Abstract [en]
Aim: The research discusses how the dramaturgic images are today compared to 50 years ago in the newspaper Dagens Nyheters sports images from the Olympic Games 2010 and 1960. The study's overall aim is to argue for the importance of knowledge of dramaturgic images in media.
Method/Material: The thesis applies semiotic images analysis of total six selected images from the Olympic Games 2010 and 1960. I have studied the dramaturgic structure in all images, if the dramatic representation of athletes differs between the two investigated Olympic years, and which emotions that are conveyed in the pictures. The material in question is selected from a Swedish newspaper called Dagens Nyheter. The theories in this study has been divided into different themes which is: photos of the sports pages, the function of images, image function and emotional creation of images, dramatic structure in sports images representation and gender and representation, nationalism and identification.
Main results: There has been a change in dramaturgy in the Olympics pictures presented by the newspaper Dagens Nyheter, during the research period. The media fills their images with a content of drama as a result of today's hardened competition between media companies. The today´s sports images are filled with more drama and with more, stronger feelings compared to the sports images from 1960, which in turn affect us and our identity.
