Abstract [sv]

Begreppet matchning står för den process då ett familjehem väljs ut för att passa ett individuellt barn vid placering i samhällsvård. Matchning har betydelse för samhällsvårdens kvalitet, då familjehemsföräldrarna behöver ha de resurser som krävs för att möta barnets behov. En misslyckad matchning kan medföra negativa konsekvenser för barnet, bland annat i form av så kallade ‚Äùsammanbrott‚Äù, med byte av omvårdnadspersoner. Det saknas empiriska studier om matchning av familjehem i en svensk kontext, studier som kan ge kunskap om vilka problem som uppstår och hur de kan hanteras. Ett dilemma är t.ex. att kommunerna har svårt att rekrytera familjehem.Syftet med studien är att undersöka socialtjänstens praktik vid den matchning som görs mellan barn och familjehemsföräldrar för att säkerställa att placerade barn får god vård. Studien förväntas bidra med kunskap om relevanta faktorer som socialtjänsten behöver beakta. Följande frågeställningar är i fokus: I) Hur kommer föreställningar om en lämplig matchning för att möta barns behov till uttryck i det sociala arbetets praktik? II) Vilken kunskap och vilka teoretiska antaganden bygger de professionella sina bedömningar på vid matchning mellan barn och familjehemsföräldrar? III) Hur och när involveras barnen under matchningsprocessen enligt de professionella? IV) Vilka faktorer framstår som mest betydelsefulla att ta hänsyn till vid matchning för placeringars stabilitet?Studien har i huvudsak en kvalitativ ansats och genomförs dels med aktstudier och dels med intervjuer med professionella. Såväl handläggare inom socialtjänsten som personal inom privata konsultföretag intervjuas om sitt arbete med matchning. Undersökningen genomförs i flera olika kommuner med geografisk spridning. Granskning av akter kan synliggöra de professionellas föreställningar och den kunskap de bygger sina bedömningar på. I intervjuer får de professionella reflektera över vilka faktorer de upplever som viktigast vid matchning och vad som försvårar.

Abstract [en]

The concept of matching refers to the process when a foster home is selected to fit an individual child in placement. Matching is important for the quality of care, as the foster carers need necessary resources to meet the child’s needs. Failure in matching can have negative consequences for the child, for example in the form of so called breakdowns, which lead to change of foster homes. There is a lack of empirical studies of how the social services manage matching in a Swedish context, studies that can provide knowledge about which problems arise and how they can be managed. One dilemma is, for example, that the municipalities´ social services have difficulties in recruiting foster family homes.The aim of the study is to explore the social services´ practice when matching children and foster carers to ensure that the children will receive good care. The following research questions are in focus: I) How is the conception of a suitable matching to meet the child’s needs expressed in the social workers´ considerations? II) On what knowledge and theoretical assumptions do the social workers base matching? III) How and when are the children involved during the matching process? IV) What factors appear to be most important to consider during the matching process to promote the stability of placements?The study has primarily a qualitative approach and is carried out partly with case-file studies and partly with interviews with professionals who work with matching. Social workers at the municipal social services as well as staff in private consulting firms will be interviewed about their work with matching. The study will be conducted in different municipalities with geographical distribution. Examination of case files can make visible the perceptions of the professionals and the knowledge on which they base their assessments. In interviews, professionals will reflect on what factors they perceive as most important in matching and what complicates the process.
