A well-educated and motivated journalist : A qualitative study of what is required of new journalists in a changed media landscape and how the education programs adapt to it (English)
Abstract [en]
The journalistic media landscape has changed and with it the journalistic professional role. This transformation must be reflected in journalism education so that the students are well prepared for the professional life as a journalist. We interviewed journalists in working life on how they see the change and what is now needed to survive in the competitive industry. We also asked about how they see journalism education and what they lack from it.
Subsequently, we interviewed three journalism education programs on how they work with and think about the issues the journalists in our previous interviews raised as important.
Our conclusion is that the industry's requirements and what the education programs offers to its students are consistent in most respects, but there are shortcomings when it comes to general knowledge, motivation, entertainment and diversity.
