    Abstract [en]

    In light of an international policy movement to increase focus on students’ academic achievement, the question of how to improve schools has become an important issue at all levels in the school system. Substantial resources have been invested in reforms to improve conditions for pupils’ learning. Great expectations and responsibility are often placed on teachers in terms of their professional development (PD), the aim being to improve their teaching practices. Consequently, the question of how to evaluate the results of school improvement programmes, including teachers’ PD, has arisen. However, there is a lack of theoretical concepts that can capture the outcomes of such development in a qualified way. Taking inspiration from the research on teachers’ PD and theories relating to teachers’ knowledge and capabilities, the aim of this study is to outline a conceptual framework that can serve as an analytical tool when evaluating both school improvement initiatives in general and school actors’ learning in particular. Four types of learning capital that are intended to reflect the central aspects of teachers’ and school organisations’ learning and the capabilities linked to teaching practice and its development are outlined. This conceptual framework is applied and exemplified based on the results of a three-year research project evaluating a school improvement programme in a Swedish municipality. Finally, some conclusions are drawn regarding the different types of analysis possible with the current conceptual framework related to the evaluation of school improvement efforts.

    General description on research questions, objectives and theoretical framework (600 words)

    In school systems around the world, there is an increasing focus on pupils’ academic achievements and school results. This has resulted in an intensified control of pupils’ levels of achievement (cf. PISA) and increasing demands for school actors and decision-makers to improve schools. In this respect, Sweden is no exception. Ages of declining student achievement, decreased equality between schools have spurred an intensive critique against the Swedish school system and triggered a more state-regulated governing of the school system in terms of several national reforms, which altogether aim to take control over the schools’ outcome (Wahlström & Sundberg, 2017; Adolfsson, 2018). In light of such a policy movement the Local Education Authorities (LEA) and schools’ responsibility for pupils’ achievement and equality have been highlighted and strengthened in Swedish policy. In addition, to ensure the quality of the teaching and the professionalism of the teachers, a revision of the Swedish Education Act was carried out in 2010. This revision stipulated, among other things, that all schools and local school authorities must conduct a systematic improvement work. This had led to a discussion of how school on a local basis can build capacity to improve themselves. In this context, LEA, in the Swedish municipalities, have become important policy actors (Wahlström & Sundberg, 2017b). To strengthen the schools own capacity for improvement, but also to increase the control over the schools’ processes and outcomes, the construction and implementation of different quality systems has been an important strategy for the local education authorities (Adolfsson & Alvunger, 2017; Håkansson & Sundberg, 2016).

    In this paper, we will put this ‘meso-level’, i.e. the relationship between LEA and the schools, in focus. We mean that this is an important, but many times overlooked, relationship when it comes to understand processes and outcomes related to the implementation of local quality systems and school improvement initiatives (Rorrer, Skrla & Scheurich, 2008). Based on an ongoing three-year research project in a major municipality in Sweden, the overall aim is to investigate a LEA: s attempt to implement a new quality system at the schools in the municipality, as a way to control and strengthen the schools’ improvement work. The following research questions are addressed in the paper:

    1. How and which central aspects of the schools’ improvement work tries LEA control and strengthened through the implementation of a new quality system?

    2. In what w   ay do school actors respond to LES’s attempt to implement the quality system?

    3. Which different factors can be distinguished as notably important for the outcome of the implementation process?

    The relationship between the LED and the current schools are understood and analysed from a neo-institutional theoretical perspective (Scott, 2008). From this perspective, three dimensions can be highlighted regarding how institutions (in this case the LED and the current schools) seek to control and affect other institutions, respond to external pressure and seek legitimacy: regulative (rules and sanctions), normative (prevalent norms, expectations and ideals ), and cognitive-cultural/discursive (shared conceptions and frames of meaning-making). This perspective enable us to elucidate the character of the different strategies and actions that LED undertake in the implementation of the new quality model. To understand the implementation processes that occurred at the different schools, theoretical inspiration is acquired from implementation theory (Fixen et al. 2005; Lundquist, 1987; Lipsky, 1980). This theory put analytical focus on central implementation factors such as clarity, school actors knowledge, legitimacy, time, leadership, organisation, school culture etc, which thus help us to understand the result of the implementation processes of the different schools. 

    Methods/methodology (400 words)

    The overall research project, which this specific study is conducted within, has a mixed-method inspired design. The aim with such an approach is to deepening the understanding of the current research questions being addressed through obtaining different, but complementary data on the phenomenon that stand in focus for the study (Cresswell, 2010; Cresswell and Clark, 2007). In this specific sub-study, we have followed the education authority’s implementation process at six different schools in the current municipality. The current schools are located in areas with differences in socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds and each school was followed for a school year, which made it possible to contextually place and understand the implementation process within the structure, organization and culture of the schools.

    In line with the theoretical points of departure and the general aim to elucidate patterns of the local school authority’s implementation of the new quality system and school actors’ understanding and response of the quality system, following methods and empirical data have been used. i) content analysis of central policy documents ii)  observations (n=xx) iii) 24 semi-structured interviews with key actors at the different schools (n=50). Accordingly, an extensive empirical material have been collected. To conduct a contextual understanding of each school, central documents regarding the local schools’ organisation, policy and vision, leading and management structure, pupils’ achievement, school improvement strategies were at a first step analysed. This contextual understanding was important for the next step, when data related to LEA implementation of the new quality system at the single schools were collected. This was carried out through participating observations at the different kinds of meetings that occurred amongst LEA and the current schools. Finally, as a way to deepen the understanding of the school actors’ response to the new quality system, semi-structured interviews with central key actors at the single school were carried out.

     

    Expected outcomes (300 words)

    The relationship between the LEA and the schools will finally be discussed and problematized in light of the following preliminary results:

    -          The implementation of the quality system occurred through a number of steps: 1. an introduction meeting between represents from the LEA and key actors from the schools 2. a quality dialogue two months later and 3. a quality seminary arranged by the LEA where the principals from the involving schools were participating. In contrast to a more traditional ‘regulative’ strategy of governing the schools, the LEA’s implementation of the current quality system, in terms of these different activities, was characterized by a more normative and discursive way of controlling the schools’ improvement work (i.e. soft governance).

    -          We could distinguish a variety in the initial stage of the implementation process regarding in what degree the school actors consider the LEA’s quality system as legitimate. The same variety between the schools was notably concerning how they perceived the idea and the purpose behind the new quality system but also how LEA’s system should be incorporated with their own local quality systems.

    -          Factors that may explain these differences in the implementation process is firstly, a notably ‘knowledge-gap’, that existed between the schools. That is, principals and other key actors’ knowledge and competencies about local systematic quality work in terms of, for example, data collection, interpretation and using different methods of analysis, seem to be crucial for the implementation process. A second crucial factor seems to be how the principals organized his or her school improvement work, including delegation of responsibility and how different school actors’ knowledge and competencies were used in an appropriate way.

    Även om ”en skola på vetenskaplig grund” idag är ett högaktuellt ämne är det ingalunda något nytt fenomen. I artikeln studeras tendenser i policyinitiativ som de senaste 25 åren haft till syfte att forskningsbasera den svenska skolan. Utgångspunkt tas i de problembilder som framkommer i policy samt vilka modeller för forskningsbasering som samtidigt lyfts fram som lösningen på dessa problem. Resultatet pekar mot att det de senaste 25 år har skett en succesiv förskjutning från indirekta till mer direkta initiativ. Under 1990-talet och det tidiga 2000-talet var många policyinitiativ ordnade utifrån att främst vilja skapa de rätta förutsättningarna för en forskningsbasering av skolan. Under 2000-talet blir initiativen alltmer fokuserade och ambitiös med syfte att åstadkomma direkta förändringar i lärares undervisning. När det kommer till modeller för forskningsbasering blir det samtidigt alltmer tydligt hur policy vänder sig till och söker legitimitet hos delvis nya aktörer och institutioner, som exempelvis hälso-sjukvården. Med detta går det också att urskilja en insnävning vad gäller att definiera och innehållsligt välja ut vilken forskning som bör sprids till skolans aktörer. Konsekvensen med en sådan modell för forskningsbasering menar vi kan bli att läraren främst får inta rollen som passiva mottagare av forskning.

    Problem och Syfte: Globalisering har idag medfört att produktion och andra processer inom företag har förlagts i olika länder runt om i världen. Svenska textilföretag gör inköp främst från Asien och oftast ägs inte fabrikerna av företagen utan de har sin produktion placerad hos olika leverantörer. Negativa händelser inom textilindustrin kopplat till arbetsvillkor, miljö och djurskydd har under årens lopp avlöst varandra och högre krav på att företagen ska ta ett större ansvar i etiska och sociala frågor ställdes från olika intressenter. Dock medför antalet leverantörer tillsammans med andra faktorer som kulturella skillnader komplikationer inom uppföljningen av ställda krav. Huvudfokus i studien är att identifiera möjliga verktyg för att styra och kontrollera leverantörerna i etiska frågor. Vidare undersöks vilka svårigheter anställda i företagen upplever med styrningen och kontrollen vilket vi relaterar till intressenters krav värderingar och företagens strävan att leva upp till dessa. Slutligen kommer textilföretagens affärsrelation till leverantörerna undersökas och vad har de för betydelse för styrningsarbetet.

    Metod: Undersökningen är av kvalitativ karaktär där en abduktiv ansats tillämpats. Totalt genomfördes sex intervjuer för insamling av primärdata. Fem utgjordes av medelstora och stora företag inom textilbranschen och återstående med en universitetslärare på textilhögskolan i Borås. Ett utav de ledande textilföretagen inom CSR är H&M där insamlad information kommer från deras hemsida vilken ger uttömmande svar angående deras arbete inom området.

    Slutsats: Studien har identifierat nio verktyg företagen använder och kan använda sig av i arbetet med att styra och kontrollera leverantörerna i etiska frågor. Upplevda svårigheter angav anställda i företagen vara kulturella skillnader och geografiskt avstånd vilket leder till att intressenters krav och förväntningar blir svåra att leva upp till. Verktygen i studien som framkommit tillsammans med att bygga nära och långsiktiga relationer kan bidra till att skapa en verksamhet som lever upp till intressenters värderingar.

    Abstract [en]

    The Swedish tradition ”Valborgsmässoafton” is a holiday on which many people choose to get drunk. The risk that teenagers run around town while being intoxicated is huge and Kalmar municipality have, three years ago, created an event that contributes to a sober alternative. This alternative is the one-day festival “Fullt Ös” which is striving to get as many drunken teenagers off the streets, during this holiday, as possible.

    The event is successful among school students in the ages of 12 to 15 but has had less fortune in reaching the high school students in the ages of 15 to 18. Our thesis aims to help Kalmar municipality to adapt the festival, which occurs annually on the 30th of April, to become more attractive for high school students. This by doing quantitative and qualitative studies among the public high schools in Kalmar and by extension to already established theories.

    The results that we have gathered have all been compiled in this thesis and we have received the information that it takes big changes to attract the older target group that the municipality wants to reach. We have, therefore, compiled some advice to the municipality that will help them understand how they can improve a good initiative, by for example creating a festival that centers around live music, so that more high school students would gather to it.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose: The purpose of this study has been to identify different actors and processes in music recording. We find this interesting since there have been a lot of changes in the music industry over the last years. Our ambition has been to point out different actors and their roles during the advent of recorded music, and identify different features and processes in the creation of music today and in the future. To fulfill our purpose we have had the following research question: What characterize, in a future perspective, the gathered process during the creation of recorded music from idea to delivery and experience?

    Method: We have used a qualitative approach for this study and we have conducted seven interviews with persons from different areas of the Music Industry and radio. These seven interviews gave us foundations for our analysis. We choose the qualitative method to come closer and get a deeper understanding of the studied topic.

    Conclusion: In the final chapter we present our conclusions of the study. We have found that there have been some changes of the traditional process and for the different actors that participate within the process of recorded music. We have identified that there are new opportunities for an artist and musicians to get a breakthrough in a business that are characterized of hard competition, since there are a lot of music in the market today. Another conclusion we have drawn is that the consumer has gained more power and contribute to the process through that they require more and more access to the artist. The underlying reasons for this change, and also for the transfer of power to the costumers, are the development of the technology which has forced the music business to adapt their business models to this change.

    The use of online personalized advertisements has drawn attention among firms, in efforts of acquiring and maintaining competitive advantage. By collecting individual consumer information, firms are able to personalize advertisements to specific individuals in online contexts.

    The collection and use of individuals’ personal information have given rise to privacy concerns among consumers. However, contemporary research displays disparate conclusions regarding the extent to which these privacy concerns influence the effectiveness of online personalized advertisements. In order to provide insights regarding this discrepancy, this study explored the theoretical foundations of consumer perceived benefits and risks, upon which contemporary research was based.

    Two focus groups were conducted to explore how consumers perceive benefits and risks of online personalized advertisements. Using pattern matching, the interpretation of the empirically gathered material implied that consumer perceived benefits, in form of perceived relevance, appears to be insufficient in appealing to the interests and preferences of consumers. Instead, consumers’ perceptions of relevance appear to be dependent on several elements.

    Furthermore, the findings imply that consumers are aware of the risks through personal information disclosure, yet appear to be unconcerned by them. Instead, consumers seem to possess a sense of hopelessness in online environments, that attempts to restrict the availability of their personal information are pointless.

    Syftet med studien var i första hand att studera ungdomars upplevelse av makt över sin framtid direkt efter avslutad gymnasietid. Med en enkätundersökning undersöktes 85 ungdomar i årskurs 3 på gymnasieskolans omvårdnadsprogram, samhälls­vetenskapliga program, tekniska program, handelsprogram och naturvetenskapliga program gällande variablerna personlig attityd, subjektiva normer (socialt tryck) och upplevd kontroll. 

    Ingen skillnad framkom mellan yrkes- eller studieförberedande program i attityd till beteende, däremot framkom skillnader vid jämförelse mellan de olika programmen, eleverna på omvårdnadsprogrammet hade en statistiskt signifikant mer positiv attityd till det egna beteendet jämfört med det naturvetenskapliga programmet. En signifikant skillnad framkom också mellan könen i attityd till beteende och upplevd kontroll där tjejerna värderade dessa variabler högre.

    Resultatet kan förklaras med att det bland flickor ses som mer acceptabelt att studera medan killarna snarare riskerar att få en låg status om de fokuserar för mycket på skolan. Då det i denna studie framkommer att attityden till det egna beteendet var en bra bit över medelvärdet visar den på att en positiv attityd till att det egna beteendet är viktigt. De subjektiva normerna visade att den sociala pressen inte var så stark hos respondenterna vilket är positivt då det visar att eleverna inte upplever sig styrda av den egna sociala gruppen.

    Syftet med studien är att belysa förskollärares uppfattningar kring vad fysisk aktivitet kan ha för betydelse för barns utveckling, samt hur de arbetar för att främja fysisk aktivitet och hur de ser på inne-och utemiljöns betydelse i förskolan. De frågeställningar vi vill undersöka är, vilka uppfattningar förskollärare har kring vad fysisk aktivitet kan ha för betydelse för barns utveckling, hur förskollärarna beskriver att de arbetar för att främja fysisk aktivitet i förskolans verksamhet samt hur förskollärarna beskriver inne- och utemiljöernas påverkan på den fysiska aktiviteten. Studien bygger på en kvalitativ ansats och baseras på fem olika intervjuer med förskollärare på olika förskolor. I resultatet framkommer det att förskolemiljön ses som ett viktigt redskap samt att förskollärarnas egna förhållningssätt är två viktiga komponenter för att främja den fysiska aktiviteten. Utomhusmiljön ses som den plats som främjar den fysiska aktiviteten mest, medan inomhusmiljön i många fall var mer begränsad. Samtliga förskollärare uppfattade att den fysiska aktiviteten kunde ha olika effekter på barns utveckling. De effekter som framkom i resultatet var bland annat bättre koncentrationsförmåga samt att barn mår bättre av att utöva fysisk aktivitet.

    Bakrund:I Sverige har självskadebeteende hos kvinnor i åldrarna 15-24 år ökat avsevärt sedan 90-talet fram till 2007. Självskadebeteende definieras med att medvetet skada sin egen kropp. Det kan upplevas som ångestlindrande men många har också i avsikt att ta sitt eget liv. Syfte: Syftet är att belysa unga kvinnors upplevelser av att leva med självskadebeteende. Metod: Studien har gjorts med en kvalitativ ansats med ett livsvärldsperspektiv och baseras på fem bloggar. Bloggarna analyserades med hjälp av Graneheim och Lundman innehållsanalys (2004). Resultat: Ur resultatet framkom fem kategorier som beskriver de unga kvinnornas känslor av att leva med ett självskadebeteende. De fem kategorierna är att uppleva ångest, trygghet, uppgivenhet och smärta, samt att i efterhand begrunda sin situation. Slutsats: Ur reslutatet framkom att de vanligaste förekommande känslorna i samband med självskadebeteende är ångest, smärta, ensamhet och uppgivenhet. Kvinnorna beskriver att de vill göra den psykiska smärtan fysisk. Självskadebeteende kan även ses som ett beroende. Som sjuksköterska är det viktigt att ta del av kvinnans livsvärld för att kunna möte henne på bästa sätt.

    Abstract [en]

    A process of change like the building-up of sustainable societies can be visualised as four steps: to know, to be able, to want and to do. To pay attention to the appropriate measures and the best solutions implies a wide range of knowledge of natural and societal conditions. But to make it possible to realize them, there has to be space of action including physical tools (technique, money etc.), as well as desire and courage among the participants and decision-makers to act towards sustainability. The most important prerequisites for sustainable development are considered to be appropriate natural resources management and public participation. In this thesis I concentrate on the possibilities of modifying administration at local levels in order to economise resources in durable ways, locally as well as globally. In some case studies I examine to what extent local Agenda 21 (LA21) processes can facilitate this realization.

    In developing more sustainable societies I emphasise the following aspects to be among the most relevant: Society has to prepare for unexpected outcomes, thus the apparent unpredictability of the behaviour of ecosystems and their response to impacts have to be taken into account in planning and in making decisions. Moreover, it has to be discussed what to do if aims are reached without obtaining the expected recovery in the ecosystems and in the natural situation. Environmental space and function should more often be used as a basis when managing natural resource. Finally, the interplay beween the central and the local levels should be enhanced in order to choose the most relevant measures and to strive in the same direction: towards creating more flexible societies.

    The LA21 processes can very well be excellent tools in this work because they provide platforms for better understanding and exchange of knowledge and experience among different levels of society. These discussions can make the participants more willing to take actions as well as to find new solutions and new ways acting.

    The case studies show that the first steps towards more sustainable societies are taken. The support for LA21 given by the local governments has been and is absolutely vital to the progress and results of the processes. The most progressive results are found in the municipalities of the case study where top-level politicians have been most interested and have taken on the responsibility of LA21. My main conclusions of how the LA21 processes and the striving towards sustainability could be improved are that goals and visions should be discussed more thoroughly involving many parts of society. More and more these visions and objectives should observe the connections between environmental, economic and social issues. Furthermore, measures and actions should be diversified and flexible, and co-operation across administrative borders should be developed. It is also essential to formulate strategies of how to deal with up-coming ideas and proposals as well as how to increase the level of influence of all participants. In order to improve the handling of natural resources the kind of resource and the functions making it one has to be identified. To choose the most appropriate measures it is important to know if the resource is vital and scarce, scarce, or poisonous and/or if its use may cause pollution.

    Paper I comprises the frame of and the tools for developing the local system in Sweden in the direction of global sustainability. Swedish municipalities have taken the first steps towards sustainability mainly through local Agenda 21 processes. Environmental issues have a prominent role in the decision-making of the local governments, but social and economic topics are not connected to decisions on sustainable development to the same extent. How to proceed at the local level is discussed in this paper as is the national frame and local prerequisities for achieving sustainable development. This article states that most important factors, when creating sustainable societies, are active, high-level politicians and officials, a structured process with co-operation aiming at including all stakeholders' real influence, increased knowledge among all participants, positive thinking, feedback and information, money and much time. To use limited projects as one of the first steps of a more comprehensive process may attract more inhabitants to take part. Their results can be shown quite rapidly, further encouraging actions and involvement in other areas of interest.

    The papers II and III are based on a five-year study of the LA21 processes in four Swedish municipalities. In Paper II the LA21 of two of the chosen municipalities are analysed. Comparisons between attitudes among local politicians and officials and LA21 documents and projects indicate that the most important issues, to protect clean air and to co-operate with the inhabitants in LA21, are followed up in plans, actions and projects connected to LA21. The local governments have made efforts to improve the natural resources management, to prolong the views of planning in the local government, but they have difficulties in interpreting visions and long-term goals in their daily decisions. It is still too early to discern whether or not the two municipalities have moved towards sustainability.

    Paper III includes results from all four municipalities. This study shows that the LA21 processes have aroused many new thoughts, brought fields together and introduced new subjects into the municipal world. In the decisions of the local govemments' environmental considerations are treated seriously. There are signs of an increased dialogue and of public influence, especially within fields where the inhabitants are users. It is indicated that LA21 does not seem to have great influence on which natural resources are dealt with, but on how. New stakeholders within and outside the municipal organization have been identified through the LA21 processes, and more comprehensive ways of solving problems and a positive climate of testing new ideas have been created. In these respects LA21 has been and will be a significant support to the development of appropriate natural resources management at the local level.

    In Paper IV a part of a local Agenda 21 project aiming at reducing the nutrient supply into a Swedish Baltic Sea fjord is analysed. The reduction is to be carried out in way that permits and facilitates the re-use of the nutrients as fertilizers. This article is focused on how to implement the project and on how to increase public participation, especially that of farmers and owners of houses of single sewage treatment systems. Increased public participation needs continuous efforts by the project leaders. Indivdual as well as group actions, forming of small groups, information, feedback and continous encouragement are crucial. The homogenous group of farmers considers the management of natural resources very important. They have voluntarily formed five watercourse groups where community management is developed. The owners of houses of single sewage treatment systems form a heterogeneous group. They are mostly interested in individual measures. Constant changes of the prerequisites of sewage systems and lack of knowledge are other obstacles against carrying out voluntary measure.

    Bakgrund:Regeringens mål är att fler ska våga starta egna företag och att fler företagare ska våga satsa för att växa. I Lissabonprogrammet står det att man vill skapa ett europeiskt mervärde där små och medelstora företag måste få bättre tillgång till kapital och lån så att de kan utveckla hela sin potential. Vi har via tidigare forskning och egna erfarenheter sett att småföretag ofta har svårt att hitta rätt finansieringsform.

     Syfte: Vårt syfte är att beskriva hur våra undersökta småföretag finansierar sitt ökade kapitalbehov samt att beskriva de finansieringsproblem företagen upplever.

    I huvudsyftet ingår följande frågeställningar:

    ”Hur finansierar småföretag sitt ökade kapitalbehov?”

    ”Vilka finansieringssvårigheter har småföretag i Sverige vid ett ökat kapitalbehov?”

    Avgränsningar: Vi har undersökt tre svenska småföretag för att se hur de finansierar sin verksamhet och vilka finansieringssvårigheter de upplever.

    Metod: Vi har genomfört en flerfallstudie med tre småföretag. Vi har använt oss av semistrukturerade intervjuer bestående av en serie öppna frågor som bygger på en förutbestämd intervjuguide kring vårt tema. Vidare har vi använt oss av fallföretagens årsredovisningar.

    Resultat, slutsatser: I vår undersökning har vi sett att våra småföretag helst vill använda sig av egna medel, d.v.s. finansiera sig enligt ”pecking order”-modellen. Det egna kapitalet underlättar för företagen att bibehålla sin självständighet och säkerställer att man har kvar kontrollen i företaget. Däremot så räcker oftast inte de egna medlen till och därmed behöver företagen använda sig av externt kapital. Då alla våra företag har en etablerad kontakt med sina banker anser de inte att det skulle vara några problem att erhålla nya banklån om investeringen verkar lönsam. Däremot är småföretagen försiktiga med att låna externt kapital då det medför ovillkorliga utbetalningar i form av ränta och amorteringar. Vi har sett att istället för att använda sig av externt kapital väljer småföretagen bort vissa investeringar vilket går emot regeringens målsättning.

    Förslag till fortsatt forskning: Vi har i vårt uppsatsarbete funnit att de småföretag vi undersökt upplever stora svårigheter vid ansökning av bidrag. Därför anser vi att det skulle vara intressant med en fortsatt forskning om hur bidragssystemet för småföretag i dag är uppbyggt och hur man skulle kunna förenkla för småföretag vid bidragssökande.

    Studiens syfte var att få en ökad förståelse av pedagogers arbete med barn med svårigheter inom autismspektrat. I studien redogörs och analyseras pedagogernas erfarenheter utifrån olika aspekter med koppling till betydelsen av kunskap och kompetens gällande uppdraget att kunna möta dessa barn. Data samlades in från öppna intervjuer som sedan tolkades och analyserades. De sammanfattande resultaten visade bland annat att kunskap och erfarenheter gav betydande effekter i arbetet med dessa barn. Stimulerande arbetsmetoder och rutiner gav också positiva effekter där lyhördhet, trygghet och stabilitet främjades. Vi hoppas att studien ska kunna gynna framtida pedagoger.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study was to investigate how former pupils in a daycareschool experienced there stay, in relation to the ordinary school. The method we used was an qualitative interview study with former pupils of a daycareschool. We have analyzed the result with help of Goffmans theory about stigma, Beckers labeling theory, Antonovskys SOC (a Sense Of Coherence) concept and Gjaerums theory of controlling. After analyzing the results we came to the conclution that the pupils where stigmatized and labeled as deviants in the ordinary school whilst in the daycareschool they got an enhanced SOC and a feeling of control. Due to the daycareschool’s work with these pupils they no longer sees as stigmatized and labeled.

    Syftet med studien är att bidra med kunskap om vilka möjligheter och utmaningar som kan finnas på de yngsta barnens förskolegård. Syftet är även att ta reda på hur väl bedömningsverktyget för miljövärdering  OPEC (outdoor play envoirment categories) kan användas för att identifiera möjligheter, utmaningar samt utvecklingsområden på de yngsta barnens förskolegård. De frågeställningar vi utgår ifrån är:

    • Vad anser pedagogerna vara möjligheter och utmaningar med sin förskolegård?
    • Vilka likheter och skillnader går att identifiera mellan pedagogernas uppfattningar om förskolegården och uppmätt OPEC- värde?
    • Hur skiljer sig uppfattningarna om förskolegården bland pedagogerna?

    Som teoretisk grund för studien ligger miljöpsykologi och ett sociokulturellt perspektiv, där begreppen affordance och artefakter är centrala. Som metod för att få svar på frågeställningarna har OPEC-mätningar genomförts på två förskolegårdar samt intervjuer av pedagoger som arbetar med de yngsta barnen på dessa förskolegårdar.

     

    Resultatet visar att de yngsta barnens förskolegård kan erbjuda olika möjligheter, både utifrån yttre omständigheter men även utifrån hur pedagogerna väljer att utforma och arbeta med utomhusmiljön. På olika gårdar finns olika utmaningar, men ett gemensamt tema är att det kan vara svårt att anpassa gården för de yngsta utan att det påverkar de äldre barnens lek. Bedömningsverktyget OPECs kategorier för miljövärdering stämde endast till viss del överens med pedagogernas uppfattningar om förskolegården. Resultatet tyder på att OPEC i sig självt inte bör användas för att bedöma kvalitén på de yngsta barnens förskolegård, eller för att identifiera möjligheter, utmaningar och utvecklingsområden.

    I denna systematiska litteraturstudie undersöks lärares relationsfrämjande arbete och hur lärare-elev-relationer påverkar lärandefaktorer som elevers motivation och prestation samt huruvida dessa relationer förändras över tid. Syftet är att ta reda på hur lärare kan arbeta för att etablera goda relationer till sina elever, hur dessa relationer påverkar lärandefaktorer som elevers motivation och prestation samt huruvida de förändras över tid och vad det i så fall ger för effekt på lärandet. Denna uppsats är en systematisk litteraturstudie, och således har informationen samlats in från vetenskapliga artiklar och avhandlingar som behandlar området. Artiklarna har sökts fram via universitetets databaser, och genom dessas resultat har denna studies frågeställningar besvarats. Resultatet har vidare delats upp i tre delar i relation till studiens frågeställningar. Fokus har huvudsakligen legat på aspekter som främjar lärare-elev-relationers positiva utveckling, och vidare hur dessa påverkar lärandefaktorer positivt, men även hur de kan påverkas negativt.

    Denna studie syftar till att undersöka vilka kognitiva och metakognitiva strategier elever i en årskurs 3 beskriver sig använda för att förstå text. Eftersom lässtrategier kan ge elever möjlighet att få förståelse för det som läses, fördjupa sig i text samt kontrollera sin läsförståelse är det angeläget att undersöka elevers användning av lässtrategier. Den teoretiska utgångspunkten för studien är modellen Reading as a Meaning-Constructed Process: The Reader (Ruddell & Unrau, 2013). Studiens material består av intervjusvar från 14 elever i en årskurs 3. Ett individuellt möte har genomförts av studiens författare med varje elev. Det individuella mötet har bestått av en läsaktivitet följt av en semistrukturerad intervju. Samtliga elevintervjuer har spelats in via röstinspelning och transkriberats. Transkriptionerna av intervjusvaren har kategoriserats i en innehållsanalys med kategorierna kognitiva strategier och metakognitiva strategier. Resultatet visar att eleverna beskriver sig använda de kognitiva strategierna att söka efter ledtrådar, göra textkopplingar och skapa inre bilder. Resultatet visar även att eleverna beskriver sig använda de metakognitiva strategierna att läsa om, läsa långsamt, läsa vidare och gå tillbaka, hoppa över och ta extern hjälp. Denna studie lyfter fram lässtrategiers betydelse för elevers läsförståelse redan i tidigare år i grundskolan samt vikten av undervisning i lässtrategier för elevers framtida skolframgångar.

    Denna studie syftar till att synliggöra karakteristiska drag på lexikal nivå i narrativa texter skrivna av elever utan lässvårigheter samt likheter och skillnader på lexikal nivå mellan texter skrivna av elever utan och i lässvårigheter. Att undersöka skrivande på lexikal nivå hos elever utan lässvårigheter i jämförelse med elever i lässvårigheter är angeläget mot bakgrund av att både den språkliga förmågan och läsförmågan (däribland den lexikala kunskapen) utgör centrala komponenter i skrivandet. Studien tar sin teoretiska utgångspunkt i den interna processnivån i Chenoweth och Hayes (2001) modell av skrivprocessen: A Model of Written Language Production. Tjugofyra texter skrivna av elever utan lässvårigheter har analyserats utifrån fem olika mått på lexikal nivå: antal ord, lexikal densitet, adjektivdensitet, lexikal variation och andel felstavade ord. Medelvärden för dessa mått har beräknats. Som jämförelsematerial användes motsvarande lexikala mått för 40 elever i lässvårigheter i Levlin och Waldmann (2017). Statistiska analyser har genomförts för att fastställa signifikanta skillnader mellan elevgrupperna. Det övergripande resultatet som framkommer är att elever utan lässvårigheter uppvisar en högre lexikal nivå än elever i lässvårigheter. Det finns signifikanta skillnader mellan elevgrupperna för antal ord, adjektivdensitet, lexikal variation och andel felstavade ord. Lexikal densitet uppvisar däremot ingen signifikant skillnad mellan elevgrupperna. Våra resultat visar på att det är viktigt att inkludera stöttning av elevers läsförmågor i skrivundervisningen då läsförmågan är en betydande komponent i skrivutvecklingen.

    This study, based on the sociocultural perspective, aims to show the significance of motivation and feedback concerning pupils with writing problems. The study was based on a writing task which lasted every school day for five weeks. Observations were made during the interventions and along with a survey they create the result. Eighteen pupils in fourth grade from two rural schools participated in the study and in each class were pupils who had special needs education previously. Pupils from school A wrote, read the text to and were given feedback by, a teacher. Pupils from school B wrote, read the text to and were given feedback by a dogassisted teacher. A dogassisted teacher has a living tool, who by the presence only, gives an entry to the pupil’s mind which can be hard for a teacher to achieve oneself. The pupil feels acknowledged by the dog and accept the feedback in a positive way thus the review might be experienced as negative. The study shows that a school dog enforces the confidence by letting the pupil be superior to the dog and at the same time the pupil embraces what the teacher delivers with the voice of the dog. The results of the study show that both pupils in school A and B experienced increased motivation and pleasure in writing. Charts and tests can provide answers regarding the cause of the difficulties but the real challenge is to develop various ways to work that encounters and suits every single pupil. There has been a wish not to pit methods or motivational efforts against each other, rather to find various success factors for pupils with special needs. Because of pupils diversity and hence the teachers methods need to offer alternatives. One of these alternatives could be dogassisted teaching because the study shows that The dog is more that man’s best friend – it could also be the best teacher.

    The aim of this study was to investigate how the authorities; Social Services, Police and the Office of public prosecutor co-operate with the voluntary organization; Unga KRIS in the matter of young offenders. The purpose was also to investigate the conditions, possibilities, vices and difficulties in the cooperation between the operators. This study was based on six semi-structured interviews with representative from all four operators. The empirical material has been analyzed through a new institutional theory which focuses on values and norms in an organization.

     

    The result of this study showed that there were a lot of conditions and possibilities too co-operate between the operators such as through personal contacts. Further the result illustrated a number of difficulties for example that the authorities’ different laws don’t connect. The result showed that there exist vices such as sporadic communication between the authorities and the voluntary organization; Unga KRIS.

    Abstract [en]

    In order to stay competitive and to be the first choice for customers in a world driven by a high level of competitive advantage, it is important for companies to stay ahead of the competition by conducting thorough market research. Even if this tends to be the case, many products still fail when reaching the market, leaving companies with great losses. The reason for this could be that the development of existing research methods has stagnated, or that they simply lack the ability to find the true answer as to what intentions underlie consumer’s decision making when shopping. Many believe that a new method is desired in order to get a better picture of what customers really think. As a solution to the problem, researchers are using a mix of neuroscience and marketing in order to get into the customers minds. Therefore, this study seeks to create knowledge about the new emerging trend called neuromarketing and its potential as a complement or substitute to surveys, interviews and focus groups. In order to achieve this purpose, relevant theory was collected and compared to the empirical data from focus group studies that were conducted. Findings show that scanning customers’ brains, for now, cannot fully substitute surveys, interviews or focus groups, since each have their own investigational characteristics. This could although change as neuromarketing still is in an early development stage and researchers believe that the method has good future potential. Although neuromarketing cannot be seen as a substitute for now, it still has its advantages compared to surveys, interviews and focus groups. We therefore see that scanning of the brain could be used as a sufficient complement to the other methods through triangulation if companies can afford it.

    This study aims to examine the EU’s normative power through the Common Commercial Policy (CCP) before and after the Treaty of Lisbon entered into force. The study is a comparative study and was carried out through a document study of official documents and treaties. To pursue the aim the following questions were asked: What are the differences and similarities within the EU's common trade policy before and after the introduction of the Treaty of Lisbon and does the Treaty of Lisbon increased the normative ambition of the EU?

     

    In this study Ian Manners theory Normative Power Europe has been categorized into direct normative actions and indirect normative actions. The empirical material is based on literature, primary document, Official Journal of the European Union and EU: s webpage.

     

    The conclusions of this study show that the Treaty of Lisbon has changed the constitutional basis for the common commercial policy in several ways. The CCP has more room after the Treaty of Lisbon to develop and take on direct normative actions. The major difference is that the CCP now endorse all the Union’s objectives, principles and values which give the CCP more opportunities to set normative requirements and gain normative power.

    With this thesis, there is a will to find a greater understanding of fans and how they relate to their favorite band. The purpose is to look into how dedicated fans relationships looks like towards their favorite band and what such a relationship can mean for the fan.

    This thesis has been conducted as a case study of fans of the swedish rock band Kent and is based on a qualitative empiricism of qualitative interviews with twelve fans of the band Kent. With this, the hope is to create a deeper understanding for the subject. The approach has been abductive, that is, the thesis has switched between inductive and deductive approaches.

    With the help of empirical and theoretical analysis, we have found out that the relationship fans have to a band, is often of parasocial character. We also saw that loyalty and brand culture can strengthen the relationship. Being a fan is a feeling and a community towards other fans and is often a part of the relationship with the band. Some fans also exert their fandom through various forms of semiotic productivity. Being a fan often becomes a part of a person’s identity and music experiences like listening to music and concerts can have a valuable place in fans’ lives.

    Bakgrund: I Sverige drabbas ungefär 20 kvinnor av bröstcancer varje dag och nästan hälften har genomgått en mastektomi. En av sjuksköterskans uppgifter är att ge stöd för att förbättra kvinnans livskvalitet, då kvinnan ska uppleva ett gott liv med harmoni i sig själv och sin omgivning.Studien förankrades i Katie Erikssons lidandeteori.

     

    Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva hur en mastektomi till följd av bröstcancer kan påverka kvinnors livskvalitet.

     

    Metod: En systematisk litteraturstudie med induktiv ansats har använts. Datainsamlingen resulterade i 17 artiklar som sedan kvalitetsgranskades. Totalt ingick 14 artiklar. En manifest innehållsanalys genomfördes.

     

    Resultat: Resultatet utgörs av fyra huvudkategorier: Operationens fysiska och psykiska konsekvenser, Förändrade relationer, Inverkan av det kosmetiska resultatet med tre tillhörande underkategorier samt Acceptansens betydelse. En mastektomi leder till både fysiska och psykiska påfrestningar som påverkar livskvaliteten. Förmågan att skapa relationer försämrades. Många kvinnor upplevde bröstförlusten som påfrestande genom att kroppsuppfattningen, kvinnligheten och sexualiteten påverkades negativt. Äldre kvinnor accepterade förlusten lättare.

     

    Slutsats: Kvinnor som genomgått en mastektomi upplevde sämre livskvalitet där förlorandet av bröstet spelar stor roll. De drabbas emotionellt och förlusten har betydelse för livskvaliteten. Resultatet kan ge en ökad förståelse för sjuksköterskor som i sin tur kan vara ett stöd för att lindra lidande.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of the study was to gain a deeper understanding of the administrative officials work with assessments in home studies of adoption. To answer the purpose, we chose to focus on the guidelines for administrative official’s assessments in home studies of adoption and what assessment areas that is fundamental to the administrative official’s assessments. The study is structured on the basis of a qualitative approach where we have used semi-structured interviews. We interviewed seven administrative officials in the social services which conducted home studies of adoption. The interviews were conducted in different municipalities in order to demonstrate that the result does not depend on local circumstances. We can however say that administrative officials in the various municipalities had close cooperation among themselves, which resulted in that the local factor could have some impact on the result. We have analysed the results based on theories of discretion and the street-level bureaucracy. We have in this study concluded that all administrative officials used the same guidelines and almost all of the administrative officials used the same investigation method. Even though all the administrative officials emanated from the same guidelines and though almost all of the seven administrative officials also used the same investigating method, we discovered in the results and analysis section that the implementation in home studies of adoption may differ between administrative officials in the various municipalities. We have interpreted this result as a consequence based on how each administrative official uses their discretion. Furthermore we found that the administrative officials did not think that there was one assessment area that was more important. There are a number of areas that are important to consider which depends on the applicant's background.

    SAMMANFATTNING:

    Bakgrund: Endometrios är en sjukdom som drabbar 10% av livmoderbärande kvinnor över hela världen. Att lida av endometrios kan innebära symtom som kraftig bäckensmärta, kraftiga blödningar, dyspareuni och infertilitet.

    Syfte: Beskriva kvinnors erfarenheter av att leva med symtomgivande endometrios.

    Metod: En systematisk litteraturstudie har använts. 10 artiklar valdes ut, kvalitetsgranskades och analyserades.

    Resultat: I resultatet framkom olika kategorier som beskriver kvinnornas olika erfarenheter av att leva med endometrios. Det handlade om erfarenheter av fysiska symtom, erfarenheter av möten i vården, emotionella erfarenheter och erfarenheter av sociala relationer.

    Slutsats: Studien visade att endometrios påverkade kvinnorna fysiskt, psykiskt och socialt. Kvinnornas liv påverkades av sjukdomen på många sätt och gjorde att de kände sig begränsade i vardagen. Den långa tiden för att få en diagnos fastställd orsakade vårdlidande. Kvinnorna möttes av misstro från vården där symtomen avfärdades som kvinnoproblem. Kvinnornas känslor växlade under sjukdomstiden, allt mellan hopp och förtvivlan inför framtiden.

    Background: The childhood vaccination program is the most successful medical response to public health. Despite this, there have always been negative voices about vaccination. Information about childhood vaccinations is spread quickly and easily through media and information channels, such as Facebook and YouTube. This information is not always critically reviewed and suspected sideeffects may then be overestimated. Evidence shows that there is a variety of reasons why some parents have doubt about childhood vaccination. Child Health nurse's task is to meet all parents with respect and give correct information so the parents have a decision basis for vaccination.

    A lack of communication between the Child Health nurse and the parents can contribute to increased concern, which may lead to the parents choosing to abstain from vaccination.

    Aim: The aim was to describe Child Health nurse's experiences of communicating with parents before childhood vaccinations.

    Method: Semi-structured interviews with nine Child Health nurses. The study has been analyzed using a qualitative content analysis.

    Results: The result showed that all participants in the study felt that most parents had a positive attitude towards childhood vaccination. The study showed that the Child Health nurses felt that they provided a good and distinct information to the parents. At the same time, participants believed that the dissemination of information could be improved. It showed that there are differences in when Child Health nurses present information to the parents. The participants in the study felt safe in the meeting with parents and about communication of information prior to vaccination.

    Conclusion: The study showed that Child Health nurses felt secure about communication, both with information before vaccination and in meeting hesitent parents. Child Health nurses described that they had good and distinct information within the organization.

    Our essay focuses on short-term capital inflows and their effects on China’s economy.The reason for this work was the increasing vulnerability of China’s economy and the risk of newupcoming world financial crisis, all because of uncontrollable amounts of speculative capitalflows. Because of this problem, we raised a main question that we try to answer in this essayhowto reduce the possibility and the severity of the future financial crisis in China? In order tosolve this problem, first we searched for the existing theory of capital flows, mainly short-termcapital inflows. We analysed why investors choose capital flows and some specific countries,why it is profitable, but also risky and what could be done by countries, to stop these inflows orat least to diminish their effect on domestic markets. After that, we looked for past experiencesof countries faced with surges of capital flows and their measures for controlling them, weanalysed, if the theoretical tools were actually effective in reality. To finish the model, weapplied these measures to China’s economy and gave our viewpoint on what could be changedin order to avoid the dangers of short-term capital inflows. Last, we sum up the whole essay andsuggest the best mix of measures that China could use to control capital inflows as well as theireffects on the economy.

    Abstract [en]

    Almost 10 years after the attack on World Trade Center Sept. 11 2001, Osama bin Laden was shot and killed on May 2 2011 in Pakistan. How was this event framed by the media with regards to the global war on terror? This study compares two different American newspapers – the New York Times and the New York Daily News – and how they framed the war on terrorism in the Middle East from May 2 to May 15 2011. By analyzing the framing in a perspective of the four functions of framing theory: define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgments and suggest remedies, we found considerable differences in each papers frames. Through a qualitative text analysis of the opinion pages in these two newspapers, using three themes as a base, we found a number of differences. While the New York Times contained a form of open discussion about problems and remedies, New York Daily News takes an emotional and moral approach. These differences in content may affect the opinions of the readers. We speculate that the more open and suggestive nature of the New York Times, also opens the minds of the readers enabling them to form opinions in a liberated sense. Thus the more closed, emotional and moral nature of the New York Daily News may have greater impact on an individual’s ability to form its own opinions and moral values.

    Background: Sweden has one of the highest proportions of older people in the world. More people live longer with chronic diseases, which increases the demand for care. The proportion of people with heart failure is increasing. Digital technology can become an important link between patient, relative and healthcare. Increased use of digital technology in healthcare can help patients with chronic illness and lead to a better quality of life. Self-monitoring in the home provides a quick indication of deterioration and leads to less emergency visits and admissions as well as reduced healthcare costs.

    Aim: The aim was to describe the experience of self-monitoring in the home based on the elderly patient with heart failure and the relative's perspective.

    Method: A qualitative study with inductive design was chosen to answer the study's purpose and problem area. Data was obtained through semi-structured interviews, and analysed using qualitative analysis according to Malterud's systematic text condensation.

    Results: Seven elderly patients with heart failure and six relatives participated in the study.  Participants self-monitored in the home using a mobile device. The analysis resulted in three categories. Aspects of security and insecurity related to self-monitoring, self-monitoring provides support for self-care and self-monitoring a support to become a partner in care but also a responsibility.

    Conclusion: Health care is facing major challenges with an increasing ageing population where more people live longer with chronic diseases. The patient needs to become more involved and need to take greater responsibility for their own care. The results of the study indicate that elderly patients with heart failure and their relatives through self-monitoring in the home experience security, are described to gain an increased knowledge of their disease and treatment and take greater responsibility for their health by performing advanced self-care at home.

    The aim of this bachelor thesis is to study the violations of soccer rules committed by male soccer players. Our methodological approach is qualitative, and our material consists of interviews with six players and three coaches active in division four and five in Småland. The theoretical framework we use consists of two concepts, namely social control and habitus in relation to fields. Our result display that there occure two different kinds of rule violations, intellectual and emotional. The intellectual rule violations are characterized by consideration of gain and loss. The emotional rule violations are not characterized by reflection from players but originate from negative emotions, these emotions in turn engender rule violations. Throughout these two themes we argue that both players and coaches are influenced by their experiences and past. This prehistory gives players and coaches schemas which help them to know when it is accepted to break or not to break the rules of soccer. The intellectual rule violations are motivated through the behavioral schema that both players and coaches have. These schemas are reproduced by informal comprehensions that exists in the world of soccer. The emotional rule violations are also motivated through behavioral schemas but are unlike the intellectual violations counteracted by informal comprehension. Although, these violations are still reproduced as they are deeply embedded in player and coaches behavioral schemas.

    Trots de svenska medborgarnas ökande krav på digital självservice via e-tjänster, går införande trögt hos kommunerna. En anledning är den relativt låga kunskap som finns i området. Främst vad gäller avancerade e-tjänster som förutom att öka medborgarnas tillgänglighet, insyn och delaktighet i sina offentliga ärenden, även ska minska den administrativa hanteringen för att istället låta mer av resurserna gå till kärnverksamheten. I den här kvalitativa fallstudien studerades hur en kommunal verksamhetsprocess utvecklas vid införandet av en e-tjänst. Hur slöseri kan identifieras i processen informationshantering och informationsflöde och hur dessa förändrats efter att e-tjänsten införts. Resultatet baserades på material från intervjuer och analyserades utifrån Leans kategorier av slöseri och teorin om Microsystem. Resultatet visade att slöseri som uppstår i informationshantering och informationsflöde mellan enheter eller microsystem kunde identifieras om alla microsystem kartlägger processen tillsammans. Mycket slöseri hade tagits bort i utvecklingsarbetet och lett till en smidigare och troligtvis mer effektiv process. Ett antagande men som även bekräftades av personalens upplevelser från testförsöken. Processutvecklingen tillsammans med e-tjänsten har säkerställt delar av processflödet där antalet informationsöverföringar blivit färre och på så sätt troligtvis även minskat risken för att missförstånd och felhantering ska uppstå av informationshanteringen.
