När Ellen och Tanja träffas är deras vänskap inte självklar. Snarare är deras föreställningar om hur den andra personen borde vara en grund för problem och konflikt. Båda söker ofta efter något annat än varandra men faller ändå tillbaka till en relation som kanske inte är bra för någon av dem. I vuxen ålder, när de i stort sett har tappat kontakten, får vi träffa dem båda igen. Dramatiska händelser gör att de funderar över den gamla vänskapen och vad som gick fel. Vad innebär egentligen vänskap och lojalitet? Och ska man vara vänner till vilket pris som helst?
