Affärsmodeller inom E-commerce: – Hur lyckas man som småföretagare på Internet2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

To start a company on the Internet is something that has appealed a lot of people during the last couple of years. Some of the companies have succeeded in their struggle but a lot of companies have failed to live out their ambition. This paper deals with the concept of e-commerce and aims to study whether or not the companies that has succeeded has made use of business models and what other factors that is important that you wont find in any written theory.

The paper also aims to study the concept of business models and what a business model consists of. To be able to do this research we have interviewed three different companies that are all active in e-commerce and have survived for at least three years. Two of the companies are classical web shops that sell products to their customers and the last one is a site with articles about hardware and IT business in general. The company that provides articles receives their incomes from advertising sales.

The results from these research has been compared to what the theory says to see if the theoretical business models is being used and to see if there are other factors that has impacted the success of the company.

In the result of the thesis it shows that there are factors where the studied companies have followed the theoretical approaches. But there are also other factors that are important to consider. In the theory part of the thesis the authors put together a research model based on other authors theories on what a small internet based company should think of. With the research model as a base the founders of three small internet based companies were interviewed. From these interviews the authors discovered that there are other important factors that the theory did not bring up. One of those factors is personal engagement which is strongly linked with the personal freedom that you get from running your own Internet based company. Other essential factors that were found are the development of distributor contacts and having a good customer focus.

ICTs and Citizen Participation: An Ethnography in the Municipality Level2016Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This master thesis describes an ethnographic research under the critical paradigm of thoughtin the use of ICTs to support citizen participation in the Municipality level. The purpose ofthe research was to acquire an understanding of the perspective of citizens on the topic andprovide suggestions for the employment of ICTs in citizen participation on the specificcontext. The research setting is located in a neighborhood of a Municipality in Athens, thecapital of Greece. Participants included randomly selected citizens, representatives fromcitizens groups which are active in the neighborhood and a representative of the Municipality. The data gathered in the research was qualitative and the methods were selected andconducted following the participatory design approach in correspondence with theethnographic methodology and critical paradigm. The methods used were interviews, probesand participatory observation. The data gathered pointed at similar concerns expressed by theparticipants mainly towards issues such as ignorance and indifference. Participants also hadthe opportunity to make suggestions on the topic of ICTs and citizen participation, which incombination with the results of a thematic analysis of the qualitative data were used to makesuggestions for future employment of ICTs in the Municipality. Through this directengagement with participants the research also hopes to contribute to the developing Greekdomestic literature on the topic, especially concerning the use of qualitative data.

SMS, en lösning på Apotekets väntetider?: Kan ett informationslogistiskt synsätt vara en bas för effektivisering?2006Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Nowadays long waiting time exists at the Pharmacy related to handle prescription.

In the beginning of the study we related on our own experiences and valuations. There for this report could be consider as a result of our interst.

The prescriptions constitute about three quarters of the Pharmacy´s sale. The size of the sales margin for these products is the trade margin that decider how the Pharmacy´s prin-ciple adjusts to the conditions of the market.

The Pharmacy intends to short the waiting time to max 5 minutes within 3 years. Further-more they will increase their opining and closing times. The Pharmacy goals is to increase the number of Pharmacy from 870 to 1000.

In our examination we notice that the customers we met adjusted their visit to a specific time when the waiting time is short, they also avoid Pharmacy´s that are greater loaded. In our study we calculate that the reduction of the number of repliers are totaly 7 %. The study of the questionnaire are the base of our thesis.

In a contribution to a discussion from Svenska Dagbladet the 8 th of the July 2005 the Pharmacy´s MD Stefan Carlsson point out that they will work harder to reduce their wait-ing times.

We have adjusted our SMS solution on the long waiting time at the Pharmacy after a study on the target group in the age of 16-74 years. The informations we have gathered cames from Statistiska Centralbyrån (SCB).

In our growing community there almost everyone owns a mobile phone, which contributes to a more frequent use of Short Message Service (SMS).

We were hoping that our responders would have the same opinion as we regarding the waiting time at the Pharmacy. In our study we saw that many of the responders considered that the waiting time were to long in general.

To handle the information and to handle information logistic aren’t new. It’s a further de-velopment of that which have been a central source of information in many enterprises. In many cases an effective information flow has a directly ruling part in the existents of the ac-tivity and its ability to conquer a global market.

Informationsspridning vid Introduktionsprocessen på ett Bemanningsföretag: En studie där informationsspridningen vid Introduktionsprocessen studerats.2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Using Virtual World in Education: The case of Second Life .2011Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

With technology being advanced and many new teaching methods being implemented, considering virtual worlds for teaching is quite innovative and interesting. A virtual environment is an artificially constructed  representation of a natural or imagined environment. Virtual worlds consist of enactment for terrains, avatars, objects, textures, and other forms of digital assets. Many virtual worlds like Alpha World, Delta 3D, Second Life etc. are available today. An avatar can be defined as a computer user’s representation of him/her-self within the virtual environment.

Today, educational institutes have been using virtual worlds in various fields like designing user interfaces, nursing courses,  cooperate training, leadership training programmes. But certain aspects need to be examined thoroughly like how virtual spaces are influencing education, how students and teachers understand learning in virtual worlds while interacting through avatars where communication lacks body language and is limited to seeing, hearing and talking. Our study was conducted on a single course called Business Talking offered in Second Life by Linnaeus University. This course mainly emphasizes on technical and administrative presentations in English.

The main purpose of our study is to investigate how students and teachers understand learning in such environments and identifying the factors which are related to this. Relating to the purpose the research question “How do students and teachers perceive learning through avatar-based interaction in virtual world environments? ”  was investigated.     Pedagogy and general theories like constructivism, cognition, virtual world, synchronous versus asynchronous e-learning were used in our study.     A qualitative interpretative case study was conducted. Data was collected through observations and interviews. All the sessions of the course were observed and  interviews were made with five students and one teacher of the course.     The main results include students perceive more through avatar education as they get a sense of real feeling when compared  to other online education systems. Also, performing activities in different places of SL such as camp fire, near waterfalls, different cultural places etc. made them perceive well as they feel relaxed and less pressure. Second Life's environment helps to simulate real conditions and situations which help them to perceive more. But factors like usability of avatars, technical problems and getting adapted to the environment play an unfavourable role in perceiving learning.  Both the teachers and students have to be constructive and good pedagogical decisions have to be made when a problem arises. Another main result was that, lack of body language does effect in perceiving learning.

Omvärldsanalys delight: En studie av hur små till medelstora företag kan få igång ett omvärldsanalysarbete2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis is to offer models and IT-supportive tools for external business intelligence for smaller to medium sized businesses. Larger businesses often have more funds and resources that continuously work to monitor the surrounding environment. However, due to the fact that small businesses lack the time and knowledge to investigate external business intelligence sufficiently, and lack appropriate funds to hire a consultant, as they are too expensive, smaller businesses rarely ever have access to these resources. Four models for external business intelligence were chosen and tested in workshops with two different companies, three different companies were approached and participated in interviews, and a study on useful IT-supporting tools for external business intelligence was conducted. The study has shown that the most suitable way to display models and IT-supportive tools is with a manual that would assist smaller to medium sized businesses with external business intelligence without the need to hire external assistance.

Motivera eller engagera: En studie om registreringsprocesser på webbaserade tjänster2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Att använda intranät som informationskälla: En studie kring medarbetares önskemål2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The rapid development of the possibilities of obtaining ubiquitous use of IT brings the digitalization of all processes, services and products to society at large. This development provides the opportunity of creating novel business models, reaching new market segments with novel products at cheaper/better and more targeted price levels. In this paper, we demonstrate the wide range of possibilities that are emerging with digitalization of a business environment in the e-health field, deriving from a process of digitalized business modelling. We discuss this approach by presenting a case of e-health in the form of an IoT solution for creating a safer home environment, and how it can be offered in different ways to its end users. The use of creative business modelling can thus be demonstrated to make emerging internet technologies available to broader segments of society. The ways that value networks interact and distribute incomes and costs create new methods of providing new services to new people, thus driving the digital transformation of society forward. The paper concludes with a set of principles for approaching creative business planning in a digitalized business reality with an e-health focus.

Patients Learning Process Supporting Change in Identities and Life Styles: A Heart Failure Self-care Scenario2019In: Information Systems and Technologies to Support Learning: Proceedings of EMENA-ISTL 2018 / [ed] Rocha Á., Serrhini M. (eds), Springer, 2019, p. 400-411Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper deals with the planning of eHealth systems in the area of chronic care from a patient-centered perspective. The specific area is heart failure (HF) and systems that support patients’ possibilities to be active learners during the care processes and facilitate learning as a process of life style changes. Becoming better at self-care implies changes in lifestyle and the creation of a new identity. A better understanding of this process is intended to create a base for developing appropriate information systems or information technology (IS/IT) support for learning processes. The objective of this paper is the development of a better understanding of the challenges of self-care within chronic illnesses with special focus on HF. As a result, we present a set of issues that could guide the choice and design of ICT-based support systems.

    Abstract [en]

Life expectancy is increasing and physical activity has been shown to be an effective to improve outcomes for patients with chronic conditions. However, there are a lot of barriers that make elderly people with chronic disease not being physical active. The purpose of this study is to explore the potential of using co-design as a method to implement physical activity in a social context for elderly organizations. With the aim to explore exergaming in a social setting, a co-design process was conducted using the experience-based design theory. The study also relied on studies using gaming as exercise method for heart failure patients. The method was participative observations that was documented as a storytelling. The project contained a number of key co-design actions; engaging users early; using the competition element; engaging patient organization and bringing the design into an existing social context; focus on self-organizing, not as a plan more focus an emerging property that may appear; practical testing element in the design made it possible to understand the multiple views of motivational factors. The project should allow for and encourage a multifaceted outcome, as this would reach and satisfy broader layers of people.

    Abstract [en]

Time can be characterized as the fourth dimension of the physical space-time continuum. Time is either a particular instant at which a structure or a process exists or occurs, or a period over which a structure endures or a process continues. From the human point of view, a concrete system can move in any direction on the spatial dimension, but only forward on the temporal dimension. GIS systems generally deal with static information. Static objects can be defined as objects that do not change in a short time period. In many situations, the information in GIS applications does change dynamically. Environmental problems, for example, have a significant dynamic component, which means that the conditions of the real system, at the time the decision is made, are the results of all the past history of the system and influence its subsequent behavior. Dynamicallity in a process may be possible to measure. The measure should include components such as size of change, frequencies of change, and time interval. The dynamicallity of a system should, in addition, include the need of change in representation (for example, how often must the screen be updated) and how time-critical decisions are. Time can be represented by a series of snapshots, and the shorter time periods between the snapshots, the more it imitates a continuous course of events. The time lapse is represented by a minimum of two pictures, up to complete animation. Real time and presentation time are not necessarily the same, as it is desirable to shorten very long time lapses (for example geological changes), and lengthen (prolong) rapid time lapses (such as explosions). We define presentation time as a relation between observation interval (time interval between observations) and picture rate (the rate of changing pictures on the screen). In this paper, some functions for handling dynamic information in GIS systems are presented.

GIS-application for visualization of streams1994In: Computers, Environment and Urban Systems, ISSN 0198-9715, E-ISSN 1873-7587, Vol. 18, no 2, p. 103-109Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Up to now, GIS systems have been used to produce maps. When using these maps, for example, to look at a road section, you are limited to one map-sheet at a time with a specific scale. A common application, for example, in communities and electricity companies, is to include networks such as water pipes, sewage systems, and electric mains. As the lines cross map-sheet borders, it has been necessary to put the map-sheets together. It is useful for communities to have up-to-date and accurate information about water pipes, to be able to locate leaks and to know where to cut off the lines and to know which consumers are affected, when repairing. In the future, GIS systems could also be used as decision and planning support. To be able to use GIS systems for this purpose, it is necessary to improve techniques for visualization of streams (direction and strength) over time. This paper describes a project that aims to develop and evaluate user interfaces for visualization of all kinds of streams and to improve and evaluate methods and CASE tools for development of GIS applications.

Exploring Equality of Use and Access to Public E-services for People with Disability: A Study of Disability, Public e-services and IT Policies2012Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 80 credits / 120 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Discussion of the equal use and access to public e-services for people with disability does not present a coherent picture of Information Technology (IT) policies, public e-services and disability. Current studies usually take care of one or two of these subjects together, for example use and accessibility issues of public e-services from the viewpoints of users with disability, or IT policies and guidelines regarding use and access to public e-services for all people, or limitations of technology in supporting people with disability to equally use and access public e-services. In this study, in order to explore the equality of use and access to public e-services for people with disability, I will apply a framework proposed by Orlikowski (1992). On this account, I will explore the equal use and access to public e-services from three aspects of experiences and expectations of people with disability, public e-services and disability features available on them, and IT policies in combination.

Vad har du på menyn?: Designriktlinjer för naturliga interaktioner och mobilitet i en stationär miljö2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Today many companies have intranet failing to meet the users need and the most frequent complaint is that users do not find what they are looking for. This leads companies to lose both time and money on having employees that are unable to utilize the system in a sufficient manner, which often leads to expensive educational costs and loss of productivity. The primary reason that information is not found is that there is a lack of a consistent navigation tool that clearly indicates where the user should go to find what he/she is looking for. Design and structure in an interface plays a large role when it comes to how users understand and interpret an interface. However, the difficulty is that it tends to be visually disruptive and provide a cognitive load. Currently are a strong development of mobile devices taking place and questions are raised regarding how these interfaces can be optimized to make it easier for the user. Especially, when it comes to the mobile context and the limitations it causes. To make it easier are designers advised to develop natural interactions which are supposed to ease the cognitive load. This study therefore explores how design principles stemming from natural interactions, together with the mobility, affect the usability and ease of use for work in a desktop environment. The study has been conducted upon request of CLX Networks, a company that provide solutions for, among others, sms, voice and data. The assignment has entailed suggestions of improvements of the company’s intranet menu, which has been considered as inadequate by CLX.

In this study, a user test of CLX’s current intranet menu was performed as well as five interviews with employees that work and use the system. The interviews concerned the topics of findability, actability, usability and mobile usability. Continuously was a card sorting performed to let the informants themselves visualize a proposed menu. The results from the empirical investigation were used to create an interactive prototype. Design principles from findability, actability, usability and natural interactions have been utilized in the creation of the new menu.

Based on the investigations performed in this study is it possible to conclude that design principles from natural interactions and the mobility have a positive influence on ease of use concerning the menu in the graphical interface in a desktop environment. The study also confirms that a combination of the two viewpoints, natural interactions and desktop paradigm that facilitate the usage and cognitive load, which previously was troublesome for the employees.

    Abstract [en]

The city of Kalmar has a desire that their 3D maps of the city should come to a greater use and get residents more involved in Kalmar city. The purpose of this report is to show one way to work with these 3D maps when it comes to presenting information about Kalmar for its residents and tourists in a specific area.  The report also includes information about advantages and disadvantages with the use of 2D and 3D maps in different environments. Various reports and other sources indicate an interest in 3D and a use for this, but even that 2D is still seen as a natural way to read a map. By collecting information from relevant literature, interviews and user testing, the group has obtained sufficient background information to present the results of a web site, where the visitor can navigate in both 2D and 3D in a specific area of Kalmar. User tests and surveys have been conducted in two rounds and the web site has been revised after their results.

ERP-implementation och processkartläggning: En studie om implementering av ett ERP-syste, och vilka fördelar en processkartläggning kan ge för kravställandet.2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

To implement an ERP-system is not an easy process. The success of the implementation depend on many different variables. The most important one is perhaps the requirement process, to define what the organization wants and expects from the system. In this study, the advantages of a process mapping are examined, in relation to the phase where the requirements are expressed in an ERP-implementation. The conclusion is that a process mapping generates an increased communication with the supplier of the ERP-system, hence the business knows their processes and thereby what they want from the system. From this knowledge, the supplier can design the system more closely to the organizational needs.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis was to identify design principles for use at migrations of stationary games to Apple’s iPhone. Literature studies, heuristic evaluation, survey and in-depth interviews were used as methods. The results showed that especially input methods, lack of feedback and screen size are problematic ares in migrated games. Conclusions include that games should never be migrated exactly like the stationary versions, new input methods in mobile phones should be utilized in a better way and it should be considered if some games are suitable to be migrated at all depending on genre.

How Does CBM Function in the Real World?2016In: MFPT 2015 and ISA’s 61st International Instrumentation Symposium, At Dayton. Ohio, 2016Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Manufacturing organizations are under increasing pressure to meet customer and corporate demands by implementing improved maintenance initiatives to reduce costs, improve equipment availability, and protect against failure of critical equipment. Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) is widely accepted and used as a financially effective maintenance strategy which is used to anticipate equipment or component failure. Recent technological advances in component sensitivities, size reductions, and most importantly, cost has opened up an entirely new area of diagnostics. The economic benefit of CBM is achieved if the approach to maintenance is applied to the right equipment and through appropriate tools. In particular the degradation behavior of the equipment needs to be understood to correctly deploy a CBM approach and specific actions to specific equipment or components. Failure modes can be applied to support and optimise the decision making process. Using failure modes can be an efficient low-risk tool process for the prevention of problems, and is referred to as a deductive technique that consists of failure identification in each component. However, the literature is limited regarding the importance and the role of various failure models in different industrial sectors. Thus, if failure models are not known, understood and utilised correctly the use of CBM will not lead to financial benefits. The paper examines the relationship between the failure patterns observed in industrial maintenance practice and the corresponding impact on adoption and potential benefits of Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM). The paper will explain the need for accurate and up to date equipment information to support the correct maintenance approach. The paper suggests the importance of further supporting such investments by appropriately addressing the need to collect relevant data as a basis upon which to make the right decisions.

Agent-based Interface Approach with Activity Theory: Human-Computer interaction in diabetic health care system2006Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

IMIS (Integrated Mobile Information System for Diabetic Healthcare) aims at providing healthcare on both stationary and mobile platform, which is based on Engström’s triangle model in Activity Theory. It focuses on the need for communication and information accessibility between care-providers and their shared patients. Based on the identified need in the target area, IMIS has decided to construct a network-based communication system to support communication and accessibility to patients’ journal. Since the system integrates various roles from the heath care organization, it is a challenge to provide a useful software program to the group members. In order to facilitate the application and enhance the Human-Computer interaction of the system, agent technology is applied to increase the flexibility factor so that the system could be self-adapted to a wider range group of users.

Besides, this thesis also introduces the approach of using social-psychology — Activity theory in HCI, and discuss the integration of these different disciplines. The Multi-agents System is applied with Gaia methodology from micro perspectives. From the macro perspective Activity theory constructs the coordination mechanism of the different agents. A prototype is applied based on the different model of our research.

Model-Driven Management of Services2010In: 2010 IEEE 8th European Conference on Web Services (ECOWS), IEEE Press, 2010, p. 147-154Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Applications are increasingly composed of remote services provided by independent parties. This distributed ownership makes it problematic to measure and control quality of service indicators.Management activities must become an integral part of the system's development process, from requirements elicitation, where users identify the quality dimensions of interest, to the implementation, where the actual composition must be paired with suitable means for its run-time management. This paper presents MDMS (Model-Driven Management of Services), a model-driven approach for engineering manageable services. The approach supports the explicit modeling of quality dimensions, management objectives, and key performance indicators, and the transformations required to exploit these concepts at runtime. The methodology is supported by ECo Ware, an innovative prototype framework for the deployment and operation of managed services.

    Abstract [en]

A common term in today’s modern businesses is Software packaged

system. These system’s are used to make the business operations more

efficient thus the enterprises more competitive on the marketplace.

But there are still issues regarding the adaptation of these system’s to the specific enterprise that must be resolved. Since the supply of software packages is very high, it is hard for the consumer to find the right kind of system that will fully satisfy company’s requirements.

One of the major risks with acquiring these software packaged systems

is that the customer pays too much money for a system with functions

that are not necessary for the customer business needs. In order avoid

this; the customer must make thorough analysis of their business

operations before buying and implementing these kinds of systems.

There are many obtainable methods that the customer can apply. In this

thesis, we have accounted for two of these methods, namely, the SIV-method and the VFS-model. These methods describe different steps that the customer must consider before implementing a software packaged system.

One of the significant steps in these methods is the adaptation process of software packaged systems. A matter we believe is unexplored and therefore further research is required on the subject.

Processen vid anskaffning av standardsystem: I enlighet med SIV - metoden2006Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The problems that occur when obtaining or realising Standardsytem within an organisation,

can be exhaustive if the enterprise rushes to a desicion. Furthermore, this practical

application could be a burden instead of an opportunity. The method for obtaining realising

a standardsystem is an area that has not been studied to any greater extents. In the present,

the SIV-method (SIV: Standardsystem in business) is a general method used in the

relization of a standardsystem. The SIV-method has been developed by amongst others,

Anders G. Nilsson, in a project assigned by the V institute in Stockholm, Sweden. The

reason for this thesis is that the SIV-method is not considered complete and therefore we

will attempt to investigate this in a practical case. The purpose of this thesis is to test the

Siv-method in an organisations process for acquiring a standardsystem.

This research is co-operated in with the enterprise of Koneo. That is in need of a

standardsytem that concerns and operates the intergration of a Customer Relation

Managment system, CRM- system. After accomplishing our project we can establish that

SIV-method is useful, by means of that it takes into consideration main parts of the process

    when obtaining a standardsystem.

Hur organisationer påverkas när medarbetare ersätts med Robotic Process Automation: En rapport om hur RPA-robotar påverkar verksamhetsutvecklingen och den implicita kunskapen2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The technology has always been affecting society while technological solutions are rapidly developing, there information gets handled faster than ever. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is a robot that performs repetitive tasks that gets handled exactly the same way each time, that normally is taken care of by humans. When it comes to implicit knowledge, it’s often built up by experience and is difficult to communicate and explain to others. This study investigate how Robotic Process Automation affect the business development and the implicit knowledge, that can’t be communicated inside organizations. Our empirical data were collected by using literary sources relevant to this study and research, as well as a qualitative study, which included five organisations: Scania CV AB, OKQ8, Stena Line, Södra and Uddevalla kommun. One disadvantage with the RPA is that they do not meet their full capacity without having internet connection, which Södra have noticed. The business development is therefore most positively affected by the implementation of RPA. Results of our empirical shows that the implicit knowledge is relatively affected by the replacement of humans to RPA-robots. This is because all organisations has been taking act to transfer all of the implicit knowledge explicitly so that the knowledge stays within the business.

    Abstract [en]

This report describes three different time aspects of electronic commerce, then, now and a prediction about what could happen in the future with electronic commerce. The collection of information for the theoretical references has been done via literature studies within the subject, partly with course material but also with, for me, new literature. Beside the theoretical references, I also have intervjued a couple of respondents at the company Bergman & Beving Services to make an empirical study within the chosen subject. The purpose is that through a comparison between theory and empiri try to survey how electronic com-merce has looked until now, and make a prediction about what could happen in the future.

The conclusions that I have made after the study, is that during the 1970’s it was expensive and complicated for companies to begin with electronic commerce. This means that the electronic commerce during this time mostly was adjusted for larger companies. Later on standards where created for how the data transfer would be carried out, which made the process simpler. The breakthrough that made smaller companies able to apply the electronic commerce came with HTML and the Internet. Even consumers at this point began to realize what potential the Internet had. During the late 1990’s the usage of electronic commerce fell when the dotcom-bubble broke down. One of the factors which contributed to the breakdown was that companies without a working business model tried to make business using the Internet.

The present development of electronic commerce is however done in a healthier way. Studies have been made with the conclusion that about 25% of the Swedish companies turnover was based on electronic commerce. Nevertheless there are wide gaps between different industries. The logistic industry is the most developing industry within electronic commerce.

The future electronic commerce is mostly based on different kinds of integrations. For example, vendor managed inventories are expected to control entire supply chains which is called Network Managed Supply. Other kinds of integrations is integrations within the own organisation that will maximize the effects of using integrations. This can happen by using the base that is built today. Concerning standards in the future, XML-based standards seem to become the most frequently used standard. EDIFACT is in comparison with XML-based standards to expensive and to complicated to implement, which points to the fact that a change of generations is probably about to happen. One thing that can be problem-atic considering electronic commerce, is managing the information. That is why it is important to have a well working information logistics.

Smarter technologies towards Greener Homes: A Human-Centred Approach2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Advances in technology continuously reshape habits, behaviours and interactions at individual, organisational and societal levels. Information and Communication technology (ICT) is pervasive, and is the bearer of crucial information, analysis and responses to the recipient. It assists in processes such as understanding phenomena and taking appropriate action. It also provides communication means, platforms and tools to interact with one another.

In the United Kingdom’s (UK) Energy industry, smart meters are currently being deployed by energy suppliers to their customers. These are presented as a revolutionary device that supports a more efficient energy use at home and/or in the workplace, and helps customers save on their energy bill and reduce carbon footprint.

Using interpretivist phenomenological Human-centred qualitative research, The thesis work explores the impact of using smart meter devices, as perceived by UK customers, in helping to monitor, use and manage energy consumption at home. Also, the study looks into alternative technology and customers’ expectations in the context of energy efficiency. And finally, the principles of a design is presented to respond to customers demands and desires. Passive participant observation, Future workshop and inspiration cards session are the methods and techniques applied in this research to collect  data.

The findings constitute good grounds for individual consumers to be aware of the opportunities made available by alternative technology. At organisational level it is a basis for energy suppliers to change their behaviour towards a changing demand and adapt by switching their core business to supplying Information and analysis as well as energy efficiency management solutions. At societal level government bodies and regulating agencies can tackle sustainability and green energy issues by controlling the profit driven character of privatised energy companies and responding to real market demand as perceived by consumers.

Emerging technologies present opportunities that have the capabilities of breaking the status quo of energy supply industry in the UK as well as the rest of world.

The value of this research is to show customers’ perceived reality and expectations, as well as opportunities to change the way energy is supplied and consumed.

Revidering av informationssäkerhetspolicy: - En kvalitativ studie av svenska kommuner2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Lean Healthcare - Hur införande av Lean påverkat informationsförsörjning inom ett kliniskt mikrosystem2011Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The study was intended to investigate the impact users have on system innovation in a system development project. As user involvement is done daily through (among others) user tests, it was interesting to investigate how user’s feedback and ideas affect innovation in a system development project. Companies today face great challenges of getting the user to believe in the change that is made in a system. What can be seen as a problem is that users aren’t always ready for the change that innovation entails. To investigate how users affect innovation in a system development projects, interviews have been conducted with people who have knowledge and experience of user involvement. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology model will be used to highlight the elements that affect users’ attitudes towards changes. The material that has been collected has been analyzed and discussed in order to answer the problem. Users affect system innovation by expressing negativity or skepticism against changes. The reason may be that users aren’t ready for the change that a company wants to implement. This can lead to the impediment of innovation in a system development project. An important aspect to include is the company’s domain expertise. If the company believes that the change should be implemented to be innovative, it’s important to communicate with the users and make them understand why the change occurs. An individual user can influence a system’s innovation if the company allows it, while a number of users can affect to a greater extent if they experience the same problem with an innovative change.

    Abstract [en]

Internal dissemination of information is the primary resource for a functional organization. Transformation and dissemination of information is performed through communication where information progress between individuals and systems. Individuals knowledge are described as individuals that will interpret identical information variously, which results into information loss.

A qualitative case study has been conducted with the perspective of exploring the interior horizontal information dissemination in order to create an understanding of how these informations perceived and applied in organizations.

This study is focused on horizontal dissemination through SharePoint and e-mail and is expected to create understandning if the information that may result the work related effects.

Since this study is restricted to the receivers and how they perceive and apply information, the empirical study represents that SharePoint is a valuable source of information and that it is perceived to be efficient compared with e-mail. Dissemination of information through email are used extensively and abundant of these materials are published daily at SharePoint, which results in loss of information.

Transmission Model was primary used in order to get an understanding for how information transfers from a transmitter to a reciver. Sense Making Theory was applied as a supplement to the Transmission model to increase an perceptive of how the receiver perceives the transferred data. Information Systems Success Model based to obtain a perspective and an understanding for how a message is delivered by an electronic channel beyond and if the information was applied after it was received by the recipient.

Tillit till automatiserade tester: En kvalitativ studie på en agil systemutvecklingsmiljö2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Today, an increasing number of companies’ uses agile system development which means that the development work is done in short iterations. Short iterations means that there is much to be done in a short time both in development and testing. To keep up with the testing it is required to use automated testing. Automated tests are a type of automation that in itself is a problematic area because people fail to rely on automation. If people have a lack of trust in automated testing it will cause them to still use manual testing, which will make the value of automating tests fail.

The purpose of this paper is to respond to how people ́s trust in automated testing is affected based on knowledge of automated testing, trust in the person creating automated tests and feedback from automated testing. A qualitative study and interviews have been conducted to answer the question. The survey has been conducted on a research company that delivers finance software and internet solutions to companies and accountancy firms.

The result of the empirical survey shows that knowledge of automated testing, trust in the person who creates automated testing and feedback from the automated tests are aspects that affect people's trust in automated testing.

Lack of knowledge affects people ́s trust in automated testing in a way that leads to that people either create an overtrust or mistrust to the automated tests. People that have knowledge of automated tests feels trust in the tests. To have trust in the person that creates automated tests affects people's trust in that way that people feel more trust in automated testing if they know who the person is, feel the confidence to the person and his or her knowledge. Feedback from automated testing affects people's trust when no-feedback is taking place. This leads to that they do not know which tests there is and what they do. This means that people do not trust them.

Ett steg närmre användbarhet: Identifiering av de viktigaste designprinciperna för ett ärendehanteringssystem.2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The world has become more digital and people have become more dependent on that technology always is accessible. Businesses are using technology to perform tasks more efficient and less costly. For information systems to facilitate the user, the systems must be useful. To achieve usability, design principles have been created. These principles are guidelines or directives to achieve a good design. When problems arise for a user, these users often must get in touch with knowledgeable IT-staff. The contact between user and IT-staff usually occurs via case management systems.

The purpose of the study was to identify design principles that from the user's perspective are the most important for a case management system to achieve usability. The study was limited to examining Nielsen's ten heuristic design principles.

The study was based on a deductive approach with a qualitative data collection method. Interviews were conducted on a case business to collect the views of users of a case management system. Width and variation was the method used for the selection of informants as it was of interest that the informants had different previous knowledge. The purpose of the empirical data was to identify important characteristics to achieve usability for a case management system. With this information, it was then possible to examine how well the design principles achieve these characteristics. The study also examined the users’ opinions about specific design principles, which also contributed to the results.

The result of the study included four characteristics which the users felt should be met to achieve usability. Findability, navigability, information structure and simplicity are the characteristics users thought should be met to achieve usability. Furthermore, when design principles were evaluated, four principles emerged that users considered to be the most important, link between system and reality, flexibility and efficiency of usage, user control and freedom, compliance and standard, and to recognize themselves rather than remembering. These principles were those who were considered to answer the usability characteristics best.

Information Inadequacy in Nuclear Power Plant Accidents2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to compare the cause of the, to date, three onlycommercial nuclear power plant accidents. These are very complex incidents, which have dire impact on society and the environment and therefore benefitfrom further investigation, if there lays a possibility of identifying factors thatcould prevent further accidents in the future. In order to investigate this theactions and decisions that lead up to each nuclear meltdown was identified andcompared. The investigation was based on a qualitative study on three cases of nuclearmeltdown accidents. They are based on text analysis of official reports anddocumentaries on the subject. The theoretical background for this study wasKajtazi’s (2011) work on Information Inadequacy. The study was limited to theevents leading up to the accidents and do not include activities afterwards. The study shows that each case had different underlying reasons. It alsoshows that we seem to have learned something from our previous mistakes, andacted on them accordingly. From the Fukushima Daiichi accident we canrecommend that organizations in charge should take early warnings seriouslyand act upon them as soon as they are presented.

Att lyckas med en kvalitetsförändring: En fallstudie på OCS i Borås2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Change is a natural state for both people and institutions, but as the surrounding world moves faster it becomes important to quickly be able to adjust to new conditions. Customers’ force of negotiation increases as the global competition grows. One factor that becomes more vital to customers is the amount of quality standard a company can offer them. Several factors are essential if a work of change will be considered a successful investment, where the change can be perceived in both a positive and negative way for an employee. Many organizations have attempted a mayor structural change and failed.

Overhead Conveyor Systems (OCS) is a company that develops and installs internal transport systems in Borås. They develop a Quality Management System in line with the international standard of ISO 9001:2000. The question is how the management at OCS will accomplish a work of change with consideration to the employee’s demands and at the same time fulfills the standard requirements. The objectives of this report are to investigate the user demands of a Quality Management System in a defined case as well as indicate important factors for a successful work of change.

A qualitative approach has been used with a deductive research perspective. Different theoretical aspects have been used, which together with the standard requirements of ISO constituted the foundation for the paper. This was followed by an empirical investigation, where the primary information came from a small amount of employees at OCS, who where selected and interviewed.

In the description of the present situation the results of the interviews are presented. The employees described how certain activities are performed at the current time. They expressed their demands and what they feel is lacking. The answers from the interviews where compared to questionnaires from a previous organization analysis, in order to understand the importance of the mentioned demands. The results show that a number of the demands made in the previous questionnaire are still valid today.

In the analysis the results where compared to aforementioned theoretical aspects and the standard requirements. The analysis shows distinct demands in all areas of the standard requirement. Furthermore the respondents request more participation during the process of change, which will generate a higher extent of motivation and engagement. The conclusion illustrates that the crucial factors to a successful work of change, from an employee’s perspective, are participation, access to information, dialogue between the parties concerned and leadership.

    Abstract [en]

Location-based services (LBS) contains of services helping users of finding positions of themselves or other objects. LBS applications can present information in varies types of ways, these could be threw speech, text, geographic symbols, photos etc. Not many studies have been done to examine the aspects of LBS communication and there is a demand for user and context centered mapping.

The purpose of this report is to present a model for the development of user and context based services. The model will give guide lines of recommendations when implementing LBS. The different technologies that support LBS will also be noticed. I will also discuss if LBS can be supported of privacy. This thesis will include discussions on laws when dealing with LBS. Complications of implementing the technique will be addressed.

For this study I will use Järvinens (2004) methodology guidelines from the book “On research methods”.

In the conclusion you can read distinguish guide lines that I have set up for development of LBS. To answer the problem formulation stated earlier I have made a division of three aspects that define usage of LBS: Standardization, usability and privacy.

Informationsmottagning via extranät: En fallstudie av Subaru Nordic ABs extranätsanvändare2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This bachelor thesis deals with the subject information receiving via an extranet. Like people an information channel can have communication problems too. The background of the study is that there is a lack of information receiving by the users of Subaru Nordics extranet.

The aim of this study is to find out what factors that influence the information received through Subaru Nordics extranet by doing a survey. The methodology used in the study is a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods where the data was collected through an online survey, which was sent to Subaru Nordics extranet users. The study has been made on the research company Subaru Nordic, which is the general agent for the car brand Subaru in the Nordic and Baltic countries.

We identified six factors that affect the information received via an extranet. The first factor is the need of information, indicating that companies using extranets as an information channel should update their information receivers about their work related activities so they can accomplish their work in the best way. The second factor is to customize the information to the receiver, where it appeared that companies should send out information tailored to the receivers work. The third factor is to adapt information to the situation where we could conclude that companies should spread out the information they share. Using multiple channels of information is the fourth factor, and the conclusion is that using an additional information channel for information sharing is effective. The fifth factor is to make information available, which stated that companies should have clear categories for users to find information they need in a convenient way. The sixth and final factor is to customize the headings of the information that is sent and therefore companies should put great emphasis on the headings to make the information receiver interested to access the information.

Gender and IT Goes Second Millennium2006In: E-CAP 2006 European Computing and Philosophy Conference, 2006Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Where does feminist research on gender and IT stand today? What are the possibilities now and for the future? How does today’s research both build on and break with earlier approaches? In this article, we make a journey, where the starting point is taken in re-visiting two positions, liberal feminism and radical feminism, in the history of gender and (information) technology. We make a historical exposé to highlight some of the questions feminist technology research has been engaged in, in order to relate, inspire, challenge and partly also provoke future research. We then link these approaches to our own position in feminist technoscience research. This perspective opens up the world of information technology as a world of networks, relations, and negotiations going on within localised and situated practices, where IT and gender are continuously co-constructing each other. Feminist technoscience research challenges much of the present understandings, interpretations and even experiences of information technology and it demands re-thinking the foundations of computing. We discuss concepts and figurations developed within feminist technoscience research, that encourage us to imagine, think and do things differently, and we ask: “How do we make a difference?”

Hur organisationers interna informella kommunikation förändras vid snabb tillväx: En fallstudie på operativa chefers uppfattning av det dagliga informationsflödet2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In order to reach accurate information to the right person on time, an organization's communication needs to work. Communication is therefore fundamental in order to create efficiency and is a contributing factor to their development curve. An organization's communication is usually divided into two different types; formal and informal communication.

This study aims to investigate how internal informal communication works for operational units in an organization that is part of a larger network, as well as investigating the difficulties that arise in connection with changes. This in turn can create a greater understanding of growing organizations' communication problems.

An abductive method has been used to achieve the purpose of the study and a case study has been conducted to obtain deeper information. Qualitative semi- structured interviews have been conducted to understand the respondents' story and get more nuanced information.

The results of the study clarify that the theory and practice are consistent in cases where informal communication causes difficulties as well as what could make it more efficient. The result shows that information overflow and ignorance about the choice of communication channel adversely affect communication. Also, difficulty adjusting the message to the recipient. Furthermore, the perception of the advantages of informal communication is united in literature, however, the respondents point out that perception differs in practice.

The conclusion describes the importance of paying attention to growing organizations' internal communications and information flows. The study shows that a communication strategy can contribute to more efficient communication flow for growing organizations. The conclusion also includes recommendations for organizations in growing networks, developed by comparing previous research and theories with the result.

Värdeskapande faktorer med en informationshanteringsplattform genom Internet of Things: En fallstudie med fokus på förebyggande underhåll i en producerande verksamhet2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Internet of Things enables the creation of “smart environments”, where it is possible to exchange information between objects. This can lead to increased efficiency and automatization in different ways, for example in our homes and for business operations. An area where the interest for this technology is immense is in the industrial sector, and is referred to as Industry 4.0. For this area, the adoption of this technology is expected to, for example, improve efficiency and to predict maintenance, an approach known as e-maintenance. This new technology implies modification and development of business models and enables different types of information systems based on these. To be able to generate value for businesses when using an information management platform, variables that create value should be investigated.

The purpose of this study is to examine value-adding variables, with aspects from Delone & McLean’s Information System Success Model (2003), for a specific business case by using an information management platform through Internet of Things and sensors in their operations. This study has been carried out as a case study with one of Sigma Technology’s clients, which this study was made in collaboration with. This study was carried out with an abductive research approach and a qualitative method. To examine the opinions of the company’s employees, individual, semi-structured interview was conducted. The interviews was analyzed and compared with Delone & McLean's Information Systems Success Model, to identify resemblance or divergence.

The findings in this study show that the significant variables for value to be created are simplicity, information structure, accessibility and reliability. These factors are considered to be especially important, according to the respondents. Findings also show that the study is mostly consistent with the theoretical model, however, some variance has been discovered and some modifications of the model are presented. A dimension that the respondents did not consider equally important for value creation, and thus deviated from the theoretical framework, is service quality. Based on the significant factors presented in the study, the proposal is to further develop the model by adding an additional dimension, interaction quality, for the reason that the analysis of the value creating factors in this study describes this need.

Social IT support kontra traditionell IT support: Användarens syn på att söka IT support via sociala medier2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]
