This study intends to examine what kinds of persons are studying journalism in Sweden today. We did a survey and we used a questionnaire to gather our empirical material. We went to the universities to hand out the questionnaire personally. We did this because it has been proven to be the most efficient way to get a high frequency of response. We had a hard time finding valid theories that could explain our results, although we found two that we could apply on small parts of our result. These theories are the theory of evaluation and the cultural theory.

Our results are showing that the Swedish journalism students are not a homogeneous group. They come from many different backgrounds and have many different definitions of their future profession and what subjects they want to work with. Our results have been showed to be very similar to earlier research on the subject, especially when it comes to for example the medium they prefer to work in. A disproportionately large group have a desire to work in the print media.

We would like to see more research done on this subject since there is very few made in Sweden. It would also be interesting to see if there are any differences in “our” students´ views when they graduate.
