Växjö universitet, Polisutbildningen, VPU. Polismyndigheten Stockholms län, Sweden.
2008 (svensk)Rapport (Annet vitenskapelig)
Abstract [en]

Differences in production among police officers have a great impactas to qualitative factors of police work, such as measures madeat crime scenes, the officers demeanor toward citizens and on if theofficers solve different forms of problems. There are also differencesthat have to do with the intensity of the officers productivity, for instance in number of issued reports. If such differences reallymatters are dependent on the tactics that are used, i.e. to the extentthe actions of the officers have an impact. The police organization often works with methods that many researchersconsider ineffective. The effect of the active officerswork might increase considerably if the police use methods provento be effective and avoid methods that has shown to be ineffective. The choice of method are also of significance for the consequenceof increasing productivity among inactive officers. To increaseproductivity if the applied methods do not have any impact is rathermeaningless. In the report methods that have proven to be effectiverespectively to be ineffective, are accounted for with a great numberof references to results of other researchers. An important task for the police will be to create a strategy as to theselection of methods and how they should be combined to achievebest possible results. To succeed, it is vital that the police makeprofessional evaluations. Presently there are great shortcomings inthis area. There is thus a great potential for improvement in the resultof policing.
