so, to illustrate how these strategies work. For this reason seven officers’  experiences were examined with  qualitative methods, semi-structured interviews and content analysis.

    The investigation led among other things to the following conclusions:  

    Alarm handling is often done according to unwritten rules and agreements. It is seen as part of the profession and is done on the side.

    Officers follow a scheme when an alarm calls for their attention.

    Officers construct their own tools and methods to deal with ergonomic problems and malfunctions.

    A model to support development of procedural description to improve the quality control of production in different cultures: A case study of a Swedish toys vendee and its outsourcing2007Student thesis

    The main purpose of this thesis is to develop a model for designing a quality control procedural description with respect to cultural differences. This project is conducted at the case company. The problem in the case company is to analyse the existing procedural description of quality control to develop a model to improve the quality control of production with respect to different cultures. The authors visit the case company to collect essential information to accomplish the thesis, face-to-face user interviews, Question & Answer via email. The knowledge gained on different quality tools during studies at School of Technology and Design (Terotechnology) for the basis of this research. The plan of this thesis uses the different quality tools and techniques to solve the problem by analyzing, mapping the existing processes. The analysis is based on theoretical and empirical facts, also different quality tools like process mapping, cause & effect diagram and flowchart are use to identify the problem and relevant suggestions have been proposed to improve their current situation. In the results and conclusions the authors explain a model for designing a quality control procedural description. The authors believed by implementing the suggested improved model company can address their quality issues, which will improve the productivity to a greater extent and enable them to achieve their goal of continuous improvement.

    Communication is main factor in this thesis. In the case company there is such as no main problem of low or bad quality in the product. Occurrence is more important to develop good relations with the suppliers. Continuously repeat of the specification and demand over & over again is very important for clear communication between buyer & seller as well as feed back and follow up of the order from both parties.

    Abstract [en]

    In many daily applications glasses are indispensable and novel applications demanding improved strength and crack resistance are appearing continuously. Up to now, the fundamental mechanical processes in glasses subjected to high strain rates at room temperature are largely unknown and thus guidelines for one of the major failure conditions of glass components are non-existent. Here, we elucidate this important regime for the first time using glasses ranging from a dense metallic glass to open fused silica by impact as well as quasi-static nanoindentation. We show that towards high strain rates, shear deformation becomes the dominant mechanism in all glasses accompanied by Non-Newtonian behaviour evident in a drop of viscosity with increasing rate covering eight orders of magnitude. All glasses converge to the same limit stress determined by the theoretical hardness, thus giving the first experimental and quantitative evidence that Non-Newtonian shear flow occurs at the theoretical strength at room temperature.

    Vertical Displacements in a Medium-rise Timber Building: Limnologen in Växjö, Sweden2009Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    The history of timber buildings in Sweden entered a new era when the authorities decided to lift the ban on constructing more than two-storey timber buildings in Sweden. This change in legislations has contributed to the emergence of timber construction during the last decade. The Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) has become recognized as a new technology that used correctly in construction gives strong and reliable structures. The building material is gaining more credit day by day mainly due to the stiffness and strength it proved throughout the tests in projects where it was used.

    One of the projects that used CLT as load bearing elements was Limnologen in the city of Växjö 500 kilometres south of Stockholm. In this project, a system of CLT floors as well as CLT walls has been used. One of the challenges related to medium-rise timber buildings in general is to calculate and take account of the vertical displacement of the whole building. The sources for the displacements are instantaneous elastic as well as time dependent. In this thesis we are introducing two evaluation methods for the vertical displacements in Limnologen. The first is the experimentally measured vertical displacement that was performed by a group of researchers from Växjö University, and the second is a Finite Element Model simulating the vertical displacement according to the factors and parameters thought to be important to be included in the modelling. The output of the simulation was to be compared with the experimentally obtained values. Simulation is an important way to predict the vertical displacement in future CLT buildings. All modelling were done using the finite element software Abaqus.

    The Abaqus model of the Limnologen building consists of six wall elements from six storeys. The modelled wall elements are the wall elements that the vertical displacement devices were installed on. The reason for this is to get a better picture of how the results from the model would yield in comparison to the site measurements. The floor itself and the sylodyn used in the interface between wall and floor were also modelled.

    The data collected from the site were processed in the software Matlab. Several graphs were attained out of the data processing. The most important graph is the one that include both the total relative displacement and the equivalent moisture content in the CLT. The equivalent moisture content was calculated from the measured temperature and relative humidity.

    In this thesis it is concluded that a simulation can accomplish an acceptable reliability with respect to the vertical displacements. The shrinkage factor has played a vital role in simulation of the displacements. The maximum displacement obtained from the measurements was 21 mm while the maximum displacement gained from the simulation based on three different assumptions was 35 mm, 33 mm, and 17 mm respectively with the similar displacement pattern. The difference in the results can partly be explained by the assumptions used for the equivalent moisture content and local coordinate system of the CLT layers. In the simulation the moisture content was assumed to be equal over each layer of the CLT-panel. The first two assumptions were formulated due to the amphibolous grain of the middle layer of the CLT-panel which was considered having effect on the vertical displacement. The third assumption was formulated due to the glue layer between the wood layers of the CLT-panel which was considered having effect on preventing moisture diffuse from one layer to another layer. In reality it is questionable if the moisture content is varied in the different layers of the CLT-panel. The diffusion of the moisture content hasn't been taken into account.

    Microgrids containing photovoltaic (PV) cells and wind power gain more and more interest. These microgrids may work in stand-alone mode ("islanding") or be conncted to the main grid. In both modes of operation, power quality must be monitored and controlled.

    This report focuses on microgrids and aims to implement a monitoring system based on FPGA. In the monitoring system, two applications can be achieved, firstly a PAS-MPPT algorithm in a DC-DC boost converter to improve the maximun power point tracking of a PV unit, and secondly a detection and switching system of the grid mode - stand-alone or connected to the main grid. Simulation results prove the Verilog programs in FPGA are suitable to be used in microgrids.

    Abstract [en]

    Continuous-wave frequency-modulated radar, or FMCW radar, is simple in design, small in size and weight and uses low transmitting power. The range resolution depends on the bandwidth. FMCWradar is used in applications ranging from guided weapons systems to vehicle collision avoidance systems. Measuring the distance to the target is the essential feature of FMCW radar. Firstly, this thesis introduces the basic structure of the FMCW radar and the principle formeasuring distance. Secondly, by using software-dened radio (SDR),FMCW radar can be implemented and congured with a reduced costand complexity. In this report, the radar is implemented by means ofthe software GNU Radio Companion with a test signal. HackRF may be used in future work with an osmocom source instead of the testsignal.

    With the nature of exploring and less awareness of danger, furniture at home has been causing various kinds of child injury all over the world. Furniture tipping over is one emerging cause among children under 6 years old. Despite of the importance of child safety, it lacks evidence about people’s perceptions of child safety towards residential furniture. Hence, this thesis used the theory of consumer behaviour to identify factors that can potentially effect perceptions and applied quantitative and qualitative methods to find out perceived importance of child safety when people buy furniture and how people perceive child safety in a given case. It has been found that people perceive child safety much less important when buying furniture not specifically for children. Some factors, such as age, income have influence on it. In the given case of chest of drawers, when perceived to be more likely to tip over, people are more willing to anchor a chest of drawers. It has also found that a three-row and shallow type has mixed perceptions. When the weight of a chest is perceived to be more important, people agree more on the statement that a heavier chest of drawers is less likely to tip over. Although anchoring is considered to be an efficient way of preventing tipping over, results showed that it is not a preferred way for most people. Further study is needed to find out other ways. Information of child safety is welcomed by most of the people. More research can be done to find out effective ways of displaying child safety information.

    Weak flexural properties of wood plastic composites(WPCs) limit their structural application. Recentlyinvestigation of nano particles looks promising to enhancebending properties of WPCs. In this study, the authors haveinvestigated the effect of different concentrations of nanoclay(modified montmorillonite) and coupling agent on themechanical and micro-structural properties of polypropylene/wood-fiber composites. We Bath internal mixer in certainprocessing conditions used for making the samples and then allsamples molded using injection molding for making samplesfor performing mechanical measurements. Samples preparedin four different concentration of nanoclay 0, 1, 3 and 5 wt%(total weight) and two different concentrations of maleicanhydride grafting (MAPP) 5 and 10 wt%. Mechanical resultsindicate that both flexural and impact strength of thecomposites increasing in sample containing 3% nano clay. Inother trend, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) imagesshow better interaction of wood fibers and polymer matrixwhen the authors added 5 wt% MAPP as coupling agent.

    Uppsatsen belyser och beskriver en del av yrkeslärarens många kompetenser och dagliga verksamhet, men den handlar också hur en utveckling av dessa kompetenser skulle kunna ske. Min egen bildningsresa inom frisöryrket skildras med några trevande försök att klippa hår till att numera jobba som frisörlärare. I vårt arbetslag på den gymnasieskola där jag jobbar, som lärare och programansvarig för Hantverksprogrammet, avsattes arbetsplatsträffar under läsåret 2013-2014 för att bland annat få tid till diskussion om begreppet formativ bedömningen, men även för att skapa en plattform för ett kollegialt lärande.     Abstract [en]

    We investigate a novel approach to e-Learning using Seman-tic Web technologies and aiming to optimise the learners’ experience incorporating pedagogical strategies into the learning process. The in-creasing availability of Semantic Web based educational resources and the establishment of open metadata standards like IEEE LOM pave the way for enhanced e-Learning systems that support personalised learning based on a reasoning framework and formal ontologies. We use ontologies to describe learning objects and the learner state, and define pedagogi-cal recommendation axioms that specify which learning objects are best suited for the learner in a specific situation. Recent pedagogical findings suggest that the individual learning can be optimised by means of guid-ance through learning pathways, i. e., a particular order in which learning objects are to be studied. To this end, we offer an OWL model for learn-ing pathways as structured sequences. We show the strengths and limits of OWL and propose a solution to overcome problems such as handling of soft constraints and ranking of result sets. The calculation for ranking is based on individual weights for specific learner-related features and considers the degree of match between learning objects and learner’s needs. The feasibility of our approach is shown by modelling real-life course material, i.e. a complete course on the Philosophy of Didactics. We implemented our approach as a prototype system and interfaced it to a standard Learning Management System.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper presents and analyses a new method for derivation of setting values for strength grading machines. The method uses a model for the relationship between indicating property (measured by a grading machine, IP) and the grade determining property (GDP). This model is of course not perfect and by summarising the errors in the model a confidence interval for the model can be calculated. The confidence interval is used for creating a prediction interval. The lower limit of the prediction interval, the prediction limit, is used to predict the GDP. The prediction limit method is analysed and evaluated by well defined input data. It is shown that fewer perimental data than required by the method in EN 14081-2 today is needed to determine reliable settings but the producer is awarded with less conservative settings with an increased number of experimental data. A weak correlation between IP and GDP or a high coefficient of variation also results in conservative settings. The settings are not dependent on average strength of the raw material used for deriving the settings.

    Abstract [en]

    The paper describes the Output control method in EN 14081-3 as an alternative to the more common machine control method in EN 14081-2 for strength grading of timber. A newly developed program for analysing settings and varying input material is presented, as well as results from the analysis. If output control is used instead of machine control, it is possible to increase the yield, at the expense of making more proof-loading tests. The output control method can hardly catch a shift in input material quality, unless the shift stretches over several weeks. At present is the evaluation of the proof-loading results for MOR and MOE dependant of each other. If one of the properties goes out of control then both properties are evaluated according to the out-of-control procedure. This results in an inconsistent evaluation of the grading result. A pre-grading of logs gives a more reliable grading but results also in a lower yield.

    Abstract [sv]

    Syftet med arbetet var att undersöka vilka tillvägagångssätt barn använder vid sortering och vilka matematiska begrepp barn använder när de sorterar. Undersökningen är kvalitativ och baseras på deltagande observationer med tio barn mellan 3-6 år. Materialet som användes var pasta, kritor och pärlor. Resultatet visar att barnen sorterade utifrån egna kännetecken och valde egenskaper hos materialet som var mest intressesant för dem just vid det tillfället. Alla visade intresse för färg, men de hade förmåga att sortera och använda andra kriterier som form, storlek, mönster, och mängd också. Vidare visar resultatet att barn som hade kunskap/erfarenheter om sortering uppmärksammade och hjälpte andra barn med mindre erfarenheter om sortering än dem själva. Barnen fick en annan roll där de var tvungna att visa eller använda verbalt språk för att den de sorterade med skulle förstå dem. Barnen använde matematiska begrepp som handlade om placering, lokalisering och tid. De kunde para ihop, gruppera och använde sig av subitizing, dvs. med snabb blick fastställa antal. Barnen hittade på egna samband utifrån något som de hade sett, dvs. utifrån egna erfarenheter. De använde mest substantiv och adjektiv som ett sätt att beskriva föremålens egenskaper.

    Abstract [en]

    The negative environmental impact of the consumption of fossil fuels has led to an increased claim for a wider use of renewable energy sources. Biomass appears as a particularly promising option. This project demonstrates the possibility to heat glass furnaces with gas from biofuel gasification combusted without visible flames. By better technique you can both retain production and reduce nitrogenoxide emissions with economical benefit. The biofuel doesn’t contribute to the greenhouse effect. A part of the whole project is the experiments performed on June 1st 2004 in Kosta glass- factory, total 7 hours and 50 minutes. A major effort of this diploma work is to evaluate mass and energy balances of the down – draft fixed bed gasifier used in the experiments.

    Abstract [en]

    As of 1 January 2015, the new F -Gas Regulation, the EU / 57/ 2014, will apply. This means that leak detection intervals will change and that old refrigerants will be phased out and replaced by new ones. The purpose of this paper was to find out how the refrigeration sector was affected by the new F-Gas Regulation. To find out, three representatives from the refrigeration sector were interviewed to share their views on the situation. Topics covered were: How will the refrigeration sector manage a possible increased workload, do the entrepreneurs have the knowledge needed for the future, will there be cost increases and what will the future refrigerants be? To summarize, the refrigeration sector believes that they are, after some supplementary courses, well prepared and that there will be no significant increase in workload and that possible cost increases will mainly be on the user.

    Abstract [en]

    This bachelor thesis deals with the subject of business process modelling in an outsourced environment. The communication process between two parties that are on either side of the globe can be problematic and affect the quality of the system requirements. The background of this study is that there is a lack of communication between these parties, which will eventuate in poor results.

     

    The purpose of this study is to find out whether it is possible to make use of business process modelling in an outsourced environment in order to increase the quality of system requirements by bringing the two parties closer together with help of a common language. A qualitative approach was used to interview relevant informants at Länsförsäkringar AB and its business units Länsförsäkringar Liv and Länsförsäkringar Bank.

     

    We have identified that it is not necessarily the system requirements that have a poor quality but how these system conveyed to the external supplier. Based on our data collection, we realized the great benefits of business process modelling as a means of communication in the system development, which can be a huge advantage in an outsourced environment. According to our study, it is certain that a business process modelling with mapped processes and flow charts can support communication as a common language because of the creation of processes and images instead of text.

    More and more ship-owners are looking at environmentally friendlier alternatives because of harsher environmental requirements which are to be implemented in the year 2015. There is no external education for personnel that handles liquefied natural gas as a ship fuel to date. The lack of recommendations of what is to be included in an education contributes to varying competence amongst personnel. The purpose of this study is to examine the need for an education for personnel that handle gas as ship fuel in Sweden and to explain how an education ought to be imposed. The study was implemented with a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews. The study indicates a minor need for education in LNG as ship fuel today. Although the need for education is going to increase in the coming years as the LNG-driven fleet is growing. The education shall be designed accordingly to the IGF-codes recommendations to ensure the safety of the crew and the vessel.

    There is a vast amount of forest in Sweden and parts of that is used as an energy source to heat up homes. Many homes are heated with pellet burners and some of these are old and inefficient. The purpose of this report is to rebuild a 2009 Ariterm PX21 pellet burner by installing a lambda controller.Currently, the burner has no built-in technique that controls the combustion. The purpose of the lambda controller is to control the pellet feeder to the burner with a lambda transmitter and by that control the combustion. The report aims to answer if that installation will improve the combustion and how long it will take until the investment is profitable.A lambda transmitter has been installed on the funnel and two Arduinos has been programmed and installed together with a relay connected to the feeder’s electrical supply. Exhaust measurements have been performed both before and after the installations. There was an improvement on NO, NOx, and CO2 after the installation. There was also an improvement of the efficiency and fuel consumption. Therefore, the installation of a lambda controller can be considered to improve the combustion. With the expenses made and the savings on pellet consumption, the installation will be profitable within one season.

    I detta examensarbete studeras normbytet från BKR till Eurokod på en tillbyggnad till Växjö sjukhus. Tillbyggnaden kallas Hus X. I studien jämförs lastnedräkning och dimensioneringar mellan normerna, tillämpat på Hus X.Beräkningar och dimensioneringar sker i detta arbete enligt Eurokod. Resultaten jämförs sedan med de resultat som Martin & Co tagit fram enligt BKR.Dimensioneringar som utförs i denna studie är på tre stålpelare och en stålbalk.Materialkostnader kommer att minska något med normbytet. Stomdelarnas dimensioner skiljer sig dock ytterst lite mellan normerna, materialkostnaderna minskar därmed marginellt.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper deals with escort towing and the pilots’ attitudes towards the usage of this. The method used is qualitative and the approach is hypothetico-deductive.  Results from the interviews conducted with pilots in Gothenburg harbor gave an impression that, in general, the pilots favored the use of escort towing although their opinions sometimes differed on what type of ships should be included and excluded by escort regulations. To further the study, a comparison has been made to an earlier American report on the Puget Sound area by using it as a basis for the Port of Gothenburg and the West Coast. The conclusion is that the pilots' attitudes towards escort towing will surely be the same given that the shipping industry is growing as well as transportation worldwide is increasing. With this in mind, it can be assumed that the requirements of safety will increase. In this case, it is believed that more ports may take after Gothenburg in terms of requirements and rules regarding escort towing.

    Det finns olika tekniska lösningar för hantering, transport och återvinning av plastindustrins spillmaterial, men vilken metod som är mest lämpad för en specifik industri är svårt att avgöra.

    Syftet med studien var att få ökad kunskap och förståelse för hur faktorer som arbetsmiljöpåverkan, miljöpåverkan, funktion, flödeseffektivitet och investeringskostnad påverkar val av transportlösning för spillmaterial. Baserat på dessa faktorer är studiens mål att genom en förstudie presentera ett beslutsunderlag för en eventuell investering.

    För att finna den mest lämpade transportlösningen och förstå det grundläggande problemet med det nuvarande systemet genomfördes en nulägesanalys på fallföretaget. Informationen låg senare till grund när en undersökning av olika lösningsalternativ på marknaden gjordes. För att urskilja de mer relevanta alternativen för fallföretaget användes en kravspecifikation samt Kanomodellen. När de relevanta lösningarna valts ut jämfördes dessa mot varandra genom en QFD-matris för identifiering av den mest lämpliga transportlösningen.

    Resultatet av studien indikerade genom en QFD-matris att det manuella systemet var att föredra för fallföretaget.

    Operational Modal Analysis of a Boring Bar During Cutting2005Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Internal turning or boring operation is a common metal working process that is usually associatedwith vibration problems. Vibration problems in internal turning considerably influence importantfactors such as surface quality, productivity, production costs, etc. In this paper we report analysisresults from an operational modal analysis of a boring bar during cutting operation. The results arecompared with operating deflection shape results and traditional modal analysis results of the sameboring bar. Results show that the first bending modes in the directions of cutting speed and cuttingdepth are active in the operating vibrations. The three analysis methods result in similar conclusions.

    In this paper, an initial investigation of the nonlinear dynamic properties of clamped boring bars is carried out.Two nonlinear, single-degree-of-freedom models with different softening spring nonlinearities are introduced formodeling the nonlinear dynamic behavior of the fundamental bending mode in the cutting speed direction of aboring bar. Also, two different methods for the simulation of nonlinear models are used. The dynamic behavior interms of frequency response function estimates for the nonlinear models and the experimental modal analysis ofthe clamped boring bar is compared. Similar resonance frequency shift behavior for varying excitation force levelsis observed for both the nonlinear models and the actual boring bar.

    Abstract [en]

    Boring bars are frequently used in the manufacturing industry to turn deep cavities in workpieces and are usually associated with vibration problems. This paper focuses on the clamping properties’ influence on the dynamic properties of clamped boring bars. A standard clamping housing of the variety commonly used in industry today has been used. Both a standard boring bar and a modified boring bar have been considered. Two methods have been used: Euler–Bernoulli beam modeling and experimental modal analysis. It is demonstrated that the number of clamping screws, the clamping screw diameter sizes, the screw tightening torques, the order the screws are tightened has a significant influence on a clamped boring bars eigenfrequencies and its mode shapes orientation in the cutting speed—cutting depth plane. Also, the damping of the modes is influenced. The results indicate that multi-span Euler–Bernoulli beam models with pinned boundary condition or elastic boundary condition modeling the clamping are preferable as compared to a fixed-free Euler–Bernoulli beam for modeling dynamic properties of a clamped boring bar. It is also demonstrated that a standard clamping housing clamping a boring bar with clamping screws imposes non-linear dynamic boring bar behavior.

    Det här examensarbetet behandlar frågeställningen hur en testrigg kan utformas för att testa planetväxlar avsedda för industrirobotar. Ett sekundärt mål för testriggen är att i så stor utsträckning som möjligt vara modulär för att kunna testa olika storlekar av planetväxlar i samma testrigg.

    Arbetet presenterar en testrigg för att undersöka växlarnas enskilda egenskaper så som lost motion, hysteres, vridglapp, böj- och vridstyvhet samt verkningsgrad och livslängd. Slutligen genomförs beräkningar och konstruktion av det framtagna konceptet.

    Slutsatsen av arbetet är att det sannolikt går att tillverka en modulär testrigg som klarar av att testa samtliga egenskaper hos planetväxlar.

    Denna studie undersöker möjligheten till värmeåtervinning och energieffektivisering av mindre varukylanläggningar genom en fallstudie.

    Värmeåtervinning visade sig mest lönsam, med hänsyn till energivinst, investeringskostnad samt återbetalningstid, från en anläggning med ett direkt expansionssystem. Anläggningen kompletteras med en kondensorväxlare och en sekundärkrets för ackumulering av värme i ackumulatortankar.

    Varvtalsregleringen visar sig vara mycket lönsam med hänsyn till behovet av tillförd elenergi, jämfört med en anläggning med konstant varvtal, även vid fullast. Dock minskar driftsäkerheten av anläggningen.

    Abstract [en]

    BNWAS was implemented in SOLAS, chapter V in 2009. Since that year, different types of ships have had different time schedules to install the system onboard. Navigational watch keepers have expressed both positive and negative attitudes towards the system and the operation of it. The purpose was to shed light upon how the implementetion of BNWAS has developed practically at the end users. The purpose of the study has been fulfilled through both qualitative and quantitative methods. Accident investigation reports both before and after the implementation were examined togheter with examinations and reviews of earlier studies regarding questions about implementation. This work was done to reach the goal of the study with a reliable result. These results implied that the implementation had encountered the same problems as earlier implementations (in the same area) had. They also showed that groundings of ships occured in the same way both before and after the implementation. The conclusions was that the implementation of BNWAS could have been developed more smoothly if the problems from earlier implementations had been accounted for. The groundings have however been reduced significantly since the implementation, whether it is due to the implementation or something else is still to be found out with a more comprehensive study.

    An ageing population is an emerging phenomenon in Europe and the rest of the world. Seniors face issues of social isolation and loneliness. Recently the research focus in ICT design has also turned to social media that can sustain seniors’ engagement and participation in social activities even when it is physically a challenge for them to leave home. Design and re-design of social media may support seniors’ engagement and participation in social activities, contributing to mitigate the feeling of loneliness and social isolation. In this paper, the focus is on understanding seniors’ social activities and their relationship to social media which may support their relationship. With Participatory Design – a reflective design approach, we have involved seniors in reflecting on possible future social media that can support and enrich social relationships. The participative methods used are cartographic mapping and future workshop, both appropriate for seniors to get involved in reflecting, thinking and making design alternatives together with other participants. We discuss how is to involve seniors in PD and what we need to know to design better future social media that can support seniors.

    Ett mycket högexploaterat förslag utformas där en egen identitet skapas åt Arenastaden i Växjö. Solens gång, bullerkällor, brandrisker, kulturhistoriska värden och många mål i kommunens visionsbild för Arenastaden väger in vid utformning av förslaget. Förslagets nya upplevelsevärden och andra kvalitéer analyseras med hjälp av en solstudie, bullerkällsundersökning och analysmetod av Kevin Lynch. Projektuppgiften är baserad på att en mycket hög exploatering drar ner på områdets upplevelsevärden. Då analysens resultat föll annorlunda erhölls ett annat resultat – metoden; att bygga på höjden besparar grönytor och de värden som mäts vid en Lynchanalys.

    Syftet med den är undersökningen har varit att skapa en förståelse för att kunna förklara de problem som uppstår vid en lagerflytt mellan produktion och distribution inom ett affärssystem. För att kunna uppnå syftet identifierades de teorier som skulle komma att behövas. Teorierna jämfördes med en nulägesbeskrivning på företaget för att se hur det fungerade i affärssystemet. Analyseringen utav teorierna och nuläget bidrog till att påpeka var problem kunde uppstå eller om de redan fanns inom systemet. Tack vare den analyserade informationen kunde slutligen slutsatser om rekommendationer påpekas för hur problemen skulle kunna motverkas, om inte motarbetas.

    Uppsatsen handlar om hur det går att förstå olika målgrupper på Instagram och hur influencers genom detta enklare kan anpassa sitt innehåll till det som sin målgrupp av följare vill se. Målgruppen som används i uppsatsen är tjejer i åldern 15-20 år från Sverige och genom en enkätundersökningen skapades en bättre förståelse i hur de använder sig av Instagram. Genom en analys av de konton personerna i enkätundersökningen följde på Instagram kunde en sammanställning på vad för typ av personer de följer är. Efter detta skapades ett verktyg för att kunna testa vilket visuellt innehåll målgruppen vill se och studien avslutades sedan med intervjuer både på målgruppen och några av de influencers som de följer.

    En omställning till ett mer hållbart samhälle pågår både nationellt och internationellt. Arbete läggs på att öka andelen förnyelsebara energikällor där solceller är en populär produkt. När effekttopparna och de förnyelsebara energikällorna ökar i det svenska stamnätet så skapas ett behov av att lagra stora mängder energi. Att lagra den mängden energi i batterier skulle bli kostsamt. Resultatet från utredningen tyder på att vätgas är ett lämpligt alternativ då omvandlingsprocesserna genererar både elektrisk och termisk energi. Komponenterna som används är ursprungligen från industrin vilket gör dom överdimensionerade för vanliga hushåll. Optimalt används vätgassystem i flerfarmilsbostäder där både den termiska energin och elektriska energin kan nyttjas.

    Abstract [en]

    With increasing clock-rates in CPUs coming to an end, a need for parallelization has emerged. This thesis proposes a dynamic purity analysis of objects, detecting independent execution paths that may be run in parallel. The analysis relies in speculative guesses and may be rolled back when proven wrong. It piggybags on an efficient replicating garbage collector integrated to JVM.

    The efficiency of the algorithms are shown in benchmark, and are comparable to the speed of state of the art garbage collectors in hotspot’s JVM.

    With this dynamic purity analysis now accessible in Java programs, the potential for automatic JIT-parallelization of pure methods is possible.

    On-the-fly Garbage Collectors (GCs) are the state-of-the-art concurrent GC algorithms today. Everything is done concurrently, but phases are separated by blocking handshakes. Hence, progress relies on the scheduler to let application threads (mutators) run into GC checkpoints to reply to the handshakes. For a non-blocking GC, these blocking handshakes need to be addressed. Therefore, we propose a new non-blocking handshake to replace previous blocking handshakes. It guarantees schedulingindependent operation level progress without blocking. It is scheduling independent but requires some other OS support. It allows bounded waiting for threads that are currently running on a processor, regardless of threads that are not running on a processor. We discuss this non-blocking handshake in two GC algorithms for stack scanning and copying objects. They pave way for a future completely non-blocking GC by solving hard open theory problems when OS support is permitted. The GC algorithms were integrated to the G1 GC of OpenJDK for Java. GC pause times were reduced to 12.5% compared to the original G1 on average in DaCapo. For a memory intense benchmark, latencies were reduced from 174 ms to 0.67 ms for the 99.99% percentile. The improved latency comes at a cost of 15% lower throughput.
