    Abstract [en]

    Abstract:

The purpose with this study was to explore different peoples preconceived opinions of three psychiatric diagnoses; Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), schizophrenia and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). These designations are accompanied by a definite social stigma, which could have profound effects on a person diagnosed with either disorder. These designations carry the risk of excluding and labelling individuals and could provoke a feeling of abnormality and potentially segregate them from the Community.

This study is a qualitative study of six individuals, (sample size equals six). The rationale behind the selection was to get a broad representation of different individuals’ opinions. A semi-structured interview method was used and the analysis was made according to Social Cognitive Theory. The aim was to investigate if individuals in different occupations have preconceived opinions and what information and material these beliefs are based on.

The result showed that the preconceptions of these diagnoses, had many common denominators independent of the persons professional subgroup

Key words; Preconception, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, ADHD, Schizophrenia and Borderline Personality Disorder, BPD

Ett motiverande hjälpmedel för studenter: Visuella primingövningar inför läsning samt studenters upplevelse av motivation2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The study is based on the fact that university studies and reading course literature can be difficult for students. The purpose is to investigate what factors are important in designing a mobile application that is designed to facilitate students when reading course literature. In this study, the facts of previous research have been combined to create a prototype. The prototype was tested by potential users. The test was supplemented with questionnaires, estimates and interviews.

Delimitations in this study was that in the prototype only parts of memory techniques and priming is being tested. The exercises used in the test were put together without any involvement from the users to see if priming of words can help students with learning.

Previous research addresses the problem of absorbing knowledge from a large amount of course literature. Inspiration has been taken from different types of memory techniques, so-called mnemonics, with the hope that these will facilitate the reading of new literature, thus increasing or maintaining motivation. Other aspects that are addressed include images and memorizing, priming for understanding a text easier, mini-exercises in smartphones tailored for today's pressed schedules as well as motivation. In theory, we have looked at motivation, primarily intrinsic motivation, supported by Keller's ARCS Model based on attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction. The additional theory part takes up learning, feedback and study strategies.

This is a qualitative study where facts have been gathered from literature to create a prototype with priming exercises. The prototype and exercises were intended to prepare a student for reading a text. The empirical data was collected from five potential users. The result shows how the potential users perceived the use of the prototype as well as briefly about their general opinions about their own studies. The user's experience of the prototype does not clearly show the benefit of such a type of device. Some users did not fully find the utility of the app, some found it moderately helpful, and one person showed more clearly the prototype also contributed to motivation for further studies. In addition to this, the interviews showed that motivation to study was to increase the possibility of getting a job in the future. It also turned out that course literature was not always used but the students found the necessary information in another way. Most participants indicated that preparation for an examination often occurred the days before the deadline, however, it is unclear how the participants interpreted the meaning of "prepare yourself".

A reflection of the study is to improve clarity regarding the mobile exercises and connection to the text that belonged to the exercises. If this was very unclear to users, it may affect the result.

    Abstract [en]

This report addresses the theories and methods of usability in creating a Flash application. The report describes step by step in the creative process, all the way from the development needs and use to create content and finally a detailed explanation of how the application assemblies. The methods used are mainly ITK (Identity Tool Kit) and scenarios according to Alan Cooper. Furthermore, methods of assembly and visualization of application used with the support of Nielsen and Raskin usability principles. The result shows that the use of ITK in order to identify an activity, this requires a great understanding and modification of this. It also shows that Alan Cooper's theories about the scenarios do not come into its own, without a detailed analysis of the users thereof. The results also show that using the software 3D Studio Max and Flash for interactive content for product visualization on the web is created with good results.

Kan Virtual Routing and Forwarding stoppa en datamask från att sprida sig mellan två nätverk?2011Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The number of usable IPv4 addresses is in the current situation sufferingfrom exhaustion and it is therefore necessary to find a way to migrate thenetwork to the new standard, IPv6. A migration may require that the two IPversions must be run on the network simultaneously, to make sure that systemsthat are dependent on the network are running stable. The purpose ofthis study was to examine the performance of the different migration techniques, and find out which techniques are preferred. With the help of twoscenarios that were used in a test bed, a performance test was done usingthe Iperf tool. 6to4 and GRE were tested in one environment and NAT64and Teredo in the other environment. The network properties analyzed werethroughput, jitter and packet loss. The results showed that the 6to4 and GREare almost equally balanced but 6to4 has slightly better throughput thanGRE. A much more notable difference could be seen between NAT64 andTeredo, were Teredo was measured with a much higher transmission rate ofUDP traffic than NAT64. However, when TCP was used, NAT64 wasslightly faster than Teredo.

    Title

: Performance Measurement of Creative work – a culture study at PS Communication

    Keywords

: Key Performance Indicators, Organizational Culture, Macro-culture, Subculture,

Micro-culture, Art, Business, Creativity, PS Communication

In the paper’s introductory chapter, the chosen problem area regarding art and business will

be presented. The paper’s studied empirical case will also be introduced here. This then leads

to the reports chosen research questions:

How do the company management and the companies’ creative personnel approach differ in

the discussion regarding performance measurement on PS Communication?

    -

    What causes these differences?

What impact does the corporate culture have in the discussion about performance

    measurement of PS Communication?

    -

Is the corporate culture weak or strong?

The purpose of this paper is to resolve the stand still in the discussion regarding performance

management by creating an understanding of different people active in the organization’s

approach to performance measurement. To create a deeper understanding of where the

different views have their origin, a cultural analysis will be performed. Then with that

information, we hope that we will be able to create a basis for further discussion of

    performance measurement.

The methodology chapter is based on a hermeneutic approach and qualitative approaches. In

this chapter an introduction of the sample that has been made will also be presented and it will

also describe the quality of the research. The chapter concludes with a presentation of the

    research process method.

    VI

The theory chapter begins with a presentation of the problem between art and business. Then

the theory behind creative ideal types, culture and power, and conflict will be presented.

The paper’s empirical chapter is based on interviews with the two employees at PS

Communication. It also includes revised information from the company’s employee

    handbook.

The analysis chapter compares the theoretical chapter with the empirical findings, which

creates an understanding for how situation at the company today. This will culminate into the

    paper’s conclusion, which states:

The managements and the creators view on performance measurement are different in that

management believes measurement gives them an overview of where in the organization they

are profitable, which creates a strategy for where focus should be. The corporate culture has

central roll in the conflict because of the differences that exists between the two subcultures.

The differences due to management and the creative, belongs to two different subcultures

with a widely different idea on how work should be valued. Two strong subcultures create

    one weak corporate culture.

    Abstract [en]

In this essay, I’ve chosen to analyze and discuss the symbolic meaning and purpose of the Överhogdal-weaves dating between the years 800-1100. I have looked in to the Nordic mythology that was the Scandinavian beliefs at the time and explained the meanings of some of the motives I think contribute to the main thought behind the weaves. To help me get some more understanding of the motives I’ve also looked at the picture stones from Gotland and compared them to the weaves.

Manligt och kvinnligt enligt kvinnor och män: En kvalitativ undersökning av ledarna i fyra livsstilsmagasin2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis is to study how femininity and masculinity is portraited in theeditorials of four Swedish lifestyle magazines; Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Moore and Slitz. Themain questions we based our study on are: What kind of relationship does the editor in chiefcreate with the intended reader? What conception of the world does the editor in chief createin the editorials? How does the editor in chief portray masculinity and femininity? In order to answer the questions above we performed a qualitative analysis of the editorials offour lifestyle magazines published during 2007. We used a discourse analysis with emphasison gender and how the editorials constructed masculinity and femininity and its stereotypicaltraits.Furthermore we based our results on a theory of the socially constructed gender. According tothis theory gender is constructed during our childhood and adolescense by the individuals andthe society surrounding us. These individuals and this society teaches us what is expectedfrom men and women in their traditional gender roles. Theories concerning stereotypes insociety and media were also helpful.During our analysis we found that there are several differences between how women portraythemselves in Glamour and Cosmopolitan and how men portray them in Slitz and Moore. There were also differences in how men portraid themselves in Slitz and Moore and howwomen portraid men in Glamour and Cosmopolitan. There were also several similaritiesbetween the different magazines. One of the most important similarities between the editorials was that all of them tended tolean toward the stereotypical description of masculinity and femininity. Also, the role of theopposite sex tended to be small and undetailed. The most important difference, on the other hand, we found was the language. While theeditorials in the lifestyle magazines directed to men used a harsh, sarcastic and humoristiclanguage, the editorials in the lifestyle magazines directed toward women tended to use amore friendly, educational and serious language.

Självbestämmandets gränser: När brukarens självbestämmanderätt krockar med personalens diskrimineringsskydd2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The inspiration for this essay started with my own experience of an issue within personal assistance. I witnessed a situation where a user expressed a reluctance to receive support from personal assistants with another ethnicity. There is something called “self-determination” which is a statutory right who follows from the legal act named Lagen om stöd och service till vissa funktionshindrade (LSS). Personal assistance is one of many supports people with disabilities can be entitled to within the rights of LSS and when it comes to personal assistance especially, the user’s right to self-determination is significant. According to the right of self-determination the user should be given considerable influence when the employer hires the personal assistant. The problematic aspects of this is when the user require someone, or express an aversion of someone, with a certain ethnicity. The self-determination can therefore collide with another strong law which is the discrimination act (Diskrimineringslagen, DL). Since special treatment because of ethnicity is forbidden according to DL, the main question this essay aims to investigate is how to interpret these two legislations when they collide in this type of situation. Different interpretations cause employers to act differently which leads to different opportunities for assistants and users depending on the municipality they live in, therefore it is an important question which needs to be investigated.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this qualitative study is to investigate if and how teachers can support the principal’s leadership. The research will be executed from the perspective of principals. The following questions will be used in purpose to find the answers of the study:What teachers think about the pedagogical leadership (abstract):Do principals think that it is difficult to manage the pedagogical leadership?Do teachers prevent principals from managing their pedagogical leadership? What sort of backing do the principals want from the teachers regarding their pedagogical leadership? What sort of backing the principals do get (concrete):What sort of backing do the principals get from the teachers regarding their pedagogical leadership? What sort of shortages are there regarding the teachers backing of the principals leadership? The theoretical chapters of the study contain information about the principals’ juridical, administrative and economical responsibilities. The chapters also contain information about the principal’s pedagogical leadership but, also about the relation between principals and teachers. The relation between principals and teachers is important because without a relation, no leadership will exist. A relation will not exist without communication. Communication is therefore central in the existence of a relation.

The survey shows that principals often use words such as discussion, togetherness and trust when describing their organization compared to their pedagogical leadership. They also mention words such as goals, results and conditions. These words are therefore essential and they influence the principal’s pedagogical leadership. Even though all principals mention these words, it is not certain that they all execute them in the same way. How the organization reaches its goal, depends on how the principal work and how the organization is composed.

Folkmajoritetens upphöjda tankesätt[…]: En presshistorisk undersökning av den konservativa pressens opinionsbildning rörande representationsreformen de fyra sista månaderna år 18652017Student paper other, 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In 1865 the four national estates in Sweden voted to reform the national representation to a bicameral parliament. This reform was preceded by a rise in liberal sentiment in the country, especially among the emerging middle class. The vote was not unanomous however and some newspapers backed up the more conservative representatives that were hesitant to pass the reform. Three of these conservative papers have been examined and analysed, to identify the arguments against the reform that were presented, and how they viewed the reform. The objections that were vocalized by the papers mainly focused on the upheaval the reform was feared to cause. The liberal press was considered misleading and hypocritical, when discussing the issue. The newspapers did not deny the problems with the current representation, instead they prefered the changes to be smaller and more gradual, except for Nya Dagligt Allehanda, which is positive to the new change. One suggestion to an alternative representation is a system based on a class system, instead of income. The liberal reformers are seen as a threat to stability and are described as revolutionary more than once. A major fear regarding the reform was that the second chamber would facilitate mobrule in place of the current representation. Earlier works in the area have mainly focused on the reformers, but this work shows their sceptical, conservative counterparts.

    Abstract [en]

This essay aims to highlight three former florist students' thoughts and experiences of its threeyear secondary school in the Handicraft, focusing florist. All three graduated from the same class in 2011 and is currently active florists. Respondents have been requested to answer questions based on four concepts: creativity, motivation, education and nderstanding. They believe they  have been widely reported during their internships in schools, to be creative, with the exception of one of respondents' experiences during the last year. But the conditions for being creative in school, have seen a little different. Both the physical and psychological environment, and relationships with teachers and other classmates, experience respondents have influenced their motivation to a great extent. All three talk warmly about their internships and raises them as an important key to really understand the profession's requirements. All three respondents have sought high ratings and thought during the whole program that they were important and served as a driving force, but they have not had the benefit of the grades after the fact. None of the respondents consider themselves to be sufficiently formed, either under their own definitions or according to what they feel society and industry, "expect" from them. Change and improvement points that were discussed were better photo opportunities, more plant science, more florist courses during the last year, always have a good budget and fresh material, the journeyman should be included in secondary education as a final exam and the opportunity to work more under time pressure and specific conditions rates and life-like client meetings.

Injury profile of competitive alpine skiers: a five-year cohort study2012In: Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, ISSN 0942-2056, E-ISSN 1433-7347, Vol. 20, no 6, p. 1175-1181Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to make a survey of injuries in young elite alpine skiers. During 5 years, all students at the Swedish Ski High schools were prospectively followed regarding injuries, time of exposure, injury location, type of injury, injury severity and gender. Four hundred and thirty-one skiers, 215 males and 216 females completed the entire study. Of 431 skiers, 193 (91 males, 102 females) sustained 312 injuries during the 5-year study period. The injury incidence for males was 1.62 injuries/1,000 ski hours or 2.97 injuries/100 months at a Ski High school, and the corresponding values for females were 1.77 and 3.25, respectively. Forty-one percent of the injuries involved the knee, 69% were ligament injuries, and 49% were classified as severe injuries. Of 190 injured skiers, 120 injured their left leg ( = 0.0097). This was their first time injury. The risk of sustaining a re-injury or a new injury increased the sooner the first time injury occurred ( = 0.001). There was a high risk for alpine ski students to sustain an injury during their education at the Swedish Ski High schools. Most injuries, especially ligament injuries, occurred in the knee joint in both males and females. Both genders were more likely to sustain injuries to the left than to the right leg. Nearly 50% of the injuries were classified as severe. II.

Risk Factors for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury in Competitive Adolescent Alpine Skiers2018In: The Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, ISSN 2325-9671, Vol. 6, no 4, article id 2325967118766830Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: There is a high risk for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in alpine skiers. To reduce or try to prevent theseinjuries, intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors need to be identified.Purpose: To identify possible intrinsic and extrinsic ACL injury risk factors among competitive adolescent alpine skiers.Study Design: Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3.Methods: Between 2006 and 2009, a cohort of 339 alpine ski students (176 male, 163 female) from Swedish ski high schools wereprospectively observed in terms of ACL injuries. First-time ACL injuries were recorded. In September, prior to each ski season, theskiers were clinically examined according to a specific knee protocol. Results: Overall, 11 male and 14 female skiers sustained a total of 25 first-episode ACL injuries. The majority of injuries occurred inthe left knee (P < .05). Skiers who had participated in alpine skiing for >13 years (hazard ratio, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.68-1.00; P < .05) hada reduced risk of sustaining an ACL injury. Eighteen ACL injuries occurred during training, 12 in the technical discipline of giantslalom, and 8 in slalom. Fourteen skiers reported not to be fatigued at all at the time of injury, and 8 skiers reported that they weresomewhat fatigued. Conclusion: ACL injuries occurred more often in the left knee than the right. This should be taken into consideration in the design ofACL injury prevention programs. Those who reported a higher number of active years in alpine skiing showed a reduced risk ofsustaining an ACL injury. No other factor among those studied could be identified as an independent risk factor for ACL injury.

    Abstract [en]

In 1990, Germany once again became a reunited country after the collapse of the socialistic German Democratic Republic [GDR]. Although most of the East Germans were positive about the reunification, the consequences of their transformation into the West German system came as a shock to many. The current study examines what successful and unsuccessful socialization processes look like, how identities are constructed, and why work, family, and free-time activities are important. More specifically, the study focuses on what these elements looked like in the GDR. Research shows that many East Germans had troubles adjusting to the new type of society after the reunification. Together, the results of this study demonstrate that there are still significant differences on several factors between East and West Germans today. Discrepancies continue to exist in integration and work, with the unemployment rate in the East of Germany still being higher than in the West. In terms of identity construction, even after 20 years since the reunification (in 2009) over 50% of the East Germans still identified themselves as “East Germans” rather than “Germans”. Values also differ, with East Germans tending to value social security more than West Germans and maintaining higher expectations for the involvement of the government. These differences can be traced back to socialistic socialization processes in East Germans and shows how the GDR continues to affect the identities and integration of East Germans.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to examine which support the communities in Kalmar have to offer children who have witnessed domestic violence. The study also includes how social services justify this actions based on the childs needs. The study includes six respondents; four socialworkers, one head of unit at “Alternativ till våld” and one manager at “Barnahuset” in Kalmar.

The method used in this study is a qualitative research approach with semi-structured interviews.

The study concludes that children who have witnessed domestic violence seldom are known by social services, but when a child is recognized the social service use “Alternativ Till Våld” or a general support. It also reveals that those children often have a lower priority when weighed against children who has been abused.

    Abstract [en]

I have studied the issues of the Swedish periodical, Polistidningen, over a period from 1974 to 2008 to examine how the image of the police is constructed. My main ambition was to explore how the magazine in question constructs the concept of the good police officer, in other words, what kind of police attributes were rewarded or encouraged. To do this I wanted to study changes over time in order to reveal the development of the concept of the good police officer as it evolved. Through a critical discourse analysis of the material, I identified three themes that together formed a comprehensive picture: the police culture, the woman police officer and police education.

During the 1970’s, the police officer was a man with a neat appearance. The view of education was mechanical and the police officer was fed with theoretical knowledge. He was a police cadet in Stockholm and in a climate of contemporary hatred towards the police, the job was tough. The police culture provided him a sense of safety and confidence, but his female colleagues were not welcome.

In the 1980’s, the police officer was a man and the job was seen as labourer work. The neat uniforms were replaced by leather jackets, which were a physical protection against knife stabbings and a mental shield against the hatred towards the police from the outside world. The police officer was described as a superman: a tough policeman with a heart of stone. If the police officer worked at Norrmalm, a district in central Stockholm, he worked in a culture where violence was a part of everyday life and where rumours of military marches beating time when the baton swung in the air were spread in the media. The spirit of the police body was the police officer’s shield against criminal charges and he protected his colleagues under the same premise. His female colleagues existed, but were not to be seen.

Den uniformerade verklighetens polisblick2015Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Internet-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT) for different kinds of mental health issues has been presented as an alternative to traditional face-to-face treatment based on research from the last decade. Despite clinical relevance and several advantages for both patients and therapists the implementation of the method is progressing slowly in many European countries. The purpose of this study was to examine therapists’ experiences of implementing ICBT in their everyday work. Interviews were conducted with eight therapists in a Swedish public health care setting, after which a thematic analysis was made. Four main themes were defined: A new method, A new role, Premises and Learning. The therapists have an overarching mutual comprehension of ICBT and its use, which is an important aspect of the implementation. The therapists explained that colleagues that don't work with ICBT, but still have a role in the implementation, sometimes lack knowledge and have negative preconceptions which obstruct the work. Furthermore, therapists talked about organized collaboration between active therapists not being prioritized in the everyday clinical work. Results from the analysis are discussed by applying Normalization Process Theory to the findings. Further research could examine the experiences of ICBT-trained therapists who have not yet started working with ICBT and of colleagues who do not work with treatment in workplaces where ICBT is being implemented.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [de]

    Abstract [de]

Abstract [en]

This study concerns emotions in connection to the dandy in literature. The dandy is often described as being sophisticated and lacking emotions. A comparative study between the turn of the last century and pop literature novels from the Nineteen-nineties shows that the dandy in fact has emotions. However, these emotions are mostly mirrored in internal focalization and interior monologue and are thus only visible through the first-person narrative. The dandy keeps up appearances with his counterparts in the fictional world. The investigation shows that the hidden emotions in the early 1900s concern forbidden passions, while the late twentieth-century emotions are connected to aggressions hidden by the protagonists of pop literature.

    Abstract [de]

[ed] Martin Hellström; Edgar Platen, München: IUDICIUM Verlag GmbH, 2014, 13, p. 12-38Chapter in book (Other academic)
    Abstract [de]

    Abstract [de]

Martin Walser: Die Frauengestalten in ’Jagd’. Wunschproduktion oder Mangel?1998Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The protagonists in Walser's work are male antiheroes, incapable of adapting to the competitive postwar German society. Their only refuge is at home within marriage. This conservative portrayal of relationships has made some critics call Walser misogynist. In the novel "Jagd" (Hunt) from 1988 Walser describes six women from three different generations, all with different backgrounds. This study focuses on the portrayal of these women. Can the women only be regarded as a virgin or a whore (a target for male desire) or is it possible to find a problematized gender identity? The analysis tries to point out structures and motives that show that Walser's intention goes beyond a simple affirmation of the traditional stereotype.

Jahrhundert / [ed] Frank Becker, Elke Reinhardt-Becker, Frankfurt/New York: Campus Verlag, 2019, p. 201-224Chapter in book (Refereed)
    Abstract [de]

Poplitteratur i Tyskland: Ett massmedialt litteraturfenomen2013In: Chick lit: brokiga läsningar och didaktiska utmaningar / [ed] Maria Nilson, Helene Ehriander, Stockholm: Liber, 2013, p. 102-115Chapter in book (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

Unzuverlässiges Erzählen als Inszenierung der Normabweichung.: Eine gender-orientierte Erzähltextanalyse am Beispiel von Marlen Haushofers "Die Tapetentür" (1957), Doris Dörries "Mitten ins Herz" (1987) und Karen Duves "Im tiefen Schnee ein stilles Heim" (1999).2011In: Begegnungen / [ed] Elisabeth Wåghäll Nivre, Brigitte Kaute, Bo Andersson, Barbro Landén, Dessislava Stoeva-Holm, Stockholm: Stockholm University , 2011, p. 561-573Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [de]
