    Abstract [en]

    Studies with large physical models are a vital link between the theoretical work and field applications provided that these models are designed to represent real structures where various types and levels of uncertainties can be incorporated. While comprehensive analytical and laboratory joint studies are ongoing at Qatar University, University of Central Florida and University of Alberta, this paper presents the initial findings of dynamic testing at Qatar University. A laboratory stadium structure (grandstand simulator) has been constructed at Qatar University. Capable of housing thirty spectators, Qatar University grandstand simulator is arguably the largest laboratory stadium in the world. The structure is designed in a way that several different structural configurations can be tested in laboratory conditions to enable researchers to test newly developed damage detection algorithms. The study presented in this paper covers the finite element modeling and modal testing of the test structure.

    Abstract [en]

    Floating-Slab Tracks (FST) are predominantly used for mitigating railway-induced vibrations where the concrete slab is mounted on soft resilient bearings to provide vibration isolation. This paper presents a research study on the dynamic behavior of a special type of FST used in the recently built subway system in Doha, Qatar. The special FST has a continuous concrete slab with periodic grooves. Therefore, the track can be modeled as a periodic structure with a slab unit having two elements with different cross-sections. Extensive numerical and experimental investigations were conducted on a multi-unit full-scale mockup track representing the special FST. A fast running model based on the Dynamic Stiffness Method was developed and examined, in an initial numerical exercise, against a detailed Finite Element model for a track with a finite length. In the experimental campaign, a test was performed with an impact hammer to identify the actual vibration response of the mockup track. Results from the experimental investigations were then used for model updating of the fast running model. The model updating process was carried out according to an automated hybrid optimization approach that combines genetic algorithms with a local search method. Finally, the updated model was extended to an infinite model to investigate the influence of varying grooves thickness on the dynamic behavior of the special track with infinite length for both bending and torsion scenarios. The investigations suggested that reducing the thickness below 50% of the full thickness of the slab significantly affects the dynamic behavior of the special FST.

    Abstract [en]

    Unlike most of civil engineering structures whose static and dynamic responses are estimated accurately through several codes and guidance, stadiums reserve a distinctive place especially when it comes to their dynamic behavior. This difference takes its source from several factors such as influence of crowd size, motion and slenderness of the structure. The most noticeable form of this difference shows itself as excessive vibration levels which is actually a threat to the serviceability of these structures. Eventually, it becomes essential to carefully evaluate several steps of this particular problem starting from correct representation of crowd activity through accurate loadings and human-structure interaction models to arranging acceptable vibration serviceability limits. This publication intends to point out the newly developed techniques and discovered issues on several stages of the problem during the last decade.

    Syftet med studien är att studera vilka möjligheter arbetsledningen på svenska byggföretag har, att på ett effektivare sätt styra värdeflödet av resurser med visuell styrning. Målet med studien är att identifiera förbättringsförslag och fördelar som finns och som kan skapas med visuell styrning för arbetsledningen vid anläggningsarbeten.Studien bygger på mätningar som har genomförts på ett anläggningsarbete av en cirkulationsplats i Ullared under 7 dagar där Skanska AB var entreprenör.Under mätningarna har författarna tagit fram fördelar och förbättringsförslag som finns eller kan skapas med visuell styrning. Slutsats och diskussion ska ge en indikation till svenska byggföretag om vad de kan göra för att tillgodogöra sig framstegen från tillverkningsindustrin.

    Abstract [en]

    Skew slabs enable to achieve a variety of solutions in, for instance, roadway alignments which contribute to a minor environmental impact for new road construction projects. But the force flow in skew slabs is much more complicated than in straight slab. Thus, the problem is more critical when constructing skew slabs. The complex behaviour of skew bridge slabs makes the utilisation of finite element method (FEM) the most critical and essential analytical tool to model reinforced concrete skew slab and calculate the non-linear behaviour of its structural members with considerable accuracy. This paper uses the general purpose of 3D finite element and ABAQUS software to design straight and skew slabs. Six separate bridge slab models/sketches of different angles were produced. Same material and material properties, loading, boundary conditions and meshing were used to determine the response and behaviour of each bridge slab. The slab is made of concrete class C35/45.

    Shipping today faces stricter environmental requirements for pollution from vessels. Shipping companies have started to look for alternative fuel to achieve better environmental outcome. The Baltic Sea today is a major trading area for shipping . On 1 of January 2015 a new set of brand new and stricter regulation is getting implemented and these regulations are called SECA. Vessel running on LNG as an alternative fuel is today discussed extensively within the Swedish Maritime forum where emissions of NOx, sulfur and particles are less recipients than in heavy fuel oil (HFO). One of todays problems with a LNG distribution in Sweden are that the infrastructure is incomplete and outdated. This report has been built upon qualitative interviews with important actors within the Swedish maritime forum and also what impedes the development of the LNG’s infrastructure. The outcome of the interviews showed that the development has been slowed down because none within the Swedish martime forum have dared to take the first step. The ports does not want to develop terminals when there is no market demand and the shipping companies does not want to build vessel that runs on LNG when there is no market for distribution. Swedish governments involvement has been very weak, almost non-existing. There are also gaps in the Swedish regulations and restrictions of LNG cargo handling. This is aslo one of the factors that the development of LNG has been impeded.

Arbetet görs för Rejlers Sverige AB och syftar till att få fram ett verktyg för beräkning av LCC enligt de krav som ställs av Trafikverket, diskussion om huruvida tillämpning av metoden är användbar.

    Rapporten går ut på att se om laserskanning är en bra metod att använda sig av vid ombyggnation, tillbyggnad och renovering. För att få fram ett svar på detta har två takbalkar i Södra Climate Arena skannats av. Vid genomförandet användes en laserskanner från Leica av varianten P30. Försöket innehåller fyra stycken uppställningar som riktas mot sex stycken måltavlor. Informationen som fåtts ut från skanningen i form av en sektion i AutoCAD har jämförts med befintliga ritningar för att se om informationen från skanningen stämmer överens med ritningarna. I modellen som fåtts ut från försöket har också mätning och undersökning skett för att se hur bra det går att mäta i modellen och om det är något som fungerar lätt att använda sig av i praktiken. Arbetet går även ut på att få en god inblick i hur laserskannern Leica P30 fungerar.

    5 till 7 miljoner ton asfalt har tillverkats och lagts ut under de senaste åren i Sverige och anläggningsbranschens årliga omsättning ligger på ca 4 mljarder kronor per år. Samtidigt har asfaltmarknadsbranschens upphandlingsmetoder varit ett diskutabelt ämne runt om i världen.

    Examensarbetet består av en geografisk prisjämförelse av asfalt och studera de ingående faktorer som påverkar priset. Intervjuer har gjorts med beläggningsentreprenörer från olika företag i Mellan- till Sydsverige. Resultatet påverkas av att reliabiliteten är låg eftersom relativt få aktörer har svarat på frågeformuläret, men visar på kraftiga prisskillnader mellan olika regioner. Totalkostnaden för beläggning, emulsion, bergmaterial, transport, maskin och hantverk skilde nästan 50 % mellan den med lägst och den med högst pris. Det har inte framkommit några indikationer på kartellbildning i denna undersökning.
