Abstract [en]
One of the ways to model terrain in computer graphics today is through erosion simulation. X. Mei et al demonstrated the idea by applying erosion simulation to a ‘mountain’ shaped like the letters PG, making them have the appearance of a mountain range. This approach has many positives, but the big drawback is that it's expensive in terms of time and computing power, as larger terrains might take several minutes, or even hours, to run a simulation on. This work aims to synthesize terrain erosion using Latent Diffusion Models (LDMs), to explore possibilities to achieve visually pleasing results with less computing time and power.
While the results did not give any clear advantage over traditional methods, we believe that the work could provide a base for further research into the field.
