Jacob Edvard Gille föddes 10 augusti 1814 i Stockholm och dog där 8 november 1880. Parallellt med sitt arbete som notarie vid bokauktionskammaren i Stockholm var han kontinuerligt verksam som musiker, bland annat vid Mindre teatern och Kungl. Hovkapellet samt som kyrkomusiker i katolska kyrkan. Gille skrev, förmodligen självlärd som tonsättare, musik i många genrer, från sånger till musikdramatik och symfonier.

Jacob Edvard Gille was born 10 August 1814, in Stockholm and died there 8 November 1880. He had multiple careers: as a clerk at an auction house for books in Stockholm as well as a musician with ensembles such as the Royal Court Orchestra, at Mindre teatern and with the Catholic Church. Presumably self-taught, Gille composed music of many genres − from songs to musical dramas and symphonies.
