    Abstract [en]

    We introduce the notion of diagonal ranks of semigroups,which are numerical characteristics of semigroups. Some base propertiesof diagonal ranks are obtained. A new criterion for a monoidbeing a group is obtained using diagonal ranks.For some semigroup classes we investigate whether their diagonal acts are finitely generatedor not. For the semigroups of full transformations, partial transformations andbinary relations we find the general form of the generating pairs.

    Abstract [en]

    The paper starts with an introduction to the basic mathematical model of classical probability (CP), i.e. the Kolmogorov (1933) measure-theoretic model. Its two basic interpretations are discussed: statistical and subjective. We then present the probabilistic structure of quantum mechanics (QM) and discuss the problem of interpretation of a quantum state and the corresponding probability given by Born’s rule. Applications of quantum probability (QP) to modeling of cognition and decision making (DM) suffer from the same interpretational problems as QM. Here the situation is even more complicated than in physics. We analyze advantages and disadvantages of the use of subjective and statistical interpretations of QP. The subjective approach to QP was formalized in the framework of Quantum Bayesianism (QBism) as the result of efforts from C. Fuchs and his collaborators. The statistical approach to QP was presented in a variety of interpretations of QM, both in nonrealistic interpretations, e.g., the Copenhagen interpretation (with the latest version due to A. Plotnitsky), and in realistic interpretations (e.g., the recent Växjö interpretation). At present, we cannot make a definite choice in favor of any of the interpretations. Thus, quantum-like DM confronts the same interpretational problem as quantum physics does.

    Abstract [en]

    From a simple extension of a previous formal pattern of unconscious-conscious interconnection based on the representation of mental entities by m-adic numbers through hysteresis phenomenology, a pattern which has been then used to work out a possible psychoanalytic model of human consciousness, we now argue on related simple derivations of p-adic Weber-Fechner laws of psychophysics.

    Abstract [en]

    We discuss differences in mathematical representations of the physical and mentalworlds. Following Aristotle, we present the mental space as discrete, hierarchic, and totally disconnectedtopological space. One of the basic models of such spaces is given by ultrametricspaces and more specially by m-adic trees. We use dynamical systems in such spaces to modelflows of unconscious information at different level of mental representation hierarchy, for “mentalpoints”, categories, and ideas. Our model can be interpreted as an unconventional computationalmodel: non-algorithmic hierarchic “computations” (identified with the process of thinking at theunconscious level).

    Abstract [en]

    The recent experimental confirmation of the existence of Higgs boson stimulates theoretical research on supersymmetric models; in particular, mathematics of such modeling. Therefore we plan to present essentials of one special approach to “super-mathematics”, so called functional superanalysis (in the spirit of De Witt, Rogers, Vladimirov and Volovich, and the author of this review) in compact and clear form in series of review-type papers. This first paper is a review on super-differential calculus for the concrete model of the superspace (invented by Vladimirov and Volovich). In the next review we plan to present the integral supercalculus. The main distinguishing feature of functional superanalysis is that this is a real super-extension of analysis of Newton and Leibniz, opposite to algebraic models of Martin and Berezin. Here functions of commuting and anticommuting variables are no simply algebraic elements belonging to Grassmann algebras, but point-wise maps, from superspace into superspace. Finally, we remark that the first non-Archimedean physical model was based on invention by Vladimirov and Volovich of superspaces based on supercommutative Banach superalgebras over non-Archimedean (in particular, p-adic) fields. This model plays the basic role in theory of p-adic superstrings.

    Information processed by complex cognitive systems is characterized by the presence of various closely connected hierarchic structures. The most natural geometry for the representation of such structures is geometry of trees and the corresponding topology is the ultrametric topology of on these trees. And the p-adic trees provide the simplest model for representation of mental hierarchies. Moreover, p-adic trees can be endowed with the natural arithmetic reminding the usual arithmetic of real numbers. Therefore it is natural to start from the p-adic models of brain's functioning. In this note the authors apply this model to demonstrate the ability of the “p-adic brain” to process adequately the objects of the physical Euclidean space in the p-adic tree representation. This study also leads to p-adic modeling of brain's creativity and its ability to create abstract images. The authors' model is about unconscious processing of information by the brain. Therefore the authors can say about elements of coming theory of unconscious creativity.

    Abstract [en]

    Fourier and more generally wavelet analysis over the fields of p-adic numbers are widely used in physics, biology and cognitive science, and recently in geophysics. In this note we present a model of the reaction–diffusion dynamics in random porous media, e.g., flow of fluid (oil, water or emulsion) in a a complex network of pores with known topology. Anomalous diffusion in the model is represented by the system of two equations of reaction–diffusion type, for the part of fluid not bound to solid’s interface (e.g., free oil) and for the part bound to solid’s interface (e.g., solids–bound oil). Our model is based on the p-adic (treelike) representation of pore-networks. We present the system of two p-adic reaction–diffusion equations describing propagation of fluid in networks of pores in random media and find its stationary solutions by using theory of p-adic wavelets. The use of p-adic wavelets (generalizing classical wavelet theory) gives a possibility to find the stationary solution in the analytic form which is typically impossible for anomalous diffusion in the standard representation based on the real numbers.

Även om verkligheten ofta är icke-linjär, så kräver icke-linjär analys ofta mycket god förståelse av de linjära specialfallen. Få delområden i matematiken kan på en lika elementär nivå klargöra skillnaderna mellan effektiva och mindre effektiva algoritmer och åskådliggöra vilken potential mate­ma­tiken ger för en fortsatt samhällsutveckling.Denna bok riktar sig till den grupp av studenter, som behöver komma in på egenvärden och egenvektorer redan efter en för­hållandevis kort kurs i linjär algebra. Vid urvalet av stoff har det tagits hänsyn till att vissa studenter kommer att välja att läsa mer linjär algebra efter denna kurs, medan andra inte kommer att göra det.Denna upplaga har kompletterats bland annat med ett stort antal övningar.     Denna systematiska litteraturstudie syftar till att med hjälp av forskning identifiera avgörande faktorer för framgångsrika undervisningsstrategier av stambråk i grundskolans matematikundervisning. Studien baseras på elva vetenskapliga artiklar som bearbetats systematiskt med hjälp av innehållsanalys för att besvara forsknings-frågorna om vilka avgörande faktorer som forskningen visar för undervisningen av stambråk samt vilka framgångsrika undervisningsstrategier som finns. Forskningen visar att areamodellen som representationsform dominerar undervisningen av bråk vilket innebär att stambråk får lite plats i undervisningen. Stambråket är en viktig del för att kunna tillägna sig avgörande faktorer av bråk. Resultatet visar att en undervisning med linear measurement (linjära representationsformer) betonar stambråkets roll som tolkningsverktyg för att kunna jämföra andra bråk samt det omvända förhållandet där en större nämnare utgör en mindre andel. Resultatet visar också att undervisningen av stambråk etablerar grundläggande principer för rationella tal och mer avancerade matematiska områden som proportionalitet och algebra. Därmed är lärares val av undervisningsstrategier och representationsformer samt deras kunskaper inom dessa områden vitala för vad eleverna kan tillägna sig i samband med bråkundervisningen.

    Abstract [en]

    In the present paper, I present a model that can be used for supporting teachers’ reflection on practical situations they are confronted with. The model is grounded in two concepts from variation theory: critical aspects and dimensions of variation. Analysis of the data allows for determination of what kind of reflection is used in teachers’ professional development when working with algebra modules and the teachers´ perceptions of the relevance and usefulness of the professional development concerning algebra modules. The results show that effective professional development focuses on improving instructional practice by giving teachers new knowledge and techniques for assessing learning with the ultimate goal of improving the learning of students. The results also show that the teachers practiced reflection-in and on-action.

    Abstract [en]

    Theory of dynamical systems in fields of p-adic numbers is an important part of algebraic and arithmetic dynamics. The study of p-adic dynamical systems is motivated by their applications in various areas of mathematics, physics, genetics, biology, cognitive science, neurophysiology, computer science, cryptology, etc. In particular, p-adic dynamical systems found applications in cryptography, which stimulated the interest to nonsmooth dynamical maps. An important class of (in general) nonsmooth maps is given by 1-Lipschitz functions. In this paper we present a recent summary of results about the class of 1-Lipschitz functions and describe measure-preserving (for the Haar measure on the ring of p-adic integers) and ergodic functions. The main mathematical tool used in this work is the representation of the function by the van der Put series which is actively used in p-adic analysis. The van der Put basis differs fundamentally from previously used ones (for example, the monomial and Mahler basis) which are related to the algebraic structure of p-adic fields. The basic point in the construction of van der Put basis is the continuity of the characteristic function of a p-adic ball. Also we use an algebraic structure (permutations) induced by coordinate functions with partially frozen variables.
