    Abstract [en]

    CAD objects are geometrical descriptions of physical scenes from the real world. Ray tracing is used to project the objects onto a pixel screen. A lit and a shadow zone are formed according to the direction of the incoming field (light) and the orientation of the pixel screen. The arc length along the surface of the object, from the shadow boundary to a point in the lit zone, is computed by means of numerical integration. The arclengths corresponding to two orthogonal directions that are aligned with the pixels on the pixel screen are computed and used for interpolation to obtain the arc length for all directions. A number of simulations for various CAD geometries are made using a ray-tracer implemented in FORTRAN 90.

    Abstract [sv]

    Idenna uppsats granskades de fem populäraste sociala nätverksspelen på den sociala nätverkstjänsten Facebook. Syftet var att genom att studera speldesignsmönster urskiljaeventuella skillnader mellan sociala nätverksspel och andra digitala spel. Dessa skillnader analyserades för att kontrollera om de kunde vara bidragande faktorer till sociala nätverksspels popularitet. Avslutningsvis skapades och lanserades två spelprototyper där den ena utrustades med några av de spelmönster som uppmärksammats i undersökningen, medan den andra spelprototypen helt saknade dessa spelmönster. De båda spelprototyperna lanserades samtidigt på den sociala nätverkstjänsten Facebook.

    Abstract [en]

    A number of newly developed numerical conformal mapping techniques are described. Their purpose is to achieve conformal mappings with good accuracy for regions bounded by smooth or piecewise smooth curves in which the boudary curve direction can be controllod, especially towards infinity in unbounded regions as for example waveguides.

    Most of the mappings are variants of the Schwarz-Christoffel mappings.

    Abstract [sv]

    Syftet med detta examensarbete är att undersöka vilka matematiska begrepp vi kan uppfatta att fyraåringar använder sig av under den fria leken inomhus på förskolan. Vi har också undersökt vilka leksituationer de befinner sig i när de använder sig av matematiska begrepp. I vår undersökning som är kvalitativ har vi använt oss av observationer.

    Resultaten visar att det finns goda möjligheter att ta del av vilka matematiska begrepp barn använder under den fria leken inomhus på förskolan och i vilka leksituationer dessa uppstår. Studien visar vidare att barnen i sin vardag på förskolan möter och använder sig av många matematiska begrepp. Resultaten visar matematiska begrepp inom följande kategorier: taluppfattning, ordningstal, former, mönster, symmetri, rumsuppfattning, tidsuppfattning, sortering och klassificering.

    Abstract [en]

    In modern times mobile devices are a increasing technology and malicious users are increasing as well. On a mobile device it often exist valuable private information that a malicious user is interested in and it often has lower security features implemented compared to computers. It is therefore important to be aware of the security risks that exist when using a mobile device in order to stay protected.In this thesis information about what security risks and attacks that are possible to execute towards a mobile device running Android will be presented. Possible attack scenarios are attacking the device itself, the communication between the device and a server and finally the server.

    Abstract [en]

    In this paper, we discuss how for self-adaptive systems someactivities that traditionally occur at development-time are moved to runtime. Responsibilities for these activities shift from software engineers tothe system itself, causing the traditional boundary between development time and run-time to blur. As a consequence, we argue how the traditional  software engineering process needs to be reconceptualized to distinguishvboth development-time and run-time activities, and to support designers in taking decisions on how to properly engineer such systems.Furthermore, we identify a number of challenges related to this required reconceptualization, and we propose initial ideas based on process modeling.We use the Software and Systems Process Engineering Meta-Model(SPEM) to specify which activities are meant to be performed o-line andon-line, and also the dependencies between them. The proposed models should capture information about the costs and benets of shifting activitiesto run-time, since such models should support software engineers in their decisions when they are engineering self-adaptive systems.

    Abstract [en]

    In a service-oriented setting, where services are composed to provide end user functionality, it is a challenge to find the service components with best-fit functionality and quality. A decision based on information mainly provided by service providers is inadequate as it cannot be trusted in general. In this paper, we discuss service compositions in an open market scenario where an automated best-fit service selection and composition is based on Service Level Achievements instead. Continuous monitoring updates the actual Service Level Achievements which can lead to dynamically changing compositions. Measurements of real life services exemplify the approach.

    Abstract [sv]

    Matematikboken har under många år varit ett hett ämne, både inom skolväsendet och media. De teorier som finns inom ämnet beskriver att matematikboken har en stor roll i dagens matematikundervisning. Därav blir vårt syfte att beskriva hur lärare ser på användningen av matematikboken som läromedel i sin undervisning och om det finns andra medel som kan ersätta matematikboken. Empirin har hämtats från fem semistrukturerade intervjuer av matematiklärare på mellanstadiet. Det har framkommit i resultatet att fleratlet av de intervjuade lärarna använder sig av matematikboken då de upplever att det ör en trygghet. Även tidsbristen inom skolan gör sig ständigt påmind. Denna tidsbrist leder till mindre användning av annat material i undervisningen. Detta gör att matematikboken blir ett komplement    i undervisningen. Matematikbokens fördelar och nackdelar ställs mot varandra och värderas utifrån teorier.

    Denna forskningsrapport undersöker hur nya teknologier kan verka som stöd för visuellt informationsutbyte och koordination för kreativa arbeten på distans. Arbetsgruppen genomförde denna undersökning för att kunna utbyta prototyper och annat visuellt material på regelbunden basis med en beställare av ett projekt som har sitt säte i New York. Projektet använde sig av en så kallad projektblogg som kanal för att förmedla utfört arbete samt för att föra en diskussion och ge feedback på det. Eftersom detta projekt skulle genomföras inom ramen för detta examensarbete valde arbetsgruppen att även undersöka hur examensarbetet skulle kunna koordineras genom projektbloggen. Dessa två undersökningar skedde genom en fallstudie under 8 av examensarbetets totala 10 veckor. Samtidigt som fallstudien genomfördes gjordes även en litteraturstudie som undersökte om det fanns teori som kunde stödja användandet av en projektblogg på detta sätt. Efter fallstudien utvärderades resultatet och genom intervjuer med användare och enkätundersökningar med en referensgrupp framkom det att projektbloggen hade upplevts vara ett mycket användbart hjälpmedel för att förmedla visuell information samt för att ge feedback för det ena projektet. Det andra projektet (examensarbetet) hade mindre behov av visuellt informationsutbyte då arbetet huvudsakligen bestod av längre textdokument. Eftersom dessa dokument skulle editeras fann användaren inte projektbloggen som ett optimalt verktyg för detta, bloggen verkade i det projektet mer som samlingsställe för dessa dokument, där användarna kunde hämta informationen för att sedan editera på traditionellt vis. Litteraturstudien som genomfördes visade att det fanns gott om stöd som pekade på att en projektblogg skulle vara användbar för koordinering av kreativa projekt som skedde på distans, och en av de mest intressanta möjligheterna som beskrevs inom ämnet computer supported collaborative work(CSCW) var att den nya tekniken att genomföra distansarbeten framförallt öppnade dörrar för de yrkesgrupper som hade behov av att visa upp grafiskt material, en yrkesgrupp som normalt blir väldigt belastad om arbetsgruppen inte är närvarande.

    Syftet med vår undersökning är att ta reda på vilken matematik som uppstår i barnens fria lek på förskolans gård och under vilka förutsättningar detta sker. Våra frågeställningar är: hur utnyttjar pedagogerna leksituationerna för att lyfta matematiken och vilken matematik kommer till uttryck i samtalen? Den metod vi använt under vår undersökning är observationer. I observationsschemat använde vi oss av kategorier som hade anknytning till våra frågeställningar. I vår undersökning fick vi fram att pedagogerna utnyttjade de olika lek situationerna som förekom på förskolans gård. I samtalet under leksituationerna lyftes matematiken men vid flertal tillfällen såg vi att interaktionen med barnen inte blev så långa.

    Elever med annat modersmål än svenska besitter oftast inte den språkliga kompetens som förväntas av dem när de når skolåldern. Detta blir problematiskt vid begreppsinlärningen i matematik. Syftet med denna studie är att beskriva hur verksamma lärare arbetar med begreppsinlärning i klasser som har elever med annat modersmål än svenska. I studien har verksamma lärare intervjuats och observerats med fokus på begreppsinlärning och på elever med annat modersmål än svenska. Resultatet av studien visar att de verksamma lärarna är överens om att i klasser med elever med annat modersmål än svenska går det inte utgå ifrån att alla elever förstår begrepp genom ord. Istället behöver dessa elever arbeta med flera olika sinnen för att skapa förståelse.

    Abstract [sv]

    En kvalitativ empirisk studie genomfördes för att belysa lärares erfarenheter av att använda standardalgoritmer och skriftliga huvudräkningsmetoder, i förhållande till elevers tekniska räknefärdigheter och matematiska kunskaper. I studien används semistrukturerade intervjuer för datainsamling och sammanlagt intervjuades sex lärare från mellanstadiet, högstadiet och gymnasiet. I studien framkommer bland annat att lärarna anser att elevernas tekniska räknefärdigheter har försämrats under de senaste åren. Lärarna anser dock att elevernas taluppfattning har blivit bättre, vilket de kopplar samman med användandet av skriftliga huvudräkningsmetoder. I studien framkommer också att lärarna anser att skriftliga huvudräkningsmetoder oftare ger fel resultat i beräkningar jämfört med standardalgoritmer.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study is to examine how companies can preform practical optimization of their marketing efforts in social media. Marketing in social media is something that many business leaders prioritize as it promotes a two-way communication, which in turn can lead to the possibility to reach out to more customers and provide successful profit effects.

    The report examines selected best-practices to find those recommendations that can be viewed as best suited for pracital optimization of a company’s website and profile-pages in social media. In order to define the recommendations, the study reviewed which recommendations were applied to real companies and what need and what knowledge small businesses have in the area. This was examined by analyzing five businesses and their activity in social media, which was followed up by an digital survey targeting small businesses. The result include a summary of appropriate recommendations to smaller companies that want to practically optimize their marketing efforts in social media.

    Abstract [en]

    This report describes the process and outcome of the research on how the power consumption is affected by deduplication in a ZFS file system. A large amount of redundant data exists in centralized storage systems that provide virtualized servers with storage space. Deduplication can be used to eliminate redundant data and give an improved utilization of available space in this kind of storage environment. The question that the study sought to answer was how a storage systems power consumption is affected by the extra workload deduplication introduces.The method used to investigate the problem was to perform five experiments with different types of scenarios. The difference in each scenario was that the data was written to a storage system with or without deduplication to later analyze the difference. Each scenario had a varied amount deduplicatable data during the experiments which would show if the load on disks changed.The results show that deduplication increases the power consumption and CPU load while the I/O-operations decrease. The analysis of the result shows that increasing the deduplicatable data also increases the power consumption and CPU load.

    Abstract [en]

    This report describes the work and studies carried out in the field of encryption and VPN. The focus is on how well the encryption algorithms Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) perform in a predetermined environment. The main focus has been to answer the question: Which of the encryption algorithms AES and 3DES requires less system resources. During the period  of studies, lectures and literature have several times claimed the 3DES algorithm to require more resources of encryption devices, compared to AES. This report tries to find if it is a fact and if so how big is the difference between the algorithms. To seek  answers to the questions, a number of experiments was performed. These experiments were intended to demonstrate or refute the above claims about 3DES and AES. The results of the performed experiments shows no major differences between 3DES and AES. This differs from what have been publicly accepted concerning facts regarding encryption algorithms 3DES and AES.

    Abstract [en]

    In the Swedish school today we have approximately 15% students with a foreign background.These students usually show lower results on National tests than the Swedish students inmathematics. The purpose of this study is to investigate how four students with immigrantbackground in high school deal with problem solving during a group discussion with the help of the Swedish language and how the language affects the problem solving. The students are born in Sweden but have parents who are born in a foreign country.

    The empirical data consists of an observation of a group discussion in mathematical problemsolving. The observation was analyzed based on Understanding - Plan - Implement – Evaluate.The pupils were interviewed to clarify what has emerged during the observation.

    At least two phenomena became obvious, firstly the students have problems with readingcomprehension and secondly they have problem with understanding the following concepts:expressions, variables, equations, and the equal sign.

    Our thesis has been performed in the company of Electrolux Laundry Systems (ELS) logistics department, Logistics Center Ljungby (LCL). Over the past year, the company has met setbacks during an IT/IS-project in the logistics department (LCL). The essay is thus aimed to describe and analyze why the IT/IS-project have stagnated. To achieve the purpose of the study we have applied a mainly qualitative approach in which the primary data is collected through methods such as interviews and participant observations while the secondary data is obtained by means of litterature and public documents.

     

    The study’s result consisted of participant observation at LCL, and interviews with co-workers at various levels in the organization. These have shown a lack of communication between employees at different levels in the company. Moreover, the result proved the company's shortcomings in designing the pilot study, e.g. deeply root the project, planning time, resources, costs and specify requirements. Our conclusions from this study are that effective communication between different levels of employees, and an accurately performed pilot study, are essential elements to give a project the right conditions.

    Samtidighetskonflikt, även känt under den engelska termen concurrency conflict, uppstår när två eller flera processer försöker uppdatera samma information i en databas vid samma tidpunkt. Processen som sparar ändringarna sist blir de ändringar som gäller och på så sätt kan viktigt information försvinna. Det finns flera tillvägagångssätt för att förhindra dessa problem med olika typer av samtidighetskontroller som kan ske i applikationen eller redan på databasnivå via lagrade procedurer.

    Metoden som används för att undersöka problemområdet har utgått från ett praktiskt arbete med en utökning av en existerande applikation, webbutiken RoyalDesign, skriven i ASP.NET (ASP-dotnet) Web Forms. Utökningen kräver samtidighetskontroll där användaren ska informeras av eventuella konflikter. Undersökningen avser att granska hur samtidighetskontroll implementeras och hanteras i applikationen. Resultatet av undersökningen visar databasen gör den största delen av arbetet, fångar samtidighetskonflikter samt kastar ett undantag som sedan applikationen fångar och hanterar.

    Abstract [en]

    With technology being advanced and many new teaching methods being implemented, considering virtual worlds for teaching is quite innovative and interesting. A virtual environment is an artificially constructed  representation of a natural or imagined environment. Virtual worlds consist of enactment for terrains, avatars, objects, textures, and other forms of digital assets. Many virtual worlds like Alpha World, Delta 3D, Second Life etc. are available today. An avatar can be defined as a computer user’s representation of him/her-self within the virtual environment.    

       Today, educational institutes have been using virtual worlds in various fields like designing user interfaces, nursing courses,  cooperate training, leadership training programmes. But certain aspects need to be examined thoroughly like how virtual spaces are influencing education, how students and teachers understand learning in virtual worlds while interacting through avatars where communication lacks body language and is limited to seeing, hearing and talking. Our study was conducted on a single course called Business Talking offered in Second Life by Linnaeus University.This course mainly emphasizes on technical and administrative presentations in English.     

       The main purpose of our study is to investigate how students and teachers understand learning in such environments and identifying the factors which are related to this. Relating to the purpose the research question “How do students and teachers perceive learning through avatar-based interaction in virtual world environments? ”  was investigated.     Pedagogy and general theories like constructivism, cognition, virtual world, synchronous versus asynchronous e-learning were used in our study.     A qualitative interpretative case study was conducted. Data was collected through observations and interviews. All the sessions of the course were observed and  interviews were made with five students and one teacher of the course.     The main results include students perceive more through avatar education as they get a sense of real feeling when compared  to other online education systems. Also, performing activities in different places of SL such as camp fire, near waterfalls, different cultural places etc. made them perceive well as they feel relaxed and less pressure. Second Life's environment helps to simulate real conditions and situations which help them to perceive more. But factors like usability of avatars, technical problems and getting adapted to the environment play an unfavourable role in perceiving learning.  Both the teachers and students have to be constructive and good pedagogical decisions have to be made when a problem arises. Another main result was that, lack of body language does effect in perceiving learning.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this thesis is to offer models and IT-supportive tools for external business intelligence for smaller to medium sized businesses. Larger businesses often have more funds and resources that continuously work to monitor the surrounding environment. However, due to the fact that small businesses lack the time and knowledge to investigate external business intelligence sufficiently, and lack appropriate funds to hire a consultant, as they are too expensive, smaller businesses rarely ever have access to these resources. Four models for external business intelligence were chosen and tested in workshops with two different companies, three different companies were approached and participated in interviews, and a study on useful IT-supporting tools for external business intelligence was conducted. The study has shown that the most suitable way to display models and IT-supportive tools is with a manual that would assist smaller to medium sized businesses with external business intelligence without the need to hire external assistance.

    Abstract [sv]

    Syftet med mitt arbete är att undersöka om ett informationsstöd med arbetsflöden kan underlätta förståelsen och inlärningen av ett informationssystem som används i verksamheten. Som fallstudie studeras avdelning ReEko och de anställdas användning av programmet Procapita. Under arbetets gång har jag växlat mellan empiri och teori, vilket medfört att jag lättare har kunnat se och förstå helheten av mitt problemområde. Ett informationsstöd har utvecklats och implementerats i syfte att undersöka om ett informationsstöd med ett klart beskrivet arbetsflöde underlättar förståelsen och inlärningen samtidigt som det kan ge användaren "hjälp till självhjälp". Jag har gjort en kvalitativundersökning där jag i min faktainsamling har använt mig av enkäter med öppna svarsalternativ. Resultatet av det implementerade informationsstödet utvärderades efter tre månader och visar att arbetsflöden som informationsstöd underlättar inlärning och förståelse av ett informationssystem som används i verksamheten.

    Att behöva fylla i namn, telefonnummer och andra uppgifter för att få ta del av en tjänst och börja använda den kallas registreringsformulär, och kan anses vara en utav de mindre roliga företeelserna på internet. Många tjänster använder sig dock av dessa vilket gör att besökare måste gå igenom ett extra steg för att få börja använda tjänsten i fråga. Registrering till tjänster är dock många gånger nödvändigt vilket leder fram till problemet som undersöks i denna rapport: Hur ska registreringsprocessen till en tjänst utformas för att få besökare att vilja registrera sig?

    I denna rapport har två prototyper av en webbaserad tjänst undersökts. En som baserar sig på Luke Wroblewskis (2008) teori om gradvist engagemang, vilket innebär att registreringen blandas in i användandet av tjänsten. Den andra prototypen använder sig av teorier som på olika sätt motiverar användaren att ta sig igenom registreringen. Genom tester och intervjuer har dessa prototyper undersökts och granskats.

    Vad jag har kommit fram till är att det inte finns någon generell lösning på problemet och att varken det en eller det andra föredras. Istället bör hänsyn tas bland annat till vad det är för tjänst som presenteras och komplexiteten hos denna samt vilka målgrupper man riktar sig mot. Detta för att skapa en registreringsprocess som mindre framstår som ett hinder mellan besökaren och tjänsten och därigenom få fler att registrera sig, något som är till nytta för både användare och organisationer bakom webbaserade tjänster.

    Volatility clustering is a stylized fact common in nance. Large changes in prices tend to cluster whereas small changes behave likewise. The higher the volatility of a market, the more risky it is said to be and vice versa . Below, we study volatility clustering using an agent-based model. This model looks at the reaction of agents as a result of the variation of asset prices. This is due to the irregular switching of agents between fundamentalist and chartist behaviors generating a time varying volatility. Switching depends on the performances of the various strategies. The expectations of the excess returns of the agents (fundamentalists and chartists) are heterogenous.

    In cognitive psychology, some experiments for games were reported, and they demonstrated that real players did not use the "rational strategy" provided by classical game theory and based on the notion of the Nasch equilibrium. This psychological phenomenon was called the disjunction effect. Recently, we proposed a model of decision making which can explain this effect ("irrationality" of players) Asano et al. (2010, 2011) [23,24]. Our model is based on the mathematical formalism of quantum mechanics, because psychological fluctuations inducing the irrationality are formally represented as quantum fluctuations Asano et al. (2011)[55]. In this paper, we reconsider the process of quantum-like decision-making more closely and redefine it as a well-defined quantum dynamics by using the concept of lifting channel, which is an important concept in quantum information theory. We also present numerical simulation for this quantum-like mental dynamics. It is non-Markovian by its nature. Stabilization to the steady state solution (determining subjective probabilities for decision making) is based on the collective effect of mental fluctuations collected in the working memory of a decision maker.     In this paper we apply the quantum-like (QL) approach to microbiology to present an operational description of the complex process of diauxie in Escherichia coil. We take as guaranteed that dynamics in cells is adaptive, i.e., it depends crucially on the microbiological context. This very general assumption is sufficient to appeal to quantum and more general QL probabilistic models. The next step is to find the operational representation - by operators in complex Hilbert space (as in quantum physics). To determine QL operators, we used the statistical data from Inada et al. (1996). To improve the QL-representation, we needed better experimental data. Corresponding experiments were recently done by two of the authors and in this paper we use these new data. In these data we found that biochemical context of precultivation of populations of E. coli plays a crucial role in E. coli preferences with respect to sugars. Hence, the form of the QL operator representing lactose operon activation also depends crucially on precultivation. One of our results is decomposition of the lactose operon activation operator to extract the factor determined by precultivation. The QL operational approach developed in this paper can be used not only for description of the process of diauxie in E. coli, but also other processes of gene expression.     We apply theory of open quantum systems to modeling of epigenetic evolution. This is an attempt to unify Darwinian and Lamarckian viewpoints on evolution on the basis of a quantum-like model. The state of uncertainty of cell's epigenome is resolved to a stable and inherited epigenetic configuration. This process of evolution and stabilization is described by the quantum master equation (the Gorini-Kossakowski-Sudarshan-Lindblad equation). The initial state of epigenome starting interaction with a new environment is represented as a pure quantum state. It evolves to a steady state solution of the quantum master equation given by a diagonal density matrix. The latter represents the state resulting from a series of epimutations induced by the environment. We use the information interpretation of the wave function which was elaborated by C. Fuchs and A. Zeilinger.

The proof is based on an extension of the Wiener-Stein estimates for the distribution function of the maximal function, obtained using a convenient family of dyadiccubes.     Abstract [sv]

    Syftet med examensarbetet är att undersöka om det är skillnad mellan undervisningen i matematik samt hur eleverna ser på sitt arbete på spetsutbildningen och ordinarie klasser på naturvetenskapsprogrammet. För att undersöka detta har eleverna fått besvara en enkät, deras matematiklärare har intervjuats och observationer har gjorts  i klasserna.

    Resultaten från denna undersökning visar att arbetssätt som till exempel grupparbeten, som främjar kommunikation, används oftare på spetsutbildningen än på det ordinarie naturvetenskapsprogrammet. Detta gäller även problemlösning som stimulerar reflektion och ger djupare förståelse för olika lösningar på matematiska problem. Eleverna på spetsutbildningen tror sig förstå sina lösningssätt medan eleverna på ordinarie naturvetenskapsprogrammet lär sig formler och lösningssätt utantill i högre utsträckning.

    We study a second order stochastic differential equation which was derived from a non-linear Schrödinger equation with non-linear damping and additive noise to describe the width of related wave solutions. We prove existence of solutions and discuss their long-time behaviour.

    Abstract [en]

    Discussion of the equal use and access to public e-services for people with disability does not present a coherent picture of Information Technology (IT) policies, public e-services and disability. Current studies usually take care of one or two of these subjects together, for example use and accessibility issues of public e-services from the viewpoints of users with disability, or IT policies and guidelines regarding use and access to public e-services for all people, or limitations of technology in supporting people with disability to equally use and access public e-services. In this study, in order to explore the equality of use and access to public e-services for people with disability, I will apply a framework proposed by Orlikowski (1992). On this account, I will explore the equal use and access to public e-services from three aspects of experiences and expectations of people with disability, public e-services and disability features available on them, and IT policies in combination.

    Abstract [sv]

    Syftet med vår undersökning var att ta reda på hur fyra förskolor arbetar med skogen som resurs för att utveckla kunskaper i rumsuppfattning. Vi använde oss av kvalitativa intervjuer och observationer för att få svar på våra tre frågeställningar. Resultatet visar att det sker ett lärande i rumsuppfattning i skogen. På två förskolor var lärarnas arbete med rumsuppfattning mycket medvetet och genomtänkt. På övriga förskolor var inlärningen av rumsuppfattning av mer slumpmässig karaktär. Samtliga lärare eftersöker mer kunskap i rumsuppfattning. Skogens miljö med dess skiftande terräng skapar en mångfald av möjligheter för lärarna att bidra till barnens kunskaper i rumsuppfattning.
