Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis was to analyse and further investigate how and if so, to whatextent South Korean born global startups collect useful big data and consequently useinformation systems such as business intelligence and business analytics in order toformulate internationalisation strategies and thus reaching global competitiveness. Aqualitative study was conducted by interviewing four South Korean technologicalstartups in different industries through a deductive approach. By reading and drawinginspiration from existing literature and the DeLone and McLean IS Success Model, a selfmade model to connect how South Korean born global startups utilise informationsystems in order to formulate internationalisation strategies and reach globalcompetitiveness was initially introduced. In the findings chapter, an introduction andfurther explanation of the interviewed startups are presented. The findings contributed tothe analysis chapter where the bearing concepts from the introduced model are discussedin order to find connections between them. Finally, no direct connection between theutilisation of information systems and internationalisation strategy could be found andthus the thesis is concluded with a rejection of the initially introduced model and thepresentation of a new, revised model. Recommendations for South Korean startups witha goal of global competitiveness through information systems as well as suggestions forfurther research are presented at the very end of this thesis.
