    Abstract [en]

    This report is a product of Bachelor Degree Project at Mechanical Engineering department inLinnaeus University, Växjö, Sweden. The project is about a design improvement of industrialcompact mixers.This project is accomplished with Xylem, one of the main suppliers of compact mixers in theindustry, located at Emmaboda, Sweden. The company has a problem with the existing designof the two part, oil housing and entrance cover, in 4610/20 compact mixers. The 4610/20compact mixers has suffered from quality problems which affect the production and the endcustomer because of the existing design of these part. The aim of this study is to improve thequality of the product by redesigning of oil housing and entrance cover. In addition to theredesigning of these parts, another important purpose of the project is to produce these partsfrom different material than existing one.The computer aided design programs are widely used, Solid Works, during the project. Forselection of a new material a wide literature research has been accomplished.

    Abstract [en]

    In this thesis, authors’ main goal is to test two hypotheses to compare if the tourists are more likely to make their destination choice based on user generated photographs on social media, as well as, tourists’ sustainable destination choice based on photographs with sustainable green content. The quantitative research method was used to conduct the survey with experimental design. It was aimed to compare the tourist’ trust in different photo types, the consumers’ trust was expected to be measured by three dimensions: first impression, intention, and persuasiveness, recommended by previous studies. However, the findings revealed that the tourists are not more likely to trust user generated content on social media to make their destination choice.

    Tidigare forskning och ett flertal exempel på framgångsrika företag indikerar på att kontorsmiljö har en relation till varumärkesidentitet. Trots en antydan på att områdena har en koppling till varandra är teorier om dess samband bristfällig. Denna forskningsstudie syftade därför till att kartlägga eventuella samband mellan kontorsmiljö och varumärkesidentitet ur anställdas perspektiv. För att undersöka detta utformades en enkätundersökning som utgick från tre hypoteser, vilket var följande: Upplevd interiör är positivt relaterad till upplevda värden, Upplevd kommunikativ kontorsmiljö är positivt relaterad till företagskultur, Upplevd ergonomi är positivt relaterad till upplevd syfte. Samtliga hypoteser belyste anställdas upplevelse av kontorsmiljön samt varumärkesidentiteten. Genom en operationalisering bröts begreppen ned till mätbara variabler. Fortsättningsvis ställdes dessa variabler mot varandra för att kunna urskilja samband, med kontorsmiljö som oberoende variabel och varumärkesidentitet som beroende variabel. Resultaten visade att samtliga hypoteser hade en statistisk signifikans och kunde därmed accepteras. Vid analysen tillämpades även kontrollvariablerna; ålder, kön anställningsperiod och timmar per vecka varav den sistnämnda även påvisade statistisk signifikans.

    Title: Purchasing Process of Services: A Study of the Purchasing Process of HumanResource (HR) services

    Background: The rise in competition among organizations continues to increase. The rise in globalization, outsourcing and continuous pressure from customers have been the source for the increase in competition. Additionally, the instability in various industries is leading to high competition among firms. The purchasing of professional services is vital to organizations. Contemporary organizations spend a huge portion of their resources on the purchasing of professional services. The proper purchase of professional services can lead to cost saving and competitive advantage for companies or organizations.

    Research Questions: 

    • How can the various purchasing models be used to develop a process for professional HR service purchasing?
    • What are the factors involved in developing a process for the purchasing of professional HR services

    Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to develop a purchasing process for the purchasing of professional HR services. It takes into consideration the various classifications models of purchasing and the factors involved in the purchasing of services in order to develop a purchasing process for professional HR services.

    Method: Through a qualitative case study, the thesis gathered empirical data and used the deductive scientific approach to building a foundation of theory. Additionally, pattern matching was used to analyze both the theory and empirical data.

    Conclusion: The thesis developed a new classification model for HR services which resulted in the development of a new purchasing process that takes into consideration the classification of services and integrates the effects of the classification in the purchasing process. Additionally, the thesis discovered that personal relationship, clarity of problem and solution, specification of supplier’s inputs, specification of supplier’s throughputs or processes, specification of supplier’s output and specification of supplier’s outcome and the characteristics of service are factors involved in the development of a purchasing process forHR Services.

    This study deals with the concept of ’integration’. Starting from the concept of reality as socially and linguistically constructed, it is an attempt to see how lingual constructions and perceptions affect the official structures of society and vice versa. The main purpose is to compare the different meanings integration has in a sociological context and in a political one. Further, the purpose is to see how the relationship between the sociological and political concepts affects the integrational work in the Swedish County Administrative Boards, and which consequences these effects might have. The study is carried out with ethnographic methods, i.e. participant observation and textual analysis, in a specific County Administrative Board, focusing mainly on its policy and strategy for integrational work. The results are that the main differences between the sociological and political definitions of integration lie in their extent of meanings. The sociological definitions contain many different meanings which sometimes contradict each other. The political ones however are more fixed and limited in their scope. The goal of the integrational politics is not always clear and this affects the practical work. Other problems are that the political as well as practical integrational definitions are limited to certain groups during certain conditions. The consequences of these problems can be that certain groups are left out of the integrational process, that some of the factors of integration are neglected and that immigrants, being the designated group in need of integration, are stigmatized.

    Abstrakt

     

    Syftet med denna studie är att ge en detaljerad beskrivning av hur bråk behandlas i turkiska och svenska läroböcker för matematik. I vår undersökning, använde vi flera teoretiska begrepp såsom olika sätt att förstå bråk (del-helhet, förhållande, mått, kvot, decimaltal och operator), representationer (behandling, omvandling), att skilja på rutinuppgifter och problem, att klassificera exempel och uppgifters kontexter i termer av verkliga situationer, semi-verkligheter, och ren matematik, och om texters berättande och paradigmatiska stilar.

     

    Genom våra analyser av dessa tre läroböcker, har vi kommit fram till ett resultat som visar både likheter och skillnader mellan dem, både vad gäller de ingående ämnena och deras sekvensering och hur begreppet bråk har representerats i övningar och exempel.

    Resultaten beskrivs med bilder, tabeller och diagram som illustrerar likheter och skillnader mellan matematikläroböcker i Turkiet och Sverige och dessutom visar läroböckernas utveckling i Turkiet.

    Pleurobranchaea maculata is a rarely studied species of the Heterobranchia found throughout the south and western Pacific-and recently recorded in Argentina-whose population genetic structure is unknown. Interest in the species was sparked in New Zealand following a series of dog deaths caused by ingestions of slugs containing high levels of the neurotoxin tetrodotoxin. Here we describe the genetic structure and demographic history of P. maculata populations from five principle locations in New Zealand based on extensive analyses of 12 microsatellite loci and the COI and CytB regions of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). Microsatellite data showed significant differentiation between northern and southern populations with population structure being associated with previously described regional variations in tetrodotoxin concentrations. However, mtDNA sequence data did not support such structure, revealing a star-shaped haplotype network with estimates of expansion time suggesting a population expansion in the Pleistocene era. Inclusion of publicly available mtDNA sequence sea slugs from Argentina did not alter the star-shaped network. We interpret our data as indicative of a single founding population that fragmented following geographical changes that brought about the present day north-south divide in New Zealand waters. Lack of evidence of cryptic species supports data indicating that differences in toxicity of individuals among regions are a consequence of differences in diet.

    Genetic structure among and diversity within natural populations is influenced by acombination of ecological and evolutionary processes. These processes can differentlyinfluence neutral and functional genetic diversity and also vary according toenvironmental settings. To investigate the roles of interacting processes as drivers ofpopulation‐level genetic diversity in the wild, we compared neutral and functionalstructure and diversity between 20 Tetrix undulata pygmy grasshopper populations indisturbed and stable habitats. Genetic differentiation was evident among the differentpopulations, but there was no genetic separation between stable and disturbedenvironments. The incidence of long‐winged phenotypes was higher in disturbedhabitats, indicating that these populations were recently established by flight‐capablecolonizers. Color morph diversity and dispersion of outlier genetic diversity, estimatedusing AFLP markers, were higher in disturbed than in stable environments,likely reflecting that color polymorphism and variation in other functionally importanttraits increase establishment success. Neutral genetic diversity estimated usingAFLP markers was lower in disturbed habitats, indicating stronger eroding effects onneutral diversity of genetic drift associated with founding events in disturbed comparedto stable habitats. Functional diversity and neutral diversity were negativelycorrelated across populations, highlighting the utility of outlier loci in genetics studiesand reinforcing that estimates of genetic diversity based on neutral markers donot infer evolutionary potential and the ability of populations and species to copewith environmental change.

    Mobile apps play an increasingly important role in healthcare institutions by enhancing the quality of healthcare services. Their role in sport injury prevention is also instrumental. In this article, we propose a system architecture for ski injury registration using mobile apps. Our work follows the idea of integrating and using mHealth apps to manage skiing injuries and to provide higher healthcare service quality and faster availability of data. With this work, we aim to greatly simplify the information workflow between the ski patrollers and the medical centers. Having the right information in the right place and on the right time for the injured person, the ski patroller then delivers to the medical centers that information in a format that is easy to analyze by the medical personnel and be prepared for possible interventions. To develop the mobile interfaces for the ski patrollers, nurses and doctors, we employ user-centered design. The overall system features and implementation are also explained and described in this paper. For evaluation purposes of our proposed system architecture, we have conducted a traditional user test of the ski patroller system in collaboration with the ski patrollers in the ski resort of Trysil in Norway. Moreover, a heuristic evaluation with four evaluators is also conducted. The traditional test had two-evaluation points and based on the results of the tests, we obtained implications for enhancing the design of mobile interfaces for the proposed architecture.

    Video Encryption is nearly the best method for blocking unwanted seizures and viewing of any transmitted video or information. There are several useful techniques that are available for encryping videos. However, one of the unique speciality for human eye is spotting the irregularity in videos due to weak video decoding or weak choice of video encryption hardware. Because of this situation, it is very important to select the right hardware or else our video transmissions may not be secured or our decoded video may be un-watchable. Every technique has advantages and disadvantages over other technical methods.

     

    Line-cut and rotate video encryption method is maybe the best way of acquiring safe, secured and good quality encypted videos. In this method, every line in the video frame cuts and rotates from different points and these cut points are created from a random matrix. The advantage of this method is to supply a coherent video signal, gives an excellent amount of darkness, as well as good decode quality and stableness. On the other hand it’s disadvantages is to have complex timing control and needs specialized encryption equipment.

    To help researchers in building a knowledge foundation of their research fields which could be a time-consuming process, the authors have developed a Cross Tabulation Search Engine (CTSE). Its purpose is to assist researchers in 1) conducting research surveys, 2) efficiently and effectively retrieving information (such as important researchers, research groups, keywords), and also 3) providing analytical information relating to past and current research trends in a particular field. Their CTSE system employs data-processing technologies and emphasizes the use of a “Learn by Searching” learning strategy to support students to analyze such research trends. To show the effectiveness of CTSE, a pilot experiment has been conducted, where participants were assigned to do research survey tasks and then answer a questionnaire regarding the effectiveness and usability of the system. The results showed that the system has been helpful to students in conducting research surveys, and the research trend transitions that our system presented were effective for producing research trend surveys. Moreover, the results showed that most students had favorable attitudes toward the usage and usability of the system, and those students were satisfied in gaining more know ledge in a particular research field in a short period.

    As a highly commercialized sport, tennis is growing rapidly in the Chinese market. With robust economic growth and various supports from the government, China is becoming more and more valuable in the eyes of professional tennis tournament organizers. Nevertheless, those tournaments do not receive the same amount of popularity as they do in other countries like US and Japan. The purpose of this paper is finding effective ways to improve the popularity of professional tennis tournaments in China from the aspect of customer engagement. Comments from people who are closely involved in the events will be the most relevant empirical material for this study, because they are the group engaged in, or most likely to be engaged in the event. The comments collected will be coded and compared with theories in the field of customer engagement. A conceptual model and practical suggestions will be provided as the result of study.

    Abstract [en]

    Low pathogenic avian influenza virus can mutate to a highly pathogenic strain that causes severe clinical signs in birds and humans. Migratory waterfowl, especially ducks, are considered the main hosts of low pathogenic avian influenza virus, but the role of geese in dispersing the virus over long-distances is still unclear. We collected throat and cloaca samples from three goose species, Bean goose (Anser fabalis), Barnacle goose (Branta leucopsis) and Greater white-fronted goose (Anser albifrons), from their breeding grounds, spring stopover sites, and wintering grounds. We tested if the geese were infected with low pathogenic avian influenza virus outside of their wintering grounds, and analysed the spatial and temporal patterns of infection prevalence on their wintering grounds. Our results show that geese were not infected before their arrival on wintering grounds. Barnacle geese and Greater white-fronted geese had low prevalence of infection just after their arrival on wintering grounds in the Netherlands, but the prevalence increased in successive months, and peaked after December. This suggests that migratory geese are exposed to the virus after their arrival on wintering grounds, indicating that migratory geese might not disperse low pathogenic avian influenza virus during autumn migration.

    This thesis reports on the results of a quantitative study of various barriers to knowledge sharing in a virtual community of practice within Sigma Kudos, a Swedish multinational organization. The study was undertaken to investigate the under-utilization of a virtual "teamroom". Members' views showed that the biggest barrier involved the way in which people chose to share their knowledge; the respondents preferred sharing knowledge in their existing face-to-face networks. Face-to-face sharing mainly seemed to occur between individuals who had a common ground and shared experiences, and between individuals who were in convenient proximity to each other. Time constraints in combination with perceived lack of intranet site structure implied a redundancy of the teamroom as yet another internal site. Another prominent set of barriers that emerged from the findings was related to aspects of uncertainty and unfamiliarity with the teamroom. Additionally, survey comments revealed the use of teamroom features to be a barrier. To enable co-evolved knowledge structures to occur via the community, it is necessary for management to understand face-to-face sharing behavior in terms of implicit and tacit knowledge. It is vital to change the perception of teamroom sharing as an extra task requiring more time. Moreover, the teamroom needs to be distinguished in context of the greater intranet structure, as well as when it comes to the different sections of the community itself. To foster knowledge sharing in the teamroom, it is also important to define and communicate the strategic meaning of it.

    AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: It is thought that enterovirus infections cause beta-cell damage and contribute to the development of Type 1 diabetes by replicating in the pancreatic islets. We sought evidence for this through autopsy studies and by investigating known enterovirus receptors in cultured human islets. METHODS: Autopsy pancreases from 12 newborn infants who died of fulminant coxsackievirus infections and from 65 Type 1 diabetic patients were studied for presence of enteroviral ribonucleic acid by in situ hybridisation. Forty non-diabetic control pancreases were included in the study. The expression and role of receptor candidates in cultured human islets were investigated with receptor-specific antibodies using immunocytochemistry and functional assays. RESULTS: Enterovirus-positive islet cells were found in some of both autopsy specimen collections, but not in control pancreases. No infected cells were seen in exocrine tissue. The cell surface molecules, poliovirus receptor and integrin alphavbeta3, which act as enterovirus receptors in established cell lines, were expressed in beta cells. Antibodies to poliovirus receptor, human coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor and integrin alphavbeta3 protected islets and beta cells from adverse effects of poliovirus, coxsackie B viruses, and several of the arginine-glycine-aspartic acid motifs containing enteroviruses and human parechovirus 1 respectively. No evidence was found for expression of the decay-accelerating factor which acts as a receptor for several islet-cell-replicating echoviruses in established cell lines. CONCLUSIONS/INTERPRETATION: The results show a definite islet-cell tropism of enteroviruses in the human pancreas. Some enteroviruses seem to use previously identified cell surface molecules as receptors in beta cells, whereas the identity of receptors used by other enteroviruses remains unknown.

    Arms trade is a multi-faced issue, it can increase the state's economic revenue; however also endanger the human security. The European Union's member state United Kingdom is one of the five largest arms traders in the world. The EU promotes human security in its work, especially in the union's development policies. These circumstances address the main question of the study: is there a contradiction between the UK's arms trade and the EU development policies. The objective of this study is to research the stately weapon use in three of the UK's trading partners, and how it could affect the EU development policies. The UK exports arms to Israel, Sudan and Egypt all countries which have misused arms through attacks towards the civilian population. The misuse of arms has prevented the EU to achieve the goals within the development policies though violations of human rights, increased suffering, and decreased human security.

    Hjärt- och kärlsjukdomar däribland kärlkramp är den vanligaste dödsorsaken i Sverige och årligen drabbas ca.11 000 människor av kärlkramp. Sjukdomen påverkar både personerna och deras familj i olika utsträckning, vilket väcker behovet av att identifiera och beskriva upplevelser av sjukdomen.

    Syftet med studien var att belysa personers upplevelse av att leva med kärlkramp. Studiens metod var systematisk litteraturstudie. Sökningar gjordes i databaserna Cinahl, PubMed och PsycINFO mellan åren 1997-2009. Sammanlagt ingick sju artiklar som kvalitetsbedömdes utifrån granskningsmallar. Resultatet i artiklarna analyserades, noterades och bildade följande tema: Rädsla och oro”, ”Förändringar och begränsningar i livet”, ”Känslan av beroende”, ”Förnekelse av sjukdomen”, ”Rädslan för att dö” samt ”Osäkerhet inför framtiden”.

    Resultatet visade att de flesta personer upplevde rädsla och oro i samband med sin sjukdom. Rädsla för kärlkrampsanfall och ovisshet om när anfallen kunde inträffa. De upplevde även rädsla i samband med arbetssituationen på grund av stress och krav som arbetet innebar. Kärlkrampen gjorde att de drabbade upplevde begränsningar vid fysisk aktivitet och behov av att anpassa sitt vardagliga liv på grund av sjukdomen.

    Slutsatsen visade att kärlkramp påverkade personernas livssituation. Den kroniska sjukdomen, anpassning av aktiviteter, sorg över förlorad kraft och en oviss framtid kom att prägla deras vardag.

    Problem solving is recognized as a skill, helping families of children with disabilities to manage problems in everyday life. Family problem-solving skills may therefore be seen as an important outcome of a child and youth habilitation service. The aim of this pilot feasibility study was to examine the design of a future web-based questionnaire study focusing on problem-solving patterns in relation to resources in families of children with disabilities. The descriptive statistical analyses built on data from 13 families and findings showed an overall satisfactory score distribution for three of the included instruments, whereas two instruments showed floor effects in one third of the items. Findings indicated design problems with data collection related to adapting questionnaires to a web-based survey format and to problems with the stop function that was added. Implementing the main study using web-based surveys needs critical considerations according to the choice of the web tool and the recruitment process.Problemlösungskompetenz gilt als eine Fertigkeit, die Familien mit Kindern mit Behinderungen hilft, Alltagsprobleme zu bewältigen. Eine Problemlösungskompetenz für Familien kann deshalb ein wichtiges Ergebnis von Reha-Maßnahmen für Kinder und Jugendliche sein. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Pilotstudie war die Untersuchung des Aufbaus einer künftigen webbasierten Befragungsuntersuchung unter besonderer Berücksichtigung von Problemlösungsmustern bzgl. der Ressourcen in Familien mit Kindern mit Behinderungen. Die deskriptiven statistischen Analysen beruhen auf Daten von 13 Familien, und die Ergebnisse wiesen auf eine insgesamt zufriedenstellende Verteilung der Scores für drei der enthaltenen Instrumente hin, wohingegen zwei Instrumente Bodeneffekte in einem Drittel der Items aufwiesen. Die Ergebnisse wiesen auf Designprobleme bei der Datenerfassung bzgl. der Anpassung von Fragebögen an ein webbasiertes Umfrageformat sowie auf Probleme mit der zusätzlichen Stopp-Funktion hin. Die Umsetzung der Hauptstudie mit Hilfe von webbasierten Umfragen muss entsprechend der Wahl des Web-Tools und des Rekrutierungsverfahrens kritisch untersucht werden.La resolución de problemas está considerada como una habilidad que permite a las familias con niños discapacitados gestionar los problemas del día a día. Por lo tanto, la capacidad que tienen las familias de solucionar problemas puede verse como un logro importante por parte de los servicios de habilitación para niños y jóvenes. El objetivo de este estudio piloto de viabilidad fue examinar el diseño de un futuro estudio basado en un cuestionario en línea, que trata sobre los modelos de resolución de problemas en relación con los recursos de que disponen las familias con niños discapacitados. Estos análisis estadísticos descriptivos se basan en datos procedentes de 13 familias. Los hallazgos mostraron una distribución general satisfactoria de la puntuación en tres de los instrumentos utilizados, mientras que dos instrumentos mostraron valores excesivamente bajos en un tercio de los casos. Además, los hallazgos indicaron problemas de diseño en la recopilación de datos con respecto a la adaptación de los cuestionarios a un formato de cuestionario en línea, así como problemas en la función de parada. La implementación del estudio principal mediante cuestionarios en línea requiere una serie de consideraciones importantes que dependen de la elección de la herramienta de red y del proceso de reclutamiento.La capacité à résoudre les problèmes est reconnue comme une compétence qui aide les familles d'enfants handicapés à gérer les difficultés de la vie quotidienne. Les capacités de la famille à résoudre les problèmes peuvent donc être considérées comme un aspect important des services visant à encourager l'autonomie des enfants et des adolescents. Cette étude pilote de faisabilité avait pour objet d'examiner la conception d'une étude future par questionnaire via le web, focalisée sur les modèles de résolution des problèmes par rapport aux ressources disponibles dans les familles d'enfants handicapés. Les analyses statistiques descriptives s'appuient sur des données recueillies auprès de 13 familles et les résultats présentent une distribution des scores globalement satisfaisante pour trois des instruments inclus, tandis que deux instruments affichent des effets de plancher pour un tiers des items. Les résultats indiquent des problèmes de conception vis-à-vis de la collecte des données concernant l'adaptation des questionnaires à un format d'enquête via Internet avec la fonction d'arrêt qui a été ajoutée. La mise en œuvre de l'étude principale par le biais d'enquêtes via le web nécessitera un examen approfondi en ce qui concerne le choix de l'outil web et le processus de recrutement.

    On October 22, 2015, a masked man entered the primary school Kronan in Trollhättan and stabbed three people to death with a knife and a sword. Shortly after the attack the perpetrator was shot to death by the police. The event received a great deal of spatial attention in Swedish media and has been called the worst school attack in Swedish history. The twenty-one-year-old perpetrator had grown up in Trollhättan and it is his origin that is of interest in this study. The aim of this study is to examine how a perpetrator of native origin is portrayed in a Swedish medium. Previous research, which shows that there is a difference between how a perpetrator of native origin is portrayed compared to a foreign one, is used as background. According to these studies media often focuses on the perpetrator’s ethnicity and descent if the person is of foreign origin. Through a qualitative framing analysis we examine how the perpetrator in Trollhättan is portrayed in Sweden’s largest news website, namely aftonbladet.se. We explore how the perpetrator's ethnicity and origin are expressed and which of the perpetrator's characteristics are focused on by Aftonbladet. Through framing analysis we also explore how the perpetrator is portrayed from an us-and-them perspective, and how ideas and concepts are personalized through him. The results of this study show that the male perpetrator who is of native origin in the case Trollhättan is portrayed as a lone maniac who committed an act of evil and that Aftonbladet focused on his personal circumstances, for example that he had issues socializing.

    It is widely accepted that animal distribution and migration strategy might have co-evolved in relation to selection pressures exerted by parasites. Here, we first determined the prevalence and types of malaria blood parasites in a breeding population of great reed warblers Acrocephalus arundinaceus using PCR. Secondly, we tested for differences in individual feather stable isotope signatures (δ 13C, δ 15N, δD and δ 34S) to investigate whether malaria infected and non-infected birds had occupied different areas in winter. We show that birds moulting in Afro-tropical habitats with significantly higher δ 13C and δ 15N but lower δD and δ34S values were more frequently infected with malaria parasites. Based on established patterns of isotopic distributions, our results indicate that moulting sites with higher incidence of malaria are generally drier and situated further to the north in West Africa than sites with lower incidence of malaria. Our findings are pertinent to the general hypothesis that animal distribution and particularly avian migration strategy might evolve in response to selection pressures exerted by parasites at different geographic scales. Tradeoffs between investment in energy demanding life history traits (e.g. migration and winter moult) and immune function are suggested to contribute to the particular choice of habitat during migration and at wintering sites.

    Agila Business Intelligence System (ABIS) är en relativt ny och komplex typ av informationssystem, som kännetecknas av förkortade utvecklingstider, genom att exempelvis införa mer självbetjäning i de analytiska systemen, för att kunna möta ett behov av att analysera omvärldsfaktorer, som förändras i en allt snabbare takt. Eftersom ABIS är ett nytt och relativt outforskat område, finns ett behov av att utforska detta område. IT-investeringar är alltför ofta olönsamma och finns ett intresse av att visa på vad som bidrar till ett framgångsrikt införande av ett ABIS och på vilket sätt.

    Syftet med denna fallstudie var att identifiera högt rankade och gemensamma faktorer baserat på de kritiska framgångsfaktorer som belagts av tidigare forskning inom ABIS, beskriva hur dessa bidragit till ett framgångsrikt införande samt utröna skillnader och/eller likheter mellan hur dessa faktorer verkar ur kund- respektive leverantörsperspektiv.

    Som underlag för denna studie användes framför allt tidigare forskning kring kritiska framgångsfaktorer för Business Intelligence System. Speciellt en modell som utvecklades 2010 av Yeoh och Koronios användes som utgångspunkt för att lista de potentiella faktorer, som skulle beaktas av denna studie.

    Denna undersökning genomfördes som en fallstudie med hjälp av ett företag, som både levererar konsulttjänster och ABIS. En Delphipanel användes för att sortera fram framgångsfaktorer, som sedan studerades närmare genom semistrukturerade intervjuer för hur dessa kritiska framgångsfaktorer bidragit till ett framgångsrikt införande av ABIS från dels ett kundperspektiv, dels ett leverantörsperspektiv.

    De två faktorer som rankades högt och samtidigt delades av samtliga respondenter var:

    • affärsvision och planer
    • datakvalitet och dataintegritet

    Kundperspektivet var det styrande och leverantörens roll var ordentligt förstå kundens perspektiv, för att på så sätt framgångsrikt införa ABIS. Affärsvision och planer var av betydelse för att koppla införande till kundens målsättningar. Datakvalitet och dataintegritet var den mest betydelsefull faktorn utifrån den resursfördelningen skedde inom ett införandeprojekt för ABIS.

    Företagens omgivning förändras och blir alltmer komplex. Med omgivningen förändras också perspektiven av företags ägande och intressenterna får en allt större roll. Till intressenter räknas bland annat kunderna in, vilka har visat sig vara en väldigt viktig aktör för banksektorn. Konkurrensen inom banksektorn har ökat med åren och tjänsteutförandet ihop med kundtillfredsställelse har därmed blivit väldigt viktigt för bankerna. Därför har jag valt att studera kundernas ökade betydelse som intressent för banken, tillsammans med hur banken konkurrerar och får sina kunder tillfredsställda.

    Central Macular Thickness in Diabetic Patients: A Gender Based Analysis2014Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

    PURPOSE: To investigate gender differences in central macular thickness (CMT) in underserved diabetic patients who were judged to have clinically significant macular edema (CSME), using the criterion of hard exudates within 1500 microns of the fovea. METHODS: Using EyePACS certified graders, 142 of 2080 diabetic patients from Alameda County, CA, clinics, had CSME as judged from color fundus images (Canon CR6-45NM). Of the 2080 patients, 1784 were imaged with SD-OCT (iVUE). Graders then analyzed the SD-OCT images for hard exudates and macular edema, excluding subjects with poor fixation or other ocular conditions. From these data, 142 patients with CSME, 11 males had CMT >300 microns. The 11 females from the group with the greatest values of CMT were then compared for CMT, and mean age. A control group, diabetic patients without CSME, showed a 12-micron larger CMT for males, as compared with females. Thus, a one-tailed t-test was used to determine if the CMT for males with CSME also was greater than for females by 12 microns. We compared mean age, self-report of duration of diabetes, and HbA1c values between genders. RESULTS: Males with CSME had an average CMT of 377 microns, statistically greater than the 12 micron difference expected between genders, with females averaging 321 microns (p<0.05). There was no statistical significance in the mean age between genders 59.3 vs. 59.2 yr. (p>0.05) or the population HbA1c levels 9.5 vs. 9.3% for males and females (p>0.05), respectively. While females had slightly longer durations of diabetes, Chi square analysis also showed no significance between genders (p>0.05). In the OCT images, males had cysts that were larger and more numerous. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with CSME, males had greater CMT than females. This difference is not explained by differences in thickness with gender when CSME is not found, nor by age or duration of diabetes. Instead, the cystic changes in the retinas of males were more striking.

    Studiens syftet är att undersöka, analysera och diskutera hur två bildlärare på gymnasiet uppfattar den visuella representationen av olika etniciteter i sitt bildval i undervisningen. Insamlingen av data skedde genom två semistrukturerade intervjuer med två gymnasielärare i bild. Datan analyserades utifrån en tematiskt analysmetod. Resultatet visade att båda lärarna uppfattade sig ha en låg visuell representation av olika etniciteter i sin undervisning. Valet av bilder till undervisningen skedde utifrån den vita blicken och ett västerländskt perspektiv där vitheten är dominerande, vilket främjar rådande normer och maktstrukturer. En tvetydighet framkom om var ansvaret för ett breddat etniskt perspektiv i undervisningen ligger.

    Abstract [sv]

    I den här studien analyseras 16 kvinnors självframställningar i antologin Sverige – en (o)besvarad kärlekshistoria ur ett postkolonialt feministiskt perspektiv där mellanförskap och identitet är centrala teman. Syftet med analysen är att finna hur den besvarade alternativt obesvarade kärleken till Sverige blir synliga i författarnas texter och hur det har påverkat dem. Texterna har jämförts med varandra för att finna olika mönster. Framträdande mönster är kritiken av dikotomiskt tänkande, ett tankesätt som har försatt kvinnorna i ett mellanförskap där majoriteten av dem inte känner en besvarad kärlek från Sverige. Kvinnorna har haft olika sätt att hantera sitt mellanförskap. För somliga av dem har det inneburit problem med att känna tillhörighet och för andra har mellanförskapet varit positivt eftersom det har blivit en styrka att se sin identitet som mångkulturell. Vidare ger studien förslag på hur undervisningen på olika sätt kan stärka elever i mellanförskap genom bland annat gemensam litteraturläsning med postkolonial feministisk teori som utgångspunkt.

    Abstract [en]

    Estimation of brain deformation plays an important role in computer-aided therapy and image-guided neurosurgery systems. Tumour growth can cause brain deformation and change stress distribution in the brain. Biomechanical models exist that use a finite element method to estimate brain shift caused by tumour growth. Such models can be categorised as linear and non-linear models, both of which assume finite deformation of the brain after tumour growth. Linear models are easy to implement and fast enough to for applications such as IGS where the time is a great of concern. However their accuracy highly dependent on the parameters of the models in this paper, we proposed an optimisation approach to improve a naive linear model to achieve more precise estimation of brain displacements caused by tumour growth. The optimisation process has improved the accuracy of the model by adapting the brain model parameters according to different tomour sizes.We used patient-based tetrahedron finite element mesh with proper material properties for brain tissue and appropriate boundary conditions in the tumour region. Anatomical landmarks were determined by an expert and were divided into two different sets for evaluation and optimisation. Tetrahedral finite element meshes were used and the model parameters were optimised by minimising the mean square distance between the predicted locations of the anatomical landmarks derived from Brain Atlas images and their actual locations on the tumour images. Our results demonstrate great improvement in the accuracy of an optimised linear mechanical model that achieved an accuracy rate of approximately 92%.

    Abstract [en]

    The rapid development of mobile devices during the recent decade has been greatly driven by interaction and visualization technologies. Although touchscreens have signicantly enhanced the interaction technology, it is predictable that with the future mobile devices, e.g., augmentedreality glasses and smart watches, users will demand more intuitive in-puts such as free-hand interaction in 3D space. Specically, for manipulation of the digital content in augmented environments, 3D hand/body gestures will be extremely required. Therefore, 3D gesture recognition and tracking are highly desired features for interaction design in future smart environments. Due to the complexity of the hand/body motions, and limitations of mobile devices in expensive computations, 3D gesture analysis is still an extremely diffcult problem to solve.

    This thesis aims to introduce new concepts, theories and technologies for natural and intuitive interaction in future augmented environments. Contributions of this thesis support the concept of bare-hand 3D gestural interaction and interactive visualization on future smart devices. The introduced technical solutions enable an e ective interaction in the 3D space around the smart device. High accuracy and robust 3D motion analysis of the hand/body gestures is performed to facilitate the 3D interaction in various application scenarios. The proposed technologies enable users to control, manipulate, and organize the digital content in 3D space.

    Abstract [en]

    By introducing the interactive 3D photo/video browsing and exploration system, we propose novel approaches for handling the limitations of the current 2D mobile technology from two aspects: interaction design and visualization. Our contributions feature an effective interaction that happens in the 3D space behind the mobile device's camera. 3D motion analysis of the user's gesture captured by the device's camera is performed to facilitate the interaction between users and multimedia collections in various applications. This approach will solve a wide range of problems with the current input facilities such as miniature keyboards, tiny joysticks and 2D touch screens. The suggested interactive technology enables users to control, manipulate, organize, and re-arrange their photo/video collections in 3D space using bare-hand, marker-less gesture. Moreover, with the proposed techniques we aim to visualize the 2D photo collection, in 3D, on normal 2D displays. This process is automatically done by retrieving the 3D structure from single images, finding the stereo/multiple views of a scene or using the geo-tagged meta-data from huge photo collections. By using the design and implementation of the contributions of this work, we aim to achieve the following goals: Solving the limitations of the current 2D interaction facilities by 3D gestural interaction; Increasing the usability of the multimedia applications on mobile devices; Enhancing the quality of user experience with the digital collections.

This approach is based on finding the most suitable pattern from the large set of rotational symmetries of different orders which ensures a reliable detector for fingertips and human gesture. Consequently, gesture detection and tracking can be used as an efficient tool for 3D manipulation in various applications in computer vision and augmented reality.

    In this paper we introduce a novel solution for real-time 3D hand gesture analysis using the embedded 2D camera of a mobile device. The presented framework is based on forming a large database of hand gestures including the ground truth information of hand poses and details of finger joints in 3D. For a query frame captured by the mobile device's camera in real time, the gesture analysis system finds the best match from the database. Once the best match is found, the corresponding ground truth information will be used for interaction in the designed interface. The presented framework performs an extremely efficient gesture analysis (more than 30 fps) in flexible lighting condition and complex background with dynamic movement of the mobile device. The introduced work is implemented in Android and tested in Gear VR headset.

    In this paper we consider the task of 3D photo visualization using a single monocular image. The main idea is to use single photos taken by capturing devices such as ordinary cameras, mobile phones, tablet PCs etc. and visualize them in 3D on normal displays. Supervised learning approach is hired to retrieve depth information from single images. This algorithm is based on the hierarchical multi-scale Markov Random Field (MRF) which models the depth based on the multi-scale global and local features and relation between them in a monocular image. Consequently, the estimated depth image is used to allocate the specified depth parameters for each pixel in the 3D map. Accordingly, the multi-level depth adjustments and coding for color anaglyphs is performed. Our system receives a single 2D image as input and provides a anaglyph coded 3D image in output. Depending on the coding technology the special low-cost anaglyph glasses for viewers will be used.

    Abstract [en]

    In this work, we present a technique for efficient and robust estimation of the exact location and orientation of a photo capture device in a large data set. The provided data set includes a set of photos and the associated information from GPS and orientation sensor. This attached metadata is noisy and lacks precision. Our strategy to correct this uncertain data is based on the data fusion between measurement model, derived from sensor data, and signal model given by the computer vision algorithms. Based on the retrieved information from multiple views of a scene we make a grid of images. Our robust feature detection and matching between images result in finding a reliable transformation. Consequently, relative location and orientation of the data set construct the signal model. On the other hand, information extracted from the single images combined with the measurement data make the measurement model. Finally, Kalman filter is used to fuse these two models iteratively and enhance the estimation of the ground truth(GT) location and orientation. Practically, this approach can help us to design a photo browsing system from a huge collection of photos, enabling 3D navigation and exploration of our huge data set.

    In this paper we propose a novel approach for 3D video/photo visualization using an ordinary digital camera. The idea is to turn any 2D camera into 3D based on the data derived from a collection of captured photos or a recorded video. For a given monocular input, the retrieved information from the overlapping photos can be used to provide required information for performing 3D output. Robust feature detection and matching between images is hired to find the transformation between overlapping frames. The transformation matrix will map images to the same horizontal baseline. Afterwards, the projected images will be adjusted to the stereoscopic model. Finally, stereo views will be coded into 3D channels for visualization. This approach enables us making 3D output using randomly taken photos of a scene or a recorded video. Our system receives 2D monocular input and provides double layer coded 3D output. Depending on the coding technology different low cost 3D glasses will be used for viewers.

This database includes the images of various articulated hand gestures with the annotated 3D position/orientation parameters of the hand joints. Our unique matching algorithm is based on the hierarchical scoring of the low-level edge-orientation features between the query frames and database and retrieving the best match. Once the best match is found from the database in each moment, the pre-recorded 3D motion parameters can instantly be used for natural interaction. The proposed bare-hand interaction technology performs in real-time with high accuracy using an ordinary camera.
