The relationship between social support and life satisfaction : - a quantitative study among unemployed people (English)
Abstract [sv]

Kvantitativa data samlades in genom en digital enkät, vilken innehöll mätinstrumenten Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) och Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS). Totalt samlades svar in från 87 personer.

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there is a relationship between perceived social support and life satisfaction among unemployed people. The hypothesis that was tested was that a higher degree of perceived social support predicts a higher degree of life satisfaction. Quantitative data was collected through a digital questionnaire, which contained the measurement instruments Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS). In total, responses were collected from 87 participants. A regression analysis was performed, and the control variables of age, gender, and time without work were also included in the analysis. The results showed that social support has a significant relationship with life satisfaction and provides support for the hypothesis. None of the variables of age, gender, and time without work showed a significant relationship with life satisfaction. The results were discussed in relation to previous research and suggestions are given for future studies, which can contribute to an increased understanding of the importance of social support in individuals who are unemployed.
