    Sammandrag

    Författare: Peggy Palm

    År: Ht 2007

Titel: Lära våga tala. Om tal i klassrumsoffentligheten

Engelsk titel: Speak up! About communication in the classroom

    Ort, Universitet: Växjö, Växjö Universitet

    Sidor: 40

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Bakgrund:

Over-The-Air update techniques and how to evaluate them: A comparison of Over-The-Air updates for type ESP-322022Självständigt arbete på grundnivå (kandidatexamen), 10 poäng / 15 hpStudentuppsats (Examensarbete)
    Abstract [en]

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a concept where sensors combined with microcontrollers enhance our everyday life. In the year 2050, there will be around 30 billion connected IoT systems, for developing this large amount of systems and maintaining them there will be a need to use over-the-air updates (OTA). With the increasing growth of IoT systems, there will also rise more OTA update solutions as tools for maintaining and enhancing IoT systems. In this bachelor's degree project, evaluations and comparisons of different OTA update techniques supporting microcontrollers of the type ESP32 are done by using controlled experiments. This study focuses on testing the update procedure with experiments that test OTA update deployment time and update rollback functionality.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to examine social worker’s own experiences of dealing with gender perspectives in child welfare cases. With a constructionist perspective, this study is based on a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews. Six social workers were asked to reflect on their work and their methodology, and how it relates to gender perspectives when assessing children and adolescents in child welfare services. The result shows that there is a lack of control and review that children are given a gender neutral treatment. It also shows that there was no explicit protocol for how to take a gender perspective into account when assessing children and adolescents needs of welfare services. The respondents find that the BBIC-model offers support for applying a gender neural approach to their work. Moreover, the social workers feel they treat all children and adolescents equally, despite the lack of protocol. Dedicated time for reflection and specific support for gender perspective in BBIC is missed, and a high workload means that more organizational support is needed to improve the use of gender perspectives in child welfare cases.

    Abstract [en]

The European Union has been working to promote equality between women and men for a long time. Despite this, Sweden still have a gender segregated labor market where men generally has the leading positions. According to European law the member states shall promote gender equality and to take all appropriate measures. Statutory gender quotas for company boards is one such measure that some of the European member states have implemented in national law. The Swedish law has no provisions governing gender quotas and therefore the purpose of this study is to explain how gender quotas for company boards relate to current law, both of European law and national legislation. After examining the legal situation I am also referring to examine however an extent eventual legislation is possible, with the principle of non-discrimination in consideration.

The main goal of Swedish gender equality policy is that women and men should have the same power to shape society and their own lives. There should be just as much power and similar power resources between women and men. The government argued that a change must be made regarding the structural power relations between men and women, where women as a group are still subordinate to men. It is found that women more generally occupies subordinate positions in society. This is something that has its origin from the past. The question is whether the statutory quotas are the correct action to take to fulfill this target objective.

Analysis of metatranscriptomes from an acidophilic electricity generating community treating acidic mining wastewaters2018Självständigt arbete på avancerad nivå (masterexamen), 20 poäng / 30 hpStudentuppsats (Examensarbete)
    Abstract [en]

Human ́s constant need for metals requires unsustainable mining and refining of metalore. As a result, highly contaminated wastewaters are discharged in the environmentcompromising the nearby habitat together with all its life forms. Microbial fuel cells arebioelectrochemical systems (BES’s) that use microorganisms to convert organic andinorganic matter, producing electricity as the final product. This technology has shownto have great potential for application for bioremediation of wastewaters. This thesisdescribes the gene expression and the taxonomical abundance of an acidophilic, electricity generating community that was used to treat mining wastewaters in amicrobial fuel cell. A complete metatranscriptomics analysis has been performed onduplicate MFC anode acidophilic microbial community generating electricity frominorganic sulfur compounds (ISC) oxidation at extremely low pH. The analysis showsthat the most expressed genus is Ferroplasma-like, the genus Acidithiobacillus-like isfollowing along with Sulfobacillus-like and Thermoplasma-like. Some of the generaexpressed show behaviours never described before suggesting that potentially, newspecies have been selected. The reactions of the sulfur pathway are regulated mostly bytwo genera: Acidithiobacillus-like during the disproportionation of tetrathionate, andFerroplasma-like by expressing the hdr gene that catalyses the reaction from elementalsulfur to sulfite, the sulfite is then converted to sulfate. The hdr gene has not previouslybeen found in F. acidarmanus-like suggesting that the specie might have been selectedfor this trait. Acidithiobacillus-like genus has a bigger role for the energy conservationand the electron transport in the sample, however the data are not sufficient to point outwhich gene has the major role in the process. The CO2 fixation in the chamber wasconsiderably low as a result from a significant carboxysomes production, bacterialcompartiments involved in the carbon dioxide fixation. The transcripts abundanceregarding the metal resistance genes have shown low expression suggesting that thecells were not under stress. This result is indicated by the synthesis of a transcriptionalrepressor protein that had prevented a significant production of metal resistanceenzymes. Likewise, the pH homeostasis plot does not show vast transcripts abundances, indicating that the cells were thriving under conditions not far from the optimum.

Specification and Detection of SOA Antipatterns2014Ingår i: 2014 IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance and Evolution, IEEE, 2014, s. 670-670Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Service-oriented architecture (SOA) provides a collection of principles and methodologies for designing and developing service-based systems (SBSs). SBSs are composed of loosely-coupled, platform independent, and reusable functional units, i.e., services. Alternative technologies to implement SBSs are REST-style (Representational State Transfer), Service Component Architecture (SCA), SOAP-based Web service, and so on. However, SBSs cannot overcome some common software engineering challenges, e.g., evolution, to fit new user requirements or changes in execution contexts. All these changes may degrade the quality of design and quality of service of SBSs and may cause the presence of common bad practiced solutions -- antipatterns.

Unifying Service Oriented Technologies for the Specification and Detection of Their Antipatterns2015Doktorsavhandling, monografi (Övrigt vetenskapligt)
    Abstract [en]

Service-based Systems (SBSs) are developed on top of diverse emerging Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) technologies and architectural choices, including SOAP Web services, SCA (Service Component Architecture), and REST. Yet, like any other complex systems, SBSs are subject to change. The changes can be functional or non-functional and can be at design or implementation-level. Such changes may degrade the quality of design and quality of service (QoS) of the services in SBSs by introducing poor solutions—service antipatterns. The presence of service antipatterns in SBSs may hinder the future maintenance and evolution of SBSs. Assessing the quality of design and QoS of SBSs through the detection of service antipatterns may ease their maintenance and evolution. With a few commonalities among various SBSs implementation technologies, they vary in their (1) building blocks, (2) composition styles, (3) development methodology, and (4) communication or client interaction styles; which pose challenges to analyse them in a unique manner. However, the current literature lacks a unified approach for evaluating the design quality and QoS of SBSs.

To address this need, this dissertation presents an abstraction unifying three SBSs technologies: Web services, SCA, and REST. Using this abstraction, it describes a unified approach, SODA (Service Oriented Detection for Antipatterns), supported by a framework, SOFA (Service Oriented Framework for Antipatterns), for assessing the design and QoS of SBSs. Using the SODA approach, we define detection rules for 31 service antipatterns and 10 service patterns independent of their technologies. Based on these rules, we automatically generate (for SCA and Web services) or implement (for REST) their detection algorithms. We apply and validate these algorithms in terms of precision and recall on (1) two SCA systems, (2) more than 120 SOAP Web services, and (3) a set of 15 widely-used RESTful services, including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

The detection results provide evidence of the presence of service antipatterns in SBSs. The reported detection accuracy exhibits a high precision and recall and an acceptable detection performance in terms of detection time. Our SODA approach and the underlying tool can help practitioners to evaluate their SBSs, which may result in an SBS (1) with improvedquality of design and easy maintenance and (2) with improved QoS for the end-users than an SBS with antipatterns.

An improvement to test case failure prediction in the context of test case prioritization2018Ingår i: PROMISE'18: Proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Predictive Models and Data Analytics in Software Engineering, Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), 2018, s. 80-89Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Aim: In this study, we aim to re-evaluate research questions on the ability of a logistic regression model proposed in a previous work to predict and prioritize the failing test cases based on some test quality metrics.

Background: The process of prioritizing test cases aims to come up with a ranked test suite where test cases meeting certain criteria are prioritized. One criterion may be the ability of test cases to find faults that can be predicted a priori. Ranking test cases and executing the top-ranked test cases is particularly beneficial when projects have tight schedules and budgets.

Method: We performed the comparison by first rebuilding the predictive models using the features from the original study and then we extended the original work to improve the predictive models using new features by combining with the existing ones.

Results: The results of our study, using a dataset of five open-source systems, confirm that the findings from the original study hold and that our predictive models with new features outperform the original models in predicting and prioritizing the failing test cases.

Conclusions: We plan to apply this method to a large-scale dataset from a large commercial enterprise project, to better demonstrate the improvement that our modified features provide and to explore the model's performance at scale.

Investigating the Change-Proneness of Service Patterns and Antipatterns2014Ingår i: IEEE 7th International Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and Applications, SOCA 2014, IEEE, 2014Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Like any other software systems, service-based systems (SBSs) evolve frequently to accommodate new user requirements. This evolution may degrade their design and implementation and may cause the introduction of common bad practice solutions - antipatterns - in opposition to patterns which are good solutions to common recurring design problems. We believe that the degradation of the design of SBSs does not only affect the clients of the SBSs but also the maintenance and evolution of the SBSs themselves. This paper presents the results of an empirical study that aimed to quantify the impact of service patterns and antipatterns on the maintenance and evolution of SBSs. We measure the maintenance effort of a service implementation in terms of the number of changes and the size of changes (i.e., Code churns) performed by developers to maintain and evolve the service, two effort metrics that have been widely used in software engineering studies. Using data collected from the evolutionary history of the SBS FraSCAti, we investigate if (1) services involved in patterns require less maintenance effort, (2) services detected as antipatterns require more maintenance effort than other services, and (3) if some particular service antipatterns are more change-prone than others. Results show that (1) services involved in patterns require less maintenance effort, but not at statistically significant level, (2) services detected as antipatterns require significantly more maintenance effort than non-antipattern services, and (3) services detected as God Component, Multi Service, and Service Chain antipatterns are more change-prone (i.e., Require more maintenance effort) than the services involved in other antipatterns. We also analysed the relation between object-oriented code smells and service patterns/antipatterns and found a significant difference in the proportion of code smells contained in the implementations of service patterns and antipatterns.

    Detection of REST Patterns and Antipatterns: A Heuristics-Based Approach2014Ingår i: Service-Oriented Computing. ICSOC 2014 / [ed] Franch X., Ghose A.K., Lewis G.A., Bhiri S., Springer, 2014, s. 230-244Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

REST (REpresentational State Transfer), relying on resources as its architectural unit, is currently a popular architectural choice for building Web-based applications. It is shown that design patterns—good solutions to recurring design problems—improve the design quality and facilitate maintenance and evolution of software systems. Antipatterns, on the other hand, are poor and counter-productive solutions. Therefore, the detection of REST (anti)patterns is essential for improving the maintenance and evolution of RESTful systems. Until now, however, no approach has been proposed. In this paper, we propose SODA-R (Service Oriented Detection for Antipatterns in REST), a heuristics-based approach to detect (anti)patterns in RESTful systems. We define detection heuristics for eight REST antipatterns and five patterns, and perform their detection on a set of 12 widely-used REST APIs including BestBuy, Facebook, and DropBox. The results show that SODA-R can perform the detection of REST (anti)patterns with high accuracy. We also found that Twitter and DropBox are not well-designed, i.e., contain more antipatterns. In contrast, Facebook and BestBuy are well-designed, i.e., contain more patterns and less antipatterns.

Recommendation system for design patterns in software development: An DPR overview2012Ingår i: 3rd International Workshop on Recommendation Systems for Software Engineering, RSSE 2012, IEEE Press, 2012Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Software maintenance can become monotonous and expensive due to ignorance and misapplication of appropriate design patterns during the early phases of design and development. To have a good and reusable system, designers and developers must be aware of large information set and many quality concerns, e.g., design patterns. Systems with correct design pattern may ensure easy maintenance and evolution. However, without assistance, designing and development of software systems following certain design patterns is difficult for engineers. Recommendation systems for software engineering can assist designers and developers with a wide range of activities including suggesting design patterns. With the help of pattern recommenders, designers can come up with a reusable design. We provide a Design Pattern Recommender (DPR) process overview for software design to suggest design patterns, based on a simple Goal-Question-Metric (GQM) approach. Our prototype provides two-fold solution. In the primary-level, DPR only proposes one or more design patterns for a problem context, and in the secondary level, for a initial set of design, DPR refactors models and suggests design patterns. Our preliminary evaluation shows that DPR has a good trade-off between accuracy and procedural complexity, comparing to other state-of-the-art approaches.

Semantic analysis of RESTful APIs for the detection of linguistic patterns and antipatterns2017Ingår i: International Journal of Cooperative Information Systems, ISSN 0218-8430, Vol. 26, nr 2, s. 1-37, artikel-id 1742001Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Identifier lexicon may have a direct impact on software understandability and reusability and, thus, on the quality of the final software product. Understandability and reusability are two important characteristics of software quality. REpresentational State Transfer (REST) style is becoming a de facto standard adopted by software organizations to build their Web applications. Understandable and reusable Uniform Resource Identifers (URIs) are important to attract client developers of RESTful APIs because good URIs support the client developers to understand and reuse the APIs. Consequently, the use of proper lexicon in RESTful APIs has also a direct impact on the quality of Web applications that integrate these APIs. Linguistic antipatterns represent poor practices in the naming, documentation, and choice of identifiers in the APIs as opposed to linguistic patterns that represent the corresponding best practices. In this paper, we present the Semantic Analysis of RESTful APIs (SARA) approach that employs both syntactic and semantic analyses for the detection of linguistic patterns and antipatterns in RESTful APIs. We provide detailed definitions of 12 linguistic patterns and antipatterns and define and apply their detection algorithms on 18 widely-used RESTful APIs, including Facebook, Twitter, and Dropbox. Our detection results show that linguistic patterns and antipatterns do occur in major RESTful APIs in particular in the form of poor documentation practices. Those results also show that SARA can detect linguistic patterns and antipatterns with higher accuracy compared to its state-of-the-art approach — DOLAR.

Identifier lexicon has a direct impact on software understandability and reusability and, thus, on the quality of the final software product. Understandability and reusability are two important characteristics of software quality. REST (REpresentational State Transfer) style is becoming a de facto standard adopted by many software organisations. The use of proper lexicon in RESTful APIs might make them easier to understand and reuse by client developers, and thus, would ease their adoption. Linguistic antipatterns represent poor practices in the naming, documentation, and choice of identifiers in the APIs as opposed to linguistic patterns that represent best practices. We present the DOLAR approach (Detection Of Linguistic Antipatterns in REST), which applies syntactic and semantic analyses for the detection of linguistic (anti)patterns in RESTful APIs. We provide detailed definitions of ten (anti)patterns and define and apply their detection algorithms on 15 widely-used RESTful APIs, including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. The results show that DOLAR can indeed detect linguistic (anti)patterns with high accuracy and that they do occur in major RESTful APIs.

    Abstract [en]

Service-based Systems (SBSs) are developed on top of diverse Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) technologies or architectural styles. Like any other complex systems, SBSs face both functional and non-functional changes at the design or implementation-level. Such changes may degrade the design quality and quality of service (QoS) of the services in SBSs by introducing poor solutions-service antipatterns. The presence of service antipatterns in SBSs may hinder the future maintenance and evolution of SBSs. Assessing the quality of design and QoS of SBSs through the detection of service antipatterns may ease their maintenance and evolution. However, the current literature lacks a unified approach for modelling and evaluating the design of SBSs in term of design quality and QoS. To address this lack, this paper presents a meta-model unifying the three main service technologies: REST, SCA, and SOAP. Using the meta-model, it describes a unified approach, UniDoSA (Unified Specification and Detection of Service Antipatterns), supported by a framework, SOFA (Service Oriented Framework for Antipatterns), for modelling and evaluating the design quality and QoS of SBSs. We apply and validate UniDoSA on: (1) 18 RESTful APIs, (2) two SCA systems with more than 150 services, and (3) more than 120 SOAP Web services. With a high precision and recall, the detection results provide evidence of the presence of service antipatterns in SBSs, which calls for future studies of their impact on QoS.

Detection of Process Antipatterns: A BPEL Perspective2013Ingår i: IEEE International Enterprise Distributed Object Computing Workshop, EDOC2013, 2013Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

With the increasing significance of the serviceoriented paradigm for implementing business solutions, assessing and analyzing such solutions also becomes an essential task to ensure and improve their quality of design. One way to develop such solutions, a.k.a., Service-Based systems (SBSs) is to generate BPEL (Business Process Execution Language) processes via orchestrating Web services. Development of large business processes (BPs) involves design decisions. Improper and wrong design decisions in software engineering are commonly known as antipatterns, i.e., poor solutions that might affect the quality of design. The detection of antipatterns is thus important to ensure and improve the quality of BPs. However, although BP antipatterns have been defined in the literature, no effort was given to detect such antipatterns within BPEL processes. With the aim of improving the design and quality of BPEL processes, we propose the first rule-based approach to specify and detect BP antipatterns. We specify 7 BP antipatterns from the literature and perform the detection for 4 of them in an initial experiment with 3 BPEL processes.

    Abstract [en]

Structured business processes (SBPs) are now in enterprises the prominent solution to software development problems through orchestrating Web services. By their very nature, SBPs evolve through adding new or modifying existing functionalities. Those changes may deteriorate the process design and introduce process antipatterns—poor but recurring solutions that may degrade processes design quality and hinder their maintenance and evolution. However, to date, few solutions exist to detect such antipatterns to facilitate the maintenance and evolution and improve the quality of process design. We propose SODA-BP (Service Oriented Detection for Antipatterns in Business Processes), supported by a framework for specifying and detecting process antipatterns. To validate SODA-BP, we specify eight antipatterns and perform their detection on a set of randomly selected 35 SBPs form a corpus of more than 150 collected processes from an open-source search engine. Some of the SBPs were modified by adding, removing, or modifying process elements to introduce noise in them. Results shows that SODA-BP has an average detection precision of more than 75% and recall of 100%.

Service Based Systems, composed of Web Services (WSs), offer promising solutions to software development problems for companies. Like other software artefacts, WSs evolve due to the changed user requirements and execution contexts, which may introduce poor solutions-Antipatterns-may cause (1) degradation of design and quality of service (QoS) and (2) difficult maintenance and evolution. Thus, the automatic detection of antipatterns in WSs, which aims at evaluating their design and QoS requires attention. We propose SODA-W (Service Oriented Detection for Antipatterns in Web services), an approach supported by a framework for specifying and detecting antipatterns in WSs. Using SODA-W, we specify ten antipatterns, including God Object Web Service and Fine Grained Web Service, and perform their detection in two different corpora: (1) 13 weather-related and (2) 109 financial-related WSs. SODA-W can specify and detect antipatterns in WSs with an average precision of more than 75% and a recall of 100%.

    Abstract [en]

Like any other large and complex software systems, Service-Based Systems (SBSs) must evolve to fit new user requirements and execution contexts. The changes resulting from the evolution of SBSs may degrade their design and quality of service (QoS) and may often cause the appearance of common poor solutions in their architecture, called antipatterns, in opposition to design patterns, which are good solutions to recurring problems. Antipatterns resulting from these changes may hinder the future maintenance and evolution of SBSs. The detection of antipatterns is thus crucial to assess the design and QoS of SBSs and facilitate their maintenance and evolution. However, methods and techniques for the detection of antipatterns in SBSs are still in their infancy despite their importance. In this paper, we introduce a novel and innovative approach supported by a framework for specifying and detecting antipatterns in SBSs. Using our approach, we specify 10 well-known and common antipatterns, including Multi Service and Tiny Service, and automatically generate their detection algorithms. We apply and validate the detection algorithms in terms of precision and recall two systems developed independently, (1) Home-Automation, an SBS with 13 services, and (2) FraSCAti, an open-source implementation of the Service Component Architecture (SCA) standard with more than 100 services. This validation demonstrates that our approach enables the specification and detection of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) antipatterns with an average precision of 90% and recall of 97.5%.

Investigating the Linguistic Design Quality of Public, Partner, and Private REST APIs2022Ingår i: Proceedings - 2022 IEEE International Conference on Services Computing, SCC 2022 / [ed] Ardagna C.A., Bian H., Chang C.K., Chang R.N., Damiani E., Dustdar S., Marco J., Singh M., Teniente E., Ward R., Wang Z., Xhafa F., Zhang J., IEEE, 2022, s. 20-30Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) define how Web services, middle-wares, frameworks, and libraries communicate with their clients. An API that conforms to REpresentational State Transfer (REST) design principles is known as REST API. At present, it is an industry-standard for interaction among Web services. There exist mainly three categories of APIs: public, partner, and private. Public APIs are designed for external consumers, whereas partner APIs are designed aiming at organizational partners. In contrast, private APIs are designed solely for internal use. The API quality matters regardless of their category and intended consumers. To assess the (linguistic) design of APIs, researchers defined linguistic patterns (i.e., best API design practices) and linguistic antipatterns (i.e., poor API design practices.) APIs that follow linguistic patterns are easy to understand, use, and maintain. In this study, we analyze and compare the design quality of public, partner, and private APIs. More specifically, we made a large survey by analyzing and performing the detection of nine linguistic patterns and their corresponding antipatterns on more than 2,500 end-points from 37 APIs. Our results suggest that (1) public, partner, and private APIs lack quality linguistic design, (2) among the three API categories, private APIs lack linguistic design the most, and (3) end-points are amorphous, contextless, and non-descriptive in partner APIs. End-points have contextless design and poor documentation regardless of the API categories.

Assessing the linguistic quality of REST APIs for IoT applications2022Ingår i: Journal of Systems and Software, ISSN 0164-1212, E-ISSN 1873-1228, Vol. 191, artikel-id 111369Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Internet of Things (IoT) is a growing technology that relies on connected 'things' that gather data from peer devices and send data to servers via APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). The design quality of those APIs has a direct impact on their understandability and reusability. This study focuses on the linguistic design quality of REST APIs for IoT applications and assesses their linguistic quality by performing the detection of linguistic patterns and antipatterns in REST APIs for IoT applications. Linguistic antipatterns are considered poor practices in the naming, documentation, and choice of identifiers. In contrast, linguistic patterns represent best practices to APIs design. The linguistic patterns and their corresponding antipatterns are hence contrasting pairs. We propose the SARAv2 (Semantic Analysis of REST APIs version two) approach to perform syntactic and semantic analyses of REST APIs for IoT applications. Based on the SARAv2 approach, we develop the REST-Ling tool and empirically validate the detection results of nine linguistic antipatterns. We analyse 19 REST APIs for IoT applications. Our detection results show that the linguistic antipatterns are prevalent and the REST-Ling tool can detect linguistic patterns and antipatterns in REST APIs for IoT applications with an average accuracy of over 80%. Moreover, the tool performs the detection of linguistic antipatterns on average in the order of seconds, i.e., 8.396 s. We found that APIs generally follow good linguistic practices, although the prevalence of poor practices exists. (C) 2022 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier Inc.

Using an SMT solver for interactive requirements prioritization2011Ingår i: ESEC/FSE '11: Proceedings of the 19th ACM SIGSOFT symposium and the 13th European conference on Foundations of software engineering, ACM Publications, 2011, s. 48-58Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

The prioritization of requirements is a crucial activity in the early phases of the software development process. It consists of finding an order relation among requirements, considering several requirements characteristics, such as stakeholder preferences, technical constraints, implementation costs and user perceived value.

We propose an interactive approach to the problem of prioritization based on Satisfiability Modulo Theory (SMT) techniques and pairwise comparisons. Our approach resorts to interactive knowledge acquisition whenever the relative priority among requirements cannot be determined based on the available information. Synthesis of the final ranking is obtained via SMT constraint solving.

The approach has been evaluated on a set of requirements from a real healthcare project. Results show that it overcomes other interactive state-of-the-art prioritization approaches in terms of effectiveness, efficiency and robustness to decision maker errors.

Are Developers Equally Concerned About Making Their APIs RESTful and the Linguistic Quality?: A Study on Google APIs2021Ingår i: Service-Oriented Computing: 19th International Conference, ICSOC 2021, Virtual Event, November 22–25, 2021, Proceedings / [ed] Hakim Hacid;Odej Kao;Massimo Mecella;Naouel Moha;Hye-young Paik, Springer, 2021, s. 171-187Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

REST (REpresentational State Transfer) is an architectural style for distributed, hypermedia systems that allows communication between clients and servers using the HTTP methods and URIs (Uniform Resource Identifiers). In the literature, researchers and practitioners defined best design practices, i.e., REST patterns, violation of which are known as REST antipatterns. Also, clients need to understand the use and purpose of APIs while consuming them. A set of best practices is defined in the literature for APIs to have a better linguistic design, i.e., linguistic patterns, violation of which are known as linguistic antipatterns. For API developers, it is challenging to ensure that their APIs are RESTful and manifest linguistic design quality. This paper investigates whether developers are equally concerned about making their APIs RESTful while also focus on designing APIs with better linguistic quality that may facilitate their comprehension and consumption. Thus, we examine the relation between RESTful and linguistic design quality in RESTful APIs. We analyzed eight Google APIs and performed the detection of 21 patterns and antipatterns on those APIs. Using the quantitative data, we performed a series of statistical tests. Results suggest a negligible relationship between RESTful and linguistic design quality. Thus, developers are unaware of whether they conjointly lack RESTful and linguistic design quality.

The Semantic Structure of the Noun "Dog": Qualia structure and how it works2011Självständigt arbete på grundnivå (kandidatexamen), 10 poäng / 15 hpStudentuppsats (Examensarbete)
    Abstract [en]

This essay studies the semantic structure of the noun dog with the help of qualia structure and adjectives that collocate with the noun. It also evaluates the idea of qualia structure and how well it works in studying the semantic structure of nouns. More specifically, the aim of this paper is to see how the information contained by the noun dog could be structured in terms of qualia structure. On a more general level the aim is also to evaluate, and add to, the idea of qualia structure as such.

In order to accomplish this aim the top 100 adjectives that collocate with the noun dog were searched for in the COCA corpus (Corpus of Contemporary American English).

The results were that with the help of qualia structure and some adjectives that collocate with the noun, it was possible to posit some substructures for the noun dog and create a tree that gave an overview of the semantic structure of the noun. However, some problems arose during the process making it clear where qualia structure needs improvement. This led to the discussion of the evolution of qualia structure and where the idea could be, and perhaps should be headed in the near future.

Native Advertising - A New Era of Online Advertising?: A qualitative study exploring consumers' attitudes2016Självständigt arbete på avancerad nivå (magisterexamen), 10 poäng / 15 hpStudentuppsats (Examensarbete)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to explore consumers’ attitudes towards native advertising and its perceived value.

Design/methodology/approach – This research has a qualitative and exploratory nature. Forthe empirical material, primary data is collected through conducting in-depth semi-structured interviews.

Findings – Consumers’ persuasion knowledge in relation to native advertising is found to be low. The advertising value of native advertising is positive since the consumers considered it to be entertaining, informative and credible. Furthermore, it was not considered as irritating which enhances the advertising value as well. Design was found to be its own category as it has an effect on all dimensions to enhance the advertising value. Since the advertising value is positive and enhanced, the attitudes of consumers towards native advertising are positive.

Research implications/limitations – The main implications of this research are: native advertising can be used as a solution to consumers avoiding online advertising and in order for it to be successful, the design, content and frequency have to be taken into consideration. Since this research is qualitative, it has a subjective nature which might result in researcher induced bias. Furthermore, the age of the interviewees’ range from 21 to 38 years old which unlikely represents the whole population.

Originality/value – As there is a lack of research in the field of native advertising, this research contributes to the field with knowledge about consumers’ attitudes towards it as well as how native advertising creates value. Additionally, the researchers applied the attitudes-towards-advertising model for this specific context and augmented it with a new dimension, design. This research also contributes with knowledge about each dimension in the native advertising context. Lastly, this research shows advertisers how native advertising should be used in terms of content, frequency and design.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Emotional Intelligence and Job Insecurity: Gender Differences Between Employees2018Självständigt arbete på avancerad nivå (masterexamen), 20 poäng / 30 hpStudentuppsats (Examensarbete)
    Abstract [en]

Emotional intelligence and job insecurity are important to study because they can have an impact both on an individual’s professional and personal life; however, research on emotional intelligence and job insecurity is contradictory. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether there were gender differences in emotional intelligence and job insecurity in employees in a Swedish sample. The aim was also to investigate if emotional intelligence moderated gender differences in job insecurity. The sample consisted of 109 employees, with 33 males (30.30%) and 76 females (69.70%), from four different organizations both from public and private sector. The research question was: “Are there differences in emotional intelligence and job insecurity between female and male employees?” Two questionnaires were used: The Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form (TEIQue-SF) and The Job Insecurity Measure. Correlation analysis was performed between emotional intelligence and job insecurity and a medium, negative relationship was found. Gender differences in emotional intelligence and job insecurity were tested with independent samples t-tests. The results indicated no gender differences. Hierarchical regression analysis was performed to investigate if emotional intelligence moderated gender differences in job insecurity; however, the results were non-significant. The present study shows that emotional intelligence and job insecurity are negatively correlated, and since job insecurity is regarded as an environmental stressor and part of job stress, the relationship between emotional intelligence and job stress is also confirmed by this negative correlation.

Anthropogenic substrate as an artificial reef in the Baltic Sea with Fucus vesiculosus as a key species2023Självständigt arbete på grundnivå (kandidatexamen), 10 poäng / 15 hpStudentuppsats (Examensarbete)
    Abstract [en]

Bladderwrack, Fucus vesiculosus is a key species in the Baltic Sea that provide habitat and increases biodiversity for macroinvertebrates, contributing to the overall ecological status of the Baltic Sea. Because of the low ecological status of the Baltic Sea and high sedimentation, leading to a substrate limitation for F. vesiculosus the macroalgae have decreased in biomass drastically. Increasing the suitable substrates for F. vesiculosus could contribute to restoring the population. The Kårehamn wind park (east cost of Öland, - Renewables Sweden AB) has 16 turbines, 79. 6 m high. Between the wind turbines, there are submerged cables weighed down with bags filled with macadam. This study presents an investigation of the size of the preferred substrate for F. vesiculosus and if submerged cables and bags of macadam in the Baltic Sea could be a potential substrate for macroalgae growth as a start of a potential artificial reef. Data was collected by: an inventory from the shore of Fucus individuals size, substrate size, amount of epiphytes, and, video footage of the submerged electrical cables and bags of macadam. The result of the inventory suggests that F. vesiculosus could potentially attach to substrates with the size of macadam (6-10 cm) without compromising its overall size of the canopy-formation. However, the video footage showed no evidence of any macroalgae attachment to the cables or to the bags of macadam. Instead, it seems that the submerged substrate does provide a great substrate for filamentous green algae and the blue mussel, Mytilus edulis. The sampling sites of the substrate inventory, Långviken and Stensö Flundran, had a significant increase in epiphytic biomass attached to F. vesiculosus with the size of the substrate rock. If the bags of macadam were to be combined with a larger variation of substrate rock sizes it would increase the chances of Fucus spp. settlement as the bigger substrates increase settlement opportunities for F. vesiculosus.

Health-Related Quality of Life, Depression and Anxiety Correlate with the Degree of Hirsutism2013Ingår i: Dermatology, ISSN 1018-8665, E-ISSN 1421-9832, Vol. 227, nr 3, s. 278-284Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Background: Hirsutism has a negative impact on women's quality of life. The relation between quality of life, anxiety, depression and the level of hairiness has not been described. Aims: To investigate the correlations between the levels of hairiness, quality of life, anxiety and depression. Methods: 200 patients from Malmo, Orebro and Uppsala, who had been in contact with the clinics for problems with excessive hair growth, were invited to answer a self-administered questionnaire including sociodemographic questions, EQ-5D index score, Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLOI), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and Ferriman-Gallwey scale (F-G); of these, 127 women participated in the study. Results: The mean values were: EQ-5D index 0.73 (SD = 0.27), EQ visual analogue scale 61.0 (SD = 22.6), HADS-anxiety 9.5 +/- 5.3 and HADS-depression 6.5 +/- 4.6. The mean DLQI was 11.8 +/- 8.4, indicating a very large effect on patients' lives. All were significantly correlated with the amount of hairiness. Conclusions: Higher levels of hair growth were significantly correlated with a lower level of quality of life and symptoms of both anxiety and depression. (C) 2013 S. Karger AG, Basel

Gender discrimination in the labour market: A meta-analysis of field experiments, researching gender discrimination in the labour markets hiring process2021Självständigt arbete på grundnivå (kandidatexamen), 10 poäng / 15 hpStudentuppsats (Examensarbete)
    Abstract [en]

In this article, a meta-analysis was conducted using correspondence tests from 2004 and later, researching gender discrimination in the labour markets hiring process. A total of 19 correspondence tests were found from 12 different countries across the world. Comparisons of call-back rates for job applications between male and female applicants were made. I created a call-back ratio, dividing the female applicants’ call-back rate by the male applicants’ call-back rate for each study and regressed on two different variables, “equality score” and “work incentives rating”, meant to measure gender equality of countries. My hypothesis is that females are still discriminated against in the world’s labour markets. Statistical discrimination is my main theory of why discrimination of female applicants would occur in the labour market. The method of meta-analysis is useful for observing overall trends and drawing broad conclusions regarding a subject. The equality score is significantly correlated with higher call-back rates for both genders, bot it is not correlated with the call-back ratio, and therefore, does not seem to be correlated with gender discrimination. Providing more work incentives are correlated with lower call-back rates for both genders, but these findings are not significant at any level. The call-back ratio is unaffected by the work incentives rating, showing no correlation with discrimination. The main findings show no discrimination of female applicants, but rather points to discrimination of male applicants. This could be to a perceived image of men being more threatening.

Matematikångest - Utifrån livsberättelser: Math anxiety based on lifestories2019Självständigt arbete på avancerad nivå (magisterexamen), 10 poäng / 15 hpStudentuppsats (Examensarbete)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The transition from having been under another country’s control to becoming a democratic country can, many times, pose difficulties, which has proven itself to be quite common. Estonia and Moldova’s processes towards a democratic regime are two examples of countries with varied success in the final transition phase.

When the USSR (Soviet union) fell and collapsed in 1991 Estonia was well on their way from having a communistic ruling to a democratic one due to the fact that their democratic work had already begun a few years prior to 1991. After the collapse Estonia continued with their democratic work and in 2004 the country became a EU member state. Moldova, compared to Estonia, had grave difficulties early on with their democratic work. The country was separated in 1992 and, as a result, the government did not have control over the entire country. Due to this the state of law did not extend over the entire country, which made it difficult for the government to continue with their democratic work. To succeed with consolidation there has to exist positive attitudes and a desire to follow the democratic rules, which did exist in Estonia however, in Moldova, it was lacking. The purpose of this investigation is to discover the causes behind the two countries’ success with democracy, or the lack off, as well as, from a consolidation perspective, investigating into why Estonia and not Moldova was able to establish a stable democracy.

The results show that the five consolidation aspects, which were analyzed in this investigation, carry the responsibilities behind the success of the countries’ democratic processes and also, the reason for why democracy thrived in Estonia and not in Moldova. The consolidation viewpoint show that the Moldovan republic had a difficult time succeeding with democracy due to the country’s separation as well as their nationality crisis. The viewpoint also shows how Estonia early on had its people’s positive attitudes supporting them, which made it easier to implement different economical, political and social reforms.

    Abstract [sv]
