Energy-efficient renovation of townhouses – A case study of Fröseke community (English)
Abstract [en]

This thesis investigates how townhouses from the 1960s in Fröseke can be

renovated to improve energy performance while considering economic conditions.

Energy simulations were performed in VIP-Energy to analyse different renovation

measures, including replacement of windows, doors, additional insulation and

installation of a ventilation system with heat recovery.

The results show that the buildings in their current condition have high energy

consumption and significant heat losses. Among the analysed measures,

installation of a ventilation system with heat recovery provided the greatest

improvement in energy performance, although its cost could not be reliably

determined without a separate, more detailed design process. Replacement of

windows and doors provided the second largest improvement and was the most

costly of the measures for which cost estimates were made. Additional insulation

of the roof and exterior walls also reduced energy use, at a lower cost.

The study also highlights the importance of balancing energy-efficient renovation

with accessibility improvements and consideration for the buildings’ remaining

architectural character. The results indicate that energy-efficient renovations can

contribute to lower energy use and more attractive housing in the long term.
