Abstract [en]

In the elevator Industry there are many different control systems that elevators use, in this study a Breakpoint system that can reduce the electricity consumption of an elevator is introduced and simulated in comparison to the system that draws power linearly with increase in load. A java software simulation program was built to better give exact results that can correspond to a really situation in a more precise manner. A Microsoft excel software was used to better analyze and interpret the data into graphs and therefore giving the results in a presentable form. The results from this study showed that the elevator with a breakpoint system do uses long time to arrive at a given floor in many cases. The second result showed that when a breakpoint system is used, an elevator power usage is decreased significantly and therefore minimizing the impact of the first result in the overall cost of energy as the differences in power reduction and time increase is wide. In the simulation that was done, the results proved that the breakpoint control system is way better than the linear-driven system. In terms of the impact of these systems on the running cost of the elevator, a breakpoint system was 4 krona cheaper than the linear-driven system and therefore it is better.
