Abstract [en]
This thesis is the closure of the Master program in Mechanical Engineering at Linnaeus University in Växjö. The work has been done at Volvo Construction Equipment in Braås, where they develop and manufacture Articulated Haulers. A comparative analysis was performed on the front frame of an Articulated Haulers. Two frames were investigated, the existing A35/40 frame and a prototype frame of a new Hauler. The purpose of the thesis is to obtain a comparative vibration analysis of the frames, in order to know how the vibrations are transmitted from the engine mounts to the cabin piles through the frames to find out weaknesses and critical points of the frame. The analysis was done on finite element models in ANSYS by applying the same load cases and boundary conditions to both frames. The frequency responses were investigated in all relevant points. Further post-processing analysis was performed in MATLAB, such that results are presented in frequency bands. The prototype frame has better performance in general, compared to existing A35/40 except for a few frequency regions. However, the recommendation is to reinforce the front section of the new front frame. Another suggestion is to optimize the design of each cabin pile.
