    Abstract [en]

This partial study, being part of a future doctorial thesis, looks at the potential of education in the subject of literature to integrate the dual tasks of providing knowledge and of establishing democratic values. Two aspects of this competence for democracy are in focus here, both attributed with special importance by guiding documents, first of all to instil within the students a basic positive attitude towards a multicultural society and secondly to develop their ability for critical review of their own media culture as a source of knowledge. The aim is to explore the complexities of mediated experience in the social practices of everyday life from a multicultural perspective.

The empirical material of this case study consists mainly of interviews and discussions on the themes of multiculturalism and media with six teenagers from one class at the social studies programme during their freshman year. This study presents teens of Swedish as well as foreign and dual ethnicity. Theory and concepts central to the analysis of my material are gathered from a wide variety of fields such as philosophy, sociology, media studies, history and literature. I have taken a starting point from discourse theory and its criticism of ideology with regards to the relationship between language and reality. The threat of an increasing ontological uncertainty in late modern society is often given a sense of the apocalyptic, however several theorists points to this as a necessity for the development of knowledge in the age of globalization. Discovering the presumed naturality of ones own culture and identity is the prerequisite for a nuanced view of the Other, a process in this study named narrative imagination, a concept from the philosopher Martha C. Nussbaum.

    Abstract [en]

This thesis discusses challenges to teaching and learning literature arising from young upper secondary school students’ interest in and reading of contemporary literature with truth claims. The main starting-point is that something central happens to text interpretation since visual media are taking control of the understanding of the realism concept. By an overarching interpretation theory framework combined with an intermedial perspective production and reception aspects on the relation between literature/documents and authors/journalists in the current reality trend are linked in a comparative media-historical context to 19th-century realism and naturalism.

My empirics are founded on material gathered in a high school class in the Social Science programme. The results of the material described in my licentiate thesis, combined with the classroom observations and group interviews on which this doctoral thesis is based, reveal a high complexity in young people’s understanding of the realism concept. In the study of the Realism period the text chosen for joint reading, Émile Zola’s Thérèse Raquin (1867), appears “unrealistic” to many young people. With the ambition to explain and deepen the understanding that young people’s reading of school classics does not lead to an experience of realism an analysis is made of Zola’s novel, showing that the thematic contact surfaces, which might awaken an interest, are counteracted by the author’s narrative strategies. The novel’s determinism and detailed richness create unease among the young, whose media experience is inculcated by emancipatory possibilities and quick visual cuts.

The second part of the thesis discusses contemporary literature with claims on realism. Group interviews with young people fascinated by factual literature show that the truth pacts created in the encounter with these texts are often left unprocessed and unreflected on. Furthermore, the young readers’ statements support the hypothesis that the text “meaning” and status as a truth-carrier are today more and more controlled by the aggressive marketing of new literature. The thesis concludes with an analysis of the contemporary literature mentioned by the young as good examples of “true stories”. The aim is to study how the truth pacts are manifested in paratexts and texts. A comparison between original and paperback editions shows that the truth claims are always reinforced in the latter.

The study results show that the traditional division of literature into fact and fiction is dissolving. The implications for teaching and learning literature that this study suggests are that the “true stories” of contempo-rary literature have an essential function to fulfil as long as the reception does not take place privately, which often leads to reproducing prejudices. Faction literature also proves a good potential for media-critical analysis within the subject of Swedish.

    Abstract [en]

The need for brushing before the first thinning has increased during the last few years. This brushing involves taking away small trees and bushes making it able for the harvester operator to see better and choose the correct trees to be harvested. In today’s silviculture the brushing is often neglected which means that the undergrowth becomes dense and leads to less efficiency for harvesters and a rise in costs. A well brushed first thinning will make the harvesting costs low and time efficient.

In brushing before the 1st thinning all stems below 9 cm d bh are traditionally taken down. This has a tendency to become stereotyped; i.e. brushes are also taken away in areas where  stronger nature conservation should be applied, as in wetlands, edge zones, etc. The harvester operator then gets stuck in these zones which threaten the biodiversity.

This study aims at examining two different types of brushing methods before the thinning, the traditional one and another (new) method where environmental and nature protection aspects were taken into account to a greater degree; i.e. where more stems and undergrowth have been left over and edge zones were not brushed. The study results show that the latter one is to prefer as the more cost efficient one. It also protects the harvester to drive out into the edge zones. This method is also beneficial for the wildlife.

Most harvester operators were positive to a new brushing manual.

Lek med språkljud.: En studie om hur förskolepedagoger inom tre pedagogiska inriktningar arbetar med språklekar kring fonologisk medvetenhet.2014Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 210 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

    Novel biochemical markers of psychosocial stress in women2009Inngår i: PLoS ONE, ISSN 1932-6203, E-ISSN 1932-6203, Vol. 4, nr 1, s. e3590-Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

BACKGROUND: Prolonged psychosocial stress is a condition assessed through self-reports. Here we aimed to identify biochemical markers for screening and early intervention in women.

METHODS: Plasma concentrations of interleukin (IL) 1-alpha, IL1-beta, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, interferon-gamma (INF-gamma), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), epidermal growth factor (EGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), total tri-iodothyronine (TT3), total thyroxine (TT4), prolactin, and testosterone were measured in: 195 women on long-term sick-leave for a stress-related affective disorder, 45 women at risk for professional burnout, and 84 healthy women.

RESULTS: We found significantly increased levels of MCP-1, VEGF and EGF in women exposed to prolonged psychosocial stress. Statistical analysis indicates that they independently associate with a significant risk for being classified as ill.

CONCLUSIONS: MCP-1, EGF, and VEGF are potential markers for screening and early intervention in women under prolonged psychosocial stress.

Interkulturelle Organisationskommunikation: Eine kontrastive Studie zur interkulturellen Kommunikation in deutschen und schwedischen Betrieben2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

Germany and Sweden are important business partners. In business it is important to be aware of different organizational cultures. Sweden and Germany are in many aspects alike, but at the same time there are cultural differences. In this study, research was conducted to compare part of the Swedish-German organizational communication as well as the meaning of intercultural communication in different companies. Online questionnaires were answered by 18 respondents. They included Swedes at a company in Sweden, which was bought by a German company and Germans at a company in Germany, which was bought by a Swedish company. Interviews with two executive directors, one at a Swedish company and one at a German company were made as well. The results of this study show that Germany has a strong hierarchal structure in comparison with Sweden. Sweden has a flatter structure, where meetings are a big part of the community within the organization. The most striking difference between the organizational cultures in both countries is the hierarchy.

    Abstract [en]

The authors interviewed 12 women diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and 13 with fibromyalgia with the aim of determining the strategies they perceive themselves as using to gain control over their situation during the health care process. The results highlight various strategies that the women report applying to find a way of managing the illness and to influence caregivers. They describe, for example, how they try to gain control over their situation by acquiring knowledge about the illness. The women also describe various power strategies they use in their interaction with the caregivers to take command of their situation, namely exiting, noncompliance, confrontation, persuasion/insistence, making demands, and demonstrative distancing. © 2004 Sage Publications.

Ideal versus reality: Physicians perspectives on patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and fibromyalgia2003Inngår i: Social Science and Medicine, ISSN 0277-9536, E-ISSN 1873-5347, Vol. 57, nr 4, s. 711-720Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Encountering patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) or fibromyalgia can cause dilemmas for physicians due to the uncertainty inherent in these illnesses. The aim of this study was to investigate: (1) How physicians in a Swedish sample describe and categorise patients with CFS and fibromyalgia, (2) What the character of CFS and fibromyalgia, with regard to diagnosing, treatment and medical knowledge/aetiology, mean to the physicians in encounters with patients, and (3) Which strategies physicians describe that they use in the encounter with these patients. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 26 physicians, specialists in various fields who all had some experience of either CFS or fibromyalgia. The results suggest that there is a discrepancy between the ideal role of the physician and reality in the everyday work in interaction with these patients. This may lead to the professional role being questioned. Different strategies are developed to handle the encounters with these patients. The results also illuminate the physician's interpretations of patients in moralising terms. Conditions given the status of illness were regarded, for example, as less serious by the physicians than those with disease status. Scepticism was expressed regarding especially CFS, but also fibromyalgia. Moreover, it is shown how the patients are characterised by the physicians as ambitious, active, illness focused, demanding and medicalising. The patient groups in question do not always gain full access to the sick-role, in part as a consequence of the conditions not being defined as diseases. ⌐ 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. Women's experiences of stigma in relation to chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia2002Inngår i: Qualitative Health Research, ISSN 1049-7323, E-ISSN 1552-7557, Vol. 12, nr 2, s. 148-160Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia are characterized by being difficidt to diagnose and having an elusive etiology and no clear-cut treatment strategy. The question of whether these illnesses are stigmatizing was investigated through interviews with 25 women with these illnesses. The women experienced stigmatization primarily before receiving a diagnosis, and the diffuse symptomatology associated with the illnesses were significant for stigmatization. Stigma consisted of questioning the veracity, morality, and accuracy of patient symptom descriptions and of psychologizing symptoms. Coping with stigma was also explored and found to comprise both withdrawal and approach strategies, depending on the individual's circumstances and goals.

    Abstract [sv]

Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System (BNWAS) blev implementerat i the International Convention for the Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) år 2009.

Kvinnors erfarenhet av urininkontinens: -en fenomenografisk studie2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

PODVERTISING: -Swedish Attitudes towards International Ad-spots in Podcasts2006Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

For years companies have fashioned communication strategies based on print, radio, and TV

to broadcast their message. But times are changing. This is the Internet era and this, together

with the fact that consumer electronics business has exploded in the recent years and that new

digital technologies have produced offspring, have lead to more media opportunities than ever

before. One of the latest inventions in interactive media technology is podcasting. It seems

like podcasting is here to stay and it is time for forward-thinking marketers to start looking at

    podvertising.

Our purpose is to examine the attitudes towards international ad-spots in podcasts among

Swedish podcast users. This we do by asking the research question ‘Is the use of international

ad-spots in podcasts a viable marketing strategy in the Swedish market? Why?’

Based on our theoretical framework, we have identified aspects about advertising in general,

podvertising and attitudes towards them both. We have also identified aspects that show how

attitudes differ among age cohorts. These aspects were then tested on Swedish podcast users.

We can conclude that there are both advantages and disadvantages for international

companies that wish to use international ad-spots in podcasts as a marketing strategy in

Sweden. Most podcast users are young and do not like advertising, especially not advertising

in podcasts. They rather search for information themselves; hence infomercials in the form of

podcasts could be a better alternative for companies to use to attract the younger audience.

Generation X was less negative to the thought of being exposed to international ad-spots in

podcasts and this could indicate that international ad-spots could be a part of a strategy when

targeting this generation. However, if you consider the fact that international ad-spots are

either standardized or adapted to the country where they were produced, the effectiveness of

    them can be questioned.

Title: The Swedish code of good governance – Who finds it useful?

Background: Corporate governance has emerged to maintain the stockholders interests in corporations where the owners are separated from control in order to create confidence in the corporations. In 2005 the Swedish code of good governance emerged to prevent in part additional corporate scandals from happening and to make sure that the board is acting in the interest of the owners. The code is a complement to the Swedish Companies Act since it has a more strict demand in certain areas but it gives the companies a possibility to deviate by either complying or explaining their actions.

Purpose: The purpose with this thesis is to examine who finds the Swedish code of good governance useful.

Method: The research method of this survey is quantitative where the purpose is to investigate deviations in the companies’ corporate governance reports. The scientific approach is deductive where empirical data is generated from the theories. Secondary data is gathered from the companies’ corporate governance reports and annual reports.

Conclusions: Out of the different variables that we examined we find significant correlations between the boards ownership, Audit Bureau, female auditors, institutional and foreign owned corporations, the corporations profitability, type of business, stock-exchange lists and the number of deviations which the corporations does and on some of the recommendations in Swedish code of good governance. From these variables we make the conclusion on who finds the Code useful.

Do When and Where Matter?: Initial Labor Market Conditions and Immigrant Earnings2007Inngår i: Economic Journal, ISSN 0013-0133, E-ISSN 1468-0297, Vol. 117, nr 518, s. 422-448Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

This article investigates the long-term effects on immigrant earnings and employment of labour market conditions encountered upon arrival. We find that early earnings assimilation depends crucially on a favourable national labour market. Exposure to high local unemployment rates also affects individuals for at least ten years. To handle the issue of selective migration, we compare refugees entering Sweden during a severe and unexpected recession to refugees arriving during a preceding economic boom. The analysis of effects at the local level exploits a governmental refugee settlement policy to get exogenous variation in local labour market conditions.

    Abstract [en]

We present longitudinal survey data suggesting that the terrorist attacks in the USA on September 11, 2001, changed attitudes toward certain minorities in Sweden. This finding is consistent with results in previous studies. To investigate whether this change in attitudes also affected the labor market situation of these minorities, we study unemployment exit around 9-11 using detailed data on the entire Swedish working-age population. Contrary to what may be expected from many theories of labor market discrimination, the time pattern of exits and entries for different ethnic groups, as well as difference-in-differences analyses, shows no sign of increased discrimination toward these minorities. A possible explanation for this result is that employers act rationally in their hiring decisions and do not respond to changes in attitudes toward immigrants as a group.

En relation mellan The Big Five och Health Locus of Control?2007Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

Denna studie undersökte relationen mellan karaktärsdragen i The Big Five och Health Locus of Control (HLC).

What corporate social media content leads to higher consumer response: A study of local brands in Sweden2016Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

Background: Social media is connecting billions of people from across the globe by fulfilling basic human needs of socializing and getting entertained. While companies are now actively turning to social media to know their customers better, build strong relationships, and spread marketing messages, many are still struggling to figure out what corporate social media content actually works on social media.

Purpose: This research aims to understand what type of corporate social media content generates the most consumer response.

Methodology: This study employs content analysis of recent social media posts by a selection of top brands in Sweden on two main social media platforms: Facebook and Twitter. A total of ten brands with origin from Sweden were selected, based on 2015 Swedish Brand Award ranking, and their posts were examined to find out influence of corporate social media content on consumer response. A total of 400 posts were examined on verified Twitter profiles and Facebook Pages of these brands.

Findings: Type of content which refers to whether the post has image, video, or text-only content, and content orientation which can be task-oriented, self-oriented, or interaction-oriented have a statistically significant relationship with consumer response. In terms of type of content, posts with video and image content can lead to higher consumer response and in terms of content orientation task-oriented content can lead to higher consumer response. Other variables in the study, namely, communication cues, traceability cues, and time-frame have not emerged as significant in this study.

Implications: When developing corporate social media content, it’s important to focus on type of content and content orientation. In terms of type of content, managers need to focus on having video and image content as this could lead to higher consumer response and in terms of content orientation, content related to brand / product / promotion (task-oriented) can lead to higher consumer response.

Limitations: The study relies only on two main social media platforms and on the last 20 posts of each brand on each of these platforms and doesn’t take into account any seasonality as a full year period has not been studied. The study also relies on a general brand ranking list based in Sweden and not a ranking of brands on social media space.

Further Research Suggestions: Future studies could focus on bringing more social media platforms into inquiry, improving sampling robustness by having a larger sample size and broader coverage of time period to account for any seasonality in data, comparing results between different countries, having a broader mix of brands in terms of type of business area or sector or stage of brand development, and blending together the corporate and consumer perspectives. Finally, to account for platform size differences, researchers need to come up with a measure that controls for this variation across platforms.

    Avoiding drug-drug interactions.2009Inngår i: Chemotherapy, ISSN 1421-9794, Vol. 55, nr 4, s. 215-20Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

    BACKGROUND

Drugs may be prescribed in combinations causing drug-drug interactions (DDI) and adverse drug reactions (ADR), resulting in hospital care.

    METHODS

To provide prescribers of drug therapy with a better knowledge of individuals' current drug therapy, governments have started to collect prescribing data.

    RESULTS

The data on individuals' dispensed drugs is available for prescribers, pharmacists, and the registered individuals in Sweden and Denmark. The information has not yet come to an extensive use in healthcare. Pilot projects have been reported positively, but accessibility has to be improved.

    CONCLUSIONS

To avoid DDIs, reliable information on all drugs used by each single individual needs to be available at the point of care. Knowledge databases about clinically relevant DDIs must be updated and accurate. To tailor the magic bullet for the individual, new genomic- and proteomic-based knowledge about the individual has to be considered in the future.

ePrescribing: Studies in Pharmacoinformatics2007Doktoravhandling, med artikler (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [sv]

Assessment of ePrescription quality: an observational study at three mail-order pharmacies2009Inngår i: BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making, ISSN 1472-6947, E-ISSN 1472-6947, Vol. 9, nr 1, s. Article number: 8-Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Background: The introduction of electronic transfer of prescriptions (ETP) or ePrescriptions in ambulatory health care has been suggested to have a positive impact on the prescribing and dispensing processes. Thereby, implying that ePrescribing can improve safety, quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. In December 2007, 68% of all new prescriptions were transferred electronically in Sweden. The aim of the present study was to assess the quality of ePrescriptions by comparing the proportions of ePrescriptions and non-electronic prescriptions necessitating a clarification contact (correction, completion or change) with the prescriber at the time of dispensing.

Methods: A direct observational study was performed at three Swedish mail-order pharmacies which were known to dispense a large proportion of ePrescriptions (38–75%). Data were gathered on all ePrescriptions dispensed at these pharmacies over a three week period in February 2006. All clarification contacts with prescribers were included in the study and were classified and assessed in comparison with all drug prescriptions dispensed at the same pharmacies over the specified period.

Results: Of the 31225 prescriptions dispensed during the study period, clarification contacts were made for 2.0% (147/7532) of new ePrescriptions and 1.2% (79/6833) of new non-electronic prescriptions. This represented a relative risk (RR) of 1.7 (95% CI 1.3–2.2) for new ePrescriptions compared to new non-electronic prescriptions. The increased RR was mainly due to 'Dosage and directions for use', which had an RR of 7.6 (95% CI 2.8–20.4) when compared to other clarification contacts. In all, 89.5% of the suggested pharmacist interventions were accepted by the prescriber, 77.7% (192/247) as suggested and an additional 11.7% (29/247) after a modification during contact with the prescriber.

Conclusion: The increased proportion of prescriptions necessitating a clarification contact for new ePrescriptions compared to new non-electronic prescriptions indicates the need for an increased focus on quality aspects in ePrescribing deployment. ETP technology should be developed towards a two-way communication between the prescriber and the pharmacist with automated checks of missing, inaccurate, or ambiguous information. This would enhance safety and quality for the patient and also improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness within the health care system.

Detection of potential drug interactions: a model for a national pharmacy register2006Inngår i: European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, ISSN 0031-6970, E-ISSN 1432-1041, Vol. 62, nr 9, s. 749-756Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Objective  The widespread use of pharmaceuticals prescribed by different physicians has caused the Swedish government to propose a new legislation with registration of all prescriptions dispensed at the Swedish pharmacies. In the present study, we wanted to examine the frequency, distribution and determinants of potential drug interactions. Methods  The prescriptions from all individuals (n=8,214) with two or more prescriptions during October 2003 to December 2004 were collected from the ongoing Jämtland cohort study of a total of about 11,000 individuals. Potential drug–drug interactions were detected with a computerized interaction detection system and classified according to clinical relevance (types A–D).Results  On average each individual filled 14.6 (men 14.3, women 14.8) prescriptions during the study period. 3.6% of the individuals used more than 15 different drugs. The number of detected potential drug interactions type A–D was 4,941 (men 1,949, women 2,992). The risk of receiving a potential interaction type A–D was estimated as the cumulative incidence 0.26 (2,116/8,214) overall, 0.22 (748/3,467) for men and 0.29 (1,368/4,747) for women during the 15-month study period. The age adjusted risk, RRadj, for women was estimated as 1.30. Excluding sex hormones and modulators of the genital system, the RRadj was 0.96, with no elevated risk for women. For potential interactions type D, that might have serious clinical consequences, 167 (cumulative incidence 0.0203) individuals (72 men, cumulative incidence 0.0208, 95 women cumulative incidence 0.0200) were detected. The risk of receiving a combination of potentially interacting drugs was positively correlated to age and polypharmacy. The cumulative incidence for elderly was estimated as 0.36 (65–84 years) and 0.39 (85 years and above). The relative risk for individuals with 15 drugs or more was estimated as 3.67 (95% CI 3.46–3.90).Conclusion  In a general population there were relatively few severe potential drug interactions. The new Swedish national pharmacy register will provide health care professionals with a powerful tool to systematically review all prescriptions. An alert system should focus on the more potential drug interactions, type C–D, with close monitoring of elderly and patients with polypharmacy.

"We should be a lot angrier": A case study of the Marikana shootings2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

Our aim with this study was to examine how the Marikana massacre, the killings of 34 mineworkers in August 2012, was portrayed in the news media in South Africa. We based our study on a discourse analysis of a selection of articles written at the time of the massacre. We have also used interviews with two journalists who covered the Marikana massacre, to gain further insight in journalistic decisions regarding the coverage.

Through theories and earlier research we have analysed the content, among others we have used Burton’s theory of self-regulation and Gramsci’s theory of media hegemony. The findings of the discourse analysis show that newspapers have covered the incident from different angles, in accordance with the different conflicts that the massacre contains. We found a conflict between the police and miners as they are both portrayed as victims and the criminals in the articles. The second conflict between the largest unions and the third among the politicians Jacob Zuma and Julius Malema.

We have concluded that there is a political discourse and the political key players have used the massacre as means to gain political support. Through the discourse analysis we have also found that newspapers are at times critical towards government and authorities.

    Potential drug interactions during a three-decade study period: a cross-sectional study of a prescription register2007Inngår i: European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, ISSN 0031-6970, E-ISSN 1432-1041, Vol. 63, nr 9, s. 851-859Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Objectives  The increased risk of adverse events in patients receiving potentially interacting drugs has long been recognized. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the change in the risk of receiving potentially interacting drugs during a period covering three decades and to examine the relative risk of actual drug combinations. Methods  The prescriptions from all individuals (about 8,000) with two or more prescriptions during three periods of 15 months, October to December 1983–1984, 1993–1994 and 2003–2004, were collected from an ongoing cohort study in the county of Jämtland, Sweden. The potential interactions were detected by a computerized system. Results  The relative risk (RR) of receiving potentially interacting drugs increased for type C interactions [RR: 1.177, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.104–1.256] and decreased for type D interactions (RR: 0.714, 95% CI: 0.587–0.868) from the period 1983–1984 to 2003–2004. Polypharmacy for the participants increased by 61%, from 9.05 filled prescriptions per subject in 1983–1984 to 10.6 in 1993–1994 and 14.6 in 2003–2004. The RR was positively correlated to the pronounced increase in polypharmacy; in addition, an exponential relationship was found for the more severe type D interactions. Few interacting drug combinations were responsible for a large proportion of the risk. Conclusion  We conclude that the risk of receiving potentially interacting drugs was strongly correlated to the concomitant use of multiple drugs. The pronounced increase in polypharmacy over time implies a growing reason for prescribers and pharmacists to be aware of drug interactions. Recently established national prescription registers should be evaluated for drug interaction vigilance, both clinically and epidemiologically.

    Abstract [en]

This report presents the results from an archaeological trial excavation carried out in December 2008 at Brånahult, parish of Madesjö, Småland, southeast Sweden. The investigation was caused by plans of expanding a stone quarry into an area with previously recorded bloomery remains, RAÄ 332. A trial excavation performed in september 2008 just to the northeast of the present investigation area aimed at delimiting the bloomery remains towards the northeast. The exploitation plans have changed since the first trial excavation, and thus the aim of the present trial excavation was to delimit and establish the chronology, state of preservation, content and scientific potential of the bloomery and possibly other remains within an area of around 40 000 m2 to the south and west of the bloomery RAÄ 332. The investigation managed to clearly delimit the previously recorded bloomery site, and also to locate another similar but smaller bloomery site less than 100 m from the first one. Apart from these, two charcoal production sites, a stone quarry site, three clearance cairns and another heap of slag some 100-150 m to the northwest of the bloomery sites were found. Within the bloomery sites several well preserved stone constructions were identified. Samples of slag were ocularily analysed, and the results suggest that iron production on the site has been quite extensive. Three 14C-dated place the activities in the Middle Ages, around AD 1280-1460. Based on the results of the trial excavation, Kalmar County Museum suggests that any exploitation of the area should be pre- ceeded by an archaeological excavation of the two bloomery sites. Decision in this matter is taken by the County Administrative Board in Kalmar.

    Abstract [en]

This paper examines which media messages related to happiness that can be found in interviews with famous people in the four largest lifestyle magazines in Sweden for the age group 16-34. The magazines are Cosmopolitan, Elle, Café and King. Depending on which magazine the reader chooses to read he/she will be presented with different roads to happiness. Common for all examined magazines are happiness factors related to personal goals, determination and work. Often in a causal connection where the goal orientation and determination is tied together with success in work and career for the interview persons. Cosmopolitan and King present relatively few roads to happiness in comparison with Elle and especially Café. One factor for happiness is the ability to choose your own road to happiness (Bok 2011). This means that Cosmopolitan and King from the perspective of their interview texts do not promote happiness to the same degree as Café and Elle.

Is there an economic value for elite sports?: The case of Swedish Hockey League2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

The economic value of sport has long been an interesting subject to study. Proponents arguing there is big monetary return for a region hosting a professional sports team. However, majority of studies done on the subject point in the same direction where it seems economic return are negligible. Researchers even argue there is rather an alternative cost where money could be better spent on other social structure such as education and health care. The value of sport creates both direct and indirect effect. In this essay I will look at whether there could be any indirect spillover effects from hosting a hockey team in the highest league. Due to its simplicity, a difference-in-difference (DiD) method will be used on municipalities hosting a hockey team. This when looking at Gross Regional Product (GRP), unemployment rate and population growth to municipalities without a hockey team. The results of this study are ambiguous and hard to interpret when sign on coefficient differ between variables and municipalities. However, there seem to be a correlation between lower unemployment rate and population growth and an increase in GRP when a team is qualifying to SHL. It cannot be determined whether this depend on economic growth or success of their professional sports team.

Scientific publications as boundary objects: theorising the intersection of classification and research evaluation2016Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Introduction. When using bibliometrics for research evaluation, the classification of research fields is an issue of great importance. The purpose of this paper is to outline a brief theoretical framework for analysing the role of classification in research evaluation practices.

Theory. Taking departure in the concept of ‘boundary objects’ we develop a theoretical framework for analyses of how scientific publications negotiate between different social worlds. Moreover, by adding the perspective of large evaluative infrastructures our study seeks to highlight tensions between local practices and global standards.

Empirical example. One scientific article was analysed in terms of the different ways it can be classified on author and affiliation levels, on a documental level, and on a bureaucratic level.

Discussion. Publications are boundary objects residing between social worlds: the context of communication and the context of evaluation. Tensions between social worlds become apparent in infrastructures, which aims to serve the demands both of communication and of evaluation.

How implementation of bibliometric practice affects the role of academic libraries2013Inngår i: Journal of Librarianship and Information Science, ISSN 0961-0006, E-ISSN 1741-6477, Vol. 45, nr 4, s. 316-322Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

This article discusses potential consequences of implementing bibliometrics as an institutionalized practice in academic libraries. Resultsare reported from a survey among libraries in Sweden with organized bibliometric activities. Incorporating bibliometric activities is oneway of redefining and widening the role of the library. Implementation of bibliometric practice is motivated by ambitions to providemore complete scholarly communication-related services, as well as to increase the visibility and status of libraries. Underlying reasonsare professional competencies such as metadata and bibliographic database management; and bibliometrics being strong within libraryand information science. Incorporating bibliometrics in academic libraries is also seen as a way of widening the professional profile oflibrarianship. The new role should, however, also be considered from the viewpoint of potential changes in how academic libraries areperceived when incorporating a monitoring function through bibliometric analyses of research performance in addition to traditionalservice-oriented functions.
