Bakgrund: Företag som väljer att arbeta med Lean har ofta som mål att få en mer lönsam och effektivare produktion, med mindre medel. För att lyckas med detta är medarbetarna i dessa företag av största vikt, varför studier om arbetsmiljö i Lean-företag gjorts. Utifrån detta har en relation mellan arbetsmiljö och Lean påvisats.

Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att beskriva samt jämföra hur arbetsmiljön upplevs i tre olika svenska tillverkande företag som arbetar med Lean. Vidare är avsikten för studien också att identifiera faktorer i relationen mellan arbetsmiljö och Lean samt dess följder på företagens styrning. Syftet med detta är att bredda den existerande forskningen kring relationen mellan arbetsmiljö och Lean-arbete i drift, samt bistå de tre fallföretagen med en kartläggning av den upplevda arbetsmiljön.

Metod: Studien har en komparativ flerfallsdesign, där intervjuer och enkäter genomförts på tre svenska tillverkande företag. Vidare har även respektive företags interna styrdokument och egna observationer legat till grund för datainsamling och analys.

Slutsats: Studien finner att den fysiska arbetsmiljön enbart lindrigt påverkar eller påverkas av ett företagens Lean-arbete. Däremot är den psykosociala arbetsmiljön en starkare faktor för funktionaliteten av Lean-arbetet, och Lean får även störst effekt på den psykosociala arbetsmiljön. Vidare fastslås att bemyndigande är en av de viktigaste faktorer för både Lean och arbetsmiljö, vilket innebär att styrningen måste utformas med hänsyn till detta.

Background: Companies that choose to work with Lean usually have a vision about becoming more profitable and effective, with less means. To succeed with this, it has been proven that the employees in these companies are of great importance, why studies about their work environment have been conducted. These studies have proven a relationship between work environment and Lean.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe and compare the perceived work environment in three swedish manufacturing companies working with Lean. Furthermore, the intention is to identify factors in the relationship between work-environment and Lean together with its impact on the companies management accounting. The purpose with this is to widen the existing research about the relationship between work environment and established Lean, as well as assist the three companies with an overview of the perceived work environment.

Method: The study was conducted through a comparative multidose study, in which semi-structured interviews serves as the primary source of data which was supported by surveys, observations and internal documents. Through this triangulation each case is first analyzed separately followed by a comparative analyze of the three cases.

Conclusion: The study reaches the conclusion that the physical work environment only mildly affects or affect the companies Lean-work. The psychosocial work environment however, is a stronger factor for the functionality of Lean and Lean is a strong factor for the functionality of the psychosocial work environment. Empowerment is one of the most important factor for both Lean and the work environment, meaning that the entire management accounting system needs to be modeled with regard to empowerment.
